News You Need To Know: Senate Armed Services Committee To Review Defense Secretary's Use Of Personal Email Account

The Senate Armed Services Committee is set to review the Defense Secretary Ashton Carter's use of personal email accounts to conduct official business.

“With all the public attention surrounding the improper use of personal email by other administration officials, it is hard to believe that Secretary Carter would exercise the same error in judgment," Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain said in a statement. "The Senate Armed Services Committee has requested copies of the emails and will be conducting a review to ensure that sensitive information was not compromised."

Carter earlier on Thursday expressed regret, accepted responsibility and offered an explanation for his use of a personal account.

“And even that, I shouldn’t have been doing,” he admitted. “And when I realized that, I stopped. But this is — I have to hold myself to absolutely strict standards in terms of cybersecurity and doing things that are appropriate. I didn’t in this case. It’s a mistake, and it’s entirely my own.” Carted said.

The apology followed the The New York Times reporting that Carter conducted some official business on his personal email account.

During the Air & Space Conference and #TechnologyExposition held by the #AirForceAssociation in #NationalHarbor, #Maryland on Sep. 16, the #USSecretary of defense, #AshtonCarter, said #Washington was already moving ahead to prepare for a potential conflict with #China in the disputed #SouthChinaSea region, #Russia’s Tass news agency reports. Carter noted that China is turning submerged reefs into airfields and military bases through land reclamation to bolster its sovereignty claims in the region, where territory is claimed by several different parties. At the same time, he also said that it is time for the US to demand China slow down its militarization of the #Spratly islands while promoting new diplomacy to protects the rights and interests of all countries in the region. Carter went on to say that the US #AirForce was going to transfer “high-end assets” to the region as a means to counter #Chinese expansion. It is a part of the Obama administration’s “#Asia pivot” strategy, he said. “After all, turning an underwater rock into an airfield simply does not afford the rights of sovereignty or permit restrictions on international air or maritime transit,” he said.

"I don't know," The boy caressed an eight inch Zwilling Henckels with the palm of his open hand. "You tell me."

And yet, there were no words for this moment. Not even during the climax. He struggled with his bindings, but the rope was hot and rough like sandpaper. The boy drew in closer, the long, sleek blade protruding from behind his pressed fingers.
