Absinthe Market To Capture A CAGR Of 3.2 %, To Hit USD 65.2 Billion By 2032 | IMR
Tumblr media
Absinthe Market Size Was Valued at USD 49.1 Billion in 2023, and is Projected to Reach USD 65.2 Billion by 2032, Growing at a CAGR of 3.2% From 2024-2032.
Absinthe is a green or from time to time colourless processed alcoholic beverage with a sizeable share alcoholic drink fabricated from aniseed, wormwood, culinary herbs consisting of plant life and leaves of Artemisia absinthium and a few different aromatic materials. It has overall liquid alcohol content material of around 45-76%. If Absinthe incorporates no introduced sugar in it then it can also be labeled as a spirit. Pure absinthe incorporates a very excessive percent of alcohol through volume; though, while the client surely liquids it, the answer has been diluted with water. It is typically prepared from the purification of everyday alcohol, spices, herbs and water.
Whereas authentic kinds of absinthes incorporate absinthe acquired from white grape spirit redistilled, other, especially lesser absinthes had been produced the use of alcohol derived from grain, potatoes, or beets. Various type of herbs that may be used to make absinthe consist of angelica petite wormwood, hyssop, Melisssa, coriander, superstar anise, peppermint and veronica.

Birthday: December 21st
Race: Duskwight Elezen
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bi-sexual
Marital Status: Happily married, closed relationship.

Physical Appearance ––– –
Hair: Natural silver in hue and dusted with white highlights, it falls to mid neck in the front, and his shoulder blades in the back.
Eyes: A dark grey ‘white’ of his eye makes the moon white hues of each iris all the more vibrant. Strangely, they seem almost wolf-like in nature, though that could just be coincidence.
Height:  6'10 (208.28 cm)
Build: A militant style background, and strict upkeep have resulted in the sculpted muscle that makes up most of the Bowman's frame. Resulting in a tone that is well suited for agility, speed, and endurance.
Distinguishing Marks:
Facial scar; Only about a year old, this wound was obviously left by a sword given it’s depth and path. It cuts down from his right brow, over the bridge of his nose, and down his left cheek almost to the jawline.
Facial ink; intricate filigree like vines in dark grey ink adorn the right side of his face both above and below his right eye.
Crest of the Wolf; Above his heart rests the bust of a wolf in black ink.
Common Accessories:
Feather adorned hat; Rarely if ever seen without it, one might wonder if it’s removal or destruction would bring about the end of him with how attached he is to it. Weathered, but well cared for, it’s obvious that it’s been on every adventure the bard has had over the years.
Well made dragon scale collar; Stamped with a wolf’s head with an arrow in it’s jaws, the artisan made collar is of the bard’s own creation. An inch and a half wide black leather band circles his neck, with the outer surface wreathed in lavender hued scales from a dragoon’s signature armor. With a locking dog collar buckle at the back of the neck, and the crest of a dragon wrapped around an orchid at it’s front. The piece is both practical, and artistic in it’s design. The ‘d’ ring at it’s front also sports worry stone like pendant of a dark, night sky blue hue.
Silver orchid pendant; Strung from a sturdy chain and hangs low enough to kiss his collarbones, the pendant is as well worn as the holy symbol of a priest or paladin.

Smoking Habit: Frequent, usually an herbal mixture of medications and male birth control - though he will on occasion dip into fogweed to quell his nightmares and dull the pain of flashbacks/painful memories. Drugs: Aside from what he smokes, he usually avoids such substances unless properly prescribed to him by a medical professional. Alcohol: On occasion. He drinks to taste, and no longer indulges in wine as much as he used to - on account that it makes him into one -very- flirtatious and amorous drunk. Though he has been known to enjoy absinthe with select company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
RP Hooks ––– –
The Wandering Bard; The man is not hard to find, and even harder to miss. From the music flowing from his harp within the taverns of Eorzea, to his enthralling stories told in the streets to groups of interested people or curious individuals. From the smallest settlements, to the big cities, his name his known as is his talent. All one needs is a genuine interest, and the bard is ever humbly at your service.
The Night Hunter; Only in circles of voidsent hunters, is his skills as a professional seasoned hunter known to his peers. With a reputation for clearing up to A-rank marks solo, he has never over his career failed a contract. For the right price, his bow is yours should you wish to hire him. Should you be tainted, marked, or a creature of the void or light yourself however? Be weary, for the wolf is always watching, and eager for a hunt.
Bad Dravanian Artisan; A bit of a guilty pleasure for the bard, his skills in leatherwork has been turned from a hobby into a marketed craft to the public. From collars, to leashes, floggers, whips, crops, bindings, and harnesses, he produces quality lifestyle and kink gear to interested customers. Custom works are also available to order, and the man takes pride in his every creation - even wearing and putting his own work to use himself. Stamped with his signature of a wolf’s head with an arrow in it’s jaws - it’s easy to trace his creations back to him.
The Secret Author; Under the pen name ‘Heliake Norrst’ the bard has written and produced a great number of books available in most book stores across the world, and in multiple languages for his international fan base. While his work varies in genre from adventure, to horror, mystery, and tragedy. It’s his Romance novels and Steamy erotica that’s made him world famous. Perhaps your character is a fan? Perhaps your character has been on a mission to find out who this mysterious and enigmatic author really is?
Lost in the woods; As one who hunts for his own food, leathers, pelts, and other materials for his craft. The bard is as much at home within the forests of the Shroud and the Coerthean wilds as he is within his cabin. It would not be far-fetched for him to cross someone lost, or having fallen victim to the erratic weather patterns or wildlife within those regions. Be it him happening upon someone while on a hunt, or having someone banging on his cottage door in want for help or shelter. Both are equally possible.
The Kind Traveler; The bard is not one to leave another at the mercy of fate, and even in his more ‘off the beaten path’ traveling it’s not an uncommon occurrence to come across another in need of aid. Nor is he hesitant to offer it.

A TASTE OF ABSINTHE — ART SHOW — THE DOCTOR’S OFFICE
Tumblr media
You are invited to A Taste of Absinthe tomorrow, Friday August 17, 2018 at the Anna Maria Island Art League Gallery. The Doctor’s Office is hosting an evening event featuring: Sips from The Doctor’s Office amazing absinthe fountain!
Dating back to the 19th century, the affectionate name given to the absinthe drink was The Green Fairy. Absinthe is a lost spirit with a rich history that is being rediscovered. Absinthe has long been associated with fun and sharing and Picasso, Van Gogh, Oscar Wilde and many other artists loved to consume it. Absinthe was so popular as part of the 19th century French culture that the wine industry worried about their loss of market share to absinthe. They created fake news and as a concession to winemakers it was made illegal through most of the 20th century. Absinthe became rehabilitated around 2000 as scientists downplayed the dangers of wormwood and liquor marketers could recognize a great marketing opportunity when they saw it.
Absinthe is best served from an absinthe fountain. Today, absinthe fountains are appearing again, appealing to both veteran absinthe connoisseurs and to folks who have just discovered the charm of the Green Fairy. The fountains come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they all perform the same function. Although, much more than just a decorative fountain, a true connoisseur will tell you that they help to unlock the beauty, power, effects and true taste of great absinthe. The fountain delivers a steady drizzle of ice-cold water into glasses of absinthe that are placed under the taps. Small slotted absinthe spoons containing sugar cubes are balanced on top of the glasses. The water from the tiny taps drip water over the sugar diluting the alcohol-rich drink and activating the botanicals in the absinthe. As the sugared water drips into the clear green absinthe it creates a swirling cloud bespeckled with twinkling crystals from the dissolving sugar. Centuries of absinthe protagonists swear to the presence of a green fairy dancing in the swirling, sparkling cloud. Many people have never tried absinthe, much less seen a real absinthe fountain.
Join the Doctor’s Office and Anna Maria Island Art Gallery and share The Green Fairy while enjoying a unique experience of art and lifestyle. The whole experience is novel and one that I’m sure Anna Maria Island Condo Rentals guests will find most entertaining.
When: Friday, August 17, 2018 Where: Art League Gallery 5312 Holmes Blvd. Holmes Beach, FL Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Artwork by Anne Abgott A display of the accomplished works by Anne Abgott, world-renowned artist and best-selling author of Daring Color. You’ve heard of the rich and famous delving into the likes of alcohol production. You’ve got Marilyn Manson’s “Mansinthe,” a renowned absinthe used in some of the top cocktails bars worldwide, along with Francis Ford Copolla’s vineyards located in the heart of the NorCal wine country and establishing its beginnings 45+ years ago and then you have an endless supply of celebrities slapping their labels on pre-made tequilas, grape blends and bourbons already sitting in barrels and ready to bottle. But what of an army vet of the Gulf War whose story is told in the movie Black Hawk Down? Ok, this is getting interesting. How and why did he get into whiskey production? Is he also just plastering a label on bottles to overcharge for some pre-made blended malt and grain mixture? To answer these questions, we’re going to chat with one of only 269 Master Sommeliers worldwide, George Miliotes. Wait, sommelier? Isn’t that a wine professional? Why yes. Yes indeed you are correct. Nice catch! Mr. Miliotes has partnered with the aforementioned army vet Norm Hooten and longtime friend, Tim Young, to create a 12-year-old American whiskey to “honor the brave men and women of the armed forces.” So how does one go about jumping from sommelier to Master Sommelier to whiskey distiller? Mr. Miliotes please: How did your love of wine begin? And walk us through the tedious process to becoming a Master Sommelier. I was lucky enough to work with my father from a very young age (starting around 13 or 14 years old). While I wasn’t allowed to taste initially, I was always around wine with people talking and selling in a retail and restaurant environment. By the time I was 16, I was helping to sell wine and was allowed to smell it and regularly talk with wine salesmen and knowledgeable people. My love for wine and career grew from there. I personally didn’t consider anything about the process of becoming a Master Sommelier as tedious. For me, it was fun and interesting, it’s about as cool as it can get to get paid to learn about drinking. Part of the process is enjoying a lifestyle where you eat and drink very well. Do you or do you not wear your tastevine medallion 24/7? And do sommeliers get nervous serving you?  While I do own a tastevine, seldom does it see the light of day. It may be part of another Sommeliers repertoire (to each his own), it is not part of mine. LOL. That happens sometimes, but I try to keep that to a minimum and be as approachable as possible, but yes sometimes other sommeliers do get nervous. I'd rather they not recognize me and just be themselves though. How did you and Norm meet? And who’s idea was it to create a whiskey when you yourself are in fact in the wine business? As a Master Sommelier we are required to know not just about wine, but beer, sake and spirits as well. All throughout my life I've made a point to be in both the restaurant and wine business. The restaurant business makes you interested in things that taste good and whiskey tastes good when made and chosen correctly. Norm and I met through Tim, he is the one that brought us together. Tim has a love of good wine, whiskey and cigars, the three of us coming together has been really great. Can you tell us about how the three of you decided on which grains to use, what type of casks you’d use and how long the aging process would take? It was determined by arm wrestling, right? Norm was part of Delta Force, so Norm automatically wins any physical test. Norm is slow to anger, but not the guy to mess around with on physical strength, even still today. We wanted to get a product to market quickly, so aging something ourselves for 12 years wasn't particularly feasible. We went to MGP, one of the largest distillers in the world, who has stocks of lots of interesting things. We did spend a long time in the run up talking with MGP about what would be of interest. Everyone wanted bourbon at first, but my inclination was to have something that is fully differentiated. When we went to MGP we tasted a large number of barrels and we did look at bourbons and different mash bills. In the end it loops back as a Master Sommelier though, I wanted something that tasted really, really good and that was different. I felt that this 12-year-old American whiskey was unique and allows us to ultimately have a beautiful spirit. The uniqueness of our whiskey can be attributed to the 12 years of aging, as well as the second fill barrels instead of using the first fill. This way, you get more of the maple syrup, vanilla and baked apples opposed to something that is more overtly spicy and smoky. You can’t fake aged whiskey, much like you can’t claim wines are from old vines if they are new. Being able to find this aged American whiskey that is relaxed and different brings something new to an overcrowded whiskey market. After countless hours blending, evaluating proofs and tasting, we are thrilled with the final product. Are you regularly distilling to produce more Hooten Young American Whiskey or does your team have other plans in mind? What can we expect from Hooten Young in the future? We are constantly looking at other opportunities, that is kind of the fun of using our model as opposed to having our own distillery. For right now we are really happy with the spirit we have, but don’t expect us to slow down anytime soon. Last but not least, as a Master Sommelier who’s accustomed to pairings and tasting, our readers would love to hear your preferred way to enjoy Hooten Young American Whiskey. Any serving or pairing advice you can offer us?  A couple things, I typically drink Hooten Young American whiskey neat (meaning just an ounce or two on its own). I’ll have some distilled water nearby and [slowly] add to my drink in small amounts. This allows for the whiskey to open up and makes the bouquet and flavors more evident. If you don’t want to deal with adding in teaspoons of water, you can also put your whiskey over one block of ice and let it slowly melt into your drink. Living in Florida year-round, The Hoot cocktail (which we also serve at Wine Bar George at Disney Springs), is just about as delicious as it gets. Here’s the recipe: 1.5 oz. Hooten Young American Whiskey - Aged 12 Years 0.5 oz. G.E. Massenez Crème de Cassis 0.5 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice Shake and Pour into a Collins Glass Topped with a Splash of Ginger Beer Garnish with Lime Hooten Young is great in cocktails and it’s also a beautiful spirit on its own. I like to enjoy The Hoot cocktail in the late afternoon or at the start of meal. Then end with an ounce or two on its own at the end of a meal. I also think whiskey and steak is about as fun a pairing as one can have if you’re not into wine. Our whiskey in particular is mellow enough that it complements the pairing. Having an Old Fashioned with Hooten Young American Whiskey and a New York Strip Steak is just about as American and delicious as it gets.

Lance Winters Nuclear Engineer-Turned-Distiller Is Experimenting With American Agave
Tumblr media
Lance Winters serves as the master distiller and president of St. George Spirits, a craft distillery in Alameda, Calif., that prides itself on rethinking traditional flavors and ingredients. In his free time, Winters is one of the few distillers in the country roasting and working with California agave.
St. George Spirits began as an eau-de-vie distillery, which informed Winters’ process of sourcing and building spirits from the ingredients up. Today, he’s motivated by experiences, not labels, and is equally inspired by sudden smells as he is by lasting memories.
The distillery offers spirits and liqueurs that range from a green chile vodka to a California shochu. The company made waves in 2007 when it released the first legal absinthe, and with Winters at its helm, it prides itself on crafting careful, nuanced spirits that recreate a category’s landscape rather than copy its leaders.
Nearly a decade ago, Winters released a rum made from 100 percent California sugarcane that he describes as the “natural wine” in an otherwise “Bordeaux-like” rum world. To create it, a complicated experimental process led him to trace his ingredients straight to the source and learn a distilling process that prepared him to eventually take on the agave plant. Currently, he’s been tapped to work on agave passion projects with Mark Crotalo of Crotalo Tequila and the soil scientist Joe Muller, who asked Winters to help harvest and roast nearly 7,000 pounds of California-grown agave.
Still, Winters shares his struggles with harvesting, roasting, and distilling agave spirits here in the United States through a refreshingly honest, informed worldview. He recognizes the labor that Mexican distillers undergo to produce agave spirits, and is hesitant to release any of his agave spirits to the public for retail. He also insists that working through agave’s unique challenges makes his team stronger, and details a rare insider’s look into the production of his agave spirits below.
[Editor’s note: This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.]
1. Can you talk about your early background in brewing, and with the U.S. Navy — and how that led to your work with St. George?
Yeah, so my time in the Navy was time spent operating nuclear power plants. I trained as a nuclear engineer and was stationed on board the USS Enterprise. With eight reactors, there’s a lot of chemistry, a lot of understanding of physics, and not a lot of great parties.
While I was in the Navy, I started brewing beer at home. When I got out, I got a job brewing beer. A friend gave me a bottle of Lagavulin Single Malt Whisky, and it was the first spirit I tasted that I thought was so remarkable — something that transcended just an ethanol experience. It was a story in a glass, and I was completely enthralled by it. I started learning more about whiskey, and I realized that in making whiskey you start by making beer. So that’s what led me to St. George.
The way that nuclear engineering influences [my distilling is] when you’re working on a still, you have to understand the nexus of the physics and the chemistry that takes place inside that still, so as you’re changing operating parameters for the still, you know how it’s going to influence the product that comes out. It’s sort of like learning to play a musical instrument and understanding how you’re going to affect the music that’s coming out in the end.
2. How do you approach the idea of distilling creatively? Are you generally looking for a white space or navigating these previous memories that you have, and trying to recreate those experiences in spirits?
At the risk of utilizing an overused phrase, it’s a pretty organic process at the distillery. It’s the sort of thing that can be as simple as, I’m out at dinner and I see a flavor combination that gets me going; or, I smell something out in the woods and I’m like, “Oh, my God, I want to capture this.” I think it’s really all about external inspiration.
And, there are times where it’s like, “OK, what would this category be like if it was reimagined from the very beginning? How would somebody approach making this product if there weren’t already hundreds of years of tradition behind it? How would we start a brand-new tradition?” We try to stay away from the influences of the past. The only reason we look at what’s been done already is to avoid doing it.
3. Can you talk a little about the St. George California Agricole Rum? Where did you source the sugarcane from, and what was the inspiration and research for that spirit?
Initially, I wanted to make rum because I didn’t really enjoy most of the rums that I had had. So I stepped back and thought as an eau-de-vie producer, how would you go about making a rum?
When you’re making an eau-de-vie from pears or raspberries, you don’t make it from an extract [or] from a concentrate. You have to get the fresh fruit. In the case of the rum, the “fresh fruit” is sugarcane, it’s grass — we started looking for sugarcane growers in California. The first place that we found was down near Fresno. There was a group of Hmong farmers who were growing it to celebrate the New Year — it was an “eating sugarcane.” We purchased that and started running it through a cane mill. Then, we ended up tracking down a gentleman who was growing cane [near the Salton Sea] with a smaller diameter which [produces] a lot more chlorophyll. So you end up with a really bright, intensely green cane juice and that really bright, intensely green cane juice contributes this incredible funk to the whole thing.
Our Agricole rum is to regular rums what natural wines are to Bordeaux. It’s grassy, it’s got a lot of [notes of] black truffle, a lot of dirt, a lot of olives. It’s really, really interesting and I think that funk helps to balance out and anchor tropical cocktails that are made with it.
4. Tell me about working on your first agave project, Agua Azul, with [St. George Spirits distiller and founder] Jörg Rupf. What was it like sourcing and working with the agave?
I [worked] with Jörg Rupf 14 years ago. We didn’t know of any sources of agave in the United States so we looked around and we found a distillery that was willing to sell us agave [from Mexico].
We had it cooked, then put into a refrigerated truck to make the trip up to the Bay Area; then proceeded to go absolutely crazy trying to figure out how we would process it. They call [agave hearts] “piñas” but it’s not quite a pineapple. It’s much bigger, and they look more like tortoise shells. They’re heavy, sticky, and full of incredibly long, tough fibers. We broke a lot of equipment trying to process these and ended up getting to the point where we were able to bludgeon them just enough to get some fermentation going. And then we distilled, and it was good, but it wasn’t great. It was probably a little too clean.
It was sort of like what we were experiencing on the first goes with the rum: It was bland, kind of boring. It was nothing to be ashamed of, but it was nothing to scream about, either. And it was nothing about the source of the agave. What it turned out to be was about steam cooking versus pit roasting. Think about when you sear something on a grill or when you smoke it; you end up with so much more depth and flavor than if you boil it or steam it.
5. Since then, you’ve worked on a few American agave projects. Can you walk me through the harvesting and roasting of the blue agave used in your project with Mark Crotalo?
Jörg reached out and got in contact with Mark Crotalo [of Crotalo Tequila]. On his property down in Temecula, [Mark had] amended the soil and planted a bunch of agave. We had that harvested, then brought up to a farm up in Winters, Calif., where [his team] had dug a pit for us, lined it with stones, and then filled it with a mix of oak and eucalyptus.
It was about a three-day pit roast, and then all that agave was delivered to the [St. George] distillery. We were still trying to figure out exactly how we were going to process it, but my thought was that we should use our sugarcane mill. It’s a roller mill. We could press off all the juices from the agave, and then ferment it. And that’s what we did. We ended up with a relatively small amount of really, really beautiful, lovely, smoky agave spirit. And it had so much more depth and so much more complexity than the stuff that had been steam cooked.
6. Do you have any plans for Agave American spirits that might hit the market soon?
I’m really torn. It’s a very difficult spirit to distill, so working on that helps us at St. George hone our skills as distillers. We’re always looking for opportunities for personal and professional growth, and agave provides that in spades. As far as actually releasing it, I know that we’re going to release some for a benefit for the group YIIN, Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network. What’s kind of problematic for me, while I love making this stuff, is I feel like selling it becomes a form of cultural appropriation. And the United States is a tremendous act of cultural appropriation –– a cultural melting pot is another word for that, a much nicer way of saying it. And we would be nothing if it weren’t for the assimilation of all these different cultural things. But the people in Mexico who make agave spirits bust their asses to do so, and the last thing that needs to happen is for a bunch of gringos north of the border to come in and start trying to take that business. So, we’ll continue to make it, we’ll continue to have fun with it. But I think if anything, we’ll serve it by the glass at the distillery.
7. What are your favorite Mexican agave [spirit] brands, whether that be for tequila or mezcal? Are there any brands you think our readers should look out for?
One that rises to the top of the pack for me is this small distillery in Oaxaca called Gracias a Dios. And they’re not only great people, they make great products, and they’re also doing things differently. They’re replanting a lot of agave as they harvest, [because] they’re concerned with sustainability. They are also artistic about things: They have a beautiful gin that they’ve produced with agave as a base and it’s got 33 different botanicals representing the different states of Mexico. It’s a really layered, beautiful mezcal-based gin.
I love it when somebody is honoring tradition, but they’re also striking out on their own. To me, that’s what being a new distiller is all about. Being somebody who’s popping onto the scene now, you’re not duty bound to follow traditions.

Fuck Your Buzzfeed Article! 10 ACTUAL Reasons To Enjoy A Weekend Getaway In Rockford, Illinois
Every once and awhile a sarcastic Buzzfeed article starts trending among my friends describing a “Weekend Getaway” in Rockford, IL. This article has it all! It encourages the use of Kevlar vests, shits on local music and highlights chain restaurants as some of the best of the local flavor!
Now in all reality it was probably written by a whiny middle class white guy who lives in Byron or Belvidere and shudders at the mere sounds of ethnic diversity (so long as he can hear it over the sound of his needlessly large pickup truck). Nothing makes a community better like some good ol’ negative attitude!
Well, GOOD NEWS! You don’t have to be an asshole anymore! You can support local business, volunteer, vote, give back, and be positive! If you have a problem with Rockford, step up and help us work to make Rockford the best it can be, because Rockford is actually pretty great...
...still need convincing?? OK, that’s fair. Here are 10 ACTUAL Reasons to Enjoy A Weekend Getaway In Rockford.

Trust me.

 1. The People of Rockford
Tumblr media

Whether you think so or not, Rockford has a lot to offer. Sure it has it’s problems, but what city doesn’t? There are so many passionate and loving people who are proud of their address. They are working hard every day to make Rockford a better place (they came up with Beef-a-Roo for Christ’s sake). It’s time to stop making Rockford the butt of your jokes and start doing something about it. Ask yourself “How am I making Rockford better?” Certainly sharing garbage articles doesn’t contribute positively. It only gets better if you act. Be positive, be supportive, and enjoy your weekend getaway in beautiful Rockford, Illinois.

inlucisabsentiam :
His name was odd, and often the center of many a conversation. Even he was unsure as to why his parents gave him such an odd first name, and seemingly normal middle name. It took him up until his high school years to finally embrace using his first name, over simply using Gregory. Why the strange name, when his sister got the much more normal name?
Rasputin took notice of Robert’s sudden movement, as subtle as it might have been. His brows furrowed for a moment before Sebastian spoke again. The expression gone within the moment. He didn’t have that firm of a grip, he thought. Unless Robert was put off by his aura or something crazy that his sister might have quoted. Though, he couldn’t say a lot himself. While he majored in history, he took a genuine interest in the occult. He had contacts in Germany that allowed him to do exorcisms. He didn’t fear the darkness, not like he had when he was a child.
“I blame my sister, actually. I moved back to the states for work. Maple Bay is much closer to the publishing company for my books. She suggested I look into moving here, and failed to mention Sebastian lived here as well. A pleasant surprise. I had missed the mischief we would get into when he lived next to me in Hemel Hempstead.” He smiled, looking to his friend. Teeth covered. Gods only knew he didn’t need anyone saying anything about how crooked they were. Rasputin made a noise of disgust. “That thing? I intend on getting rid of it this evening, and planned on renovating some of the rooms in the house. It’s in desperate need of some changes.”
“You’ll have to let Mat know when you finish that listening room. You’ll have another music friend.” Sebastian chuckled. Pale eyes looked up at him, blinking behind black framed glasses.
“Mat?”
“The guy with the dreadlocks that owns the Coffee Spoon.”
“Oh, yes. That one. Perhaps. I…rather like my privacy, but a listening "party” may be in order.“ Rasputin hummed softly, taking a drink of wine. He really just wanted to get settled in. Get rid of the uneasy feeling in the house. It needed to be cleansed. It reminded him all too much of the Amityville house. Not that he scheduled a look into it some years ago when it was on the market…
Rasputin scoffed, shaking his head as he bowed it. Hiding his smile. "That is my dear Lilja. She uses our Nordic origins as her excuse.” He nodded once in reply to Robert’s question. “I do, though rarely to the levels or ferocity in which she consumes alcohol. I keep a good stock of wine, absinthe, and whiskey. I haven’t been to a bar since the last I was in Leipzig, Germany.” Sebastian grinned, snickering softly. Rasputin gave him a look that might have scared most people, but did little to phase the giggling of his old friend.
Rasputin’s explanation settled Robert a little.  That...actually sounded like something Lilja would do - just based off of the few times he’d met her.  So...less of a coincidence than it seemed.  Yeah...he preferred that.  After everything that had gone down in the cul-de-sac, despite his own hobbies, Robert just wanted a little ‘normal’ for awhile.  And maybe that was why he continued with the small talk.  Or maybe...maybe t wasn’t small talk - maybe he really wanted to knoe more about Rasputin.
“Writer, huh?”  That was one theory confirmed, at least.  “What kinda books do you write?”  He paused, eyeing Seb with an almost playful grin.  “And what kind of mischief did the two of you get into...?”
Robert nodded, grinning at Rasputin’s response to the decor of Joseph’s house.  “Good to hear.  Place needs a complete overhaul.  That’ll go a long way in helping everyone move on...”  He stopped.  Normally he liked telling stories - seeing what people would believe - and what he could make them believe.  But this wasn’t his story to tell, and Seb deserved the opportunity to talk to his friend in his own time and his own way.  Robert eyed Sebastian apologetically for a moment, and then didn’t say anything more.
For a moment, he let the mention of music catch his interest.  A man willing to devote a whole room just to listening had to have at least a few decent tastes.  He might actually go to a listening party...if invited...for curiosity’s sake, if nothing else.
The talk of Lilja had him grinning.  The woman definitely used her origins to her advantage.  When they drank it was always a real contest because he was never quite sure which one of them would go down first - not something Robert could say about any of his other friends.  “Well, you’re welcome at Jim & Kim’s any time.  Best bar in town - ask anyone.  We can find out if your liver is anything like your sister’s.”  Robert chuckled and took a quick drink of his whiskey.  He kinda missed not having Mary there most nights...could be nice to have someone else there to talk to now and then...

The Most Bizarre Items in the Oscars’s $100,000 Gift Bag
With dwindling ratings, a diversity problem, questionable show-cutting decisions and the inability to find an unproblematic host, movie lovers and industry insiders have begun to question: do the Oscars even matter anymore? The nominees, I think, would say yes—and not simply because recognition from the Acamedy is a great professional honour and almost always promises a bump in pay.
If you don’t walk away from the evening with a tiny gold statue, you’ll at least walk away thousands of dollars richer. Not in cash or prestige, but in the greatest currency of all: free stuff. The “Everyone Wins at the Oscars” goodie bag—which has no real association to the awards show and is put together by marketing company Distinctive Assets—is gifted to all 25 actors and directors nominated for Acamedy Awards, and is valued at well over $100,000.
The gift bags are a hallmark of Oscars tradition, and are as ostentatious as the ceremony itself. Included are the VIP items you’d expect from such a sparkly swag bag: a celebrity chef-prepared poolside dinner for you and your friends, a weeklong beachfront vacation at a luxury villa and, of course, personal training sessions with an LA-based celebrity trainer. However, some of the swag listed is a little more, ugh, niche. In year’s past, nominees have taken home a Robotic Hair Transplant System (worth a cool $16,000), a PulseWave Vibrator (no better way to cope with an Oscars defeat than some tear-soaked orgasms) and a Cellulite Massage Mat (perfect for three-hour long award shows).
The 2019 bags serve equally intriguing gems. Here’s what Lady Gaga, Glenn Close, Bradley Cooper and their peers will have the opportunity to take home:

PETA Agent for Animals Spy Pens
“These stealthy recording devices fit discreetly into a shirt pocket and enable compassionate crew members, actors, or anyone else on a film or television set to document animal abuse and report it,” writes the animal rights non-profit. PETA gives a shoutout to the whistleblower from the A Dog’s Purpose film for recording on-set animal abuse, claiming that “whistleblowers are crucial to exposing cruelty to animals, and we think Hollywood’s A-listers are perfect for the role.”
Bradley Cooper already has an in with the organization: the actor/director won an ‘Oscat’ Award from PETA earlier this year for directing his own dog in A Star Is Born.

Personalized stained-glass portrait by artist John Thoman
It really is too bad that Timothée Chalamet was snubbed for his supporting role in Beautiful Boy. I love a good Chalamet in Art—and I can only imagine how stunning the Call Me By Your Name star would look with the sun shining through his forehead.

Private therapy sessions with leading phobia relief expert Kalliope Barlis
I’ve heard that Emma Stone, former star of the Spiderman franchise, has a phobia of spiders. Perhaps Barlis can help.

World’s first silent wearable breast pump by Elvie Pump
Retailing for $279.00 USD, the “Elvie Pump makes it possible to pump on your own terms – at home, at work or on-the-go.” I wonder what the all-male nominees in the Best Director category will do with the innovative device.

A glow-in-the-dark Mister Poop Emoji Plunger
“I am more than just a pretty face! 100% Fully Functional,” proclaims the product description. Maybe we’ll see one of these cuties pop-up in a future Architecture Digest celebrity home tour. I’ll be keeping an eye out!
There are 53 items in total in the 2019 “Everyone Wins” Nominee Gift Bag. Here are the remaining 47:
A luxury small-ship adventure to one of four options—Iceland, the Galapagos, the Amazon, Costa Rica and Panama—by International Expeditions (valued at $15,000 to $20,000 per person)
