Aroha nui Christchurch
Madness seldom has a logical answer.
Let us focus on the great men and women we have lost. Let us forget the cowardly snake. He who shall not be named. He who shall wither while we thrive. Let us forget his incoherent rambling words. Let his malice strengthen us. Let his dastardly actions be the catalyst for our compassion. Let us show the world these are our brothers and sisters, our fellow New Zealanders, for we are a nation of immigrants. Let us show that these are our friends, our neighbours, our colleagues, our families, our countrymen. Let us embrace them with open arms. Let us be kind, for we are a people of peace and unity and hope. Let us choose love. Let us choose life. Let us choose cooperation and care. Let us contribute more than we take away. Let us help.
Let us honour the fallen.
Rest in peace Haji-Daoud Nabi, Naeem Rashid, Talha Rashid, Husne Ara Parvin, Mucad Ibrahim, Abdullahi Dirie, Atta Elayya, Hussein Al-Umari, Amjad Hamid, Mohammad Imran Kahn, Osama Adnan, Sayyad Milne, Vora Ramiz, Ashraf Ali, Khaled Mustafa, Hamza Mustafa, Ali Elmadani, Linda Armstrong, Syed Jahandad Ali, Ansi Karippakulam Alibava, Farhaj Ahsan, Mojammel Hoq, Kamel Darwish, Haroon Mahmood, Abdelfattah Qasem, Lilik Abdul Hamid, and those not yet named.

Brenton Tarrants mother is seen for the first time since massacre
The mother of accused mosque massacre gunman Brenton Harrison Tarrant is distraught and ‘bewildered’ by her son’s horrific actions.
Sharon Tarrant, 57, was seen for the first time outside her Grafton home on Monday, as counter-terrorism officers searched the premises.
Her partner Gerald Tory said Mrs Tarrant had not spoken to her son since Friday’s mass shooting, and could make no sense of what he is accused of doing.
‘Sharon is bewildered, we both are,’ Mr Tory told Daily Mail Australia.
He said Mrs Tarrant was being kept in a safe house by police because authorities feared she and eldest daughter Lauren could be ‘targets for retaliation’.

Australian-born extremist Brenton Harrison Tarrant (pictured), 28, has been charged over Friday’s Christchurch terror attack
Mr Tory said Brenton’s family wanted to denounce her son’s actions and offer her condolences to the 50 victims of the Christchurch terror attack.
He also revealed Mrs Tarrant had no interest in travelling to New Zealand to see him or seek answers about why her son had allegedly carried out the massacre.
‘What he did is appalling, it’s pathetic. I’m gutted by it. I feel for my partner (Sharon). She is bewildered, she’s just absolutely gutted,’ Mr Tory said.
‘I hate Brenton for what he’s done.
‘Personally I do not approve of any type of violence like that and I am totally gutted.’
Mrs Tarrant was teaching a double period of English at Maclean High School when her son allegedly opened fire at the two mosques, packed with worshippers attending Friday prayers.
It wasn’t until journalists began calling the high school that her colleagues were able to remove Mrs Tarrant from her class and told her the shocking news.
‘I was called from work by Lauren (Tarrant’s sister) – she said “You’ll have to go and find mum, something very bad has happened”,’ Mr Tory said.
Mr Tory said he was not close to his partner’s son and they had only met on a number of occasions.
He said the whole Tarrant family was appalled by Brenton’s alleged attack and wanted the victims’ families to know they were thinking of them.
‘I feel for the families in New Zealand, there are a lot of innocent lives lost. I’d love to go to New Zealand and put my arms around the grieving families but I can’t because I have to work,’ Mr Tory said.
‘What he did is appalling, it’s pathetic. I’m gutted by it. I feel for my partner (Sharon). She is bewildered, she’s just absolutely gutted,’ Gerald Tory (right), the partner of Mrs Tarrant, told Daily Mail Australia
Mrs Tarrant was seen on Monday for the first time since the massacre as she emerged from her home near Grafton after police conducted a three-hour raid on the property
Mr Tory said Brenton’s actions had shocked his family and revealed his mother or sister had no interest in travelling to New Zealand to see him or seek answers about why he allegedly carried out the massacre
Brenton Tarrant’s mother’s home in Lawrence, near Grafton NSW was also searched by police
Mr Tory claimed a turning point in Brenton’s life had been the death of his father Rodney to cancer in 2010.
‘Brenton was very private after what happened to his dad. I said to him when I met him: “Mate, I can’t replace your dad, but I’m a shoulder for you if you need it”.
‘Brenton and Lauren found their dad dead. That’s why Brenton took off overseas, you know, to get away and just to ponder a bit about life.’
During Monday’s police raid Mr Tory remained at he and Mrs Tarrant’s home, with their much-loved dog Zarley.
Daily Mail Australia reported the white fluffy dog had been left alone at the house after police took Mrs Tarrant into hiding, but Mr Tory said that was ‘not true’.
‘That little dog is so well cared for and loved… I am here with her now, she has never been left,’ he said.
‘I don’t know when Sharon will be back, she doesn’t even know. But this dog will not be on her own.’
Mrs Tarrant emerged from her home just before midday on Monday after Australian Federal Police finished a three-hour search of their house.
Wearing a blue and pink floral blouse, she was supported by a middle-aged man and flanked by detectives.
The death toll from the Christchurch terror attack has risen to 50. Mr Tory said Mrs Tarrant wanted to offer her condolences to the families of the innocent victims

Tarrant, who made a ‘white power’ gesture during his court appearance on Saturday (pictured), has so far been charged with just one count of murder. Police are expected to lay more charges against the accused gunman in the coming days
Tarrant grew up in this house in Grafton in the Northern River region of Australia’s New South Wales
She was then driven away to a undisclosed location where she has been staying with her daughter Lauren since Friday night.
Officers earlier left the house with a few bags of evidence after a three-hour raid.
Meanwhile, heavily-armed police were also seen searching the accused gunman’s Dunedin home on Monday morning.
Officers arrived at the Anderson’s Bay house at the same time Australian Federal Police were carrying out simultaneous raids at Tarrant’s mother’s and sister’s homes near Grafton.
The one-bedroom house in New Zealand has been Tarrant’s home for the past two years, and it is believed to be where he planned the terror attacks.
Eight specialist search officers were seen putting on hazardous-material suits and gloves before they entered the suburban house, just after 11.30am local time.
They focused a lot of their search on the roof of the weatherboard house and on bushes and garden around the property.

Police would not comment to Daily Mail Australia on the raid, only saying it was an ‘ongoing investigation’.
Meanwhile, counter-terrorism police have raided two homes in Australia as part of investigations into the Christchurch terrorist attack.
Officers from the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team searched a property in Sandy Beach, near Coffs Harbour on the NSW north coast about 8.30am on Monday, before storming a second house at Lawrence, near Maclean.
‘The primary aim of the activity is to formally obtain material that may assist New Zealand Police in their ongoing investigation,’ the Australian Federal Police and NSW Police said in a joint statement.
Brenton Tarrant’s sister Lauren lives at the Sandy Beach property while his mother Sharon lives in Lawrence.
There is a heavy police presence at both properties.
NSW Police said there was no threat to the community related to both searches.
They focused a lot of their search on the roof of the weatherboard house
Police would not comment to Daily Mail Australia on the raid, saying it was an ongoing investigation
New Zealand Police searched near the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch on Monday
Officers inspected vehicles and the streets near the mosque as people came to pay their respects to those who died
Meanwhile, officers also searched the Dunedin home of Brenton Tarrant
Tarrant, 28, was charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed 50 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday.
Tarrant’s mother is a teacher at a local school. She had to be whisked away by police mid-class when reports of the attack first came through on Friday.
She and Tarrant’s sister have been placed under police protection, without mobile phone contact with the rest of their family.
He grew up in the north-eastern NSW town of Grafton before moving to New Zealand in 2017.
Tarrant’s family has been assisting police with their inquiries after the massacre.
The last time Tarrant returned home to NSW was for his sister’s birthday last year.

Christchurch
I cannot believe the audacity of some people. How this terrorist attack can be condemned as an attack against terror? Innocent lives were shot at a time that people would not be able to defend themselves. You call Islam a terrorist religion as a reason to pray on them and make a victim of yourselves. Their faith is beautiful. They are our people and we should look after them. I’m so ashamed this has happened in the country I live in and essentially feel safe in. For all of us to feel safe in. Muslims will keep going to these mosques and praying and practicing their religion in the face of fear and this is bravery. Bravery that should not be even thought about, practiced because people have the right to religious freedom. Grandparents, children, adults had their lives taken from them. Make no mistake this was not the consequence of immigration but instead the blame is entirely on islamophobia, hatred and some sick sense of white supremacy.
Names that should never be forgotten or treated as a statistic in this sick supremacist game; some of these people are dead. Some are in intensive care. Some are orphaned. Some are missing. ALL are traumatized. : Mucad Ibrahim, Zulfirman Syah and his son Averroes, Abdullahi Dirie, Heba Sami, Sayyad Milne, Khaled Mustafa and his son Hamza, Naeem Rashid and his son Talha, Ansi Karippakulam Alibava, Vora Ramiz, Farhaj Ahsan, Mojammel Hoq, Atta Elayyan, Syed Jahandad, Hussain Al-Umari, Osama Adnan, Kamel Darwish, Haroon Mahmood, Husne Ara Parvin, Mohammad Imran Kahn, Amjad Hamid, Abdelfattah Qasem, Linda Armstrong, Ali Elmadani, Haji-Daoud Nabi, Lilik Abdul Hamid, Ashraf Ali,
How many more people have to suffer before people realise that we are all equal.

Christchurch massacre hero makes emotional return to shooting scene
The two heroes of the Christchurch mosque massacre have made an emotional return to the scene of the bloodshed.
Linwood mosque Imam Abdul Lateef Zirullah, better known as Brother Lateef, and ‘Eftpos machine hero’ Abdul Aziz, from Australia, were re-united for a traditional Maori ‘cleansing’ ceremony at the Linwood mosque, where the pair’s heroics saved many lives on Friday.
An emotional Mr Lateef broke down in tears during the service and was comforted by mourners, including a police officer who was seen laying a friendly hand on the Imam’s back.
The service was held just metres away from a growing mountain of flowers, and on a street where strangers have spent the weekend spontaneously hugging Muslims.
A picture of Mr Lateef soaked in blood has become one of the enduring images of the tragedy, which has been described as New Zealand’s ‘darkest day’ with the loss of 50 lives.
Mr Lateef was the first to spot gunman Brenton Harrison Tarrant and raise the alarm outside the second mosque on Friday afternoon, warning worshippers to get down.

Brother Abdul Lateef Zirullah (left) and Abdul Aziz (right), the two surviving heroes of the mass shooting at Linwood mosque attack, have made an emotional return to the scene three days on
Brother Lateef broke down in tears during a traditional Maori ceremony at the mosque. He was the first person to spot accused gunman Brenton Harrison Tarrant out the window and warned worshippers inside, saving countless lives
During Monday’s ceremony a policeman placed a comforting hand on the back of Mr Lateef as he broke down in tears
‘From the window, I sighted him (and) I thought maybe he was a policeman,’ Mr Lateef told Daily Mail Australia.
‘But then when I saw on the floor next to him was another (dead) lady, I said “no”.’
Mr Lateef could hear the killer’s muffled, but clearly offensive, yelling, through the window.
‘I can’t hear him very well clearly inside but I know he was saying something, like using this vulgar word,’ he said.
‘I realised he is amiss and something must be done. Initially people didn’t understand but eventually people got to know what happened.’
After being alerted to the gunman by Mr Lateef, Mr Aziz picked up the first thing he could find – an Eftpos machine – and ran to confront the attacker.
When he got outside Tarrant had returned to his car to swap guns.
Mr Lateef told Daily Mail Australia that he saw Brenton Harrison Tarrant (pictured) out the window of the mosque and initially thought he was a policeman, before noticing a dead body on the ground nearby
Moments after the gunman fled the scene Mr Lateef was photographed on the street wearing a bloodstained garment
An emotional Mr Lateef was comforted by dozens of mourners during the traditional cleansing ceremony
Mr Lateef told how after he warned worshippers, Abdul Aziz (right) grabbed an Eftpos machine and ran outside to chase the accused gunman
When Tarrant returned to his car to get another gun Mr Aziz chased after him and hurled the gun at the car, shattering the windscreen and scaring him away
Mr Aziz (right) said he could hear his two young sons inside the mosque urging him to come back inside and away from danger
‘From the window, I sighted him… I thought he was a policeman,’ Brother Lateef said. He then noticed dead bodies outside the mosque and yelled out to the worshippers at Friday prayers
Mr Aziz then saw a discarded weapon on the ground and picked it up, before aiming at Tarrant and squeezed hard on the trigger – but it was empty.
‘He got into his car and I just got the gun and threw it on his window like an arrow and blasted his window… that’s why he got scared,’ Mr Aziz said.
Inside the mosque Mr Aziz said he could hear his two young sons, aged 11 and five, calling for him to come back inside.
Mr Lateef said he had seen the iconic photograph of his robe covered in blood just moments after the massacre.
‘I was trying to rescue some brothers,’ he said.
‘I was thinking I could do something to save their lives, but, unfortunately, some of them, most of them had passed.’

Mr Lateef said he was ‘very pleased’ with a Maori cleansing of the land and blessing, which was held at the mosque on Monday morning.
The ceremony, known as a karakia, is regularly held after tragic deaths and was organised by the staff of New Zealand deputy police commissioner Wallace Haumaha.
Mr Haumaha said the process was much like an indigenous Australian cultural ritual.
‘It’s important to have that cleansing,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘We use it … to ensure we have cleansed all the evilness – not so much evilness, but everything left behind by those deaths, to allow the living to move on.’
It came after a Maori gang earlier performed a touching haka during a memorial at the Al Noor mosque on the other side of Christchurch.
Around ten members of Black Power, which was first formed in 1970, gathered near the police cordon at the mosque to perform the ceremonial dance on Sunday.
The death toll from the terror attack has risen to 50, with new details about the innocent victims continuing to emerge.
They include, Junaid Ismail, 36, who left behind a wife, three young children and a mother who relied on him to care for her.
Another, Ansi Alibava, 25, was eagerly awaiting her graduation ceremony from her masters degree in May, while Hussein Al-Umari, 36, was a regular at the Masjid Al Noor mosque.
Ozair Kadir (pictured), 24, was a student pilot at the International Aviation Academy of New Zealand and had been in Christchurch for just a year when he was killed on Friday
Syed Jahandad Ali, 43, from Pakistan was one of the 50 victims killed in the terror attack in Christchurch on Friday
Maheboob Allarakha Khokhar (left), 65, who was due to return to India on Sunday after visiting his son in Christchurch and Husna Ara Parvin (right), who was reportedly gunned down as she tried to save her quadriplegic husband from the shooter
Ashraf Ali (pictured) a respected imam at the Masjid Al Noor mosque who was originally from Fiji, is also thought to be among the dead
Also among the dead is Tariq Omar, 24, who is remembered for his kind and humble nature and was a former student of Cashmere High School in Christchurch.
Kamel Darwish, 38, who moved to Christchurch from Jordan six months ago and was awaiting the arrival of his wife and three children – was convinced to go to New Zealand by his brother, who had lived there since 2007 and said it was a ‘safe place to raise a family’.
Sixty-year-old Abdelfattah Qasem, from Palestine, was also killed on Friday at the Masjid Al Noor mosque – he was the Muslim Association of Canterbury’s former secretary.
Another among the dead is Musa Vali Suleman Patel, 60, who was visiting Christchurch to see his son and was a highly respected leader of the Fiji Muslim League – he left behind his wife Saira Bibi Patel, three daughters and two sons.
Ramiz Arifbhai Vora, 28, and his father Arifbhai Mohamedali Vora, 58, were both shot dead on Friday.
The 28-year-old lived and worked in Christchurch and had a baby daughter a week before he was killed in the vicious attack – his father was visiting him from India at the time.
Syed Areeb Ahmed (pictured), 26, from Karachi, Pakistan lost his life in the horrific shooting attacks in Christchurch on Friday
Linda Armstrong (left), 65, and Tariq Omar, 24, were also brutally killed by the shooter on Friday in Christchurch

Mucad Ibrahim was attending Friday prayers with his father and older brother Abdi Ibrahim when a gunman stormed the al Noor mosque in Christchurch and opened fire on the worshippers.
It’s believed that at the time of the horrific attack, Mucad ran from the gunman while his father and brother played dead.
Tarrant dismissed his lawyer on Monday morning and now plans to represent himself in future court proceedings.
Richard Peters said the gunman had informed him he wanted to represent himself as his case heads to a trial.

Mr Peters said while the decision may seem irrational, Tarrant appeared to be ‘clear and lucid’, and did not appear to be mentally unstable.
Tarrant never told him why he wanted to represent himself, but Mr Peters said he ‘presumes the basis for that is that he thinks the job would be done better himself’.
The shock decision has raised concerns Tarrant will use what will be a high-profile murder trial as a platform to spread hate and vile anti-Muslim rhetoric.
‘I suspect that he won’t shy away from publicity, and that will probably be the way he runs the trial. The job of the trial judge will be to deal with that,’ Mr Peters said.
‘But it’s not a place for any views to be put forward. It’s simply there to determine innocence or guilt.
‘The court is not going to be very sympathetic to him if he wants to use the trial to express his own views.’
Tarrant is currently facing one charge of murder, but more charges are expected to be laid in the coming days.
The 28-year-old who grew up in Grafton, in regional New South Wales, live-streamed his alleged attack on Facebook.

Inside Brenton Tarrants Dunedin lair where he planned his massacre
The Dunedin home where accused terrorist Brenton Tarrant allegedly planned his massacre and wrote his sickening manifesto is a modest rental house with sparse furnishings.
Police descended on the Anderson’s Bay property, located four-and-half hours south of Christchurch, hours after the shooting Friday night, as nearby residents were evacuated.
Tarrant, 28, had rented the $280 per week house for the last two years, and must have been planning to move out as the place was currently being advertised.
A couple who live in the apartment adjacent to Tarrant’s home told Daily Mail Australia he was a ‘loner’ who never had visitors, but his rampage came as a complete shock to them.
The pair were barred from entering their home until Saturday evening, after authorities had conducted a thorough search of the 28-year-old gunman’s home.
A neighbour said Tarrant never had anyone over his one-bedroom apartment, and had never drawn attention to himself.

Neighbours described Tarrant as a ‘lovely guy’ but admitted they did not know much about him. Pictured above is the killer’s kitchen

Tarrant, an Australian national who moved to New Zealand years ago, admitted his plans for his attack in a chilling 73-page manifesto in which he revealed he had been inspired by previous mass murderers
Photos obtained by Daily Mail Australia show the interior of the nondescript home which cost $280 per week, according to a listing.
The neighbour said she and and her partner had a few friendly interactions with the Australian man, but did not know much about him.
‘We’ve got family up in Christchurch, so we were calling them (to see if they were okay) and then suddenly they’re calling us to say our house was on the news,’ she said.
Another neighbour said he had also never seen anyone coming or going from Tarrant’s home, but said the self-confessed terrorist had always given him a smile and a wave in passing.
The horrific event has left residents of Somerville Street in shock, with one remarking it had helped him meet a lot of his neighbours.
Police remained at the house well into Saturday morning, with one officer telling Daily Mail Australia authorities were guarding the home 24 hours a day to keep the scene secure.
