As a security guard, what would you do if you saw someone shoplifting baby formula?

Oof.

Truthfully, if a company is willing to hire uniformed security, it’s not LPO, it’s visible presence. If they want visible presence, they already KNOW people are stealing, they already have cameras, and if *I* see them, the cameras saw them too- shit like that goes missing, someone will investigate, someone will get caught. Best thing is to let them know and tell them where they can get it for free, ‘cause it ain’t a crime till they leave the building.

That said, if I’m on mall duty, theft is none of my business and I never really see it happening anyways. A visible uniform scares a lot off, even if I have no real authority. I’m lucky enough that in my area we have a lot of resources for people desperate for baby supplies though, so I WOULD realistically be able to tell them where to get help above the board.

But also, with the recent baby formula shortages, there’s been a HUGE uptick in people stealing massive amounts of formula to sell off outside the country. And I don’t mean donate, I mean SELL, at a HUGE markup. Which is. A whole different disgusting issue. So like… if they’re loading up dozens of boxes with a ride waiting out front? Yeah, fuck those guys.

If you’re in a position where someone in a uniform can see you, you’ve already fucked up. You picked the wrong location. You’re probably already on camera, the manager probably saw you already, and there’s probably an LPO upstairs writing down your license plate. It was too late for you five minutes ago. Cut your losses, empty your bag, walk away.
