the hilarious world of Tirooon Jokes, where controllers take silliness and fun to a whole new level! Picture this: when the operator asks a pilot and say "TIRON?" and like clockwork, at least two other people respond in the background like a PARROT BIRD with an enthusiastic "TIROOOOON!!" It doesn't stop there, though.aviation humor It's an ongoing cycle of banter and playful teasing that never fails to bring smiles to our faces.🤣😂😆 Must watch: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Ht100hWtXTx2YhGYVFHejldUeNIcJ2l https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Ht100hWtXSFB-KhJwrBI67JMmWDnBM-

My webcomic is old enough to drink.
It's May 25th, which means my webcomic is now old enough to drink.
In production from May 2003 to October 2016, finalized in early 2017 and finished for good in early 2019, ATC is... a thing. That I made. That I'm still recovering from.

has bebe done any non-musical theatre? a quick google is suggesting to me not so much, but i know you will know the 100% accurate answer to this (also cc @voltives)
Yes, yes she has. She starred in Terence McNally's Golden Age for MTC's off-Broadway production in late 2012/early 2013. She played Maria Malibran, a Spanish opera singer known for her wild contralto-to-soprano range. I don't think there was any opera singing included.
And coincidentally (for your specific interests) this was the same season in which MTC produced The Assembled Parties starring Judith Light in her Tony-winning role.
Bebe also did a few other straight plays, including A Midsummer Night's Dream at CSC in the spring of 2012 where she and Steven Skybell shared scenes. (He's the one in the donkey's head.) Check out those costumes. Hot damn.
Also, Writer's Block in 2003 for ATC. Some one-act comedy I don't know much about other than it was a Woody Allen venture.
In 2019, she did a regional production of A Small Fire, with her greying hair, I might add. Very attractive.
And definitely others, so let me know if you need a comprehensive list.

Trip to Purdue EP#3
Let's talk about my amazing trip down to Purdue. It has been a little bit of time since me and my friend Joe flew down there but this follows my previous update post.
On a beautiful Saturday morning I woke up just at the crack of dawn to meet Joe at the Flying Cloud airport. We pulled out N128PP, Joe's 2019 Cirrus SR22T and taxied out for a take off. We departed VFR out to the southeast and picked up flight following once were clear of the MSP class bravo airspace. The flight was rather uneventful. It was quite early in the morning so we were both just waking up and taking in the scenery with the morning sun beaming on farm fields. Once we started to get closer we picked up the weather in Lafayette and read out NOTAMS for the arrival in for Purdue Aviation day. It was pretty straight forward, since we were talking to ATC with VFR flight following we were switched to approach and they had us enter the pattern for a standard landing. It was my first time in Lafayette so while Joe was flying I was taking in the views of their beautiful college campus while looking out for other aircraft and monitoring aircraft systems. Upon touchdown Joe kinda slammed it down but nothing less we made it to Lafayette and got marshaled into out spot where we would be park for the day.
Me and Joe were generously greeted by very good friend Nick. He just graduated Purdue this past fall so it was his first year going to Purdue Aviation day not as a student. We met with him and walked over the show ground where multiple fighter jets were parked and some regional jets for kids to tour. It was a really well setup event for it being all completely student run. We stuck around for a bit walking around airplanes and talking about aviation relating things until the airshow started. The A10 demonstration team was going to kick things off. It was really neat getting to see the capabilities of a very interesting ground support aircraft and how it can be deployed in combat. Later on we were treated to a heritage flight with a P51 followed by a few F16 flybys. Overall it was a very fun event to attend especially since im going to University of North Dakota, it felt nice supporting other schools as well.
Once the airshow was completed me and Joe headed back to the airplane to depart home. We waited for a few minutes to let some other aircraft start up and taxi out and eventually it was our turn. We started a taxi out and the marshallers signaled us to hault. It turned out Joe did not close the baggage door so we were lucky enough to have one of the guys outside close it up and we were on out way. We picked up flight following on the ground and departed for Chicago. It was pretty easy navigating towards Chicago airspace and entering just below for the skyline tour. It was a great way to work on flying in busy airspaces and understand the process of everything. It was more a good refresher and a good way to get exposed to something like that.
We scooted on by the skyline and transitioned throught the bravo airpace on the north side of Chicago. It was a seamless flight home with amazing weather and fairly quiet comms.
On the arrival into FCM the tower controller was all over the place on where he wanted us to go. We entered from the southeast meaning since they were landing runway 10R and 10L it would make sense for us to enter a right downwind for runway 10R. The tower controller I think was under the impression that we were coming in from the north so he kept telling us to enter a left downwind for 10L, which in our case wound mean that we have to overfly the airport to start that. Fortunately both me and Joe were smart and were able to keep clarifying until it made since. The takeaway in a situation where you are just unsure about something ALWAYS ask air traffic control. You would way rather as too many times then not at all and violate their directions.
In the end it was a good trip for me and Joe and a really good experience for both of us. It really did help us both grow as pilots with some new experiences and built out confidence up.
Here are some trip photos
This is my math teachers nephew Grant, he was helping manage everything.

Tanzania's Arusha Technical College Transforms to Hub for Renewable Energy
At first glance, the Arusha Technical College (ATC) in Tanzania captivates visitors with its vibrant green spaces and distinctive white and mustard-colored buildings. But beyond its picturesque facade, this college located in Arusha's central business district has become a thriving center for renewable energy studies, thanks to a regional skills development program.
Empowering Dreams of Renewable Energy Engineering
Yohana Mawaka, a 22-year-old aspiring electrical engineer, began his journey at Arusha Technical College in January 2020. Opting for a three-year electrical and solar energy engineering course, Mawaka made a deliberate choice to pursue his passion. Having already completed his secondary education at Mwageza Secondary School, he was determined to contribute to a sustainable future in the face of increased environmental awareness and shifting energy demands. In his second year of studies, Mawaka has already accomplished impressive feats. He has successfully built a portable solar lantern system, capable of lighting and charging devices. Reflecting on his experience, Mawaka emphasized the practical skills and encouragement for creativity provided by the course, which have been empowering for him.
Transforming ATC into a Center of Excellence
Arusha Technical College hasn't always been the preferred choice for higher education. In the past, students overlooked the college due to its traditional educational program's perceived inadequacy in meeting current industrial needs. Moreover, the lack of emphasis on practical skills, shortage of qualified teachers, and outdated facilities posed additional challenges. However, in 2019, ATC was selected as one of the 16 Regional Flagship TVET Institutes (RFTIs) in the $293 million East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP). This project, financed by the World Bank, aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of technical and vocational education and training programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. The Arusha Technical College Coordinator, Mr. Sithole Mwakatage, envisions the transformation of the decommissioned Kikuletwa Renewable Energy Training and Research Centre (KRETC) into a regional center of excellence for renewable energy. This center, located in Hai district, will focus on hydropower, solar, wind, and bioenergy. The revitalized KRETC will engage students in the daily operations of its power plant, further enriching their practical knowledge.
Changing Perceptions and Bridging the Skills Gap
Traditionally, Tanzanian students who achieve the necessary grades in their form four (O' Level) exams have the option to pursue A' Level studies and then progress to universities. However, Technical and Vocational Colleges (TVET) like ATC have historically been overshadowed by the preference for university education. Although with a changing landscape, more TVET colleges are aligning their programs with industry demands, yielding positive outcomes for graduates.
EASTRIP's Impact on Skills Development
EASTRIP supports three additional RFTIs in Tanzania, in addition to Arusha Technical College, as part of its efforts to enhance TVET programs. The project also supports seven colleges in Ethiopia and five in Kenya. To access funds, these institutes are required to establish college-level Industrial Advisory Bodies, develop strategic investment plans, validate their curricula with industries, enhance trainer and management capacity, and upgrade their training facilities.
The Revitalization of KRETC and Expansion of Opportunities
KRETC, an 87-year-old institution, is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation. Not only is the center being repurposed, but its hydro-power plant is also being rehabilitated to generate approximately 1.65MW of electricity by the end of this year. Students from Kenya and Ethiopia will soon have the opportunity to join KRETC as part of EASTRIP's student mobility program, further enriching the center's vibrant learning environment.
A Paradigm Shift in Enrollment and Empowering Students
With an estimated 11 million young Africans entering the job market each year, addressing the skills gap becomes crucial. A World Bank report from 2019 highlighted that a lack of skills is a significant obstacle for about one-third of enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa. EASTRIP, now in its fourth year of implementation, has witnessed a remarkable increase in student enrollment. The project has surpassed its target of enrolling 20,000 students annually in long-term and short-term training programs, with a notable increase in female enrollment. ATC, in particular, has experienced a 133% surge in enrollment, from 2,017 students in the 2015/2016 academic year to 4,693 students in 2021/2022. This growth includes a significant rise in female students, highlighting the changing perceptions and opportunities for women in STEM-related fields. Magreth Kulaya, a final-year student at ATC, challenges stereotypes as she pursues a diploma course in electrical and hydropower engineering. Breaking the notion that TVET students are considered failures and overcoming the belief that engineering is a challenging path for women, Magreth sees the benefits of the TVET path and the productive skills it imparts. Sensitization and advocacy campaigns by ATC have played a pivotal role in transforming the mindset of students and parents regarding TVET education. Dr. Musa Chacha, the rector at ATC, recognizes the positive impact of these efforts, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness about the potential and benefits of a TVET education. By encouraging visitation to their colleges, they have provided firsthand experiences of the valuable opportunities available. As EASTRIP continues to strengthen enrollment and empower students, Tanzania's Arusha Technical College stands as a testament to the transformative power of practical skills development and renewable energy studies.
