it's not super related, but since you mentioned ageism in the dating scene in the transmisandry essay on substack it reminded me how a couple of my friends have started posting online how they're disgusted about gay men being predatory to younger guys........ and when asking about it turns out we're talking about 35yo people flirting with like, 23 year olds, *both being adults with jobs* and it's just so frustrating to misunderstand relationships of power like that and thinking that power just materializes with age (among other things). I'm not sure how to tackle this conversation with my friends because they're super defensive about it (both are transmascs who got groomed online by older men when they were pre-transition teens). I understand why it's a touchy subject for them, but I feel like they're just spreading around that old trope of gay men being more likely to abuse teens than straight men.

I just saw a couple on the Grey Furs (old furries) facebook made by a couple where one partner is 36 years old and the other is 61. When they met well over a decade ago, their age difference would have been something that a lot of the freaks on this webbed site would consider to have been predatory, and now they're *both* people that that crowd would treat like creepy old people.

it's always people who had a ton of privilege and isolation as kids and went away to college right after high school who foam at the mouth about age gaps being inherently predatory and younger adults being incapable of consent. meanwhile if you have ever worked in a retail space or a kitchen or any other number of regular degular working-class jobs you learn really fucking quick how little of an indicator age is of a person's maturity and whom they can be friends with. you'll routinely see 27-year-old-managers in charge of both 19 year-olds and 58 year-olds and yeah, sometimes the 58 yo and the 19 yo are friends! It turns out when you share in daily activities and labor with someone you can really respect them as a fellow person and have a ton in common with them and that what unites us is not our age demographic but our class position!

not to mention the rank hypocrisy of "be gay do crimes" types suddenly acting like the state is the ultimate moral arbiter when it comes to the ages of people in relationships and begging for the carceral justice system to intervene the moment they find someone else's relationship "creepy."

Ao3 is in Danger of being Banned

US senators from both sides of the aisle are aiming to limit information online. The KOSA act (Kids Online Safety Act) is aiming to censor content, this includes limiting or banning sites like wattpad, Tumblr, Tiktok and more. Now why is this bad? Protecting children online doesn't sound like a bad thing? And you'd be right, online activity can be dangerous for kids, exposing them to things that they didn't ask for can be terrible. But this act will not fix it. There is no meaningful way (currently) to regulate the internet to extreme extents, these policies often limit LGBTQ sites and support. The Heritage Foundation is in support of KOSA for just this reason.

Transphobia resulting from these policies is likely. Extremely likely. Not to mention KOSA will not only limit these for children but also adults, a violation of the First Amendment. The EFF has sent letters of concern for this act. And reasonably so, there is no meaningful way to discern 'good' speech from 'bad' as online filters have shown us again and again. We know bans don't work, we learnt from here! When tumblr tried to ban pro-anorexic content, it backfired in people changing their lettering to get through filters and thus making it easier to find by creating tags like 'thynspiration'. US states are currently banning books 'inapropriate for children' by limiting information about race, sexuality and gender discrimination, I'm afraid this act is seeking to do the same thing. Sites like ao3 that are archives for LGBTQ youth are likely to be threatened. Both Democrats and Republicans are in support of this Act, as well as big brands such as Dove who put Lizzo as the face of it. When the US bans sites, they are often unavailable everywhere else as well as a result.

Poor Leonardo DiCaprio. Megastar gazillionaire he may be, but what good is any of that if the world won’t, in today’s parlance, accept his authentic self? And in DiCaprio’s case, that self is an indefatigable shagger of models under the age of 25. DiCaprio’s habit of breaking up with his girlfriends before they reach their mid-twenties, even after he long ago saw his own mid-forties disappear in the rear-view mirror, has become a tabloid joke. Ha-ha, Leo would rather go down with the Titanic than touch a decrepit hag of 30!

But last week the “ha” changed to “ew” when it was reported that the 48-year-old’s latest girlfriend, Eden Polani, is a model (of course) and all of 19 years old. “She wasn’t even born when Titanic was released!” gasped the internet. People, she wasn’t even born when Catch Me If You Can was released. The reaction was so resoundingly negative that DiCaprio’s people released a statement that the two were not — to use that great American euphemism — dating, although they declined to comment if they’d ever “dated”.

If you want an illustration of how dramatically sexual politics has changed in recent years, then just look at the travails of DiCaprio. Lauren Bacall was 19 when she met 44-year-old Humphrey Bogart on the set of To Have and Have Not, and the only person who was bothered by that was the film’s 48-year-old director, Howard Hawks — because he’d had his eye on Bacall, too.

This has all changed now, as the #MeToo movement brought a greater understanding of power abuse, coercion, grooming and exploitation. Many women, me included, have re-evaluated their past and marvelled at what they once accepted as normal or just inevitable. As a result, a successful man in his late forties who would have once been grinningly saluted as a playa for dating a teenage model now just looks sleazy and weird.

This has been a genuine sea change, and one only needs to look at, for example, the still jaw-droppingly low conviction rates for rape to understand why so many women feel empowered by it, now able to rely on collective public attitudes where the legal system has for so long failed them.

But with this kind of social revolution there is always a risk of overcorrection, and we are starting to see the effects of that. In The Sunday Times last weekend the psychotherapist Julie Lynn-Evans talked about the number of schoolboys she was seeing who were traumatised and even suicidal after being accused of predatory behaviour because they had put “a hand on a bosom” while “slightly drunk”. Such accusations largely happen online, for instance on the Whisper app and the site Everyone’s Invited, where they can be posted anonymously. Sandra Paul, a defence lawyer, said she had worked with dozens of families of boys who had been accused: “Even if the allegations are not proven, the boy usually has to move school or college to try to start again. He will have been ostracised by his peers and is guilty by association.”

No doubt some of those boys have done bad things and deserve the consequences. But many have simply been caught in a web of childish awkwardness on their side and nervy confusion on the girl’s. They are the first post-#MeToo generation, having to navigate new mores that few adults understand either. When does making a move become an unwanted advance? Is asking for consent thoughtful or presumptuous? Add alcohol, inexperience and teenage hormones to the mix and you have a blazing fire of misunderstandings. Some will argue these boys are justified collateral damage, that a few innocents being embarrassed is small beer compared with how often true guilt has gone unpunished. And it is true that damning by allegation will be the only way some girls and women get justice, no question. But it’s still unfair.

This kind of public shaming has shifted power balances. Also last weekend the actor Armie Hammer gave an interview to the online newsletter Airmail. Now, Hammer is not a figure who attracts sympathy in the way, say, a suicidal schoolboy does, given he comes from a wildly wealthy family and was, until recently, a successful actor. But two years ago he became a global joke when several women claimed he got off on sharing cannibalism fantasies. Rape allegations followed, and his career vanished.

Yet the rape allegations were dubious at best, at least one of his accusers had never even met him and the kinky fantasies were, according to the evidence presented in the Airmail piece, shared consensually. In the interview Hammer acknowledges “the power dynamics were off” in his relationships with women, because he was a rich celebrity and they were unknowns. But if his reputation could be totalled by shaky accusations, this redistribution of power looks less like justice and more like a modern version of The Crucible.

Again, some will argue this doesn’t matter: wronged women will always far outnumber the wronged men. But the recent positive changes can be sustained only if we acknowledge that there has been an overcorrection, and some have suffered because of it, and we need a balance. It means listening to allegations but not confusing them with proof. And it also means never forgetting that fortysomething men who date teenagers should be treated how Rose treated Jack in a movie I’m old enough to remember: they should be pushed into the sea.

I too am a minor but tbh my bi-awakening was so freaking weird. Like, tell you what I was so sheltered from the queer community when I was young that I didn't even know it existed until I was 12. Even in my country gay people as well as bi people are taboo and are considered dirty, they are always shown as prostitutes and always having wild sex, they are always in adult movies and TV shows and I have never seen a normal, comfortable gay romance in my life. I only got to know about it on the internet. It amazes me how my parents are still trying to shelter me from this side of the world but also know and think that I know everything about it(It's the matter with everything honestly they never show me or talk to me about things like even normal things like studies and other things but expect me to know about it and if I don't they are surprised). At first, I thought I was a lesbian then I ventured out more and thought I was Pansexual but then with realization I think I am a comfortable Bisexual. All throughout my life I either didn't know what LGBTQIA+ was made to believe it was something "bad and dirty" but then I fell for my own straight best friend (tough days, will never tell her) then I fell for another one of my friends who was actually bi too, we flirt with each other a lot, I even asked her out on a date, it was pretty much settled but I couldn't tell my mom about the whole "date" thing and so I said just a casual meet up and study session and she declined and so I missed my chance, then afterwards the exam pressure started, I didn't have any time to do anything but study and then turns out she started dating another guy(Stings more because a few days ago she asked me if I had some beads for a bracelet, because she wanted to make couple's bracelets for her bf I had to painfully decline) but I think I am slowly moving on from her, though the progress fails each time I look at her again. But now I think I might have found someone on this webbed site, we are the same nationality and we have a ton of chemistry, but because of problems and that we are both minors there is no way to progress this relationship sadly :( (Also yes I am bi because I am still attracted to guys, just the wrong guys since the guy is an asshole with a nice face and great manners and flirtation skills, the problem is he's dating a girl I've knows since I was 12, but they got together on a fucking dare, tell me how long that's gonna last, still the amount of shit I've heard on this guy is terrifying and there is no chance whatsoever, pretty sad but oh well not the last guy)

The wrong idea was that it was one of Chris' published books. The post's poster thought that the translated version of the interview vanished as its page was empty (had an error or something) some time last year (or even durning several attempts to access it.)

The thought that didn't turn into actions was to just look for all Chris' books to try to understand which one it could be.

Finally, the idea was to try to open English translated version of the interview. It is there :D :D :D
