hi your blog is a life saver. So. Question. I want to stab my protagonist in the waist/stomach area. I want her to be out for a few hours, but survive. No hospitals, but she has healing magic that will help a tiny bit (cuz she’s unconscious) and her gf has plant powers (can summon and control plants) that could be beneficial. Uh. Thoughts? But seriously though. I think fiction has done us a grave disservice by stabbing people in the abdomen and then doing nothing about it, only for them to be fine days later.

This is not the case in real life.

And I'm not mad at you, ilovb00kss0much, I just think it's something to talk about.

If you stab a character in the abdomen, and you want them to live, they need a surgery. Humans are not just blocks of flesh. There's organs in there. And when you break those organs you need to put them back together. Otherwise those organs won't work, or will spill stuff in places where stuff shouldn't spill.

Think about the stomach. It's full of acid. If you stab it, it will spill the acid and digest things around it. Not to mention the fact that the food the person eats will also spill out and not nourish them.

Think about the intestines, which are full of poop. If you stab them, and they spill that poop into the otherwise sterile sac around them, the person will die of infection if that is not repaired and cleaned out.

Think about the spleen or liver, which, when stabbed, will bleed a lot and kill the person without really fast surgical intervention and possibly a blood transfusion.

Think about the bladder, which, if stabbed, will spill the urine from the kidneys into the sterile sac. Which will eventually fill up with urine and kill the person.

Basically anywhere you stab, one of these things will happen. The only one that causes unconsciousness is the spleen or liver, and if you pass out from blood loss you really need a blood transfusion to live, which also involves a hospital.

So in your case you have to think- can your character's healing magic repair organs? Prevent infection? Replace blood? May it require something like a healing coma to do that work? If so, great! If not, think about a hospital.

Again, this is not me being snarky or rude and I hope it didn't come across that way. But I do feel the need to get across the fact- if you stab someone in the abdomen, they will die without a surgery.
