Fooling Around
| From Request Number 1.
Okoye x Female Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You're a very unserious Dora Milaje when Okoye's around. Or maybe you're just unserious in general. Author's Note: Just a little fluff to keep you occupied. Word Count: 1.7k Short Fluff Warnings: None
Tumblr media
A cool breeze made its way through the palace as you roamed through one of its secluded passages. You kept close to yourself, trying to keep the little heat that your body was producing to yourself.
In all your years as a Dora Milaje, seeing all of the technological advances that the palace had gotten, the temperature control of the building in winter was below average.
Though you were often cold in any open place, you were sure that the palace was the problem here, not you. Every year it was the same thing, and you couldn’t for the life of you find a decent spot to stand without freezing.
Your wife, Okoye, claimed that it was just your personal problem. That everyone else was completely fine in the cold seasons.
“Y/n, don’t” she'd say when she’d see you trying to take one of your blankets with you to work.
Though she’d stop you everytime she found you sneaking one, you still attempted to every now and then, wanting to stir up a bit of trouble. While also needing to stay warm.
“It’s the uniform.” you always tried to reason. “It’s not good at trapping heat. If you don’t want me to take the blanket, then get someone to update the uniform.”
She still refused to believe you.
It didn’t stop you from taking your blanket with you, but it did make you better at hiding it.
When you were alone guarding a section of the palace by yourself, you often wrapped yourself up and stood comfortably waiting until you heard footsteps approaching you. Then you’d throw it off to the side.
It often led you to lose a lot of blankets, but you felt like it was well worth it.
You did the same now, the blanket you had on soothing and sending you off into a relaxed state for the day.
Maybe a bit too relaxed.
You were so distracted by the warmth, that before you knew it, footsteps were close and you were rushing to strip yourself of the covering.
“Y/n?” you heard Okoye’s voice behind you as you threw the blanket to the side, fixing your uniform.
“Yes.” you turned around to see her looking at the thrown object.
She rolled her eyes, smiling at you for a brief moment before becoming serious again.
“I need you to come help me with training today.”
You eyed her in question, “Training? Isn’t that for the new recruits today?”
You got a sigh in return. “Yes. Ayo’s caught something and Aneka stayed home to take care of her so you’re the last person available right now.” she explained.
You grinned at her, “Okoye, if I’m your last option you’re better off doing it alone.” you laughed.
“That’s what I said.”
“Hey!”
“I’m kidding.” she poked fun at you. Then she returned to her serious face, “I need you, my love. You’re a people’s person, and in case you haven’t noticed; I am not. You can help calm the girls’ nerves.”
You thought about it. Seeing as you weren’t busy, it would keep you occupied. But you weren’t really the trainer type when it came to the Dora. You were more of the comedic relief that could fight when needed.
It was, however, a lot warmer in the training facilities. You were already beginning to freeze again from the lack of your beloved cloak. What was the harm in being a substitute trainer for the day.
“Okay. I’ll do it.” you said, starting to walk away from your previous spot.
“It wasn’t really an optional choice,” Okoye whispered to herself. She looked down at the blanket you’d so terribly tried to hide.
Shaking her head, she picked it up, following you out of the palace.
Tumblr media
“Y/n. Before we go in there. You have to promise to be serious about this.”
You leaned against Okoye as you walked, knowingly smiling at the woman.
“Darling, when have I ever not been serious? “ you asked.
She pushed your face away, “Almost every day since I’ve known you.”
You pretended to gasp, placing your hand on your chest.
“Ouch. That one hurt, my love. That one hurt more than any bullet or sword possibly ever could.”
“It’s not like I’m lying. Just please don’t play one of your tricks. I need the girls to feel comfortable, not more nervous.”
You got to the main building, looking at her.
As you entered, you blew her a kiss, “I will try my best. But I cannot make any promises.”
When you got inside, a fair amount of young girls stood in there, standing up straight, ready for instruction.
‘I see we’ve entered what others would call hell.’ you thought. Okoye cleared her throat loudly, eyeing you down from the middle of the room.
“Oh, sorry. Did I say that out loud?” you said, covering your mouth.
A few snickers came from all over the room.
Your seriousness had barely lasted a few seconds.
“Ehm, now as I was saying. You’ll be split into groups for today and Y/n and I will evaluate you group by group.”
Okoye explained the training rules more, while you  stared out into the room, looking at all of the recruits.
Most of them were of the same age that you had been when you joined. Probably the youngest group of recruits in the past 5 years.
To you they still looked like babies. Not young women prepared to become warriors.
There was a determination in them, though. One that resembled Okoye’s more than anything.
As you observed the skills that they had learnt in the previous training sessions, you felt a rush of pride come over you.
They would be good. Although they were a bit too serious for your taste.
“That was good.” you said to a girl who was working on her spear handling.
“Your technique is just like the General’s.” you said.
The girls immediately became reserved, shaking her head. “I’m nothing like the General. She’s far too good.”
“That is true.” you smiled at the girl. “But you’re not far off. Work like that more often and you’ll be competing with her in no time.”
“Thank you.” she whispered.
“In fact, I’m going to go tell her about you, um…”
“Hawele.”
You nodded at her, “I’ll be right back.”
“Wait-” Hawele tried to stop you, seeing as you still had the rest of the group to observe.
She waited with her group of 4 other girls, as they all watched you approach Okoye.
They stared in complete awe at the ease that you exuded when you talked to the General. You smiled, laughed, and even dared to touch her arm while you spoke to her.
It was an amazing sight to see.
When you returned, half of them still looked at you like they’d seen a ghost.
“What’s wrong?” you asked, looking around to find out what was bothering them.
“How do you do that?” Hawele asked.
“Do what?”
Another girl pointed to Okoye. “How do you talk to her so easily?”
“Oh, Okoye? What are you talking about? Okoye’s the easiest person to talk to.”
They shook their heads in unison.
“What? You don’t believe me?” you asked. You were all looking at the General now.
“Oh come on. She’s harmless.”
You looked around for an example of how to show them. Then you saw the shimmer of a spear next to the group that she was helping train.
It was nearby but not directly in her sight.
You started to leave the group again, “Watch.”
They all watched as you snuck behind Okoye, making your way to the back of her group. She was too occupied with her demonstration to see you getting on the ground and swiping her spear.
It was a fast movement, barely noticeable to anyone but your girls that stood with their mouths hanging open. You casually walked back to them, hiding the spear in the place where yours usually stood.
The girls looked both impressed and mortified.
“Go put it back!” one whispered to you.
“She’s gonna find you.” another went.
More whispers of concern ran through the group, the breathing getting heavy.
Okoye definitely took notice of that, taking a few glances at you.
Some girls even tried to physically push you to the direction of Okoye’s group, though it was a hopeless attempt.
“Stop, you're making a scene. I’m just trying to show you something.” You tried your best not to laugh at the clear expressions of distress.
You waved at them to settle down, seeing Okoye reach for her spear.
Not finding it where it last was, she looked around checking the surrounding area. Concern washed over her, and though not many would immediately notice, she was becoming slightly frantic.
She went on like that for only a few minutes, before she made eye contact with you.
When she did, and you made a point of looking away, she knew that you were the culprit.
She approached your group, who instinctively backed themselves behind you for protection.
“General Okoye.” you said with every bit of charm you could muster.
The girls backed away again as Okoye went for your arm.
Quickly she retrieved her spear, seeing the scared girls behind you.
For a brief moment she melted at the sight of them using you as a shield.
“Girls, I see you’ve all gotten acquainted with our best comedian Dora Milaje. Also known as my wife.”
“Wife?!” one girl said.
“That's me.” you smiled pointing to yourself, “ and I’m truly a blessing.”
“That’s one way to put it.” Okoye said. “I think that’s enough for the day, my love. You can go back to your station now.”
You sighed, pretending to be devastated.
“That’s too bad. Can I get my blanket back?”
Okoye rolled her eyes. Going to find the blanket, and coming back to hand it to you.
As you made your way to the door, you were happy to see that the girls were all smiles looking at the exchange.
“See, She’s very easy-going.”
“Out, Y/n!”
And you made your  way out of the room quickly.

Collide-Justin Herbert-24
Tumblr media
A/N: as usual I do not know anyone or anyone affiliated with the Los Angeles Chargers. This is just fanfiction purposes only.
This was one of the best Holiday seasons in a long time.
She felt at ease, she was comfortable with her boyfriend's family. There was no big crowd of people, No kids screaming, no one asking for connections, or people asking about a boyfriend, jokes about her appearance. Making comments about how much money she had. Being forced to talk to mom and dads work friends and social circle.
She noticed again that she was the first one up. Well Justin was gone to the facilities for an early practice and lifting. She laid for a bit and checked her phone to answer some business emails and texts from her manager and agent. It was last minute to confirm all her stuff was set for when she arrived on the Dune 2 set.
Sara was scratching behind Nova’s ear when there was a knock on the door. She heard Isabell's voice "can I come in?"
She looked down to make sure everything was in place. "Yeah, it's open!" Isabell came in and sat on the bed. "How was everything last night?"
Sara smiled. "Good, I love the Herbert's, they are just so nice." Isabebell smiled. "Yes, I remembered being terrified meeting them for the first time. But Holly and Mark are so welcoming, and Patrick was there for comedic relief." The girls laughed at that. "I came here to apologize as well." Sara was confused. "Why?"
"Well I didn't mean to act all fangirl over you. I'm sure it's annoying to have people fawn over you all the time." Sara smiled. "Trust me it's not always like that. I've had people insult me to my face and try to tear me down." Isabelle shook her head. "The nerve of some people."
They spoke for a little bit. She had a lot in common with the Brazilian girl, they came from decent sized families, being successful was important, hence why Isabelle was in dental school. They spoke on the pressures they faced and Sara really felt like she had a good friend. Her and Carly were amazing women, along with the rest of the family. Eventually Holly interrupted and announced she was making breakfast. The girls joined the gang in the living room. Once breakfast was consumed and cleaned up, it was another lazy day. The stores were insane, and she just wanted to relax. They were all getting ready for a big early Holiday dinner. Throughout the day she was texting Justin as well as her siblings, who were upset that she was missing Christmas with them as well as the kids were upset their favorite Aunt Sara wasn't there.
—--------------------------------------------------------------
So far Christmas was a success. Justin had presented his o-line with extravagant gift packages courtesy of Sara's suggestion. Despite the tension and stress of the team trying to clinch a playoff spot. All eyes were going to be on the games on Christmas Eve.
It was weird, the past Christmases were all wrapped up in football. That was all he cared about. Now here he was wanting nothing more than to get home to his family and Sara. It was a drastic change from last year.
"So, did you and Sara exchange gifts yet?" Mike asked as he and Justin finished up their workout. He smiled, a goofy smile that only his teammate and one of his closest friends knew. "You son of a bitch."
Justin blushed. "Shut up." Mike laughed and clapped him on the back. "Ayo man I'm happy for you. I still don't know how you bagged her. Way too good for you." Justin smiled, and went back to his locker to get a small wrapped gift. He handed it to Mike. "Thank you. For forcing me to go to Joe’s wedding. Even though I wanted to kill you at the time."
Mike smiled and took the package, tearing the wrapping paper. He laughed when he revealed the video game he wanted for months "how did you get a hold of this?"
"Sara knows a guy at the company." Justin smiled when Sara told him that she could get her hands on a copy of the most sought out video game. "Bro, thank you so much. I'm glad you found happiness, even though I will continue to say she is too cool for you."
Justin laughed. "I'm a lucky man. Mike, I'm a very lucky man." He saw Joey look at him from the corner of his eye.
Things had been awkward for the once close teammates. While Justin understood that the beginning of his relationship was incredibly rocky due to him being an ass, he was more upset that Bosa was entertaining Sara. Now granted there were teammates who shared hookups and casual dates he wasn't that type of person. Neither was Joey or so he thought. Justin thought about the first time Mike alerted him that his teammate was trying to steal his girl.
Things seemed to calm down once Joey had taken more of an interest in Sara's friend, despite him dating some other girl. It was stupid for him to get mad, and did he have a right? He thought about Taylor, and how he hadn't told Sara the truth about her, but then again it was likely that she didn't even know about the blonde reporter. Nothing did happen between them while he and Sara were together
Well, they did kiss, but technically she forced herself on him and he wasn't in a relationship yet, so it didn't really matter. However Justin knew that if that had happened between her and Joey he'd be pissed. But who was to say she was one hundred percent innocent?
He was so wrapped up in his thoughts that he didn't notice Bosa make his way over to his locker and was now calling his name. "Herb!" Justin snapped out of his daze. "Huh?"
"You okay? You look like you want to kill me." Justin shook his head. "Nah dude I just spaced out" Bosa didn't buy it. "Uh huh sure." As he was about to walk away Justin called out. "Hey Joey can you come into the video room with me for a second?"
Joey nodded confused, he followed the younger man into the room where Justin closed the door behind him. "Hey man what's this all about-"
"Do you like Sara?" Justin blurted it out. He didn't know what came over him. He needed reassurance maybe. He was never to feel insecure in a relationship, maybe because he had never allowed himself to fall deeply in love like he is now. Joey looked at him. "Look man I know I crossed the line with the flirting, but I didn't know you were serious about her like that. I mean she is gorgeous inside and out, and many guys want her-"
Justin cut him off. "Get to the point bro" Joey laughed. "You are serious about her so I backed off. She's a cool friend to have and that's how I see her. I'm more interested in her friend."
"I thought you were seeing Kailey." He shook his head. "Ended it. Was going too fast. Listen, you and Sara are good for each other. Just don't fuck it up." Justin nodded. He was a little hurt that many of his friends and family seemed to think he would ruin a good thing, but then again he didn't have the best track record with relationships. "I have to ask something though." Joey was confused, wondering what else they had to talk about. "What's the deal with you and Sara’s friend?"
The big man groaned. "We hooked up a hit between relationships in high-school. In college, she went off to New York to do her modeling shit and that was it." Joey looked away and Justin couldn't help but pry. "Dude was she the one that got away?" Joey turned back towards his teammate. "Look man it's in the past, she would never go for a guy like me her parents even said that."
Justin nodded, not wanting to press the issue further. It seemed like it was a sore subject, plus it was obvious his teammate was still hung up on her. He felt bad for his teammate, but it gave him some reassurance that he didn't have to worry.
—--------------------------------------------------------
The Chargers were close. So close to a postseason spot. Justin and his team watched the Bengals beat the Patriots, then on Thursday the Jets lost. They just needed the Raiders to lose, and then to pull off a win in Indianapolis to get in. Justin was getting excited, a reporter mentioned this time last year and how desperate they were. But this wasn't last year, and despite all the adversity, they were sure to beat the Colts.
Once they wrapped up he raced home to get to Sara and his family. He felt bad that they would all be leaving Christmas day, and she would be by himself. She reassured him that she would have Nova to keep her company.
He opened the door to home and smiled at the sight. Sara and Mitch were talking and laughing as she was helping Holly in the kitchen. His dad and Patrick were talking with Isabel in the living room, the house spelled like a home cooked meal. His stomach growled at the smell of ham. He made his presence known and was greeted by his family, Sara coming up to him with a kiss. "Hmm, you smell really good." He mumbled, breathing in her smell he noticed her hair was wet fresh out of the shower. "You could have waited for me, we could have showered together and saved water."
She laughed. "Yeah when have we e just ever showered together?" He laughed "good point"
They looked over to see Holly take the ham out of the oven. Justin's stomach growled and Sara laughed. "Come on, set your stuff down and let's eat." They headed over to the kitchen where everyone began digging in. They had plenty of food. There was ham, then vegetables, and a couple salads. Sara made the mac n cheese, which was a hit. She did take a couple quick videos of the food just for tiktok. They dug in and overate. Everyone complimented Holly, Sara, and Isabel on how good the food was. Sometime during the dinner, Sara's phone buzzed on the table. Looking at it, she turned it off. Justin looked at her, she frowned when her phone began buzzing again. "Babe who is it?"
She looked up. "It's my mom, probably facetiming me to wish me a merry Christmas."
"Oh my god, answer it! Don't feel disconnected from your family just because you're with us!" Mitch obviously didn't know Sara's family dynamic. Taking a deep breath she answered the call and saw her mother's face. "Hi mom."
"Hello sweetie. Please don't slouch like that. It's rude and I can see your double chin." Eyebrows shot up at the table and she grimaced. Sitting up straight, she said "thanks for the reminder mom"
"Merry Christmas dear! I wish you were with us! Where are you? It doesn't look like your house."
She had to think of another lie. "Oh well I'm at a mutual friends house." Eyes shot up again. "Oh well that's nice sweetie. What was so important for work that you couldn't come home?"
Sara rolled her eyes. "Well I have the backup vocals I'm recording for the bands album you know that."
"Well you are just like your father." She cringed hearing about her dad. "Speaking of he is really sorry about Aunt Willa's comments on Thanksgiving, but you know Aunt Willa-"
"Mom I have to go. Did the kids get all of their gifts?"
Cathy sighed. "Yes they did. Your sisters will call you tomorrow when they open them"
They exchanged 'love yous' and hung up. When she set her phone down on the table she looked up. It was silent for a bit. Until Mark spoke up. "Your mom reminds me a bit of mine. Always ranting about stuff. She's a bit high strung?"
Sara laughed. "Oh yeah she's very appearance based. They had their annual Christmas eve party at the local banquet hall. Three hundred people." Mark's eyes widened. "Wow," Sara laughed. "Yeah they are well known around the neighborhood and all of their friends and dads business associates."
Holly stabbed her food. "I can't even imagine." The group continued eating.
Once they finished and they all cleaned up and recovered from stuffing their faces they all decided to exchange gifts. Sara got a bunch of Starbucks gift cards (which Sara enjoyed) she got Isabel and Holly skincare and spa items. She got Mitch medical books, and Patrick got some football merchandise. She spoiled Justin with a new outfit and books to read on the plane and the bus. Mark laughed when Sara made Justin unwrap Nova’s gift. He laughed at the giant cat tower that she was scratching at. When he unboxed it, she immediately jumped on it. "I can't believe you got my cat Christmas gifts" He teased as he opened a Herbert cat jersey. "Oh my god!"
Mitch rolled his eyes. "Don't act like you haven't bought some gifts for Dylan." Sara laughed as Justin was called out by his brother. The gift giving was successful, Patrick was touched when Sara gave him an envelope to hand to Carly when he saw her
The rest of the night was filled with laughter and for the first time. Sara felt truly at peace.
—-------------------------------------------------------------
"Thank you so much for everything, your family is wonderful. Sara flopped on the bed after her routine was done. In the connecting bathroom Justin was rinsing with mouthwash before coming back into the room. "Why are you thanking me? We are together. My family is your family." She turned her head towards him and smiled. She was wearing an Oregon hoodie, courtesy of her boyfriend's Christmas gift to her, along with UGG slippers and a Burberry handbag that his family was surprised that he spent that much money on. She was surprised that he paid attention to her style.
He got into bed and kissed her quickly. "I have one more gift for you."
"Hmm. Is it your ass in your football pants?" He snorted as he got off the bed and went to his drawer. "Your mind is always in the gutter." She laughed and swatted at his ass. He playfully glared at her. "Keep it up and I'm tying you to this bed, and you can't leave."
"That isn't a punishment babe." He rolled his eyes. He retrieved the small, perfectly wrapped box and sat on the bed next to her. "I wanted to give this to you privately."
She hummed and then delicately removed the bow. Once removed and unwrapped. She took off the lid off the velvet box to reveal an emerald diamond ring, in the shape of the Oregon University logo. The ring was set in platinum. It was gorgeous, and it was her, and part of him. "It's beautiful." She whispered. Taking it out, she slipped it on her right hand ring finger. It was a perfect fit. "How did you know-"
"While you were away, you left a ring on my nightstand, and I gave it to my manager to get it sized." He ran his hand through his hair. "I had it engraved on the inside." She took it off to inspect the inside and sure enough, it had the number '10' with a date 'November 2022' she looked up at him questioningly. "It's the month I took you to Oregon." He smiled and her heart swelled. Slipping the ring back on, she launched herself into his arms. Peppering his face with tons of kisses he laughed. "Babe-"
"I love it so much. I love you so much!" They fell backwards on the bed. As much as they wanted to make love, she held off. "You need to focus on getting a playoff spot. I got the fancy champagne glasses and the best champagne. All ready for us to celebrate."
He smiled. "First of all, nothing is certain yet, also my family is heading home right after the game. So if we did make it, it would be just us."
"So I can blow you in the living room?" His cheeks turned pink. "Dirty girl." She laughed and pulled him in for a kiss. They had to get to bed if she wanted to wake up early enough to say goodbye to his family.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
"The Chargers have punched a ticket to the Playoffs!" The television announcer loudly as she had the television loud in the living room. Sara, in her navy Herbert jersey screamed as she picked up Nova, clad in her matching jersey and danced around the house. The cat was used to it by now, as it also meant she got a treat.
She got messages from Joe, Patrick and Mark and she was so overwhelmed with joy. She thought about last season and the disappointment and all of the doubts. Though she didn't know Justin last year, she could only imagine the pain he went through.
She looked down at her ring on her right hand. She smiled as the emeralds of the 'O' sparkled in the light. It was the most meaningful gift she had ever received. If you had asked her about the hot, freakishly tall guy at her friend's wedding in July, she would probably say he was fine for a night, maybe two, but she was in no way looking for anything long term. But her stupid ass heart had to chicken out and fall for the boy that was the total opposite of her. While he was a total idiot at the beginning, he was the best thing that had ever happened to her.
There was one thing nagging on her mind though, and that was the big issue regarding the public. It was no secret that people were nosy, and a big celeb like her, anyone would kill to tell a big secret like this. Truth be told she wanted people to know she was in a relationship. It didn't have to be constantly broadcasted or constant photos everywhere. Private not secret, like tons of celebrity relationships. Based on experience, Justin didn't want anyone to know about them. Then again, it seemed he was bothered by the fact that her family didn't know. It was all confusing, but they needed to have a serious talk before she left.
They said they would have a take it by day policy, but this is so much more than that. It meant goodbye to life as they knew it, every move would be watched and scrutinized by both of their fans. Rumors would be flying, the press would be eager to know about Justin's entire life, and they would be willing to pay any former friends, teammates and lovers to come forward and tell any embarrassing, juicy moments. People would vilify him, come after her. It'd be shiny and new gossip that would have everyone talking until something new came up, whenever and whatever that'd be.
It wasn't going to be tonight, but it would have to be soon since it was t minus eleven days. Her team had messaged her with all of the arrangements and the script was ready to go. She'd gone over it a bit before the game although she already knew her lines.
Deciding to push her worries out of her head for tonight. She went to get the cold champagne bottle out of the fridge to put on ice, as well as grabbing the chocolate covered strawberries and turtle cookies. She also made Buffalo chicken mac n cheese. It was a hit with Justin and his family, the way she made it was an old fashioned family recipe. As she got everything ready and set up the time had passed. It was late, and she kept checking the time, eager for him to return home and celebrate with her.
Eventually she heard the garage door open and Nova finally descended from her huge cat tree to greet her owner at the door. She was still clad in her dad's jersey, finally getting used to it. She heard Justin's voice behind the corner. " I can't believe you didn't scratch the crazy lady's eyes out." Sara rolled her eyes. Her boyfriend continued. "Isn't she the craziest girl you've ever known? I mean she bought you clothes! I think I'm gonna have to admit he-"
"Justin Patrick Herbert, if don't shut the fuck up I'm fighting you." He laughed as he rounded the corner. "Is that a threat or a promise?" She rolled her eyes. "And My minds in the gutter." He kissed her and wrapped his arms around her. "You rubbed off on me."
"Uh huh" She pulled away to grab the champagne. She handed it to him. "I'm going to let you do the honors, Mr. Playoffs." He blushed. "Well we actually have to win a game." She arched her eyebrow. "Little victories Herb, little victories." He smiled and uncorked the bottle, a pop sound throughout the house. Pouring into the glasses they clinked them together and drowned the bubbly drink. Taking a strawberry, he told Sara. "Wednesday I'm going to San Diego to watch Patrick in the Holidays bowl." She nodded, remembering his brother talking about the game and the nerves. "I wish you could go with me," He muttered.
Again she raised a dark eyebrow. "That is not the place to debut a relationship. It's your brothers night, I couldn't do that to him."
It was his turn to raise an eyebrow. "Not the place to debut a relationship?" His conversation with David flashed in his mind. She began to load their plates with snacks. "Not that our relationship is some press release. But it's going to be big news, and once it's out there there's no going back. We need to discuss this actually." It was not really the time, but they were quickly running out of it, and since he brought it up. "I have no intention of saying I'm in a relationship, but the more time we spend together. Its going to be brought up eventually."
"How so? If we don't say anything or just continue our routine we should be fine." She shook her head. "It doesn't work that way. With the press coming up for my movies next year. Some of the studio execs would want me to be in a PR relationship." He paused mid bite. "Like they could force you into it?"
She sighed. "Not force, but they would expect us to go on pap walks and do couple things. My guess is probably with Timothee, since Dune is being filmed. I would have to tell them no, and they would know things. Unfortunately that means they would want to discover who I'm with just to drum up any interest in the movie. It's all a business."
She poured another glass of champagne before speaking. "I try my damn hardest to stay out of that side. There is no avoiding it sometimes though."
He sat back in his chair. "So what do we do?"
"We could continue with our routines, maybe slowly start to go out to lowkey public spots and see what happens. Sorta controls the narrative."
"I'm going to be honest. I'm not too comfortable with it at all." Sara nodded. She thought about his past relationship with Hannah, and how quickly he ended it when she wanted to launch their relationship. She wanted to ask him about it so bad.
"Let's just try our hardest to stay out of the public eye. I mean if it happens we don't speak on it. Maybe get advice on what to do from your team and ours." Justin shrugged. "We can go more in depth when you get back. But for now let's just enjoy us and take it day by day." She rounded the counter and embraced him. "I like the sound of that." He kissed the top of her head. "I'm so proud of you baby." She didn't need to look at him as she knew his face was pink. "Seriously, you took this team to their first playoff berth since 2018, you made people excited to root for the Chargers again. People love you, and believe in you."
"It's not just me, we have a great team, a great coaching staff." She rolled her eyes. "I mean yeah but I'm not fucking the entire Chargers organization. I mean If you want me too-" He squeezed her ass hard and she laughed. "But seriously baby, you are the heart and soul of this team. You've come so far." She felt him plant a kiss on her neck. Pulling away, she got down on her knees. "Oh fuck" he whispered as she began to press soft kisses on his forming bulge. She teased him for a bit before he finally spoke. "Please stop." She giggled. "You're right, you've been a good boy." He lifted himself so she could slide down his sweats, along with his underwear. His dick stood up at attention and she grabbed it, twisting her wrist and getting him wet with his precum. She took his head in his mouth and sucked it, coming off with a wet pop. She licked him like a lollipop, which she could tell he enjoyed, but also was irritated at the same time. Finally she decided she had enough teasing and took him fully. Slowly, she felt him slide to the back of her throat.
"Oh god." He threw his head back and his hands became tangled in her hair. He began thrusting and he was now fucking her face. Sara was choking down his cocktail, and she loved it. She put her hands on his thighs, and after a while he moaned and released in her mouth and she swallowed. Coming off his dick she wiped her mouth and smiled, tears in her eyes and in a state of bliss. He pulled her up to steal a kiss. She moaned as his hands grabbed her by the ass and carried her to the bedroom. He laid her on his head and lifted up her nightie to reveal she went pantyless.
"God you're gorgeous" He breathed, before diving in to taste her. The second his tongue hit her she arched her back. "Oh my god." He hit all the right spots and her hands went through his long hair. "Oh Justin" she moaned. She hit her release quickly and they both collapsed on the bed to catch their breath. After a minute she remembered something "I need to clean the kitchen." She got up but he snaked his arm around her midsection and pulled her down. "Leave it." He mumbled.
"You? Want me to leave a mess? Who are you and what have you done to Justin Herbert?" This was unlike him. She remembered making fun of him when he threw his dirty clothes in the hamper after she tore them off after sex. She respected it, but did it really have to be right after? He never lived that down.
"I just wanna lay with you." He snuggled closer. She slid out from under his arm. "Well normally I would, but there is food I have to put away. You stay here and rest, you've earned it baby." She kissed his cheek and headed to the kitchen. He laid there for a couple minutes as he tried to fall asleep to the sounds of Sara putting everything away. He couldn't do it, he needed his girl with him. Justin got up and he approached her behind while she was at the sink. He once again snaked his arms around her. "You just couldn't wait could you?" "No" He mumbled. She went to scrub one of the plates but he stopped her. "Leave it and come back to bed." Sara let herself be dragged by him (not that she had a choice)
They settled back into bed and Sara realized how tired she was, and she fell asleep in Justin's arms.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, YOURE HOLIDAY BOWL CHAMPIONS, THE OREGON DUCKS!"
Justin was on the sidelines in the game. Beaming like a proud brother. Patrick played a phenomenal game, in front of the Chargers GM no less. He knew his brother wanted to go to the NFL and this was a way to do it. It had been a nail biter up until the last minutes.
He hugged every player, posed for pictures, and gave Patrick the biggest hug of them all. "I'm so proud of you bro." He yelled in the young ones ear." Patrick laughed. "Thanks bro, couldn't have done it without you."
They spoke to several other Oregon players before they got off the field. Patrick and Justin wanted to go to dinner, but with the win no doubt it would be a long celebration in the locker room. Knowing that Patrick would come down for the first playoff game, he left the celebration a little early, he had a flight to catch to Los Angeles.
He felt his phone buzz in his pocket and he opened it to Sara's name.
Congrats to Patrick. All those big guys jumping on you makes me nervous. Miss you 😘
He smiled, before going up to Patrick to show him the message. "I have to text her." Patrick smiled. "I also got her Christmas gift. She's too cool for you."
Justin smiled. "I know."
"Don't fuck it up."
—--------------------------------------------------------
New Year's eve.
Justin and Sara were once again at Bosa's house. Along with some of the Players and their wives. They had been given a heads up by their husband's about the famous guests. So far all of them gave a warm welcome to Sara, teaching her the ropes about being a WAG since she was officially in the club. They also knew how important it was to keep a secret.
Sara had been talking to Breanna Norton and Ekeler's girlfriend Lauren. She really liked them, while they asked the usual questions about fame and famous people she worked with. They treated her like a human.
Justin had been clingy the whole night. Whenever he felt her slip away from him he found himself right back at her side. They both knew the reason why,
T-minus 5 days.
She had been on the phone with her team the previous day talking about what to expect. She also had a meeting with the filming crew and costume design. Justin was out of the screen view, but he was listening in. There was a lot of technical stuff he didn't know anything about. It was fascinating in some way. Once she was done he kept asking questions which she was happy to answer.
Bosa's house was in full party mode as it was professionally decorated and fully catered. While they couldn't get too crazy because of the game the next day, it was still nice to somewhat let loose.
While Justin and Sara were lost in each other sometimes. The other few wives that were looking at them gossiped.
"She is a natural at this thing. Seriously, she is fantastic!" Breanna beemed.
Lauren took a sip of her champagne "I'm calling it now. She's going to be a wife."
"Do you think so?" Sebastian's wife looked on. "I don't know, Justin is so private, how is going to handle fame on her level?"
"He brought her around us. I think he is very serious."
The rest of the evening was everyone playing party games, and laughing. Once the clock struck midnight everyone who had a significant other kissed.
Including Justin and Sara, even though their hearts were breaking.

Happy New Year to Jack Lange.
He and his boyfriend stumbled in their apartment after a few too many cocktails at their friends party. They were thankful uber existed.
As they were doing their night routines he decided to answer messages from his friends wishing him a happy new year. Out of curiosity, he scrolled Instagram and saw Kristen's page pop up under "suggested". Going on it he saw her profile was open.
Once he settled in bed he began deep diving. He saw several posts about Eugene Oregon, where she said she was from.
As he was scrolling something caught his eye. An ugly mix of green and yellow that wanted to make him gag. However he saw the Oregon University logo
"O"
He gasped, it was the exact logo that was on Sara's hoodie when he caught her rollerblading. "No fucking way" he whispered. He got up and after trying to control his dizziness he grabbed his camera on the chair. Flicking through it he saw the exact same photo he was thinking about it.
Going on his laptop he typed in Oregon University in Google
"Oregon University is a public university located in Eugene Oregon."
He kept scrolling, he hit the notable alumni tab. Some famous people did attend but no one worthy.
As he was about to exit he noticed someone.
"Justin Herbert."
Based on the helmet he was a football player, and a fine one despite the ugly colors. Clicking on his profile, he could have passed out.
He went to his camera again. Jack came across the picture he was looking for. The unidentified man in the Porsche that was in Sara's driveway.
"HOLY SHIT"
He typed in 'Justin Herbert'
'Justin Patrick Herbert is an American Football Quarterback who currently plays for the Los Angeles Chargers."
He went to another tab and searched for something else.
There on Google images was Sara spotted at Charger games with Joe Grant.
This was it, the answer that he was looking for. "Thank you Kristen!" He yelled as he danced around.
Sara Wozniak was dating Justin Herbert!
His boyfriend came into the room. "What are you doing?"
Jack kissed him and told him everything. His partner smirked. "You are the best for a reason! You are getting that promotion!"
Jack laughed menacingly. Now he just needed to get the personal details. Which was the easy part. He already had an inside source close to Sara. He got all the juicy details on her and Harry and he was going to do it to her and this Justin Herbert.
2023 was off to a great start for Jack Lange.
A/N: I got to fix the format, I'm posting this from my phone. So I apologize, happy holidays everyone! Looks like someone else knows the secret.... and not with the best intentions

Okay so I saw Black Panther Wakanda Forever last night here are my thoughts.
(DM's are open for incoherent screeching about how good it was)
Chadwick Boseman. My god. This movie felt like closure for us too, as well as the characters. It was truly beautiful. I was in a cinema with a couple of assholes who liked sprinting down the stairs making fast noises and talking but they were silent with that intro. Everyone was. It was so goddamn powerful my god
This movie was so fucking emotional. I lost count of the amount of times I cried. This is the first cinema I've been in where EVERYBODY clapped when Shuri was there in her Black Panther suit, "The Black Panther lives!" And it felt amazing.
The themes of grief and vengeance feel awfully similar to Peter in No Way Home, having lost absolutely everyone and getting so goddamn angry, but in the end you don't kill them because you're not like that. And this is in no way a complaint. I LOVED that Shuri was able to show all these emotions and yell and scream and grieve and cry. I honestly would have said "fair enough" if she killed Namor. Letitia Wright is such a fucking amazing actress and she absolutely blew me away.
Also just every woman in this movie makes me so goddamn gay and we love them for it
Anyways speaking of Namor! He was really cool! I could agree with his motives and his look was just so cool. The underwater scenes were breathtaking. And I absolutely fucking LOVED the siren song sort of thing they had. Literal chills, just seeing them all. Jump off. Just like that. They really were a show of power and I was genuinely uneasy about the outcome of the fight.
I feel M'Baku definitely convinced me in this movie that he's more than just a comedic relief side character, he really gave it his all and was there for Shuri and he's iconic in his skirt.
The Dora Milaje remain as every fucking badass, I love them so much. I will now be holding onto Ayo and Aneka for the time being, for safekeeping. And Okoye remains as ever an icon, the scene where she is stripped of her rank really hit you right in the feels.
I never really thought of Queen Ramonda a lot, but she really left a lasting impact for me here. Her speech at the UN was very powerful and she held the attention of any room she was in. Her death is fucking heartbreaking and M'Baku holding Shuri back while she screams for her mam - like fuck. Why do you do this to me. Why.
I think Riri Williams will be fun to see again, I don't really have much to say about her in this movie but she was a good character. The parallels to Tony Stark were not gone unnoticed.
T'CHALLA AND NAKIA HAD A SON😭😭😭
Everett Ross could probably have gone without being in this movie lol but he was good to see, we love our American white boy trying to keep things peaceful while having no fucking clue of anything that's going on. He's just trying his best.
And I hardly recognised Val, so she's the director of what, the government?? Also that nugget of information that she was married to Ross at one stage it's like wait what - 😃 But anyways. Hope she shows up more and maybe we can learn more about her!
Overall this was a fantastic movie, it made me cry so many times and gave us a beautiful story. Thank you everyone involved in making it and RIP Chadwick 🕊️<3

Split Apart | Chapter 9 - Route Less Traveled
wc: 3.3k
warnings: descriptions of death/dead bodies, gorey kinda, mild swearing, mentions of a weapon but no weapon use. Heavily implied death at the end, nothing descriptive that comes in the next chapter. Kinda harassment by Atsumu?
a/n: ayo nobody ever told me writing a series would be this hard. Consistency? Keeping track of plot points? Making sure it stays interesting? Whos she? Anyways I hope this chapter isn’t too terrible. I’m doing my best... Also I wanted to mention here that Atsumu is kinda like annoying and seems like a douche but... we have plans for him. Promise. Also his behavior with reader is purely for comedic effect/relief from the heavier tones. It’s implied that reader has never told him to stop explicitly (and if she did, he would). Wanted to make that clear since his behavior this chapter is definitely leaning into more of a grey area.

Tumblr media
“Ya mean to tell me we’re leaving again?”
Leave it to Atsumu to complain the second he hears a plan he doesn’t completely agree with. Scratch that, the second he even woke up.
“We’re tryin’ ta get to Hokkaido as soon as possible. There’s no time to dilly dally.” Kita explained, leaning up against the back wall of the damaged house, staring across the room at the huddle of Inarizaki boys, all of them groggy and seeking warmth from the others.
You sat near his side, watching quietly as Kita assembled the group, and explained to them the logistics of the plan you had made together the night before.
The wood was cold against your rear, seeping through the insulation of your yoga pants, the black fabric stained with patches of dust.
In your hand was an empty bag of chips and package of natto. The remnants of your halfhearted breakfast.
“It’s barely even light out yet!” He grumbled, rubbing at his face to press away the sleepy numbness that had settled over the course of the night. “We couldnt’a waited even a bit longer?”
“Once we get to Otsu, we’ll spend an extra day resting, okay?” Kita promised, doing his best to placate an increasingly rowdy Atsumu.
“Unless you wanna turn into a popsicle by the time we get to Hokkaido, I’d suggest you stop complaining, Miya.” You grumbled, leaning your back up against the fragmented wall. “If we wait too much longer, we’ll have to deal with winter on top of everything.”
“She has a point, ‘Tsumu.” Osamu said, turning towards his brother.
“Of course ya’d side with her!” Atsumu snapped, glowering at his twin. Osamu didn’t respond, impassive and unamused. “But fine. We can leave.”
Akagi chuckled from the side. “Don’t think it was up to you anyways.” He said around a mouthful, stuffing the last of his chips into his mouth.
You snorted in amusement at the scandalized look that befell Atsumu’s face.
“The walk shouldn’t be too difficult.” With his words, the attention drifted from your side of the room to the opposite, where Kai had just entered from an adjacent hallway. He stood alongside Chisaki and the other Kyoto locals that were going to be tagging along. “It’s mostly flat, and should be pretty open in comparison to the city streets.”
“Thank ya again for comin’ with us.” Kita had left his perch against the wall, approaching Kai with a friendly smile and nod. Kai only waved him off unceremoniously.
“It’s no problem, really. We’re all ready to go, looks like you guys need a few more minutes though?”
Kita glanced over his shoulder where the Inarizaki members stood, observing their states of being. Everyone was slumped with their bags nearby, some of them distracted by their breakfasts or by conversations happening under hushed tones.
“No...” Kita said, letting out a long, weary breath as he spoke, his expression remaining blasé. “That’s about as ready as they can manage.”
“Huh... alright then.”
“C’mon guys!” Kita shouted, dragging the wandering attention back towards the front and the task at hand. “Remember to stick with a buddy at all times. Doesn’t matter who.”
You pushed yourself from the floor, hands swiping down the front of your pants, adding another streak of unseemly white as the dust they picked up moved from your palms to the dark fabric. “Hey Samu, you wanna-” you paused, sentence interrupted by a harsh gaze boring into you, green eyes narrowed in your direction.
Suna had already attached himself to Osamu’s side, a long arm swung over his shoulders, hanging off of it possessively. Osamu turned his head, peering back at you with an apologetic expression on his face.
“Gee, sorry Y/n.” He said, pointedly ignoring the way Suna was glaring at you, ready to tear you up if you even tried to take Osamu away from him again. “I already promised Rin I’d walk with him. Don’t think its fair for him ta be stuck with Tsumu twice in a row...”
“Oh! That’s okay.” You smiled and waved him off. “I’ll find someone else to walk with.” It didn’t bother you, really, but you could still see the guilt dripping from Osamu’s gaze. You shifted your attention towards Suna, who still hadn’t taken his eyes off of you. “I wouldn’t wanna be stuck with the other Miya either.”
“Oh, Y/n! Y/n!” Speak of the devil. You flinched, warily glancing over your shoulder in search of the culprit. Atsumu was pushing his way through the group of boys towards you, stumbling over his and others’ feet rather clumsily. “I’ll walk with ya!”
You stiffened, whipping your head back around and walking briskly in the opposite direction.
Is it too much to hope he didn’t notice I heard him...?
“Wait, Y/n! I know ya can hear me, just wait!”
“Not happening, Miya!” You ducked behind Akagi, listening to the blond’s heavy footfalls as he raced after you.
“What? Why?” Atsumu had crouched down, peering beneath Akagi’s arm to look you in the face as you scrambled away.
“In what world would I willingly spend time with you?”
“Aw c’mon, I promise ya it’ll be fun! I’ll make it worth your while.”
You froze in your tracks.
Atsumu had straightened again, standing back with his hands folded over his stomach, that stupid, insolent smirk on his stupid face. If the change in his tone hadn’t been enough, that certainly was, and he topped it off with a wink.
Your mouth pressed into a thin line as you too straightened out, not taking your eyes off of him, though saying nothing, and doing nothing.
“I knew ya’d listen ta reason.” You had to physically restrain yourself from cringing at the purr in his voice, a triumphant look on his face that was entirely unbidden. “Come take a spin on the Atsumu train.”
You baulked. Without missing a beat, you turned your head to the side, shoving a finger into your open mouth and mimicking a rather intense rendition of vomiting, gagging obscenely to get the message across.
“Bleh!” You rolled your eyes, nose scrunched in disgust at the smug expression still plastered on his face. “How could you possibly manage to be more gross Miya?”
Atsumu’s expression faltered, giving way to his true emotions for little more than a heartbeat. “Ya don’t even have a partner anyways,” He said with a heavy sigh. “M’sorry, could ya just walk with me? And stop calling me Miya! It’s weird.”
“I do have a buddy.” You narrowed your eyes at him. “Miya.”
“Hey!” He puffed his chest up irritably. “Ya don’t have a partner, stop lyin’. And can’t I have a nickname? Ya just called Samu by his. I have one too, ya know! We’re twins. Package deal, package name.”
“Don’t lump me in with you!” Osamu’s voice rose from somewhere in the group of boys, earning snickers from all around you.
You turned on your heels, rushing past Aran and Ginjima and making a beeline for the front of the room.
“Y/n!” Atsumu took off after you, hot on your tail as you cut through the crowd of onlookers, and latched yourself onto the arm of an unsuspecting Kita Shinsuke.
Atsumu skidded to a halt just in front of you, eyes wide as he watched you wrap your hands around the captain’s bicep, hugging him close to your chest. Kita didn’t flinch even as you squeezed him tight and yanked him towards you, merely watching on with mild shock.
“Told ya I have a partner.” You said, sticking out your tongue at him childishly.
“Kita-san doesn’t count!” Atsumu groaned, though he remained rooted in his spot, fearful of approaching with Kita right at your side. He was scary on his own, even scarier when it came to things involving you.
“Does too, Nasty-tsumu!” You said, skirting around Kita’s side so you were half hidden behind his bulky frame.
It was quiet for a moment, before you felt the man beneath your grasp jerk suddenly. You glanced up to see him hiding his face, coughing into his fist to stifle a laugh.
Atsumu seemed less amused, pouting at the nickname and Kita’s reaction to it. “Nasty-tsumu?!”
“What, don’t like that one?” You asked, basking in the warm glow of Kita’s soft giggles. “How about Grody-tsumu? Shitty-tsumu?”
It was your turn to wear a smug smile, as you heard the strangled coughs and poorly concealed laughter rise up from the rest of the Inarizaki members.
“Hey! Guys??” Atsumu whirled around to face his friends and brother, all of them snickering behind their hands.
“Seems like ya earned this one, Nasty-tsumu.” Osamu chirped from his spot, snickering at his brother’s new nickname.
“Hey-”
“Sorry, sorry.” It was Ginjima who spoke up, a grin on his face as he approached Atsumu, slapping a hand onto his shoulder. “We didn’t mean ta laugh. I’ll walk with ya... Shitty-tsumu.”
“Okay, okay, that’s enough.” Kita hummed, the sound jittery with the giggles still making their way through him. “Let’s head out before it gets too late.”
You let go of his arm promptly, settling at a comfortable pace at his side instead as the group left the safety of the abandoned house, stepping outside and into the dingy light for the first time since the day before.
There was the distinct scent of petrichor in the air - it must have rained overnight.
“Sorry about grabbing onto you like that.” You said with a sheepish smile, but Kita only shrugged his shoulders, eyes glittering as he glanced down at you.
“I don’t mind..”
With 7 inarizaki members in tow, plus the 5 kyoto members, the troupe started making their way down the streets of the Kyoto prefecture, heavy grey clouds hanging from above.
It was a little rocky at first, while making your way from the suburbs to the rural highways. Streets littered in debris made it difficult to effectively maneuver so many people. Within the first hour, however, route 9 was well in sights.
You hadn’t accounted for the sheer amount of cars littering the highway. They were much easier to get around than the piles of burned wood and stone you had grown accustomed to. There was always a path cutting past pileups consisting of several cars, many crunched into each other and against the stone barrier along the edge of the highway. Only a few vehicles remained untouched in the middle of the road, abandoned, with doors thrown wide open and the keys still in the ignition. The rest of the cars had careened off the sides of the road, smashed into the outlying trees and bushes, flipped upside down with parts sprawled across grass.
There wasn’t a single soul in sight. You glanced around as you walked, feet crushing already broken glass into smaller pieces, a chunk of a bumper skittering away from your foot as you accidentally kicked it, disturbing the stillness of the surrounding area.
“I wonder where they all went to...” It was Kita who spoke up, his eyes trained on one of the cars that had flipped, the door opened just a crack and covered in blood. You could only imagine what had happened there.
“I’ve no idea-” You wandered off from Kita’s side as you spoke, drawing closer to one of the pileups you were passing by.
“Y/n, wait-” Kita called, reaching out for you.
You stepped around one of the cars, avoiding the engine that had fallen from it during the collision, and peered through the window.
The sight you saw had bile rushing up your throat, a queasy feeling taking hold of your insides, wrenching and twisting them. You slapped a hand over your mouth to hold in the terrified squeal, and the breakfast you had eaten just hours before.
The people in the car were still there.
They were covered in cuts and scrapes, bodies crushed against the seats to the point of immobility. Though you supposed it didn’t matter anyways, seeing as they were no longer alive.
But all of that was hard to see past the jarring blue-ish purple tinge that had taken hold of their skin, leaving it blotched and messy, accented by thick black lines of blood leaking from every hole and gash, smothering their faces and fronts.
They were hardly recognizable as human.
You stumbled back, holding your breath, pinching your nose shut, unable to tear your eyes away from the gruesome scene.
Warm hands wrapped around your waist, before they tugged you in the opposite direction. Only that was able to break the sickening trance that had taken hold over you.
You shuddered in Kita’s hold as he dragged you away from the crash, tucking your head down and against his chest, so that you wouldn’t have to see anything similar in the nearby vehicles.
“Nobody look into these cars!” He yelled out, the group responding to the urgency lacing his voice, and the curious few backing away from the separate cars they had been approaching. “Are you okay?” His voice was much softer now, quieter, as he looked down at your figure.
You were green in the face, struggling to hold back the sickness in your stomach. “’M fine..” You mumbled, a dazed expression on your face. “Let’s just go.”
You continued down the highway, keeping your gaze on nothing but the dirty pavement and painted white lines. Kita never left your side, his fingers brushing against the small of your back every once in a while as he gently guided you along.
You hardly payed attention, the words he exchanged with Kai and the other members of the group nothing more than mumbling as you walked.
The path went on for hours.
You couldn’t get the image of that couple out of your head, their gruesome demise flashing in your minds eye every time you caught a glimpse of a car bumper, or the faintest whiff of decomposing bodies on the breeze.
It was almost relieving when you finally saw a city rising up in the distance, drawing closer and closer with every step you took.
“There’s Kyoto.” Kai breathed, pausing next to Kita as the group approached the edge of the city. Almost none of the buildings remained intact - what was once a proud skyline completely leveled.
There was a distinct lack of buildings down a section of the city three lanes wide. A crack on the other half of the highway started near the edge of the city, running into the populated area and growing wider and wider as it went. The road was split into two, pavement slipping in, buildings leaning precariously over the edge of the chasm, easily toppled by the added weight of a single rock. Those buildings that had been lucky enough to not get caught in the opening were crumbled, and those that hadn’t been so lucky? Well, you couldn’t see very far down, but you were sure if you took a peek, you could see piles of rubble and stone at the bottom, maybe a sign or two, hundreds of meters below your feet.
“I can’t believe this...” You muttered, venturing just a little further into the city’s borders, Kita sticking close to your side. “This is even worse than I imagined.”
“Let’s get going.” Kita’s voice was low as he spoke, warily looking around the area. “We don’t know what’s in here. It’s best we get through as quickly as possible.”
“I second that.” Ginjima said, shuddering as the group stepped further into the decimated city. “I feel like I’m being watched.”
“It’s entirely possible that we are.” Kai said, pulling his weapon from the pocket of his bag. “Keep your eyes peeled.”
It wasn’t as easy to make progress as it had been on the open highway. Toppled buildings created huge barricades impossible to climb over, and there were several crevasses opened in the street, though none as big as the one you had seen near the outskirts.
The path became much less straightforward than had been planned on the map.
The group was dodging into side streets to avoid hazards, rounding blind corners in complete silence, ears and eyes peeled for the faintest of movements and sounds.
But nothing happened.
Even as you crawled your way through the city, drawing nearer and nearer the opposite side of Kyoto, closer towards Otsu, you didn’t see a single person, nor a single disturbance.
The feeling of being watched never left, gazes prickling into your back no matter which alley you turned down, or how many buildings you dodged behind.
But still you didn’t see anyone.
Whoever was out there was only observing the group from afar. You couldn’t feel any malicious intent, and they had yet to do anything - they were simply watching those who passed through their territory.
It didn’t make the hair on the back of your neck prickle any less.
It was only as you began to approach the edge of Kyoto, only a little less than an hour away from Otsu, did you finally begin to relax a little, more capable of ignoring the burning sensation at the back of your skull, and the eerie sense of doom surrounding you.
You made it through the city without incident.
Your theories had been correct, your plan had worked. Everyone had made it through safe and sound.
“I can’t believe it.” You breathed as the buildings and rubble began to thin, making way to the suburbs and outskirts, broken down shrines lining the path. “That seemed almost too easy.”
“Let’s take a win where we can get one.” Kita said, laughing a little. You could hear the relief behind his breathless giggles, pent up nervousness finally released.
The sun glinted, hanging low in the sky, just beneath the canopy of rainclouds. It was getting late. The shadows that had been nonexistent loomed a little further, stretching down the length of the block.
“Seems you didn’t need us after all.” Kai said with a smile, Chisaki tagging along at his heel as they walked alongside both you and Kita.
“I guess not. Sorry to make ya come all this way.”
“It’s alright Kita-san.” Kai said, adjusting the strap of his bag to rest more comfortably against his skin. “We’ll use this opportunity to load up on supplies we can’t get in Nantan. Can you guys make it to Otsu on your own from here?”
The group stopped walking, allowing the inarizaki members to gather close to Kita. As the pair spoke, the Kyoto locals trailed off, making their way towards a drugstore on the opposite side of the street - Chisaki leading the crew.
“I think we’ll manage.” Kita said, returning the smile Kai offered him. “Is this where we part ways, then?”
“Seems like it.” Kai held out his hand once more, grabbing Kita’s firmly in his grasp. “Don’t forget to send those rescuers our way once you make it out of here.”
“How could I forget that?” Kita grinned, his fingers squeezing tight. “Stay out of trouble.”
“No can do!” Kai said, releasing Kita from his hold and jogging off after his group members. “It’s in my blood!”
You watched with a smile as he joined Chisaki at the entry to the drugstore, discreetly pressing a kiss against the crown of her head before letting her go inside.
He turned just before disappearing into the semidarkness of the store, waving one last goodbye to you and the rest of the group. You waved enthusiastically after him, joined in your ministrations by most of the others.
“Thank yo-” A loud crack drowned out the rest of your words.
You blinked, looking around for the source of the deafening sound, but everything was still.
Another loud crack boomed through the deserted streets.
You watched in horror as the building across the way crumbled, collapsing in on itself, and burying everything, and everyone, beneath piles of cement rubble.

Okay so just now watching episode 4 of tfaws because I just couldn't after ep 3. After seeing spoilers for ep 5, I was like, okay I can now proceed.
First, I love Ayo. This woman showed up, called Bucky out, and gave him a time limit to do his thing (like homie you know you messed up, but let me tell you you messed up). She took charge and I love that about Wakandans. They carry themselves with such authority.
I wish Sam had that. I wish he could just be up front and open about his opinions in this series because that seems more his thing since his first appearance in TWS. Sure he's comedic relief but he definitely stood on his own and voiced his opinion boldly.
Sam/Anthony Mackie has a sexy strut. Especially from behind. The swing of his shoulders. The bow of his legs.
I hate Zemo and his condescension. This man is so full of himself.
You can see the weight of all this on Sam. He is trying to hold everything together, take the flag smashers down the right way. Be a hero the right way but it's bearing down on his shoulders.
John Walker really is that white man. Has to be in charge has to be in control and when he's not he gets angry and tries to take it. Like he reminds me of all those cops that belittle people and take advantage of their authority and terrorize innocent people who 'deign' to raise their voices at them.
Sam is the absolute best of us. There are few people in the world like him. Optimistic and moral.
Sam Wilson: "Let's be clear shield or no shield the only thing you're running in here is your mouth"

Ayo's non-reaction to John Walker's introduction: I cackled. Do you hear me had to pause the TV to straight up guffaw. HA!
Again the AUTHORITY "wherever the Dora Milaje find themselves to be." Classic
John Walker: "They weren't even super soldiers." The utter amount failure and self flagellation in that statement alone. Man homeboy has some serious self-esteem issues.
Lemar has beautiful teeth.
Sam out here holding his own with these super soldiers 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My overall thoughts: I needed more Sam in this episode. More of his dilemma. He wants to save everyone and everything but he can't. It's obvious he can't. He doesn't show it in depth(the show has not exactly explored it as of this episode), but it is there. It has to be. Every hero has to deal with the fact that everyone can't be saved or is worth saving.
I get that we had to see John Walker's decline to darkness (which he didn't really have that far to travel if you ask me) I just didn't care for it. I mean little Kurt Russell can act I will give him that, but I don't care about him or his story.
Bucky has gotten on my last nerve this whole series, but I think there's something about Sebastian Stan that makes me have a soft spot for Bucky.
I hate that I had so little say about Sam because he had so little a part.
This is less a buddy cop show and more an ensemble cast type of series.
