TW: traumatic Birth
20 Hours, that’s how long Carina had been in labor, 20 hrs and she was still at 3cm, another 15 minutes without progress and they would have to do a C-section, she was terrified, at 3 months her and Maya found out they were having a little boy, and at 6 months they were told it would be likely he wouldn’t survive his own birth. Yet they still hoped, still prayed, and most of all, they believed, believed that their son, their Piccolo, their poco bambino, would push through.
then, the doctor came in, “Carina I’m sorry, if we want a chance at him surviving we need to deliver him now, it may already be too late, but if we deliver him, we can get him some extra care and we will do everything we can to see that he survives.” Carina looks up at her wife, needing so see those blue eyes she so hopes her son will inherit “Bambina, he is so small, he is not ready, he needs more time.” She cries then looks up at the celling “ANDREA PLEASE, DONT TAKE MY BAMBINO, PER FAVORE” she sobs. Maya looks at the doctor standing across from her on the opposite side of the bed, and nods, “Love, it’s time, we’re gonna go meet him, and give him all the love in our hearts, I know he is small, but he will be loved, Babe it’s time, it’s time to meet our boy.” She explains, all Carina does is sob as Maya helped the doctor push her bed down the hall, “ I will be with you the whole time baby I promise.” She says as she pulls scrubs over her uniform, and so they go into the OR and start the procedure, Maya standing by Carina’s head the whole time, “alright ladies, here he is.” The doctor explains as he quickly shows the very frail tiny life to both women, then suddenly the world starts going a hundred miles an hour, nurses and doctors swarming the tiny body hooking him up to monitors and cords, Maya looks to her wife, tears in her eyes “Carina do you want me to—“ “ Maya, GO, I don’t want him to be alone, he needs his Mommy, I’ll be ok I promise go, hurry, and take lots of photos.” So Maya ran behind the hoard of doctors and nurses that were rushing their son down the hall, she didn’t even stop to see which ward they were entering, not knowing she would spend months of her life there, and when she caught up with them, her worse fear was coming true, her son wasn’t breathing, he was just laying there, turning blue, with people swarming around him, then a switch flipped, and all a sudden he was regaining color, his frail little arms wailing about, searching, but for what, she wasn’t sure, Maya was terrified, her son weighed less than 3lbs, and was on a ventilator, had a feeding tube, and had even more wires and. Tubes attached to his tiny body, but he was alive, her son was alive, and when the nurse came by with the sticker for his incubator and asked what his name was, Maya smiled and replied, “ his name is Gio, Giovanni Andrea DeLuca-Bishop, huh buddy, your mommy’s little Gio aren’t you bubba?”
part two will be posted soon I promise
