Timm wasn’t dimm.
Or bad(d). At least, I don’t think so…
^Cassian is trying to persuade Bix to contact her black market buyer (Luthen) so that he can get enough credits to flee Ferrix until the heat from his double homicide cools down. It’s a Timm Karlo perspective shot here… he’s just kind of barged onto the scene having found an excuse to interrupt them.
I really like Bix’s ‘I’m in charge here’ hand on hip pose, tiny irritated smile, more than slight hint of superiority and condescension and dismissive blink-shrug. Meanwhile, Cassian’s side-eye brief but potent stare says it all about his opinion of Timm. (Great acting from both in this micro-moment btw)
It’s almost like a couple of parents with a child: not now, Timm, the grown-ups are talking! When one of the parents dislikes you too - he’s been a snarky bastard and dismissive of Bix’s feelings in front of you before … all that Haha, she’s tougher than both of us! crap he’s spouted your way. You’re really tired of hearing that.
Timm gets a lot of hate and I wouldn’t defend his betrayal in a million years… But we’re given his perspective here and you can see how his mind would work. Imho he’s neither an idiot nor evil - Andor very rarely deals with black and white extremes. Circumstances add up and Timm makes a… terrible choice. Same as a lot of characters in this series.
More of Timm’s perspective below…
There’s your beautiful boss who is finally (?) returning at least some your feelings, although she’s a bit skimpy with her affection, what with that whole ‘one night a week’ thing. And here she is yet again with this dodgy bastard who is apparently maybe some kind of illegal immigrant, or at least not who he’s supposed to be… an old ‘friend’ (with a reputation as a slut ) and ex-lover who seems to disrupt Bix’s day whenever he calls round for another one of these secret whispered meetings where they are clearly Up To Something. Pointedly excluding you. Like this.
And to add to all this - this boss-girlfriend who sometimes treats you a bit like a boy-toy (but that’s okay with you because you’re such a messy mixture of obsessive love and paranoid insecurity that you’ll do anything for her!!!) … looks like Adria Arjona. And the shady ex looks like Diego Luna. That’s enough to get the klaxons sounding.
Later, you will discover that this guy is a wanted criminal. She’ll make up another excuse to skip a date with you. You will then spy them in a bar and see him getting handsy with her. You’ve been drinking, and at this stage all your wrong conclusions add up wrong too and the green-eyed monster takes over. Plus, whatever shady stuff they are up to could actually be putting her in danger. And of course… your relationship could be in trouble. So why not kill two birds with one stone? Yeah, you could try to talk to her you suppose but… You don’t feel confident enough to do that. You’re a bit afraid and insecure. A bit of a coward, maybe.
Poor Timm. There, I said it. Very few people do. Kim Ellendale (one of my favourite YouTube reactors) actually cries when he gets killed and I really appreciate that. Bix cared about him (even if it was pretty lukewarm ) treated him a bit dubiously tbh in some ways (using him for comfort sex). But he didn’t deserve to die - rushing to her aid, no less.

Self-confessed Bix/Cassian shipper here and I honestly don’t think you’re alone by any means.
In summary “It’s complicated” but I think the Season 1 production notes from Tony Gilroy sum it all up well: “They have been circling each other and dating and breaking up since they were like 10 years old. They are meant to be together, but its been impossible all these years. By the time of our show, she’s done with him – he’s burnt every last bridge.” Not just a one-off short term teenage romance, in other words. Several attempts. Ultimately doomed because of Cassian’s character. (Although he’s a different man by the end of the season so all bets are off…)
The friendship is very strong. The love in that sense is very strong and obviously they’re kind of sibling figures too so that love is also very strong . But when things get intense between them, there’s this kind of… regret, I think I would call. It’s not so much resentment as … disappointment? Adria Arjona has described Timm as “Bix’s plan B”. “ you can have a love of your life, and you can have a love for your life. Timm is the love for her life”. (Obvious implication there about Cassian as the love of her life, but again - it wasn’t to be).
Personally , I don’t think they’re in love in S1 but I don’t think there are healthily over each other either. Delicious subtext in the Ep 7 scene makes that clear. I think there’s something on the back burner. Whether that is brought back to full boil in s2 is anyone’s guess! But in general terms – yes they love each other. The friendship runs deeper than the romance. I think it’s a fascinating relationship.
me being the only one in the andor fandom that believes cassian and bix were childhood friends that dated for a short while before deciding that they were better as friends instead of thinking they are bitter exes or still inlove with each other
