First of all, forgive me for bothering you with this question, but, yes… I'm new, and yes, I know, I came late to the party… but, I've to you a… I don't know if I've to call it stupid or weird, but, I've a stupid or werid question to you:

According to Google, Stan have cataracts, but… in the whole series, he looks like he can actually see… is this a joke of the writers of the series or what?

The fact that Stan has cataracts stems from a joke made in The Legend of the Gobblewonker (S1E2):

This was most likely put in as a throwaway joke by the writers, as it is never mentioned again for the rest of the series. There is also no visual indication of this, and in general, there are very few exceptions to the circle with black pupil eye style that's standard for the human characters (of course, the most prominent is when a character’s eyes turn yellow when possessed by Bill).

Even though this joke is the only canon indication of his cataracts, I have seen some pieces of fan media (mostly fics) that have mentioned it. If you plan on making any GF content, you can incorporate this if you feel it’s important to the story you’re trying to tell and/or fits your headcanons for Stan.

are there any stories/media that you think cover LGBT topics well? like accurately reflecting what it is, having the proper message about it, etc.

Oh gee. Ummmm…not really, unless you want to tilt your head and squint and count Dracula. But even with that, I don’t think Bram Stoker was intending to draw specific allusions to LGBTQ sexual desire. I think it was just “any bad perversion of purity.”

This is interesting: I think Downton Abbey unintentionally portrayed it well with their character Thomas in the first few seasons. Because he’s a selfish, self-preserving character. He puts what he wants in front of everything. And then he’s gay. So when you think of all sin as rooted in pride, wanting to be God, wanting to call the shots, and both sexual perversion AND trying to like, steal your coworker’s glory, as coming from that same place—then Thomas is a great example of that. He’s consistent with that, through and through.

Other than that, nothing springs readily to mind. I think there are a lot of stories that are anti-the-mindset-I-just-described-up-there. Which is great. Anti-you-get-to-be-god. Anti-getting-your-way-just-because-it’s-your-way.

Alice in Wonderland (Disney’s classic animated film) is the prime example of that. Weirdly, the first Tinker Bell movie. Mary Poppins. And then if you want to go this route, there are so many that are true-marriage and true-love, self-sacrificial-love, affirming. Too many to count. I think Beauty & the Beast is the best one, but also Twisters, Rebel Without a Cause (that’s not really the main point of that one but there are seeds in it) The Happiest Millionaire, Pride & Prejudice, Lord of the Rings, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, etc.

But in general, no, our world has always done one of two things:

Ignore the topic. Pretend it is not happening. (Like C.S. Lewis says in Surprised by Joy.)

Celebrate it as a good thing.

Very rarely is it the Not-Secret Third Thing, which is the correct thing: SHOW IT FOR WHAT IT IS. Not a super-sin, which is irredeemable and must be hushed up. Not a virtue. But a regular sin, as far as any sin can be regular—and totally overcomable and redeemable by the blood of Christ.

Fun fact. The startup studio I worked with started working on something that was kind of like this, so I think it can be done. (I don’t know if it’ll ever get finished at this point, but it’s possible to make a story like this)

Catherine cried out and dropped both the knife and the apple to cradle her hand.

"Have you cut yourself?" Henry asked in concern.

"Yes," Catherine huffed as though annoyed with herself, inspecting her finger. A thin line of blood was sliding down it.

Henry drew out his handkerchief to wipe up the blood and press it to the cut. Catherine hissed at the sting of pain.

"Would a kiss help it feel better, do you think?" Henry asked, and Catherine raised her face up, expecting him to kiss her mouth or cheek, but instead he uncovered her finger and placed his lips upon the cut, tinging them red with her blood.

He smiled up at her through his eyelashes, and licked his lips. "We can pretend I'm a vampire, darling."

Henry thought that kissing Catherine after drinking from her was almost the more pleasurable of the two activities. She always let out a surprised little squeak at the taste of her own blood on his lips, despite the fact that she'd experienced it at least a hundred times by now. How she could stay so sweet and innocent after all they had done together, all she had seen of him, was intoxicating. It made him smile against her lips, then kiss her deeper still, as if this time he might finally succeed in corrupting his dear little human's spirit. But he never did. And truthfully, he never wished to.

liz i’m on the fence about watching downton abbey, please help me decide and make an argument why i should or shouldn’t GO

well of course i'm going to say you SHOULD but a more nuanced answer would be:

wonderfully complex characters, women allowed to be totally awful human beings at times but still with rich emotions and inner lives, interesting interplay of upstairs/downstairs relations and topics although not explored very in-depth (in this house [downton abbey] we love the artistocracy..............), BEAUTIFUL costumes, pieces of dialogue and storylines that are so silly sometimes they turn around to brilliance, actually brilliant storylines and dialogue, my favourite 5 year span in history: world war one, a dog who although is decidely a background character is a very integral part of the family, and of course most importantly: an evil (sometimes) gay (canonically) footman who serves such extreme levels of cunt i fear there will never be another character like him (there won't be).

all this to say: please watch downton abbey and i hope you like thomas. he is evil but like. he deserves to be. sometimes.

I mean....he does it in the series. The Hissing as you mentioned but also perching on top of trees. Some things never change.

He doesn't try to bite his brothers anymore though. Play fighting is without teeth nowadays. Raph's orders. (and Donnie feels really really bad when he accidentally does it out of habit)

The characters do what they want when I draw them so who knows. We might see him a lil feral again
