Unlike the magnificent DXB airport of Dubai, the Abu Dhabi airport always give me a sickly bowl of vomit feel, with the compound so cramped, dimly lit and comes with ceiling clearances so low I could even reach with my short hands. In my mental ranking of all the world’s airports I have been to, this transit point definitely be listed among the worst, just barely hovering above Jakarta’s. 

Leave it as soon as you found it and board your connecting flight. It’s that bad that I normally don’t book a return ticket via it. I would do Dubai any day, only if tickets were not sold out that is.
