Hello, mercury-falls!
First of all, forgive me for bothering you with this question, but, yes… I'm new, and yes, I know, I came late to the party… but, I've to you a… I don't know if I've to call it stupid or weird, but, I've a stupid or werid question to you:
According to Google, Stan have cataracts, but… in the whole series, he looks like he can actually see… is this a joke of the writers of the series or what?
Thank you so much for reading my stupid or weird ASK, and have a good Saturday/Sunday!
No worries at all! I hope you’ve been enjoying your time in the GF fandom! :)
The fact that Stan has cataracts stems from a joke made in The Legend of the Gobblewonker (S1E2):
This was most likely put in as a throwaway joke by the writers, as it is never mentioned again for the rest of the series. There is also no visual indication of this, and in general, there are very few exceptions to the circle with black pupil eye style that's standard for the human characters (of course, the most prominent is when a character’s eyes turn yellow when possessed by Bill).
Even though this joke is the only canon indication of his cataracts, I have seen some pieces of fan media (mostly fics) that have mentioned it. If you plan on making any GF content, you can incorporate this if you feel it’s important to the story you’re trying to tell and/or fits your headcanons for Stan.
Thanks so much for the ask, anon! I hope this helps 😊
#seriously don't worry about this ask being too “weird” 😂#I'm always more than happy to help new fans when I can 🥺#abbey answers#gravity falls#anon

Hunter on the beach. However you see that. 😉
Any kind of domestic Hunter?
Any kind of… uh… sexy Tech? 🤣

Okay first of all thank you so much 🥺 you're too sweet and this message made my day <3
I ended up doing two of the prompts and getting extremely carried away with the second, hope you like them!
Letterkenny references? In my art? It's more likely than you'd think.
And enjoy a tech!! Poor guy, Wrecker messed up the Marauder's console again, and fixing it is hard work. Also you cannot convince me that Tech is not the most heavily inked of the entire batch.

liz i’m on the fence about watching downton abbey, please help me decide and make an argument why i should or shouldn’t GO
well of course i'm going to say you SHOULD but a more nuanced answer would be:
wonderfully complex characters, women allowed to be totally awful human beings at times but still with rich emotions and inner lives, interesting interplay of upstairs/downstairs relations and topics although not explored very in-depth (in this house [downton abbey] we love the artistocracy..............), BEAUTIFUL costumes, pieces of dialogue and storylines that are so silly sometimes they turn around to brilliance, actually brilliant storylines and dialogue, my favourite 5 year span in history: world war one, a dog who although is decidely a background character is a very integral part of the family, and of course most importantly: an evil (sometimes) gay (canonically) footman who serves such extreme levels of cunt i fear there will never be another character like him (there won't be).
all this to say: please watch downton abbey and i hope you like thomas. he is evil but like. he deserves to be. sometimes.
hope this helps annie!!!!!!!!!!! tell me everything if u do decide to watch it.

Cora: It appears my brother Harold has lost my father's entire fortune. We need to go to America straight away.
Robert: Yes my love. But where will we stay now that Harold has lost everything and your mother is hosting a lesbian orgy in her Newport house?
Thomas: You could come stay at our place.
Thomas: [realizes people are staring at him] I mean. I could inquire Mr Dexter about his house. If he could spare a few rooms for you during your stay. From his house. In which I have one room, in which there is a bed I sleep in. My lord.

Austen asks! 4-24
I don't know if you intended this to be inclusive, but I'll answer them all anyway (skipping over the ones that have already been answered).
6. Favorite movie adaptation
The 1995 Sense and Sensibility. To me, it strikes a good balance between being a good adaptation and making the story accessible to audiences that haven't read the book, and it's one of the few that seems to understand Austen's humor and romance.
7. Favorite Austen couple
Anne and Wentworth. Their personalities balance each other perfectly.
8. Least favorite couple
Colonel Brandon and Marianne are so frustrating to me, mostly because of how Austen writes them. They fall victim to the Marian Halcombe Problem--if you spend the whole book showing a man and woman having tons of conversations and developing a good dynamic as equals, I'm not going to believe that he's in love with her sister.
9. Most hated foe of a heroine
Isabella Thorpe is a terrible person, and I can't think of any redeeming qualities or circumstances.
11. Least favorite book
I gained a better appreciation for Sense and Sensibility on my last reread, but it's still definitely Austen's weakest novel.
12. Least favorite Austen heroine
Marianne Dashwood is a realistic teenager, but not someone that I can admire or sympathize with too much.
14. Favorite love confession from the books
Can any Austen fan say anything other than The Letter in Persuasion?
16. Least favorite film adaptation
I hold a grudge against the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, because it did nothing to make me understand the appeal of Austen, and it's a horrible adaptation, but it has such a huge influence on fandom's interpretation of the novel.
Also, every once in a while, I remember the scene in the 2008 Sense and Sensibility where Brandon gives Willoughby a "stay away from my daughter" speech, and I shudder over how creepy it is.
17. Moment that made you sad/cry while reading
Basically any scene of Fanny Price's childhood.
18. Moment that made you smile/happy while reading
Henry Tilney's introduction scene in Northanger Abbey is just pure distilled joy.
19. Moment that made you laugh while reading
I'll never forget the time I laughed out loud in class while reading one of Miss Bates' speeches in Emma.
20. Moment that made you mad while reading
I don't know if I've ever been so mad for a heroine as I was during the scene where the neglected poor, orphaned, outsider Fanny watches everyone fawn over poor, orphaned outsider Mary Crawford.
22. Favorite Austen female casting decision
I love Tamsin Greig as Miss Bates in the 2009 Emma, because I did not imagine her talkativeness as stemming from anxiety, but it was fun to see her played that way and to experience a different interpretation that still felt valid.
I'm also going to take this opportunity to mention that I love Mrs. Jennings and Sir John Middleton in 1995's Sense and Sensibility. I just grin through every scene they're in, and I especially respect them after learning that they were the only cast members that Emma Thompson didn't have to write random extra dialogue for in crowd scenes, because they just naturally knew how to talk like Regency characters.
23. Favorite Austen male casting decision
I love Johnny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley in 2009 Emma. I don't know if he matches the character in the novel, but I love how he portrayed the dynamic with Emma.
Also, Hugh Laurie as Mr. Palmer in 1995's Sense and Sensibility is perfection. And Greg Wise as Willoughby is beautiful and charming enough to do his job of fooling you into thinking he could be the romantic lead before he proves to be an utter cad.
24. Favorite supporting character
Mrs. Jennings. Hands-down. So vulgar, nosey, and over-the-top, but beneath it all, so kind and friendly and helpful. I love her so much.

also a separate mary/matthew question: what are their love languages? both to give and receive
Thank you for the ask!! Sorry it took a while, I was trying to get it perfect :D
SO. Matthew is a person who’s affectionate in visible, transparent ways. We’ve seen that so many times on the show. He kisses Mary’s cheek in greeting and goodbye. He likes a fair bit of PDA (the cricket match kiss..... he could NOT get back to the game without giving her a smooch!) not too over the top, but the way he does it leaves no doubt of how madly in love he is. He also LOVES cuddling - I’m taking that “I’ve held you in my arms....” scene as proof that this is a man who adores cuddles and snuggles. And he comes up with the SWEETEST verbal professions of love, too. They make my heart melt every time. - “I could never be happy with anyone else as long as you walk the earth." “I do love you so terribly much. “I will love you till the last breath leaves my body.” “I didn’t think it was possible to love as much as I love you.” “I fall more in love with you every day that passes." He’s such an adorable romantic! And he really likes doing things for and with Mary.... getting her necklaces because he knows she’s fond of them, giving her belly rubs during her pregnancies, dancing with her..... oh, he loves her too much.
Mary, though.... she’s more complex, and her love language is a little more subtle. The thing with Mary is... she’s not a person who will gush about how much she loves you. It’s hard for her to express herself verbally. But when someone has deeply cemented themselves in her heart, they can never for a moment doubt how much she loves them. She uses her “I love you”s more sparingly. Actions speak louder than words where she’s concerned. Her beauty lies in the things she does for Matthew that demonstrate how much he means to her. When he’s working late in the library, she lays on the settee to keep him company. She distracts him when she knows he's thinking about the war (especially in early November when Remembrance Day draws nearer). She calms him down when he has nightmares, simply by holding him and kissing him and reassuring him that everything’s all right and he’s perfectly safe with her. She gives him endless massages with warm, scented oil when his back hurts him. When he’s ill, she devotes herself to him body and soul. She doesn’t leave Matthew for a moment, unless she really has to. She gives him a rub between the shoulders when he’s hunched from sitting at the desk too long (in 3x04). AND SHE LOVES KISSING HIM. Yes. She likes their snog sessions, kissing him and being kissed. Mary uses kisses to convince him that she’s on his side (“There.... will that convince you?”), she uses it to apologise after they’ve had a tiff, she uses it to reassure him and support him. And she plays with Matthew’s ears quite often - if you notice, during most of their kisses, she's touching his earlobes..... oh, and she likes running her fingers through his hair. HIS THICK SOFT BEAUTIFUL HAIR. Her touch, her loving gaze, her tiny caresses..... Matthew treasures her gestures of affection, because they perfectly complement his.

Does Donnie still go kinda animalistic at times? If he canonically hisses I imagine he does much more than that now that he’s been formerly infected.
Like does he crawl around sometimes or bite people or scratch at them or perch on top of ledges just out of familiarity like he did when he was infected?
The little drawing of him biting Leo for his phone was the funniest thing and I’m really just asking for more of that
More please.
Pretty please? With cherries and/or your favorite desert topping on top?
- 🌸 anon
I mean....he does it in the series. The Hissing as you mentioned but also perching on top of trees. Some things never change.
He doesn't try to bite his brothers anymore though. Play fighting is without teeth nowadays. Raph's orders. (and Donnie feels really really bad when he accidentally does it out of habit)
The characters do what they want when I draw them so who knows. We might see him a lil feral again

Downton Abbey, high/low stakes period drama series of all time. The only reason why I hesitate to rewatch it, is the knowledge that I’ll have to experience Sybil’s death all over again and I’ve ended up sobbing every single time I’ve watched it
right!! it seems like it should be a nice peaceful little comfort show and in some ways it is but then you get these moments of absolute heartbreak like sybil's death 💔💔

Sometimes a milf doesn’t have actual kids….milf is an energy, a way of life even
I get it now, in my speech you're saying she's mother.
That's true, Veronica is mother despite having no kids that I won't argue, I do wonder would that be compromised if she was younger.

thomas has to flirt with girls like daisy because that's expected behaviour for a straight man, and since he's very easily clockable he needs to be seen Behaving Straightly as being gay carried a prison sentence of two years hard labour. the fact makes creepy misogynistic william upset is a bonus tbh.
once he gets outed to the entire household, he never flirts with another girl again. there's no need. his cover is blown. he could flirt with ivy and piss off alfred (who he hates just as much as william) but he doesn't, because the pissing off was always just a bonus.
okay totally honest here i did not think about that at all, how thomas has to keep up appearances, great and valid point anon thanks for mentioning that. (i thought the entire household, or at least all of the staff bar daisy ofc, knew about him, i guess its been a while since ive had a full rewatch)
i am curious about the anti william sentiment im seeing though. maybe its just because my family really likes william and theyre the only ones i ever watched with so adopted their opinions. i will say, i did not enjoy daisy being pressured into starting a relationship with him then marrying him down the line, however i think that was more due to the other staff (mrs patmore) than william himself. yes he was very overt and pushy about his attraction to her but, i think ultimately (accompanied with, what i perceive as, her own want to be as gentle with him as possible and avoid hurting his feelings) its the pressure from other staff that kicks her over the edge to finally say yes maybe my entire view is distorted because its been ages since ive had a rewatch fully and in order. usually i rewatch the first three or so episodes of season 1 and then skip to post matthew death.
thanks for sending that in!

‘I’m not unhappy. I’m just not quite ready to be happy.’ - @91cmspoilers
Downton Abbey Season 4 Sentence Starters - No Longer Accepting!
She hadn't intended on a philosophical conversation. Not so soon after Miss Yukizome had finished her lesson for Class 77-B that day, at least. Homeroom sessions tended to give Sonia the most to think about: while private tutoring sessions in her designated laboratory were likely deemed the most useful, it was the common classroom experience that both simultaneously made her head swim and heart full. It felt like a dream most of the time, a group of friends so entirely unconcerned with what she was. But there were so many regular, everyday things she needed explained, it seemed never-ending, a normal education.
And she thrived on it, all of it. Until, after stopping briefly at the campus vending machine, she noticed a boy with long hair and a suit she didn't recognize in the Main Campus courtyard. It didn't match the sort of uniform she was accustomed to at Hope's Peak Academy. She surmised he must have been a part of another class, or he would've been shooed away by the staff. Still, she hadn't hesitated to approach him: to Sonia, he appeared to be rather down about something and it couldn't hurt to ask if he was all right. Sometimes, she thought, that was just what someone needed: not a tangible thing, but to be assured that someone noticed them in times of trouble.
"You are not ready to be happy?" She repeated, blonde eyebrows raised in confusion. It was a perplexing situation: the only way she could comprehend it was if the boy was suffering from a mental or emotional malaise. Problems best sorted by therapists. There was no shame in that, she visited one herself. "Oh my, I am sorry about that. That seems quite distressing. But, if you do not mind the suggestion of a stranger, I think choosing to be happy is one of the most wonderful gifts you can give yourself. I think it is easier to do so when you have family and friends whom you love in your life, and you wish to do your best by them."
Maybe that was overstepping the mark. Sonia wasn't sure, but if she were in his shoes, that would be what would realign her mind into a more positive outlook. Barring that, well, she had another idea: two others, actually. "But if it is a challenge right now to remember those who love you, then I recommend these," She smiled, rifling through her school bag before she retrieved the items she was looking for: a bar of Novosonian chocolate and a bottle of black milk tea, still chilled from the vending machine she'd just bought it from. She held both out to him, giving him both her snacks and a smile. "Chocolate and tea. They help me when I am feeling sad, and serve as excellent after school snacks. I think you are in greater need of them than me."
