A Cruel Reaction to R Ashwin's Fans on Social Media
The growing toxicity of fan conflicts on social media, especially among followers of cricketing greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, has alarmed former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Speaking on his Ash ki Baat YouTube channel, Ashwin stressed that conversations should center on cricket itself rather than the brand values of players. "Fan wars on social media are getting really toxic," he said. I've always maintained that we should talk about cricket as such, rather than a player's brand worth.

Recalling his love for Sachin Tendulkar, Ashwin talked about his own fandom without denigrating other athletes like Rahul Dravid. "For instance, I used to be a huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar as a cricket fan," he said. I won't disparage Rahul Dravid because of that. According to this viewpoint, it is crucial to respect every player, regardless of their individual preferences. India's recent Test series defeats to Australia and New Zealand have heightened the controversy surrounding Kohli and Sharma.
Both players' performances during this difficult time have drawn criticism. Ashwin acknowledged that every player has their own opinions about their profession and avoided making predictions about their futures with the team in spite of this scrutiny. Instead of participating in polarizing rivalries that undermine the essence of cricket, he advised supporters to enjoy the game together.

Sunil Gavaskar: India fortunate to have Ashwin, Jadeja in the team
Ravichandran Ashwin again showed why he is a match-winner in India with a stirring performance at his home ground in Chennai. It is always special to play at home because, as a kid, one has gone to the same stadium and seen so many matches from the stands. The seats in the stands seem so distant from the champions that are playing out there, and now suddenly, some years later, you are the one in…

R Ashwin's Emotional Tribute on 100th Test: A Journey Beyond Cricket
Ravichandran Ashwin, the stalwart of Indian cricket, celebrated a significant milestone as he received his special 100th Test cap from India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, during the fifth and final Test against England. In an emotional and pride-filled gratitude speech, Ashwin’s words resonated with the essence of Test cricket, reflecting on the profound life lessons the format imparts.
“Test cricket is the closest synergy that you can find to life,” expressed Ashwin, his voice tinged with emotion. While acknowledging the popularity of T20 leagues like the IPL and the aspirations of young cricketers, he emphasized the unique values that Test cricket instills. “It will teach you to adapt, dealing with pressures,” he added, underscoring the importance of the longest format of the game.
Ashwin, who made his Test debut in 2011, took a moment to pay tribute to his father, Ravichandran, who played a pivotal role in shaping his cricketing journey. Recalling his early days, Ashwin vividly remembered his father’s dedication, taking him to coaching camps on a bike, demonstrating a government employee’s unwavering support for his son’s dreams.
Expressing deep gratitude, Ashwin acknowledged the emotional significance of the moment, particularly for his father, who couldn’t be present. He credited his family, including his mother and grandfather, for playing crucial roles in his cricketing journey.
Acknowledging the unwavering support from his wife, Preeti, Ashwin reflected on her significant role during challenging periods. “My wife didn’t know what she was getting into. She’s gotten into it, and she’s standing next to me today. I have got two lovely kids who are also enjoying my journey over the last few years,” he shared, highlighting the importance of family support.
After handing Ashwin the coveted cap, Rahul Dravid expressed his admiration for the Tamil Nadu cricketer. Dravid emphasized that Ashwin’s journey began from the streets of Chennai and has been both long and eventful. He acknowledged the crucial role played by Ashwin’s family and congratulated them on this well-deserved milestone.
The ceremony was marked by applause from Ashwin’s teammates, who honored him with a guard of honor as he stepped onto the field, celebrating not just a cricketing achievement but a journey beyond the boundaries of the sport.

R. Ashwin's Funny Comment To Jonny Bairstow Carrying Pitch Invader Off The Ground During The 2nd Ashes Test
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin came out with a funny comment after England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow carried a protester off the ground as climate activists briefly interrupted play on the first day of the second Ashes Test at Lord's on Wednesday.

Just before Stuart Broad bowled the second over, two protesters from Just Stop Oil, an environmental activist group that wants an end to new oil and gas exploration in the North Sea, ran out of the Grandstand and onto the outfield, sprinkling the group's trademark orange powder on the square but not on the pitch.
Watch the video here.
While uploading the video on Twitter, Ashwin wrote: "Good start to the second test. Bairstow has done some heavy lifting already." The Metropolitan Police later reported that they had arrested three people.

Thoughts on Ishan :
(and ict in general)
1. When he opted out of India's test squad before our series with S. Africa....I knew... I KNEW it will be a long time before we'll get to see him playing for India again.
And then few weeks later Rahul Dravid said in a press conference... He can come back... Just play domestic.... My heart sank.
Here's the thing, I don't blame him at all for taking a break due to mental fatigue.
I fully support his decision as well. He prioritised himself and that's good.
But my dude... If I was your friend, if I was there with you... I wouldn't have let you go.
I would have grabbed his trousers and refused to let go. This is team India. You take one step back and 10 other people are standing right behind you ready to take your place.
Shubhman gill was hyped up so much... Remember his 126 in 63 balls against New Zealand?
But he faltered.
And Today he's in reserve.
Jaiswal is going to be our new opener in all 3 formats very soon. And there's nothing wrong with that. The guy earned it.
Ishan left the South Africa Series and a month later during the india Vs England test Series Jurel was picked and he did an excellent job.
Now imagine... Imagine if Ishan was there instead... If ishan had scored those 90 runs.....he would have made his place permanent.
I'll repeat myself.... I don't blame him for leaving... But he should have thought this through. Especially when a guy like Rahul Dravid is your coach.
(he's the same guy who gave declaration during a test match when Sachin Tendulkar was about to score a century. He's not as innocent as he looks.)
Another thing which really hurts me is how so many people complain about him being benched and then dropped but Yaar....there are tons of players who have gone through this.
Even Ashwin was benched. He said in an interview that when his team would win he wouldn't even feel like going in the ground to congratulate them coz of how hurt he felt.
It happens.
.
.
.
Anyways My overall opinion on this drama is :
1. I support him for leaving.
2. But I hate that he left.
3. A block of ice would be a better coach than Rahul Dravid.
Anyways... Jo hogaya so hogaya.
What I want now is for him to focus on his future.
And He can start by leaving Mumbai Indians.
MI was the team who would pick young players, groom and invest in them and make them capable enough for team India.
The MI we have seen this year is no longer that team. It doesn't matter how many reels their insta page puts out, the atmosphere of that team is tense, awkward and a hot mess.
If Mumbai really cared about a future captain as they claimed.... They should have made Ishan their new captain...like how csk and gt did with ruturaj and gill.
But oh well.
Right now... The best he can do is keep himself fit, play domestic and leave MI at THE EARLIEST.
That team, it's atmosphere, the mismanagement and inner conflicts (believe me, they exist) will not help him at all.
Imo, he doesn't need a team to grow. He has developed a good skill set. What he needs now is a stage.
A team like Kkr, RR or Gt will be great for that because these teams don't drop Their players after 1 or 2 matches... Have good coaches, stable environment and a good atmosphere overall.
Ishan is an excellent wicket keeper + batsman and the type of cricket he plays is best suited for t20 format (one day and test also but especially t20).
Whether we win or lose this t20 world cup... This one is the last one for our senior players.
After that, our youngsters will take charge (at least they should).
Yashasvi and Abhishek should be our openers.
Gill, rutu and Riyan would perfect be for middle order.
Ishan, with his explosive batting style, would be the perfect finisher.
Also... This dumb culture of batters not learning bowling (encouraged by this stupid impact rule) that has developed in the Indian team needs to STOP.
Look at Australia and New Zealand's t20 squad. Look at how many all rounders they have.
Look at ours. We won the 2007 cup because of all rounders as well.
Also... We cage our players. We hold them back. A player like Travis head is playing with such ferocity because his style and mindset is supported by his captain, his team and his media.
Meanwhile... If an Indian player attempts to do the same and doesn't make a big score in 2 -3 matches... He'll be benched instantly.
Another thing... If we look up the stats of our players in this year's t20 wc squad...
Except virat, Bumrah and maybe kuldeep ...everyone else is on ram bharose.
When players like n. reddy, ishan, rutu, gill, Riyan, natrajan... will be groomed and given enough opportunities....their aggressive style will be supported instead of criticized.... that's when we will win trophies.

What I disliked the most about this World Cup final was the crowd. There was no response, no cheers, no enthusiasm.
Team India lacked confidence yesterday right from the beginning, because they knew the pitch wasn't what they would've liked, but still they gave their best, and the least they deserved was and INDIAN crowd cheering for them.
I saw a video this morning of the crowd in Wankhede during the semi-final, poking fun at Surya when he was fielding at the boundary, asking him to bowl. It wasn't much, maybe even distracting him from his job for a moment but it made him smile. It made him realise people were confident enough in the team's abilities to joke during a tense moment in the game.
If you love cricket enough to go watch a match in a stadium, you'll know the confidence Bumrah gets when the crowd chants 'Boom Boom'. And that's what should have been done with each ball.
When you trust Siraj, Kuldeep and Shami's abilities enough, then cheer at each one of their balls. Even if they're lacking in confidence for a moment, let them know that the billion people who back them never doubted them.
The pitch wasn't the best for batting on, and yet Rohit, Virat and Rahul gave their best. It was slow, but they tried, and none of us watching the match could have done that. The crowd should have screamed even when they got a single or defended a tough ball, because they deserve to know how much we appreciate them for the joy they bring us.
Shubman, Shreyas and Jaddu weren't at their best with the bat, but they tried so hard with the fielding. Every time they dived for the ball, every time they stopped a single, they should have been cheered on.
Ishan, Shardul, Hardik, Prasidha and Ashwin didn't even play, but watching the crowd cheer on the team mates despite seeing the conditions would have made them happy, and their smiles would have made the eleven on the field believe in themselves more.
When Cummins had openly declared that he wanted to silence the crowd, then it was the responsibility of every single person in the crowd to fight his challenge. It was their job to stay until the last ball, to instill hope in our boys till the very end. Maybe it could have made our team more confident, and theirs a bit afraid. Maybe things would have been different right now.

Can't help but feel bad for Jaddu. The pain in his statement is heartbreaking. Imagine seeing the legacy that you built brick by brick over 12 years crumble down right in front of you despite of your continuous attempts to salvage it. Him and Ashwin were our two main spinners who had such a chokehold on the pitches while delivering whenever the team needed them and now they're the seeing the result of their blood, sweat, and tears going down the drain. Makes me despise Rohit's statement of "12 saal me ek baar toh chalta hai" even more because it's not just another loss, our fortress has been breached and this was something that was everything to the people who built it, it was our pride and I agree that Rohit is a great captain who did well for India and should not be the only one to take the blame (don't even get me started on the coaching staff) but he shouldn't make statements like these as if this series loss isn't the biggest blow to the Indian Test legacy in a long time. Almost all the players messed up at some point and some questionable decisions were taken but let's just stop pretending that this loss is not a big deal because we're on the verge of being whitewashed at our own home for the first time in cricket history. Again such profound words from Jaddu - "sometimes what you fear yhe most, comes to you" - the fact that he feared a series loss at home the most tells you how important this was for him. And that he feared this because some underlying problems (batting collapses, top order failures, bad approaches, etc) that always were covered up by a single player standing up to perform were not addressed. Hopefully we'll salvage some of our legacy and win the last test but the damage has been done and only God knows what we'll do in Australia.

Kalki 2898 AD - Movie Review

India's highest budget movie till date, Kalki 2898 AD has released today. Nag Ashwin, who is just 2 films old (Evade Subramanyam & Mahanati), helming this magnum opus of science fiction interlinked with mythology, is itself a gutsy attempt. Roping in stalwarts like Amitabh and Kamal Haasan, while having "The Prabhas" and Deepika is taking it to next level. Did he live upto the expectations? Let's see.
Story :- It's 2898 AD, where there are only 3 worlds shown. Complex, Kashi and Shambala. Complex controls Kashi and all other worlds with it's dominance under the guidance of Yaskin (Kamal Haasan). They trace fertile women and use them for making Project K a success, which gives super power to Yaskin. Kashi is deprived of all resources and exploited by Complex. Shambala is a rebel group who want to bring down Complex at any cost. Sumathi (Deepika) is pregnant and crucial for Project K to become success, however she escapes from Complex to save her baby. Bhairava (Prabhas) a bounty hunter, who is desperate to shift to Complex from Kashi, wants to catch Sumathi and handover to complex. Ashwathama (Amitabh) is alive just to protect Sumathi's baby. Bhairava and Ashwathama face off each other in this process. Who wins over whom? Was Sumathi protected? Forms the rest of the story.
Performances :- Entire story revolves around Deepika. She was very good in the given scope and interval block stands out. Amitabh Bachchan has most creamy role, be it the elevations, action sequences or back story. He is outstanding in it. This could be termed as the best mass role for Amitabh in ages. Prabhas is the life of the film. What could be otherwise an serious emotional film with slow pace, was made lively with his comedy timing. His camaraderie with Bujji, one liners during action sequences, sequences with Bhramandam or other cameos, makes the movie enjoyable. His get up in the last scene bring goosebumps to fans. Kamal Haasan has limited scope and he excels in it. Despite having prosthetic and graphics, his intensity in acting arrests you. Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee has a meatier role as commander of Complex and he was great. Shobhana, Pasupathy, Rajendra Prasad, Disha Patani, Anna Ben were fine in their roles. Lot of cameos are there throughout the movie, which surprise us occassionally.
Technicians :- Graphics of the movie is of the highest standard and on par with any Hollywood movie. The team should be applauded for the quality. Art work comes next in line for the accolades, setting up 3 worlds with contrasting premises. Action sequences were very well designed and executed, using the graphics to the maximum extent possible. Santosh Narayanan background score is excellent. Songs could have been better though. Nag Ashwin deserves a bow for the way he has conceived this story and executed it. Perfect blend of Indian mythology in a science fiction film is a very rare phenomenon, which he has aced. No one would believe that the director of Mahanati and Kalki are one and the same. Such is the contrast of these films genre are. He has a Rajamouli and a Bapu in him. Costumes & Make up have complimented the proceedings of the film.
Positives :-
Everything
Negatives :-
Lags in 1st half
Few songs
Summary :- Great story, terrific performances, top notch graphics make it must watch. It should be seen as a story based movie rather than a Prabhas movie, to enjoy it fully. Kudos to Nag Ashwin for pulling it off.
Rating :- 4.5/5 (Kalki is India's Avengers)

I fail to understand exclusion of Ashwin: Sachin Tendulkar | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: Despite the Australian line-up comprising five left-handers batters, premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was not picked in the India XI for the World Test Championship final as coach Rahul Dravid defended the decision saying that overcast conditions forced the team to pick a fourth specialist seamer. Legendary Sachin Tendulkar however found Ashwin’s exclusion baffling, pointing out…

[ad_1] Priyansh Arya. Image: Punjab Kings At 80 for 5, Punjab Kings (PBKS) were clearly on the mat. R Ashwin had picked up two and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were in total control. That was when Priyansh Arya decided to cut loose. Ahead of the IPL, not many had even heard of Arya. Yes, there were murmurs that this young man hits the ball hard, based on his exploits in the Delhi T20 league, but that wasn’t much to write home about. Playing in the Delhi league and playing in the IPL are as different as playing for a second-tier Indian club and playing in the Champions League. With crores watching and millions spent, the IPL is the mother of all spectacles. And Arya was the central act in the drama last night. Not once did he care for the reputations of Ashwin, Matheesha Pathirana or Noor Ahmed. He was writing his own destiny, and in doing so, taking his team to a match-winning score. A 100 in 39 balls is evidence of the gem he produced. Uninhibited and carefree, fearless and positive. At no point was he overawed. So what if an international star was bowling to him. If the ball was in his hitting arc, he would hit it. A freshness in approach that makes the IPL what it is. A hotbed of talent where stars are born and careers are made. From Vignesh Puthur to Ashwani Kumar and now Arya – that’s what defines the Indian Premier League for me. Priyansh smashed his first IPL century in Mullanpur. (PC: IPL/X) The IPL makes boys into men and gets them ready for the big league. Arya, for example, will never again be overawed. Even if he is bowled for a duck, like it happened in the last game against Rajasthan Royals (RR), he would know that there is always a second chance. He knows that he’d open for Punjab the very next game and once more have a crack at redemption. Sport is defined by the present, and by the winner-takes-all mantra. Arya did not care about that duck and did not hold back. That’s what defines the new generation of Indian stars who have catapulted themselves into the public imagination overnight thanks to the IPL. With teams representing the length and breadth of India, the tournament is kind of all-encompassing. So, even if Assam don’t have a team, it has a Riyan Parag to root for. The tournament is also a platform where dream meets reality. While it is hugely difficult for a youngster to break into the Indian team at short notice, with ten teams, the IPL is easier to navigate. Arya is a clear example. And the moment you do so, you are consumed by millions on television and digital, making you an overnight star. Arya is already trending on social media and will soon be the one many look up to. In a sense, the IPL is the country’s greatest talent hunt, lasting two months every year – fulfilling dreams and nurturing ambitions. That’s what makes it unique and explains its success year on year. Now in year 18, it is only expected to grow bigger and better, making it world cricket’s signature property for the foreseeable future. And by doing so, it will give us many more Priyansh Aryas to celebrate.
