A Novel Concept To Resurrect Abandoned Infrastructure and Repurpose it for Broadband Connectivity
As high-speed internet demand escalates, bridging the connectivity gap in rural and underserved areas becomes critical. A revolutionary approach utilizes RF emissions from obsolete copper infrastructure to enhance bandwidth, doubling capacity without sign
As the demand for high-speed internet continues to soar, innovative solutions are imperative to optimize existing infrastructure and bridge the digital divide. This article proposes a groundbreaking concept that capitalizes on the RF emissions from copper-based internet infrastructure to augment bandwidth capacity without extensive infrastructure upgrades. Dissertation Topic Presentation
Tumblr media
So... my presentation is tomorrow morning and I am anxious to get feedback mainly. I know I have some solid ideas, but once I started to research into them with more detail I found there is a lot of ground to cover. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact it could prove to be useful as the more research I have the better and easier my dissertation will be to write and follow. Personally going over this presentation again I feel like time leaning more into questioning the ethics of photography surrounding ideas of the mainstream media influencing misjudgment, misinformation, racism and/or many other unethical issue that occur socially in contempory media.
Feedback:
Most people from the presentation responded well/ preferred the last section of my topics ideas. With ideas surrounding the affects off media/publicity feedback was to maybe focus on a specific minorities/issue I.e vitiligo and analyse the use and effects. Present dissertation backwards - the ideas is my presentation of presented from start to finish could incorporate some of all my ideas as they could weave into the analyse. Ethics can be used to analyse the use of specific models in specific case studies. Find specific case studies/ occurrences. How it used? Who is affected? How it affects the sitter? Who is in control? Is it ethical? Can/ will these views change?
Use the Thomas Ruff idea (only a representation of the surface) to lead conversation. Link to ideas that the camera/ technology/ media outlet changes to representation of a subject. Then onto ethics.

Lecture 1: Photography Between- A consideration of photography across contexts
This lecture kept by David Campany was based on the relationship between Photography and its Context; it is a very important concept from which derive, together with Research, the aim of a piece of work. Without research and interest to a subject of research is almost quite impossible to create a solid project. As written in the Power Point presentation of the lecture “Photography is not enough, because when photography is only photography it isn’t even photography”.
Photography can have a variety of potential context: a photographer can decide to present his project in a gallery to then re-present the work in a photo book as subject of an essay, to then publish it in a magazine and so on.
The subject of a project needs to be carefully thought and supported by research and interest.

Dissertation topic progress
I’ve been thinking about potential topics for my dissertations a lot, because I was, at first, completely stumped as to what to pick. I realise it has to be a topic that I am passionate about and have a real interest in, and when considering this, the first thing that came to mind was the use of analogue photography in comparison to digital photography. I am really interested in the debate surrounding whether digital photography can be considered an art form in the same way that analogue photography can, as I personally believe it shouldn’t be. I feel that the materiality and the physicality of the analogue process is so different to that of digital processes that they cannot be categorised in the same way - I also believe the analogue photograph holds an entirely different visual experience and just generally more substance. More care and skill is generally needed when shooting using a film camera than when using a digital camera, which I believe is more about knowing how to use new technology and equipment than having the skill and the eye to take a good photograph.
This is just the very beginning of this debate, which I believe is vast enough for me to explore in great depth for my dissertation - Tacita Dean for instance has spoken quite extensively on the topic. I think this is something I would really enjoy writing about.

What is Dissertation?
Remember to take note of my time and location for my dissertation presentation.  10,000 word project on a freely formulated topic in/on photography (9000 word minimum).  -Chapter divisions and chapter structure -introduction and conclusion separate from chapters -2-5 chapters -Introduction 1000 words -Conclusion 1000 words  -8000 word body (meaning 2700 words per chapter) We take ownership of our dissertation, we formulate the topic and pay attention to proofreading the essays. The dissertation needs images. The proposal is more like a plan for my dissertation. I need to submit a proposal that I could write about next year. Re-read sample dissertations and understand why they have been given the appropriate grades, for example, Ether 86%, Void 74%, Tank Man 66%, Threads 63%.

Lecture 3: Karl Blossfeldt: New Objectivity or Metaphysical Purposiveness
- Blossfeldt intended images for science and sculpture but was classified as a modernist
Kant argues: we are constantly assuming there is structure in the world made for human purposiveness
- the concept of purposiveness can be violated by aesthetic pleasure
Admiration for the whole of nature vs. small subject
I didn’t really understand why there was such a big fuss over whether or not Blossfeldt work was considered modernist. I believe when looking at art one must first consider the original context in which is was created to begin to discern meaning. It does ask questions to a meaningful discussion on what we associate as value in purposiveness in art. Why is it created and what is it intended for? Does that meaning act as a function or part of a system of ideas?
I agree with the concept of purposiveness being violated by aesthetic pleasure. Much advertising has to do with this where it is created for shock value to sell the product in a means that isn’t related to the product at all. There is implied meaning, and sometimes there is no meaning at all, not even surrealist, just nothing. #capitalism

Week 1: Advanced Concepts in Photography;  Contemporary Cultural Theories Lecture
Wednesday 25th January 2017
From Analogue to Digital, From Use to Exchange
This session will open the module with a brief look at the sessions and the first lecture. The lecture will discuss Peter Osborne’s theory of photography’s analogue to digital shift, with its associated anxieties, as a shift from use value to exchange value in Marxian terms. We will ask whether/how this abstract theory can be seen reflected in contemporary photographic practice.

My Scott MBU-13/P aircrew mask with CRU-80P filter,By 1975, the USAF had adopted the mask breathing unit (MBU). This unit consisted of the MBU-13/P CB oxygen mask, the HGU-41/P protective hood and shoulder cowl, and the CRU-80/P filter pack (which used the thenstandard, M13-series filters). While the mask did provide protection for the aircrew, it was not perfect. It reduced the user’s field of vision, was poor fitting, had no Valsalva or drinking capability, and did not work with the advancedconcept ejection seat (ACES) II. By the early 1980s, the mask needed to be replaced. However, despite inadequacies, the mask is still authorized for use today http://www.wood.army.mil/chmdsd/images/pdfs/Jan-June%202005/Masks.pdf

Dissertation Topic Ideas:
Idea one:
Discuss the social impact photography has had on self image. Compare to artists that use the social media contacts as an aesthetic for their work. Richard something uses five photographs from each person he is photographing and re-photographs the subject in the best frame he finds for each subject. He finds this easy as something that is hard to do as a portrait photographer is capture photograph of a person how they would want it to look. So by re-photographing an image already taken he is reproducing the aesthetic. This shows the impact of the way photographs are being taken in this generation not only on the uses of social media but also for artists such as photographers and even editors for example magazines.
•The impact of representation in food photography. advertisement - Survey?
Idea two :
The idea of ethics;  social media and the way people document video suffering abuse murder. People have become numb to suffering. How photojournalist have influence or allowed the public to believe it is justified to photograph or record such devastating moment. Idea of how easy it is for the public to influence or be part of the news. The public has taken over the job of the photojournalist. News outlets depend on The snapshot aesthetic & this has become overly popular almost appraised as people want to be able to use technology to their advantage as it adapts. Justifications of Self-satisfaction with the act is an idea that people feel like they’re doing something even though they are not physically helping. and even then it is not doing anything apart from videoing capturing the event they could have avoiding recording in the first place. Kants idea of deontological ethic can be applied to this area to debate the ethics of allowing your self not to do the morally ‘right’ physical acts. Ethnicity being a trend, homelessness, War, murder, abuse, famine and natural diseases are all examples of subjects photographed that can be argued unethical but have become apart of (society) social norms.
Incoming Richard Mosee
Engaging a viewer
Personal intrest
Stereotype photography
Current issue: coronavirus/ media outlets
Further ideas:
•Effects of social media media in general on mental health links to photography in truth. How people see them selves- camera distortion - self image - selfies. •Photojournalist’s / paparazzi photograph people’s lives without authority no laws governing media use publications.
Photographer/ paparazzi aggravating celebrities to get a reaction to photograph. The fact that the photographer has control over the production of an image (post production) and the narrative behind the subject can be dangerous/ not always what the subject wants - unethical.
•Camera capabilities in this generation.
Emmanuel Kant - A photographer to help argue against Ruff’s interpretation of portrait photography is  Emmanuel Kant. His theory of deontological ethics can be applied to question whether or not under a series of rules, the morality of the action itself is right or wrong . However a consequential theory of ethics can be applied as consequentialism is a normative ethical theory. The consequences of an action are all that matters when taking an ethical decision to act.
Morality is primarily focused on the interests of other people and the idea of deontological constraints.

Summary:
In both cases for my dissertation topic ideas I would be focusing on the connection between photography and the being; the affects photography can have on a person and they’re opinion to a specific subject.
