Choosing the Perfect Drapery for Your Condo Selecting the perfect drapery colors for your condo can transform your living space into a personalized paradise. It is imperative to make informed decisions when it comes to your home decor. With expert guidance from Crazy Joe's Drapery And Blinds, you can create a stylish and cohesive look. The choice of colors influences not only the aesthetic appeal but also the mood and functionality of your room. Therefore, it becomes essential to consider several factors which we will explore in detail. Understanding Your Condo’s Lighting Natural and artificial lighting in your condo affects how colors appear. Before choosing any drapery colors, assess the direction of the sunlight in your rooms. Spaces with abundant natural light may benefit from muted tones that absorb light, while darker rooms could use lighter hues to open up the space. According to HGTV, understanding light dynamics is crucial in color selection for curtains. Additionally, the type of bulbs used in artificial lighting can change how colors are perceived, as stated by Architectural Digest. Coordinating with Existing Decor Achieving harmony between drapery and existing decor elements is essential. Your condo's furniture, walls, and flooring should complement the chosen drapery colors for a cohesive look. For instance, if your living room has bold patterned furniture, opting for neutral drapes can balance the visual interest. Better Homes & Gardens explains the principles of color coordination and its impact on interior design. Moreover, incorporating accent colors from the room in your drapery choice can tie the design together seamlessly. Reflecting Personal Style and Taste Drapery should reflect your personal style and taste, making your condo feel like home. Consider your preferred color palette and how it aligns with modern trends. Bold colors can express confidence and creativity, while softer palettes offer tranquility and elegance. Crazy Joe’s experts can help navigate these choices to ensure satisfaction and longevity. According to Elle Decor, understanding the psychology of color can enhance personal expression in interiors. Considering the Functionality of Space Different rooms serve different purposes, and your color choices should reflect their functionality. For example, the bedroom is a space for rest, so calming colors might be best. In contrast, a home office could benefit from stimulating colors that boost productivity. Real Homes advises considering function when selecting drapery colors as it can impact the room’s energy and usage. Crazy Joe’s offers a range of solutions that cater to each room’s unique needs. Toronto Interior Design Trends: Mixing Modern with Traditional
In the vibrant tapestry of Toronto’s architectural landscape, a unique blend of styles defines its interior design scene. As the city continues to evolve, so do the trends that shape our homes. Today, one of the most captivating trends is the harmonious marriage of modern and traditional elements in interior design. This approach not only reflects personal tastes but also celebrates the rich history and culture of Toronto. For homeowners seeking to create spaces that resonate with warmth, character, and a contemporary edge, the guidance of an Interior Designer Toronto can be invaluable.
The desire to incorporate both modern and traditional elements arises from a growing appreciation for the past while embracing the conveniences and aesthetics of contemporary design. Traditional styles, characterized by intricate details, rich colors, and timeless materials, provide a sense of history and familiarity. In contrast, modern design emphasizes clean lines, minimalism, and functionality. By expertly mixing these two styles, homeowners can create a balanced environment that feels both inviting and stylish.
One effective way to achieve this blend is through the careful selection of furniture and decor. For instance, imagine a sleek, modern sofa paired with an antique coffee table. The juxtaposition of the smooth, contemporary lines of the sofa against the ornate, detailed craftsmanship of the table creates a visual dialogue that draws the eye and sparks conversation. An Interior Designer Toronto can help homeowners navigate this delicate balance, selecting pieces that complement each other without overpowering the overall aesthetic.
Color schemes play a significant role in blending modern and traditional styles. A neutral palette serves as a perfect backdrop for introducing various design elements. Soft grays, warm whites, and muted earth tones allow traditional pieces to stand out while providing a canvas for modern accents. For example, a classic wooden dining table can be beautifully highlighted with modern, colorful chairs. The inclusion of a bold accent wall or contemporary artwork can also infuse energy into a space without detracting from its traditional roots.
Textures and materials are crucial in this design trend as well. Traditional materials like wood, leather, and natural fibers can be harmoniously mixed with modern elements such as metal, glass, and concrete. A well-designed room might feature a plush, traditional area rug laid atop sleek hardwood floors, accompanied by metal light fixtures that add a contemporary flair. This tactile combination not only enhances the visual interest of the space but also creates a welcoming atmosphere that encourages relaxation and comfort.
Lighting is another vital aspect of mixing modern and traditional designs. The right lighting can elevate a room’s aesthetic, bringing together various design elements seamlessly. Chandeliers with traditional charm can coexist with modern pendant lights, creating a layered lighting scheme that adds depth to the space. An Interior Designer Toronto can skillfully recommend lighting options that illuminate both traditional and modern features, enhancing their beauty while ensuring functionality.
In Toronto, where cultural diversity influences design, homeowners are also looking to incorporate elements that reflect their personal heritage or experiences. This trend encourages the integration of traditional designs from various cultures alongside modern interpretations. For example, a contemporary space can feature traditional textiles or artworks, creating a narrative that tells a story. Collaborating with an Interior Designer Toronto who understands these cultural nuances can help bring these personal elements into the home, ensuring that each space is uniquely tailored to the homeowner’s identity.
Another exciting trend in the realm of interior design is the use of open floor plans. These spaces encourage a fluid transition between rooms, allowing for the seamless blending of styles. A modern kitchen with sleek cabinetry can flow effortlessly into a traditional dining area adorned with vintage tableware. This open concept not only maximizes space but also creates an inviting environment for entertaining guests, where the modern kitchen becomes a backdrop for traditional gatherings.
Sustainability is increasingly becoming a priority in design, prompting homeowners to consider eco-friendly materials and practices when mixing modern and traditional styles. Using reclaimed wood for furniture or flooring can add a rustic touch that complements both design aesthetics. Additionally, selecting energy-efficient lighting and appliances ensures that modern convenience does not come at the expense of environmental responsibility. An Interior Designer Toronto with expertise in sustainable practices can guide homeowners in making eco-conscious choices that enhance the beauty and functionality of their spaces.
As Toronto continues to grow and change, the interior design landscape will undoubtedly evolve as well. Homeowners seeking to stay ahead of the curve will find that blending modern and traditional styles offers a timeless appeal that resonates with the city’s diverse character. This approach not only allows for personal expression but also creates spaces that tell a story, reflecting the rich history of Toronto alongside contemporary trends.
In conclusion, mixing modern and traditional design elements presents an exciting opportunity for homeowners to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also deeply personal. The expertise of an Interior Designer Toronto can significantly enhance this process, offering valuable insights into color palettes, furniture selection, and spatial arrangements. By thoughtfully blending these styles, homeowners can craft environments that celebrate the past while embracing the present, resulting in beautiful, functional spaces that stand the test of time. As this trend continues to gain momentum, Toronto will remain a city where the old and the new coexist harmoniously, reflecting its unique identity and vibrant culture.
Whether you’re renovating a single room or undertaking a complete home transformation, the journey of mixing modern and traditional styles is one filled with creativity and inspiration. Embracing this trend allows you to reflect your personality in every corner of your home, making it a true sanctuary that embodies your style and values. So, if you’re ready to embark on this design journey, consider collaborating with an Interior Designer Toronto who can guide you every step of the way, helping you achieve the perfect balance between modern aesthetics and traditional charm.

Bespoke Furnishing for Commercial Spaces: Enhancing Business Environments Across Canada
Tumblr media
In the dynamic world of commercial spaces across Canada, the concept of bespoke furnishing has emerged as a transformative force, revolutionizing both the aesthetics and functionality of businesses. Unlike mass-produced furniture, bespoke pieces are custom-made to meet specific needs and reflect the unique identity of each establishment, be it a trendy café in Toronto or a chic boutique hotel in Vancouver. This tailored approach not only enhances the visual appeal of a space but also elevates its functionality, creating environments that are both inviting to customers and conducive to productivity.
Bespoke furnishing offers businesses the opportunity to express their brand identity through personalized design elements. Whether it's custom seating arrangements that optimize space efficiency in a bustling restaurant or bespoke reception desks that make a bold statement in a corporate office, these pieces serve as more than mere furniture—they become integral parts of the brand narrative.
One of the key benefits of opting for bespoke furniture in commercial spaces is its ability to cater to unique spatial requirements. In a country as diverse as Canada, where architectural styles vary widely from coast to coast, off-the-shelf furniture solutions often fall short. Bespoke pieces, however, can be crafted to fit seamlessly into any space, maximizing both functionality and visual harmony.
Moreover, bespoke furnishing allows businesses to prioritize quality and craftsmanship. By collaborating with experienced furniture artisans and suppliers like Furniture Store, businesses can ensure that each piece is meticulously crafted using premium materials and techniques. This not only enhances the longevity of the furniture but also contributes to a superior customer experience, whether clients are dining, meeting, or relaxing in the space.
From the sleek, minimalist designs favored by tech startups in Montreal to the rustic, reclaimed wood accents adored by boutique hotels in rural Ontario, bespoke furnishing offers endless possibilities for customization. It enables businesses to differentiate themselves in a competitive market while creating memorable experiences for their patrons.
As Canadian businesses continue to embrace the benefits of bespoke furnishing, the trend is set to redefine the standards of commercial interior design across the country. Whether you're a restaurant looking to refresh your dining area or a retail store aiming to create a unique shopping experience, investing in bespoke furniture from a trusted restaurant furniture supplier can be the key to unlocking the full potential of your business space.

Transforming Toronto Bathrooms: How to Maximize Space and Style
Tumblr media
Toronto's diverse architectural styles often present unique challenges when it comes to bathroom renovations. With many homes featuring compact bathroom spaces, it's crucial to find ways to maximize both space and style. This guide will provide practical tips and ideas to help you transform your bathroom into a functional and stylish sanctuary.
Assessing Your Space
Analyzing Bathroom Layout
Before starting any renovation, it's essential to understand your bathroom's layout. Take measurements and note the location of existing fixtures. This will help you determine what can be changed and what must remain. Consider the traffic flow and how you use the space daily. Identifying these elements will guide your renovation decisions and help you make the most of your bathroom's footprint.
Identifying Storage Needs
Storage is a common issue in small bathrooms. Assess your current storage solutions and identify what you need to store. Do you need more space for towels, toiletries, or cleaning supplies? Once you have a clear idea of your storage needs, you can look for solutions that fit your space and style. Custom-built shelves, cabinets, and even repurposed furniture can offer creative and functional storage options.
Choosing the Right Fixtures
Space-Saving Fixtures
In small bathrooms, every inch counts. Opt for fixtures that save space without sacrificing functionality. Wall-mounted sinks and toilets free up floor space, making the room feel larger. Consider a corner sink if space is tight. Compact, multi-functional fixtures like a shower-tub combo can also be a great choice. Look for sleek, modern designs that add a touch of elegance to your bathroom.
Stylish and Functional Options
Choosing the right fixtures is not just about saving space; it's also about enhancing your bathroom's aesthetic. Look for fixtures that combine style and function. For instance, a frameless glass shower door can make the space look bigger while adding a contemporary feel. Modern faucets and showerheads in finishes like brushed nickel or matte black can elevate the look of your bathroom.
Creative Storage Solutions
Utilizing Vertical Space
When floor space is limited, think vertically. Tall cabinets, wall-mounted shelves, and over-the-toilet storage units can maximize your storage options without cluttering the room. Open shelving can create a sense of openness while keeping essentials within reach. Consider adding hooks or a pegboard to keep items off the counters and organized.
Hidden Storage Ideas
Hidden storage solutions can help maintain a clean and uncluttered look. Built-in niches in the shower or above the sink provide storage without taking up additional space. Vanity units with pull-out drawers or built-in hampers can keep your bathroom organized. Consider furniture with hidden compartments or mirrored cabinets that offer both storage and functionality.
Incorporating Modern Design Elements
Color Schemes and Textures
Choosing the right colors and textures can make a small bathroom feel more spacious and inviting. Light, neutral colors like white, beige, or light gray reflect light and create an airy atmosphere. Adding texture through tiles, wallpaper, or accessories can add depth and interest. Consider using large tiles to reduce grout lines and create a seamless look.
Lighting and Mirrors
Proper lighting is crucial in a small bathroom . Layered lighting, including ambient, task, and accent lighting, can enhance the space's functionality and mood. LED lights are energy-efficient and can be used for various lighting needs. Mirrors can make a small bathroom feel larger by reflecting light and creating the illusion of more space. A large mirror or a mirrored wall can have a significant impact.
Budget-Friendly Renovation Tips
Affordable Upgrades
You don't need a massive budget to transform your bathroom. Simple upgrades like new hardware, a fresh coat of paint, or updated lighting can make a big difference. Re-grouting tiles or adding a new shower curtain and bathmat can refresh the space. Look for deals on fixtures and materials at local home improvement stores or online.
DIY vs Professional Help
Deciding between DIY and hiring professionals depends on your skills and the scope of your renovation. Small projects like painting, installing shelves, or updating hardware can be done yourself. For more complex tasks like plumbing, electrical work, or major structural changes, it's best to hire professionals. This ensures the job is done correctly and safely.
Transforming a small bathroom in Toronto requires creativity and careful planning. By assessing your space, choosing the right fixtures, incorporating smart storage solutions, and focusing on modern design elements, you can maximize both space and style. Whether you're on a tight budget or looking to invest in a major renovation, these tips will help you create a bathroom that is both functional and beautiful.

Flow House in Toronto, Canada by Dubbeldam Architecture + Design
Dubbeldam Architecture + Design unveils Flow House, a semi-detached Victorian house in midtown Toronto that has been reconfigured for a creative couple and their children. The transformation of the 130-year-old home included adding additional living space on the back and top of the home, improving connections to the outdoors, and updating the interior and rear yards for contemporary living. The traditional front façade remains, while the interior is now a meaningful reflection of the family’s unique personalities, vocations, and shared experiences.
Also Read | 10 kitchen design ideas inspired by farmhouse style
Though less than five meters wide, with an added area of only 230 square meters, the home now seems much larger through a strategy of compression and expansion. Narrowed interstitial spaces enclose, creating a feeling of constriction, then open to larger spaces with lofty ceilings. And there are moments of surprise and delight – the merging of interior and exterior spaces, the introduction of natural light in unexpected places, and the playful sculpting of elements that establish an organic quality to the home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Referencing one homeowner’s profession as a ceramicist, the notion of tactility and craft permeates the home through materials, forms, patterns, and textures. Suggesting a complementary hybrid of Scandinavian and Mediterranean influences, the wood cabinetry, screens, and flooring in warm white oak are accented by concrete and Carrara marble sinks, antiqued brass fixtures, and hand-moulded clay pendants. A clean backdrop of white walls and shelving provides a blank canvas to showcase the family’s collection of art, tapestries, and sculpture from local artists, along with artefacts gathered during travels abroad and the owner’s ceramics. Colour animates the interstitial spaces of the home – terra cotta tiles are laid in a herringbone pattern in the entry foyer, and a wall of geometric cerulean blue tiles defines the bar between the kitchen and dining room.

Underpinned by an aesthetic of fluid contours – a deliberate contrast to the rectilinear floorplan – the house’s interior elements appear sculpted rather than built. The helical staircase connecting all four floors is a focal point that expresses the home’s sense of flow. Awash in natural light from the skylight above, the winding balustrade and natural oak treads cast shifting shadows throughout the day.

“Curvilinear forms are employed throughout," says firm principal, Heather Dubbeldam. "Arched openings between rooms incite anticipation as they frame views of what lies beyond, resonating with curved walls, display nooks, the kitchen island and banquette, further enhancing the house’s sculptural sensibility.”
In addition to utilizing the latest sustainable systems and materials to promote well-being, large windows and skylights provide abundant light, natural ventilation, and connections to the outdoors. Mahogany-framed, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors on the third floor provide access to a roof deck, while a similarly lofty door in the kitchen opens to the furnished back patio.

Similar spatial strategies continue in the design of the rear yard. The volumes of charcoal-coloured panels that comprise the new rear façade are stepped back on multiple planes to create a roof deck and recessed entrance. In the back garden, compression and expansion are further explored through narrowed planting beds that open to wider spaces designed for play, dining, and relaxation. The wooden pergola, brick pavers, and ochre outdoor furniture are a nod to the various temperate climates the family has experienced together. At the same time, the landscaping of lush plantings provides interest year-round.

Styling Tips for Modern Couches in Small Toronto Living Rooms
Whether you choose a sofa bed or a sectional sofa for your Toronto living room, here are some general tips for styling them in a smaller space.
1. Create a Gallery Wall
You can create a gallery wall by hanging pieces of art in different sizes and shapes above your modern couch. This will help you achieve a focal point and add visual interest to the space. Remember to pick modern artwork that goes well with your colour scheme and style.
2. Add a Statement Rug
Installing a bold, patterned rug under your modern couch can add colour and texture to a small living room. Choose an area rug that contrasts with the colour of your couch to make it stand out. The size of the rug should be large enough to fit under the front legs of the sofa while being able to anchor the room.
3. Add Accent Pillows
Adding accent pillows to your modern couch will help bring out a pop of colour and personality. Consider choosing pillows with bright colours, bold patterns, or interesting textures to give the room a unique look. You can also mix and match different sizes and shapes to achieve a layered effect.
4. Experiment with Lighting
Lighting can make a huge difference in the ambience of your living room. Consider using different types of lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. You can choose a floor lamp for ambient lighting or a table lamp for reading purposes. To add a cozy touch to your room, string lights or candles would be ideal.
5. Use a Console Table
A console table is a versatile and preferred piece of contemporary furniture in many apartments and condos in Canada. You can place it behind your modern couch to create a visual division between your living room and other areas of your home. Incorporate some decorative accents like a lamp or flower vase on the console table to create a cohesive look.

Everything You Need to Know About Thin Brick Veneer and Stone Veneer Accent Walls
Tumblr media
If you’re looking for a way to spruce up your home with an eye-catching accent wall, you may have considered thin brick or stone veneers. Both are great options for creating a stunning, one-of-a-kind feature in your home. But before you decide which of these two materials is right for your project, let’s take a closer look at how they compare.
Thin Brick Veneer
Thin brick veneers are a popular alternative to traditional masonry construction because they allow homeowners to achieve the same rustic aesthetic without having to install entire bricks. They also require less maintenance and can be installed quickly while still maintaining an authentic look. When it comes to thin brick veneer installation, there are several methods available depending on the space you’re working with. Dry stacking is the most commonly used method, but if you’re looking for something a bit more intricate, there are adhesive options that can help create complex patterns or textures that compliment the rest of your home's design.
Natural Stone Veneer
If you’re looking for something more unique than brick veneers, natural stone veneers might be the perfect choice. They come in many different shapes and sizes—from slate and quartzite to travertine and sandstone—and can be easily integrated into any existing design scheme. Natural stone veneer walls will last longer than their brick counterparts since they don't require any sort of additional maintenance or repair work over time like sealing or resurfacing. Additionally, natural stone is best suited for outdoor applications due its durability and resistance to weathering compared to traditional masonry construction materials like mortar or concrete blocks.
Accent Wall
Accent walls add texture and interest to any room in your house, whether it's made from thin brick or natural stone veneer materials. However, if you're considering installing an accent wall in your home, make sure that it complements other elements in the room such as furniture pieces and wall colors so that it doesn't overpower them. Additionally, consider using different types of lighting fixtures such as spotlights or recessed lights to really make the wall stand out from other areas of the room!

Fiona owns a vintage furniture store and decorated her apt. in Toronto, Canada with some of her finds.
Tumblr media
The apt. is above a storefront and Fiona loves the light it gets from the big windows.
Tumblr media
I must say that I love the peach accents.
Tumblr media
I would guess that some of the vintage pieces were painted with that pretty peach.
Tumblr media
This is done well, but it’s kind of weird to have a big shower in the kitchen.
Tumblr media
At least it’s a pretty shower and coordinated with the decor of the apt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The console table was hand built and made to look like lightening bolts.
Tumblr media
Lovely apt.

2023 Living-Room Furniture Trends: What's In and What's Out in Ontario
Tumblr media
Introduction
When it comes to transforming your living room, the choice of furniture plays a pivotal role. Furniture trends are constantly evolving, and staying up-to-date with the latest styles and designs can help you create a space that's not only functional but also visually appealing. In this article, we will delve into the 2023 living room furniture trends in Ontario. Whether you're looking to revamp your current space or starting from scratch, these trends will provide you with inspiration and guidance. Plus, we'll tell you why choosing northern-interiors.ca is the right decision for your furniture needs.
2023 Living-Room Furniture Trends
Embrace Sustainable Materials
In 2023, sustainability is a key theme in the world of furniture. Consumers are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of their purchases, and this is reflected in furniture trends. Look for pieces made from reclaimed wood, bamboo, or recycled materials. These choices not only reduce your carbon footprint but also add a touch of rustic charm to your living room.
Neutral Color Palettes
Neutral colors are timeless, and in 2023, they are making a comeback. Shades of beige, gray, and soft pastels are in vogue. These colors create a calming and versatile backdrop, allowing you to experiment with accent pieces and accessories to add pops of color.
Modular and Multi-Functional Furniture
With the increasing need for flexibility in our living spaces, modular and multi-functional furniture is on the rise. Sofas that can be converted into beds, coffee tables with hidden storage, and wall-mounted shelves that double as desks are all excellent choices for optimizing your living room space.
Vintage Revival
The charm of the past is making a resurgence in 2023. Vintage-style furniture with a modern twist is a popular choice. Think mid-century modern sofas, retro-inspired chairs, and antique-style coffee tables. These pieces add character and nostalgia to your living room.
Minimalistic Design
Less is more in 2023. Minimalistic design focuses on clean lines, uncluttered spaces, and functional furniture. Invest in sleek, simple pieces that create an open and airy atmosphere.
Natural Textures
Bringing the outdoors in is a prevailing trend. Furniture featuring natural textures like rattan, jute, and linen upholstery is gaining popularity. These elements add warmth and a touch of the outdoors to your living room.
Statement Lighting
Unique and eye-catching lighting fixtures are the perfect way to make a statement in your living room. Whether it's a sculptural pendant light or a chic floor lamp, lighting is not just functional but also a design element.
Customization
Personalization is key in 2023. Customizable furniture allows you to tailor pieces to your preferences, ensuring they fit seamlessly into your living room. From choosing the upholstery to the configuration, customization is the future of furniture.
Biophilic Design
Biophilic design, which incorporates natural elements and patterns, is a trend that's here to stay. Consider furniture with leafy prints, botanical motifs, or live edge wood to create a connection with nature.

Pharrell Williams' Goodtime Hotel in Miami Beach channels a "reimagined art deco" aesthetic
Pastel colours and wicker furniture clash playfully with the leopard-print fabrics in this Miami hotel, created by American designer Ken Fulk for musician Pharrell Williams.
The Goodtime Hotel, which was designed to reflect the famed art deco architecture of the local area, is a collaboration between Williams and entrepreneur David Grutman.
While Fulk was responsible for the interiors, New York firm Morris Adjmi designed the building and landscape architect Raymond Jungles worked on the hotel's outdoor spaces.
The Goodtime Hotel comes complete with its own pool club (top and above)
"We want The Goodtime Hotel to impart a feeling of both revitalisation and that rare, exciting thrill that takes over when you discover something special," said Williams, who has previously collaborated on the design of a two-tower residential development in Toronto.
"It's that adrenaline-fuelled sensation of entering a whole new setting and a whole new mindset. This place will provide a natural good time for all who come through."
A hand-painted hothouse mural features in the atrium
Set in a central, historic section of South Beach along the neighbourhood's Washington Avenue, visitors arrive at The Goodtime Hotel through a double-height archway placed within a corrugated facade.
Inside, an atrium entryway filled with plants and decorated with a hand-painted hothouse mural and art deco plasterwork leads to the lobby.
Leopard-print pillows are contrasted against the interior's muted colour scheme
The hotel houses 266 rooms as well as 100,000 square feet of public space. This includes Strawberry Moon – a restaurant and 30,000-square-foot pool club – 45,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, a gym and a glossy, peach-hued bar called the Library.
The rooms, which include a handful of suites, have either sunset views across Biscayne Bay or sunrise views out across the Atlantic ocean.
The Library is a peach-hued bar with built-in shelving
The interiors were decorated by Fulk in a "reimagined art deco" aesthetic to "recall the opulence and nostalgia of a time gone by".
Custom bedding and bespoke drapes feature in the guest bedrooms alongside leopard-print benches and pink rotary dial phones. A carpet woven with a pattern of wet footprints runs along the corridors.
In the hotel's restaurant and pool club Strawberry Moon, Fulk's design concept channels Caribbean and Central American resort towns such as Havana and Acapulco that were popular around the mid-twentieth century.
This theme is translated into features such as striped pastel tiling, vintage scalloped bar seating and pinstriped awnings.
The rooms are dotted with light pink accents
"When you arrive at the hotel and walk through our doors, it becomes a full-on experience," said Grutman, who owns several Miami-based restaurants and night clubs through his company Groot Hospitality.
"When you're at the Goodtime, we want you to feel like your worries and anxieties have been left outside."
The bathrooms incorporate brass elements
The Goodtime Hotel, which opened this month, is not the first project that Grutman, Williams and Fulk have worked on together.
In 2018, the trio collaborated to create the candy-coloured interior of Swan and Bar Bevy – a restaurant and bar in the Miami Design District.

A basement for rent
Tumblr media
Nam and Thomas, Thomas and Nam. Two brothers in the home rental business. Since they're from Quebec, Thomas is actually "Toma" and not "Tho-Mas".
I was desperate for a house in November, but most were available from December. It was the "off" season; the students were in the middle of a semester, so no question of moving out. It was the pre-corona era too, so all the houses were jampacked. For me it was snowy and frosty beyond imagination. Every house search was painful, every gust of wind hit my face like a tight slap, and every visit to a potential home was a disappointment.
When I first spoke to Nam D., I didn't understand anything he was saying. I spiralled down a sink of self doubt and I thought I needed to work on my English listening skills, but, "Hang on!" I thought. "I understand Chelsey, Kirsten, Adrienne and everyone else just fine. I watched Downton Abbey without subtitles, so I don't have a problem with the British accent either. This is some other problem" I diagnosed. I had moved into my basement room by then, and maybe Sifat apu was looking for a place to move in (or something, I don't remember). When she told me that my bariwala- landlord, had a "heavy French accent", I finally understood what was going on.
I was the odd one out in that house. I was a somewhat more conservative Muslim woman living with two male housemates because I had no choice, and no other house would have me. Off-season after all. I had to adapt. I kept my namaz er orna nearby at all times. Whenever I needed to maybe use the kitchen, open the fridge or just go hang out at the common space (I learnt not to do that very soon), I'd drape that around myself and cover my hair as ordained by religion (I think). I used a separate orna for the bathroom because I realized that I can't keep taking my namaz er orna to the bathroom. But the khimaar (that's what it's called) provided more coverage. It was a difficult conundrum, but I learnt to adjust, adapt.
The snow disappeared soon, and the grass appeared, the rabbits appeared. The sky cleared up a pretty bright blue. The virus made things foggy though, and my depression peaked. I pretty much stopped cleaning the house as I used to, everyday. Pretty soon, I stopped making my deshi style healthier meals. The processed food wrecked havoc. I stress ate, stress drank coffee before deadlines. No Ammu to tell me when to take a bath, no Ammu to tell me when to snap out of it, so my hair looked wonderful throughout the week (since you're not supposed to wash your hair frequently if you're following the Curly Girl Method). Strange, I thought I'd have a matted mess of hair that way. Strange how even our hair adapts to neglect.
Nilu apu's family helped me empty out the house before returning to Bangladesh. I spent an emotional week-or-two thinking about the cramped little basement. Before returning, I gave most of my stuff to my friends. Rajeshwari and I had a full blown crying episode at the bus stop. We just wouldn't stop hugging it out. The old ladies at the bus stop gave us weird looks. "You'll take care of yourself, okay?" "I'll come back soon, okay?" "Don't cry, okay?" we went, okay?
When I was still enjoying my last little trip to Toronto, saying my last goodbyes to Sarah, Alif, Zubier, Nam D. gave me a call. He found the little empty basement dirty, he said. He needed to call some cleaning service to clean out all the mess I'd left behind, he said. I hung up on him, because I had snapped out of my problems in the last two weeks. I'd mopped the floor, vacuumed all the crevices, scrubbed the toilet floors, dusted all the white IKEA furniture. Nilu apu had declared that my cramped little room, then empty, was spotless clean and nobody can clean better than me. Nam still wanted 60 dollars for the cleaning services though.
Two brothers, Nam and Thomas, Thomas and Nam. "Toma" because they're from Quebec. Nam because they're Vietnamese-Canadian. Both kinda cute, Nam more than Thomas. Both very businesslike, Thomas more than Nam. Both equally money hungry. Both kinda nice, kinda not.
