Ecuador, Galapagos!
So, I want to tell you about my incredible journey to South America, specifically to Ecuador.
Tumblr media
The country is small, but very convenient from a tourist perspective: the distances are relatively short, yet there are four completely different zones here.
Quito, the capital, is located in the Cordilleras (called the Andes in South America), at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level.
Tumblr media
Thus, the first zone is the mountains (you can also see the highest volcano in the Cordilleras from Quito — Cotopaxi, which is 6,000 meters high). The air temperature in Quito remains at 16-18 degrees Celsius year-round. From Quito, a large number of excursions to the mountains are offered — trekking, hiking, kayaking, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you take a plane from Quito to the city of Coca, after a 50-minute flight, you will find yourself in the second zone — the Amazon. The tropical forests through which a tributary of the Amazon River, the Napo River, flows, are a real paradise for flora and fauna researchers. The river is navigable, flows through several countries, and has several lodges for living in the tropical forests along its banks — ranging from the simplest to the luxury.
Tumblr media
Our stay was at the Napo Cultural Center — it is truly a luxury hotel, and from there it is very easy to set out on excursions into the jungle.
Tumblr media
We went into the jungle with naturalist guides working at the center. Without them, an ordinary city dweller wouldn't be able to take a step in the jungle — danger lurks everywhere. In addition to viewing beautiful landscapes and interacting with monkeys and parrots, we saw a family of otters, then caimans, and finally, an anaconda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A tip for tourists: The Amazon is a hot and humid zone, so you will need lightweight cotton clothing, boots or sneakers, a wide-brimmed hat, and a long-sleeve shirt of a light color. There are lots of insects in the jungle, and it’s better to spot them on light clothing.
The third zone is Guayaquil — the Pacific Ocean coast. It’s not as hot here as in the Amazon, but it's warm. The city seemed more modern to me, unlike Quito, which is built in a colonial style. This is what makes Ecuador interesting: in one visit, you will see completely different regions.
And finally, the fourth zone — the Galapagos Islands. Located in the Pacific Ocean 1,000 km from the coast, they also belong to Ecuador. A 2-3 hour flight from Quito or Guayaquil will get you there. The archipelago consists of 18 islands, 9 of which are large, but not all of them are inhabited. The archipelago is the most famous and most protected natural reserve on Earth.
Tumblr media
When you step off the plane, you feel like you’ve landed on another planet: an iguana greeted us on the runway, sea lions were resting on the shore, and turtles were running along the paths. Nowhere else in the world is there such a variety of fauna.
Tumblr media
Regarding nature, all the islands are completely different, and since living species evolved in isolation on these islands, they all have their endemic features, unique to each island.
Tumblr media
We saw so many different colors of iguanas on different islands: red, sandy, green, black. Unforgettable impressions: schools of dolphins, sea lions.
Tumblr media
Crabs run underfoot on the shore, pelicans dive from the air straight into the water. And when during snorkeling a shark swims by you (even if it’s a baby) — those sensations will stay with you for a long time.
Tumblr media
Advice: it is best to go on a cruise to the archipelago. Several companies offer cruises on catamarans and yachts that travel to the most picturesque places. The cruises vary in cost and duration — mainly 3, 5, 7, or 10 days. We were on the wonderful catamaran Alya from the company Galagent, with a very professional team on board.
Tumblr media
What to bring with you? The main thing is to understand that Ecuador is for active holidays, meaning you will need soft sneakers, trekking shoes, sporty cotton pants, a protective jacket, a shirt, a sun hat, a swimsuit, glasses, mosquito repellent, necessary medications, and a travel thermos for drinking water.
If you want to get an impression of all the natural zones of Ecuador, the visit can last 10-14 days.
In conclusion, I want to thank our partners — the travel companies and organizations of Ecuador.

They came from sunny Mallorca! Active, cheerful, and positive! Fearless, strong-willed, and patient, they withstood all the hardships of mountain impassability! 🌞
Too bad my lens broke at the time and I couldn’t get the best photos from the trip. And it’s a pity that we had to cancel the trip to Lake Alakol. 😯 So, this is a reason to come back again and visit other locations! 😉
It was autumn and I was worried about the weather. But the gods were supportive and the weather was just super! So, the trip was a success! 🔥

Best Time to Climb Kilimanjaro for Beginners: A Seasonal Guide
Conquering the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro is a dream for many, but for beginners, choosing the right time to climb is crucial. In this blog post, we'll explore the best seasons to climb Kilimanjaro for those new to the mountain, considering factors such as weather, crowds, and overall conditions.
Peak Season (December to February, June to August)
Pros:
Pleasant weather: Clear skies, minimal rainfall, and comfortable temperatures make it ideal for beginners.
Abundant wildlife: Spot a variety of animals, including the elusive mountain zebra.
Well-maintained trails: Enjoy well-defined paths and increased availability of services.
Cons:
Crowds: Be prepared for larger groups of climbers and potentially longer wait times.
Higher prices: Accommodation and other services may be more expensive during peak season.
Shoulder Season (March to May, September to November)
Pros:
Fewer crowds: Enjoy a more peaceful and intimate experience.
Lower prices: Save money on accommodation and other expenses.
Pleasant weather: Still enjoy comfortable conditions with fewer crowds.
Cons:
Potential for rain: Be prepared for occasional showers or mist.
Reduced availability of services: Some accommodations and amenities may be less accessible.
Off-Peak Season (January, February, March, April, May, October, November, December)
Pros:
Significantly lower prices: Enjoy significant savings on your trip.
Fewer crowds: Experience a truly solitary climb.
Cons:
Potentially harsher weather: Be prepared for colder temperatures and more rainfall.
Reduced availability of services: Limited accommodations and amenities may be available.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Season for Beginners
Weather: If you're a beginner, it's recommended to choose a season with pleasant weather to minimize challenges. The peak and shoulder seasons offer the most favorable conditions.
Crowds: If you prefer a less crowded experience, consider the shoulder or off-peak seasons.
Budget: The off-peak season is the most budget-friendly option, but you might encounter harsher weather conditions.
Physical fitness: If you're not in peak physical condition, the shoulder or off-peak seasons may allow for more gradual acclimatization.
Highlight: PoaPoa Tours' Beginner-Friendly Kilimanjaro Packages
At PoaPoa Tours, we offer tailored Kilimanjaro trekking packages for beginners, considering the best time of year to climb based on your preferences and experience level. Our packages include:

Scaling Heights: A Guide to Lobuche Peak Climbing in the Himalayas
Nestled amidst the towering peaks of the Khumbu region in Nepal, Lobuche Peak stands as a formidable challenge and a symbol of adventure for mountaineers around the world. With its icy slopes, exposed ridges, and breathtaking views of Everest, climbing Lobuche Peak offers an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Himalayas. Join us as we embark on an epic journey to conquer this majestic peak and witness the wonders of the world's highest mountains.
Tumblr media
Chapter 1: Preparation and Arrival Our journey begins in Kathmandu, where we gather our gear and make final preparations for the expedition ahead. After a thrilling flight to Lukla, we embark on the iconic trek to Everest Base Camp, acclimatizing to the altitude and immersing ourselves in the stunning landscapes of the Khumbu region. With each step, the anticipation builds for the challenge that lies ahead on Lobuche Peak.
Chapter 2: Trekking to Lobuche Base Camp As we trek deeper into the mountains, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and remote. We pass through picturesque villages, cross icy rivers, and traverse rocky moraines as we make our way towards Lobuche Base Camp. Nestled amidst the glaciers and towering peaks, the base camp serves as our home away from home as we prepare for the ascent.
Chapter 3: Climbing Lobuche Peak With the crack of dawn, we begin our ascent towards the summit of Lobuche Peak. The route takes us across steep snow slopes, rocky ridges, and exposed sections that require careful navigation and technical skill. As we climb higher, the air grows thin and the views become increasingly breathtaking, with panoramic vistas of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam unfolding before us.
Chapter 4: Reaching the Summit After hours of relentless effort, we finally reach the summit of Lobuche Peak, standing at an altitude of over 6,000 meters. The sense of achievement is overwhelming as we gaze out at the world below, surrounded by a sea of peaks stretching as far as the eye can see. We pause to savor the moment, knowing that we have conquered the challenge and achieved our goal.
Chapter 5: Reflections and Farewell As we descend from the summit and make our way back to base camp, we reflect on the challenges we've overcome and the memories we've created. Lobuche Peak has tested our limits and pushed us to new heights, but it has also rewarded us with moments of unparalleled beauty and a sense of accomplishment that will stay with us forever. As we bid farewell to this majestic peak and the mountains that have become our home, we carry with us a renewed sense of purpose and a deep appreciation for the power of the Himalayas to inspire and transform.
Conclusion: As we conclude our Lobuche Peak climbing expedition, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the opportunity to experience the wonders of the Himalayas up close. From the challenges of the climb to the beauty of the landscape, every moment has been a testament to the spirit of adventure and the indomitable human spirit. And as we look towards future expeditions, we do so with a sense of wonder and excitement for the adventures that lie ahead.
