" Il fabbricante di scale ha la sua bottega addossata a un'antica chiesetta romanica del Duecento ormai prossima a crollare completamente. Fabbrica scale da sempre, il mestiere lo ha imparato dal padre, il padre dal nonno e cosí via, come sempre capita per questi lavori artigiani. Costruisce scale fino a 34 gradini, per gli alberi più alti, specialmente per gli ulivi giganteschi nella zona di Ostuni, di Monopoli. La scala media più usata è quella a 20 gradini. La maggior quantità di scale viene venduta in occasione di fiere e mercati. La fiera più importante della zona avviene proprio qui a Modugno, in paese, nel mese di novembre. Un'altra fiera importante la fanno ad Acquaviva delle Fonti. Ma quella di Modugno è piú importante perché cade di novembre, il mese di piena per la raccolta delle ulive.

Il legno più usato è il castagno e l'abete. È un lavoro che è rimasto, salvo in qualche fase, essenzialmente manuale. Adesso i fori alle fiancate laterali della scala dove vengono fissati i pioli, vengono fatti a macchina. I pioli vengono prima fissati ad una fiancata della scala battendoli forte con l'ascia, ma prima bisogna avere l'accortezza di bagnare la punta del piolo nell'acqua, cosi l'accoppiata viene piú forte. Poi si mette l'altra fiancata della scala e, messi i pioli nei dovuti fori, si procede a fissarli definitivamente coi lavoro di inchiodatura. Alla fine la scala viene rifinita con la raspa e con un attrezzo, formato da una lama tenuta da due manici. Poi mi confida: "Caro amico, è un lavoro duro il mio, specialmente per me che debbo lavorare in questa bottega povera. L'interno è troppo piccolo e mi tocca lavorare estate ed inverno sotto questa tettoia. Lavorare nelle stagioni buone qui sotto è una delizia ma l'inverno fa molto freddo. Con questo lavoro guadagno abbastanza, però non sono riuscito a arricchirmi perché lavoro onestamente. Il cliente lo voglio trattare bene. Ma sono soddisfatto lo stesso. Tra poco debbo partire per una fiera a Gravina e sono contento perché vado a svagarmi un poco. Caricato il camioncino di scale, parto in compagnia di un buon panino e di un fiasco, di vino. Ricordo quando ero piccolo e viveva la buonanima di mio padre, si partiva a notte fonda, con il traino, per arrivare alla fiera ci si metteva piú tempo ma ci si divertiva di piú per la strada. "

Globally, companies that want to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical experience invest in implementing graduate schemes. It is common for large companies to do this, but steadily, even smaller organisations are considering the value of bringing candidates into the world of work and providing them with the opportunity to become a part of a larger team.

Application timelines are dependent on the company. However, the advice to students is to get a start on applications in their final year of college or university, or immediately after graduating. Depending on the company, some will evaluate applications on a rolling basis, whereas others may implement application deadlines. For students, applying sooner is always better, as many schemes tend to be highly competitive.

Is a Permanent Job Guaranteed?

It is not always true that a graduate will land a permanent role upon completing the programme. Others will quickly realise the graduate scheme isn’t what they expected or hoped for. However, the training, mentorship and experience gained will be invaluable for the next career opportunity.

Maintenance As A Love Language is a queer solarpunk slice-of-life illustrated story about seeing through another’s eyes and taking care of each other as time passes by.

It’s been a few years since Volta and Sirio have first found each other and settled in the town of Acquaviva, but bridging the gap between very different ways to experience every day life still takes work, even for something as trivial as talking about coffee.
