By • Olalekan Fagbade He's a serial betrayer, the time to sanction Nyeson Wike has come – PDP Chieftain declares A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Director of Research and Documentation of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, Dr Pedro Obaseki, has declared that it is time to sanction former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. According to Obaseki, Wike is a serial betrayer who formed the group of five governors that committed series of anti-party activities against the PDP during the February 25 presidential election. Obaseki spoke in a statement released on Tuesday. The statement reads, “Wike coming out to ask for the expulsion of the number one leader of the party and the presidential flagbearer of the party and the recipient of the mandate of the Nigerian people as declared in INEC’s submission that we won 21 states and asking Atiku to be expelled from the party, Wike has crossed the red line and now, he should be ready. “He has all the money to fight us back because we are coming at him like a thousand bricks. “He has unleashed the dogs of war and we will not sit back and watch him ride rough over the party and majority of Nigerians like he did for eight years over the humility of the Rivers people. That can no longer suffice.” Obaseki also challenged Wike to publish his bank account when he assumed office as a governor and after his eight years tenure as the governor of Rivers state. Obaseki added, “Wike is a member of the APC, a sitting Minister of an APC government. Wike openly campaigned against the PDP. You see, by their fruits, we shall know them. By all intents and purposes, Wike is not a member of the PDP. “If you remember clearly, just a few months to the election, Barrister Nyesom Wike, then the governor of Rivers State ran to the court to get an injunction to preclude and stop the PDP from expelling him from the party. “If he was so untouchable and bigger than the entire party machinery, why did he do that? Whether we like it or not, Wike is Satan lieutenant. “Maybe that is what reduced the propensity of the leaders of the party to do the needful. And because many of them are doves-men of peace (not everyone is a hawk like Wike), let us see whether he would come around. PDP is not a party of brigands.” #Wijeisabetrayer

Shun rumours, I’m strong, Tinubu says on arrival from France

President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, returned to Nigeria after a 32-day vacation in three countries, following the conclusion of the 2023 presidential polls, saying he is strong and ready to hit the ground running. An energetic-looking Tinubu, whose jet touched down at about 4:30pm at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, arrived in company of his wife, Oluremi and son, Seyi, to a cheery welcome by his supporters, stalwarts and members of his ruling All Progressives Congress, APC including members of the now-dissolved Presidential Campaign Council, PCC. The visibly elated former governor of Lagos State urged Nigerians to forget rumours about his health. During the vacation, Tinubu was in London, Paris and Saudi Arabia where he observed the lesser Hajj. He was escorted from the airport by a carnival-like motorcade to his residence in Asokoro, even as thousands of supporters and journalists hung around his campaign headquarters in Abuja’s Central District and the Defence House in Maitama, the official residence of Nigeria’s President-elect. Tinubu had departed the country on March 22 on a three-country tour to rest, embark on international engagements and then observe the lesser Hajj. According to a statement from the Office of the President-elect, signed by Tunde Rahman, among those at the airport to receive him were Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, as well as Governors Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Abubakar Sani-Bello (Niger) and former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff. Also at the airport were former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; APC Deputy National Chairman, North, Senator Abubakar Kyari; Deputy National Chairman, South, Mr Emma Eneukwu; and National Woman Leader, Dr. Betta Edu. There were also Senators Barau Jibrin, Adeola Olamilekan, Opeyemi Bamidele, Dayo Adeyeye, Sabi Abdullahi and Adelere Oriolowo as well as secretary of the recently-dissolved Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. James Faleke. Mr. Babajimi Benson and Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Director of media and Publicity in the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Councilwere also there. I’ve rested, refreshed, ready for tasks ahead – Tinubu Addressing the crowd who followed him home, the President-elect said: “I am happy to be back. I have rested. I am refreshed and I am ready for the task ahead. Forget about what the rumour mill may have told you. I am strong, very strong.” Asked about about his plans for the country, he said he had been consulting and planning with a view to putting together a strong team so he could hit the ground running once he assumes office on May 29. Party leaders to meet soon on zoning of offices —Source With Tinubu’s return, party sources told Vanguard yesterday that the APC hierarchy, and stakeholders will meet soon to hammer out the issue of zoning of offices, especially that of the forthcoming 10th National Assembly. In the absence of Tinubu and zoning template, a horde of senators-elect and members-elect from the various zones of the country have been consulting, lobbying and campaigning to become Senate President, and House of Representatives Speaker, among others. Already, there are fears that the 2015 scenario when Senator Bukola Saraki emerged as Senate president, instead of Senator Ahmad Lawan, who was the choice of the APC leadership, could recur. In that era, Senator Ike Ekwereamdu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also emerged as Deputy Senate President. In the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara became speaker, instead of Femi Gbajabiamila. Last weekend, the members-elect from seven opposition parties vowed to snatch the House of Representatives speakership from the APC. While the opposition parties, collectively, have 182 seats, the APC has 178 slots. Senate President Ahmad Lawan, weekend, assured that the 2015 fiasco would not recur, adding that the opposition parties would not stop the APC from producing the leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives in the 10th NASS. According to him, the party leadership will do the needful and ensure its interest was protected. Indeed, a top APC source told Vanguard yesterday: “I am happy that Asiwaju is back. He has shamed those who were saying he would not come back or that he is very sick. ‘’You can see that he is hale and hearty and ready to lead Nigeria. Now that Asiwaju is back, APC leaders and stakeholders will meet soon and the question of zoning of offices will be answered. ‘’Asiwaju has told everyone that he is not interested in who becomes Senate president or speaker because it is a decision to be taken by the lawmakers themselves. ‘’However, he wants balance and inclusivity in the sharing of positions and I believe he will urge the party leaders to ensure these in the sharing of position.” Read the full article

The APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has dismissed the endorsement of the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing it as “worthless.” It said the APC candidate, Bola Tinubu, will not lose sleep over Mr Obasanjo’s action, because the former president is a “political paper weight” who had not successfully made anyone win election in…

I Would Have Put My Life On The Line For Osinbajo, Najatu Muhammad Speaks On APC Presidential Ticket
Barely 4 weeks to the 2023 Presidential elections, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Director of Civil Society in the Presidential Campaign Council of the party, Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad, has regretted APC’s decision to pick Sen. Bola Tinubu ahead of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as its candidate for the election.
Hajiya Muhammad who recently retired from party politics and resigned her position from the APC PCC, disclosed in an interview with The Whistler.
She said would have put her life on the line for Osinbajo if the ticket was given to him.
According to the Kano-born politician, “If you had given me Osinbajo, I swear I would have put my life on the line for Osinbajo, because he is a better person, he’s open, he’s proactive and he puts his eye on the ball and looks at Nigeria holistically.”
Extolling the leadership qualities of the VP as the basis of her choice, Hajiya Muhammad said “the few months that he (Osinbajo) was given the opportunity to act he changed things, so why should I be sentimental.”
She decried the decision of some leaders of the party and the South West region, to support Tinubu instead of of VP, noting that “Nigeria has become the personal property of some elites.”
She said, “If the Yorubas were serious why not give it to Osinbajo, who is a pastor, you are doing Muslim-Muslim. The holy prophet said a just atheist is better than an unjust Muslim. So, why do I care about Muslim-Muslim?”
“But they are busy not only galvanizing the polity but deceiving people, how Islamic are they? Somebody that could not even read Fatiha is calling himself a Muslim, without Fatiha you can’t pray, which means he has never prayed, what nonsense is that,” she added.
Speaking further, she said “I was in the campaign for Yola, and we had to beg them to take the mic from him, everything about Tinubu is based on lies. Imagine he is an Hausa man, will he contest elections with all these gbese on top of him? In this campaign nobody should talk of corruption because they are corruption personified.”
She added that besides Osinbajo, Peter Obi of the Labour Party would have been another good choice but blamed his (Obi’s) inexperience and lack of structure among others as factors that will work against.
The political and civil rights activist said she could no longer continue with the struggle for a better Nigeria under the platform of the proposed Tinubu presidency.

By • Olalekan Fagbade LP, NNPP, PDP clear air on merger plans A few days ago, report emerged that the presidential candidates of the leading opposition parties in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Labour Party, LP, and the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, are tinkering with forming a political alliance and possibly a merger to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress, APC. According to the said report, the trio of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso were meeting to discuss the possibility of a coalition to dislodge the APC in the 2027 election if, eventually, judgement on their petitions in court is given in favour of the ruling party. The report claimed that the three leaders have chosen to wait and watch the outcome of the election petitions in court, which would determine their next move. The report is coming less than six months after the February 25 presidential election in which President Bola Tinubu of the APC emerged as the eventual winner. Atiku and Obi came second and third, respectively, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The results of the final declaration by the INEC also put Kwankwaso of the NNPP in fourth place. DAILY POST recalls that Atiku and Obi are currently in court challenging the results, with judgement already reserved by the tribunal after the parties concluded their arguments and submitted their final written addresses. DAILY POST also reported that before the 2023 general election, the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku, had, in an interview with the BBC, given a hint of a possible alliance with the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso but it never happened. This was in addition to a failed talk over an alliance between Peter Obi (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP), on the other hand. Reacting to the report that he was in talks with Atiku and Kwankwaso for a possible merger to wrest power from the APC, Obi said his party was committed to building a better and a new Nigeria where they would move Nigeria from consumption to production. The former Anambra State governor spoke on Monday at LP’s mega rally in Edo State ahead of the State’s local government elections, reassuring supporters of his commitment to the party. He told hundreds of party supporters that some of the things they heard everywhere were rumours. “Labour Party will continue to grow. We will continue to get stronger (and) better. Half of the things you are hearing everywhere are rumours, don’t listen to them. “We are committed to building a better and a new Nigeria where we will move Nigeria from consumption to production,” Obi said to loud cheers from the crowd. Yunusa Tanko, one of the spokespersons for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP-PCC), also while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, described the rumoured merger between the PDP, NNPP and the LP as unattainable. Tanko added that discussions with political parties of like minds who believe in the party’s ideology and principles remain open, reiterating that there was no foreclosure on the matter, but that they have had discussions. “When you talk about merger, it means that political parties from different parts of the country submit their document to INEC, and then they will be pronounced as a new political party, which isn’t obtainable at the moment. “So, the merger is out of the question technically. But, when you talk about the discussion of the possible working alliance with the political party – very true, that is possible,” Tanko said. He, however, acknowledged that talks about a possible merger were ongoing even before the election but could not happen. When DAILY POST reached out to him through a phone call on Tuesday, Yunusa reiterated that an alliance is possible as he had earlier stated on national television. On his part, a former Nat
ional Chairman of the PDP, and ex-Governor of old Anambra State, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, told DAILY POST that the three parties (PDP, LP, NNPP) have realised they made a mistake. Nwodo believes that if the parties had remained together, they would have been able to beat APC hands down in a landslide victory.. He said, “Well, I don’t think there is talk of a merger, but I think the three parties have realised they made a mistake. If they had remained together, they would have been able to beat APC hands down. “It would have been a landslide victory for them. Therefore, it makes sense, if there is a rerun, for them to begin to think about how to cooperate. That is simple arithmetic.” The Spokesperson for the Forum of State Chairmen of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Dada Olayinka Olabode, also reacted to the report, dismissing it as a figment of the imagination of the discussants. In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday, Olabode acknowledged that the party had been inundated with reports on merger talks amongst the PDP, LP and NNPP. He, however, said that it would amount to a sell-out to think of a merger or alliance without proper consultation with the different organs of the party structure. Olabode noted that NNPP is a growing political party whose prospects have brightened with mass acceptability amongst Nigerians. The Forum of State Chairmen of the NNPP dissociated itself from what Olabode described as “the self-serving agenda of the arrowheads of such merger talks”. He insisted that the party has procedures which must be followed in arriving at such decisions and considerations. He said, “We have been inundated with recent reports in the media on merger talks amongst the PDP, LP and NNPP being orchestrated by former Presidential candidates of the three political parties. “First, we would like to dispel such rumours as a figment of the imagination of the discussants. “Our party, the New Nigeria People’s Party, is a national political party that contested elections at all levels in the just concluded 2023 general elections. “The results, as announced by INEC despite obvious infractions, put our party at number four amongst the eighteen registered political parties that contested elections into the various offices on performance rating. “Secondly, as a growing political party whose prospects brighten by the day with mass acceptability amongst Nigerians, it would amount to a sell-out to now think of a merger or alliance without proper consultation with the different organs of the party structure. “Thirdly, only gangsters will collaborate against the wishes of their party members in mooting an idea of a merger even when election petitions at various tribunals are yet to be dispensed with. It is, at best, a gang-up against the ruling government and an attempt to undermine the fragile peace, unity and sovereignty of Nigeria. “The Forum of State Chairmen of our party wishes to dissociate from the self-serving agenda of the arrowheads of such merger talks. “For us in NNPP, there are procedures to be followed in arriving at any of such decisions and considerations. “The involvement of Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso is nothing other than self pursuits laced with vengeful intent. We are not unaware of his desperate plans and will not allow any individual whose stake or claim to the Presidential seat has long been traded for ministerial consideration all for himself. “As Chairmen in our various states, it is a well-known fact that our disagreement with Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso centred on his avowed pursuit of self-interest against the desire of the party members who are daily consolidating on a membership drive and repositioning the party to democratically form a government through People’s mandate in subsequent elections. “May it be known to the proponents of the afterthought merger or alliance that nobody in NNPP has the exclusive right to negotiate on beha
lf of the party without the consent and permission of the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam. “Any discussion, therefore, suggesting the contrary is an attempt to pull the wool over People’s eyes. This forum will resist such. “Finally, we wish to remind the self-acclaimed leader of NNPP to tread with caution and warn the general public to be wary of nomadic politicians whose sole interest is to engineer a crisis in the political space of our nation. “Our focus at the moment as a party is to rebuild and weed out political traders from our great party. This we are committed to doing without any compromise.” Meanwhile, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has advised Peter Obi to join forces with President Bola Tinubu rather than his counterparts from the Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso, respectively. In a statement issued on Monday, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the alleged alliance would die on arrival because Nigerians would reject Kwankwaso or Atiku. Isiguzoro noted that “Nigerians know that the uncharitable disposition and desperation of Atiku Abubakar of the PDP will never allow him to support Peter Obi to be the leader of the Nigerian opposition.” He declared that “the ill-fated journey of Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso will crumble in the future” #LP #NNPP #PDP

PDP PCC rejects 2023 election results, claims ‘judiciary on trial’

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council (PDP PCC) has rejected the presidential results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Director, Planning and Strategy of the PDP PCC, Don Pedro Obaseki Gabe the position during a media chat in Abuja. He pointed out that given how blatantly the election was rigged, it was almost impossible for any serious country to take Nigeria seriously when it comes to democracy and the rule of law. Obaseki said, “We have gone through a round of the most dastardly skewed election in the history of this country, I don’t want to say since the return to democracy. “It is an accepted fact that this election was indeed brazenly rigged beyond all known ethics and ramifications. “However, what is a little bit disturbing in the media space particularly in the social media space, is that the election was stolen. But from whom was it stolen? “There must be a frontline, primary victim of the theft. The first-degree victim of that is my party and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. “Secondly, we are aware that in Nigeria since 1960 at independence and since we became a Republic in 1963, no court has upturned even the most brazen election before now. Read also:PDP to Nigerians: Pray for justice, we’ll recover Atiku’s presidential mandate “All those elections pales in comparison to what befell Nigerians in 2023.” The PDP Campaign Director went on to say that it is crucial to alert the Nigerian judiciary to the fact that the foundation of the country is at stake. As a result, whatever decision the Justices of the Supreme Court and everyone else involved in the process of adjudication in this electoral matter make must adhere to both the letter and the spirit of the constitution. He further said, “The onus lie upon them to look at both the spirt and letters of the law and the very marginalized feelings of every Nigerian and do what is right and correct in the public domain so as to save this country and the sanctity of our common wealth. “They must understand that the 2023 presidential election tribunal proceeding is not just the petitioner and the respondent that are on trial. It is the Nigerian judiciary that is on trial. “This is why I called my friends as those who are the fourth estate of the realm and those who must be the forebearers of the conscience of this country , so that we begin to talk and not be dwarfed in the noise of the theft or those who never even within the election result, and the real elections, not the ones that Mahmood Yakubu announced. “And the implications therefrom of the functions officio position that has been taken by Mahmood Yakubu in pronouncing the APC presidential flag bearer the winner of the election.” Read the full article
