I can't believe I watched 327 episodes of supernatural only for my favorite character to be a guy who shows up in 5 of them.

Okay I always love the good angsty ā€œdevastated Crowley after the fallā€ ideas, but I feel like the majority of them surround him being depressed and sad- which was absolutely a part of it, but I feel like a lot of people miss the idea of Crowley being FURIOUS after the Fall. Raging against the injustice of it all; it was only a few questions! How could the very beings he considered brothers and friends do this to him? How could God do this to him? Not just to take away his creations but the very essence of what he was made for? Sure, heā€™d made a mistake, but nothing so much as to lose everything.
A lot of the other demons are still bitter, and mean, and evil to this day after the Fall; so why would Crowley initially be any different? Even now, despite being always inherently nice (even if he wonā€™t admit it,) another one of Crowleyā€™s core personality traits is that he has a rather short fuse and large explosions of anger and frustration. While he finds ways to vent and manage it throughout the years (ex. The plants,) his immediate reaction being anger is definitely something that is just instinctually there.
But just; freshly-fallen Crowley having to rediscover balance and humanity while everything around him tried to argue that he should let these feelings rule everything and that there was no hope, redemption, or goodness left for him. For the first time since Falling, stepping foot onto Earth in Eden and feeling fresh wind for the first time, seeing the sun (a star, even if it wasnā€™t on elf his favorites,) being shown kindness by an angel, the very kind of being heā€™d been encouraged to hate; finally having to stop his spiral of rage and look around for a moment and maybe even begin to accept things.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams briefly spoke with Luigi Mangione, the suspect accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, upon his arrival in New York for an arraignment. ā€œI wanted to send a strong message with the police commissioner that weā€™re leading from the front. Iā€™m not going to just allow him to come into our city,ā€ Adams said during a Thursday interview with PX11 News. ā€œI wanted to look him in the eye to say that, ā€˜You carried out this terrorist act in my city, the city that the people of New York love,ā€™ and I wanted to be there to show the symbolism of that,ā€ he added.

prescience as a plot device in DUNE: PART TWO (2024) and ARRIVAL (2016)
protagonists paul and louise both use prescience as a trust-gaining tactic ā€” a "narrow way through," if you will. let's start with paul, who treats his foreseeing ability as a sort of pseudo-telepathy. he sees a possible future where he lives among the fremen and hears their personal anecdotes. then, he simply parrots their own stories back to them to prove that he IS the lisan al-gaib, the voice from the outer world, the unstoppable foreign power who can and will not hesitate to lead them to paradise. you can physically feel the buildup of fear and reverence among the fremen in that scene as paul's immense bravado dispels all skepticism.
dr. louise banks exhibits a similar case. whereas paul is the messiah of the fremen guided by the bene gesserit (through lady jessica), louise is a hero of humanity guided by the heptapods. i'd like to bring up that amazing scene where she looks into the future to see general shang at a celebration of peace, and he ends up telling future!louise exactly what past!louise did to save the world ā€” which she uses to her advantage.
as it becomes apparent over the course of these films, there's something so devastating about the course of action taken by both protagonists. sure, they save the world, but what do they get? complete deprival of humanity and what it means to be a human. they sacrifice self-fulfillment for the fulfillment of a larger prophecy or ideal. after all, how can a person look up to their equal?
take paul and his personal relationships for example. chani of course, but also his closest friends and family (jessica, leto, gurney), are reduced to nothing more than simple variables in the prophecy. and take someone like jamis. in the film, there's a moment where paul says "jamis, talk to me," and these visions of smiling jamis fill the screen, and suddenly we're watching one of paul's futures where he and jamis could have been friends. it's genuinely heartbreaking for paul to see all these futures wither away right before his eyes.
Tumblr media
the ending of ARRIVAL is equally shocking to me. great, thanks for saving the world! hereā€™s a lover, and a daughter, but wait, youā€™ve seen exactly how and when sheā€™ll die from cancer. youā€™ve seen exactly how and when that very lover will leave you as a result of your passive premonition. but how could you have told him, that you knew everything and could only watch it happen? this was louiseā€™s dilemma.
Tumblr media
paul could have found a unconditional community, a place he truly belonged to and identified with. louise could have found her own family, with a loving husband and healthy daughter. their finales present them with everything and nothing: they receive all the recognition in the world, leaving nothing to themselves. the paradox of total control while having no control at all.

I love the idea that Dean wants Sam to agree that Cas is like another brother. The third Winchester brother and Sam is immediately like no. Dean is offended because wtf Sam he's laid his life down for us. While Sam is trying to actively get it through Dean's mind that there is already another brother which Dean waves off. And also it's cool that Dean sees Cas as a brother figure he just doesn't have that type of relationship with Cas. Which is the wrong thing to say apparently. Because well why aren't the two closer? What does it take for Sam to consider someone a brother huh? Does only blood count is that why he considers Adam a brother and not Cas? Meanwhile Sam is just sitting there thinking of all the reasons it would be very concerning if he saw Cas as a brother figure.
