I’m gonna read hnk from the start tomorrow but what i saw in the last chapter made me so sad. When I opened the first chapter of the manga, seeing the Phos from the start and remembering what happens with them throught out the story broke my heart.
I really hope they get the happiness they wish in the last chapter and that they can finally rest from what they went

While I'm sure Phos is still mostly immortal, I do think their gold alloy had always given them a sense of mortality? Like how the alloy destroyed them from the inside out the more it stretched and compressed. Since Rutile's explanation of that after Phos lost their head I felt like Phos essentially did have a limit, if not a timer, like they could only be broken so many times, especially with Rutile saying they lacked confidence every time they had fixed Phos. Which tbh makes every injurious action inflicted against Phos even worse? The gems I can let tolerate because they operate under the assumption that they can be put back together and Phos always turns out fine (except maybe Rutile because they knew Phos' condition), but boy does it make me even angrier every time that lunarian gaurd dog smashed Phos to bits. Because operating under this assumption it becomes genuinely injurious, and the lunarians had to know if they were intentionally manipulating Phos into a pseudo-human that there would probably be consequences against their immortality.
Part of me fears that Ichikawa will end the series with a panel of human Phos just...frozen and unmoving with maybe their hands in almost a prayer, but ultimately Aechmea's plan bit him in the ass because he was too successful at making Phos human.
Tumblr media
this reminds me of a recent conversation i had with @stage4-dumb-bitch-disease where they pointed out that the alloy is what made everything possible because it finally solved phos' main problem, that is that they are so damn brittle
and it's interesting to notice that:
it solved the problem by embracing the problem: the alloy makes use of phos' brittleness to piece them back together as they go and give their body the plasticity that lustrous lack
it's connected to antarc. one of the people that shook phos the most and to which they were most connected. probably the only one that ever saw phos as an equal (ghost knew phos when they were already strong, and even before that, they never interacted much. antarc probably didn't know phos at all because they were always hybernating)
idk, food for thought

it's midnight *cracks open aechmea's character on a pan and sizzles him over light fire*
im just thinking. at one point he says cairngorm's absence was instrumental to phos' emotional downfall. wouldn't it have been easier, more devastating even, to orchestrate events so that cairngorm dies? it wouldn't be the first time he'd done something like that to phos, and it wouldn't be any more cruel than. you know. essentially coating the surface of the moon with corpses of gems, their family.
aechmea is a character who omits truth, but never lied directly. he could restore below 4 gems - but not as gems, as lunarians. he told phos sensei couldn't pray because of a defect, he just didn't say if it could be fixed. this all makes me wonder about the thing he said to cairn - does he really care about her, as much as a being who has lost any kind of pleasure from life could? an effective deity among his kind? what was the point of keeping cairn's arm? of telling her about his plans?
why did he even restore the gems into lunarians? why did he even accept them? on the moon he could have easily destroyed them all after phos went into a 10k year coma. he could have left the moon dust to rot away, figuratively speaking. what was the point in putting so much effort in salvaging a species responsible for millions of years of suspended suffering, of not being able to die, to move on.
what is it with that sadboy guilty expression of his when phos finally prays them away. he's only ever had a resting bitch face until chapter 94 where he smiles at phos holding sensei's eye, and that guilty frown in 99. did he succeed? is the judge of hell himself at peace? does he feel remorse for what he's subjected phos to?

I love your hnk ocs there so amazing and have such cool personalities
What would the gems do on the moon in ch 96
I don't mean everything single one of your ocs
Ah thank you!!
(Spoilers below for those that haven't caught up)
I think if Tugtupite were on the Moon they'd call Aechmea a bitch and demand to be put back on Earth tbh (link to a post I made of Tugtupite's reaction to being asked to become a Lunarian/on the Moon about a year ago)
I'm definitely a "refusing to accept all the Gems go to the Moon and become Lunarians" type here. Many reasons for that on both a moral standpoint (colonialism erasing a culture and forcing the people of that culture they put under constant threat to assimilate with them) and a "that's bullshit storytelling and that makes me frustrated so I'll ignore it".
So instead I've decided that some of the Gems stay on Earth and begin to progress now that they have a chance to without the constant threat of war damaging both their psychological and physical state. Lunarians kept their promise and returned some of the Gems back from dust if they wanted to and if their hardness had been above 5.
And with that, the Gems on Earth began to make discoveries and assist new Gems that would never have to know war and could learn how to deal with older Gems and PTSD, and to thrive on their own. Maxixe for instance, is able to get more assistance with their trauma, perhaps also having Aquamarine back but Aqua might not have any memories (as the Lunarians said they wouldn't have). Tugtupite is now able to help a lot in the biological sciences. Vanadinite struggles a bit with finding their place still. Labradorite and Graphite continue to work together on observations, helping with figuring out how the world works beyond Tugtupite's biological standpoint. The Gems progress past where humans had been in their own way, making advancements that help lower hardness Gems not break as easily in order for them to not be so worried with things.
Phos cannot be reached during this time unfortunately, but they would be greeted once they emerge to something that treats them with more kindness than inducing trauma for selfish reasons.
Of course I'd imagine there's still some conflict and issues that need to be resolved or can't be resolved but I think it'd be better than assimilation and the Lunarians (especially Aechmea) getting their way with 0 consequence and the ending of the story being "humans bad" :)))))))
My Gems on the radioactive island have no idea that happened though. Completely oblivious to that.

Your fics are so nice. Do you mind if I ask why you like euclapis so much? Or why you wrote Euclase grieving them?
Thanks anon that’s very kind!
Now, I can’t say I’m the one who thought about making it gay. That’s all on @houseki-no-suffering’s fic  what are the odds (if you haven't read it, I can't possibly recommend it enough.)
They wrote Lapis as an asshole and Euclase as a softie who has to deal with their bs. It's delightful, and my brain went what if on top of all the layers Lapis had a weird crush on Euclase and bam I'm writing a fic at 2 am.
Now about these layers:
When I first read chapter 60, this scene,
Tumblr media
Made me think that 1- Euclase has a clear sense of the kind of gem Lapis Lazuli once was 2- Lapis seemed to live in their head rent free, for some reason.
It feels like Euclase spends a lot of time reminiscing about Lapis (And Ghost Quartz, bc the parallels are wild.) It’s easy to imagine someone like Lapis slamming against Euclase’s Confucian sensibilities bc they share many similarities: both value knowledge. Both are painfully aware of the limits of their immortality. Both have great insight on others’ feelings and intentions, which gives them the ability to manipulate and plot to get the outcome they wish for.
Interestingly, those similitudes take them to vastly different spaces. Sensei's unique position and Aechmea's involvement puts a high price on acquiring meaningful knowledge in their world. As a result, gem's society rewards harmony rather than discovery. Euclase choose the former, Lapis walked towards the latter, and Lapis failed while Euclase is currently failing.
(you can keep going for a while. Euclase wants to preserve the past, Lapis had no qualms in throwing it away. Lapis must’ve been very peeved by Euclase’s preference for biding their time and observe, and Euclase disliked how Lapis used others for their own gains bc they value honesty and selflessness. Lapis hid their intent for centuries bc they wanted the answers for themselves and no one else. Euclase is open about how much they care.)
I would say their coping mechanism probably clashed. Euclase’s way of getting by resembles Yellow’s (And that gets me scared anon, you have no idea.) while Lapis’ reminds me of Rutile’s. Lapis probably thought Euclase gave up on the truth. Euclase believed Lapis gave little value to their way of living, which rubbed them both the wrong way.
Now, for the reasons why I wrote Euclase grieving them. I wanted to capture the melancholy and sadness that pours out of every one of Euclase’s panel. I wanted to write about things they wanted to protect. I’m also fascinated by the lack of mourning rituals in hnk, and how it affects their perpetual grief. I wrote them grieving Lapis specifically bc it puts them in an interesting position in relation to the narrative, which gave weight to the ending I imagined.
Also, I’m euclapis’ bitch at this point.

Seeing Phos' transformation, it is possible that crapmea we love to loathe was once a decent man that fell to the depth of despair and chose to be what he is now? Unpopular opinion but Aechmea is interesting as a character (and villain), and I want his backstory.
Oh i genuinely believe Aechmea isn’t some kind of evil man who craves bad things, honestly (tho im the first to call him a bitch when i need to. but hes def more nuanced than that)
He has good reasons to want sensei to pray, but it’s just the methods/consequences that would follow that are absolutely awful. But, if he’s sincere in the early chapters where he talked with Phos, it seems he did try to do things right and used the whole gem abduction strategy as a last resort. If anything I think most of the fandom is fed up with him because he has huge manipulative tendancies, lies by omission and barely communicates with anyone, so even if his intentions are good it just doesn’t make him look sympathic

YOU HALTED THE DUSTED GEM RESTORATION THE SECOND PHOS LEFT?! I’M SO MAD! aechmea is such a fake ass bitch! phos is going against their own people, and asks for a little help in return. in this case getting their friends back even though some can’t be restored and others will take millenia probably to wake up again. and the second phos isn’t there/useful anymore, they drop the project. aechmea is the fucking worst, and sensei too, and all of you in general taking phos for granted. they’ve been suffering for you and you don’t give a shit. honestly i’m getting pissed. all of you would be suffering if it weren’t for them and i wish you still would. gorm stuck with ghost remaining in their eyes, dia getting lectured by bortz and whatever ame’s problem was. you can all go fuck yourself. maybe padpa is also better off not waking up than to be stuck with you guys.

11, 28, 29 and 30?
11. worst 5 characters
Get ready y’all.
Tumblr media
Asuka (I never bothered to remember her full name). I genuinely hated her when I first watched NGE. I’m not a big fan of the tsundere type, especially when they’re violent. To me, she was whiny and self-entitled. She’d bitch and bitch about anything and everything but the second she got stuck in a fight with an Angel, she’d cry out for Shinji and it irritated me to no end.
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Midford from Black Butler. I hated her so much before I read the manga. She was incredibly annoying and was the damsel in distress way too much for my liking (after I read the manga, I understood why she behaved that way and I actually do tolerate her more).
Tumblr media
Inka from Fire Force. I have never hated a character so fast before I met her. We get introduced to her and it’s revealed that she has a hard-on for destruction, but here’s the thing. She’s one of Pillars (like Sho and Shinra), so she’s vital to the plot and needs to be kept away from the White Hoods. Problem is, she joined them with no hesitation because they would let her do whatever she wanted. Shinra tried so hard to help her and keep her safe from the White Hoods but she basically said “Fuck you” to Shinra’s face and left with the White Hoods. Every time she pops up, I want her dead.
Tumblr media
Cairngorm from Houseki no Kuni. They were honestly a nice character up until the Moon Arc where they had the last piece of Ghost Quartz removed and they became an absolute asshole, tossing Phos aside like trash over Aechmea. I’m still hoping that Cairngorm apologizes to Phos or at the very least they get shattered. I can’t stand this asshole.
Tumblr media
Amy Rose from Sonic X. I still standby with this being her absolute worst version. Even growing up I hated her (I even shipped her with Shadow because I didn’t want her anywhere near Sonic). She may be young, but she’s bratty, annoying, whiny and abusive. Her comic and Boom versions are a major upgrade if I have anything to say about it.
28. give me two anime to pick between
Tumblr media
You want a comedy/action series with cute guys? Try Nanbaka where you follow a bunch of inmates through a bunch of hijinks and the occasional heavy action sense. The tonal shift hits you hard.
Tumblr media
Not into the idea of following inmates but you still wanna see cute guys? Try Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE! It follows a group of high school students, but there’s a catch: They’re magical boys. It’s a comedy/parody series and it’s a fun ride.
29. give me two characters to pick between
Tumblr media
Emma
or
Tumblr media
Hinata Shoyou
(these two could be classified as siblings dfghjfd)
30. favorite anime you’d recommend
I have a lot of favorites but probably....
Tumblr media
Zatch Bell. It was one of the first I ever watched and it needs more recognition (and a remake).
