Thanks for the tag @firawren & @glassslippers-n-cowboyboots
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 45
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 208,023. And that's a bit surprising because a bunch of my longer fics are only on AHA or my website.
3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Jane Austen, all novels, Elizabeth Gaskell (Wives & Daughters), and Anne Bronte (The Tenant of Wildfell Hall). I have also technically written Oscar Wilde and My Happy Marriage, but those were very transformative.
I also have written some fics based on Kdramas, mostly for Alchemy of Souls.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Ride to Netherfield - Jane breaks her leg on the way to Netherfield and must stay for a month. Short one-shot (6k) and the first Pride & Prejudice variation I wrote.
Of Every Elizabeth - short and sweet Pride & Prejudice fluff, Darcy has nicknames for the plethora of Elizabeth's he's met over the course of his life (it was a super common name at the time)
Carry Me! - three vignettes of Jang Uk and Cho Yeong from Alchemy of Souls after they are married
The Fourth Bennet Sister - long fic (30k words), Pride & Prejudice variation where Kitty Bennet becomes aware that she is in a novel. She desperately tries to protect her sisters from harm.
All's Fair in Love and War - short Pride & Prejudice variation. Mrs. Bennet has weaponized compromise, men live in constant fear of being forced to marry.
5. Do you respond to comments? Yep. Every time.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Umm.... I'm not good at writing angst. I don't like characters to suffer for too long.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? All of them?
8. Do you get hate on fics? Yes, because I dared to write Mr. Darcy marrying Anne Elliot. People get more angry about that for some reason than Elizabeth Bennet marrying Captain Wentworth in the same fic. Someone even told me Darcy would rather "throw himself off of Pemberley" rather than marry anyone other than Elizabeth. (Fic is called One Week Late)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have written smut a few times, it's pretty vanilla because I am pretty vanilla. I was reading Victorian erotica when I wrote my longest one, A Little Before Their Marriage (Jane & Bingley fic).
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I constantly write crossovers, my first published novel is a massive crossover, Prideful & Persuaded. One of my fun shorts is Fall on the Sword, where every canonically single woman in Austen's novels decides if they want to try for the recently divorced Mr. Rushworth.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, though someone did translate one of my meta posts from Tumblr. That was cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, The Marriage Contest with Branch Cloudsky and two with Amelia Marie Logan, Poor Caroline and Inferior Connections. All Pride & Prejudice fics, all funny. (You need an AO3 account for that one, the other two are on my personal website)
14. What’s your all time favourite ship? Catherine Morland & Henry Tilney. They are the only Austen couple I cannot bear to break up.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I am writing a queer retelling of Emma called "Different Ways of Being in Love", where Jane Fairfax and Emma were lovers as teenagers, Jane is bi, Emma is a lesbian, and Mr. Knightley is ace, but I got stuck on the middle part. Someday hopefully!
16. What are your writing strengths? I'm told I write some pretty hilarious farces. I am told I do characterization well, which is my main goal when writing fan fiction. I try to stick as close to canon as possible.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I don't write enough filler or develop things well enough. I like writing action.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I would possibly try my hand at French, but probably never. I also have a lot of trouble reading accented speech (looking at you Wuthering Heights), so I'd probably never write it.
19. First fandom you wrote for? I am fairly certain I started writing a fix-it fic for Nineteen Eighty-Four after I read it in high school. Not sure I would be able to locate it but it did exist. The first since I started writing again was a sequel to Pride & Prejudice.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Probably Unfairly Caught (my other published work) or The Fourth Bennet Sister. I NEEDED to write a Mansfield Park fic because I hate the ending, so it fixed my dissatisfied feelings. My goal is to edit The Fourth Bennet Sister and get it published sometime this year.

Fanfic Writer Questions!
Thanks for the tag, @fazedlight and @thatonebirdwrites
1- How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 16
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
356,960
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Supergirl – Arrowverse/ DC Comics: Primarily Supercorp, secondarily Dansen, Brainia, and J’M’zz, and I have one AgentReign with secondary Supercorp.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
PRIDE and Prejudice – Super gay retelling of Jane Austen’s classic. Every kudos equals $1.00US to a LGBTQIA2S charity I make at the conclusion of Pride month (June) each year (teen)
Tell Me It’s Not Too Late – Post-S4, Lillian believes Supergirl is responsible for Lex’s death. Lena rushes to J’onn’s for game night, to confront Kara on her identity, only to find she’s nowhere to be found (teen)
I Believe in a Thing Called Love – Full alternate Season 6 rewrite (teen)
Wouldn’t It Be Nice – 50 First Dates movie AU (teen)
How Lost We Are – Lena is placed by her Witness Protection team (Maggie, Kelly, and Lucy) in Midvale as a flower shop owner where she meets teacher Kara and coffee/bookshop owner Jess, among others (mature)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes, I do usually respond, though not always right away. I enjoy chatting about my fics, so don’t hesitate to ask questions, but I don’t give out spoilers though.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
When She’s Gone, the Darkness Comes – Oof. It was so sad I had to write a second chapter. I much prefer happy endings (teen)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of them have a happy ending of some kind, or they will once they’re completed. Though there are some with happy endings like Speak Now and Tis the Damn Season. Smut. I’m talking about smut (explicit)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Yeah, though I’ve been mostly lucky. I don’t know why people leave hate on any fics really. If you don’t like something, close the tab.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. It started as a small scene here or there when it was a natural progression of the fic, but now I occasionally right full smut fics and pwp like those found here (explicit)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Kind of, but the characters are all from within the Arrowverse/ DC Comics universes somewhere.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I don't understand why someone would do this. Please respect writers.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is also in Spanish Creo en una cosa llamada amor (teen)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I’m currently working on one with @thatonebirdwrites, though it's not published. It’s a Supercorp fic where Kara is a building inspector and when she goes to inspect Lena’s home, she meets Lena’s daughter to tells her the floor is lava, so naturally Kara has to ensure that issue gets resolved.
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Supercorp. But I do love most wlw ships
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I intent to finish all of my active WIPs. I have some WIP ideas that may or may not ever get going, but once I start a fic, I intend to finish it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I have no idea… I guess easter egg type stuff or like blending canon into storylines. If your a reader and there's something you think is a strength I have, let me know.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually writing. Words be hard. And it's hard to find the time.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I do it sometimes, probably not well. I like to include the translation in the fic (unless the characters themselves aren’t supposed to understand until later). But I'm sure the translations aren't fully right as I only use google translate and the Kryptonian dictionary.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Supercorp. I started writing fiction in Dec 2020. Before that it was all scientific research papers for uni.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
I suppose What Has Been Lost (Mature). It was what started this crazy adventure, has been the most challenging piece, and my longest (still ongoing). It truly blends lore and characters from across the Arrowverse and DC Comics into a human world and original storyline.

A Man of Good Fortune
A Man of Good Fortune https://ift.tt/nYeTkq7 by magdoll24 Draco Malfoy is everything Hermione Granger despises—wealthy, privileged, and entirely too proud. To her, he’s just another pureblood with a cold heart. But the more their lives intertwine, the harder it becomes for Hermione to ignore the pull between them. Beneath Draco’s icy exterior lies a man torn between duty and desire, and no matter how hard she tries, Hermione can’t resist the fire he sparks in her. For Draco, falling for Hermione is as inevitable as it is dangerous. She challenges everything he’s been raised to believe, yet she’s the only one who sees the man behind the Malfoy name. In a world where pride and prejudice threaten to keep them apart, Draco must prove that love is the greatest fortune of all—if only Hermione will let herself believe it. 20 Questions for fic writers
I've been tagged by @firawren @glassslippers-n-cowboyboots and @bethanydelleman
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 149, apparently. Bear in mind, most of these are very, very short, including 3 rounds now of the February Ficlet Challenge.
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 297,078
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Frozen is the big one, also Tangled, various Jane Austen fandoms (mostly Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey), as well as Downton Abbey.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Means of Uniting Them (Pride and Prejudice)
Have You Heard? (Pride and Prejudice, something of a "prequel" to The Means of Uniting Them)
The Young Diplomat (Frozen/Tangled crossover)
Mrs. Darcy and Her Sister (Pride and Prejudice, Darcy/Jane, Bingley/Elizabeth)
What If... (Frozen canon divergence drabble collection)
5. Do you respond to comments? I do, even if it literally takes a year or two.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I suppose "Have You Heard?", at least of my works that have more readers than I have fingers and toes... (a few of my OC drabble collections are pretty angsty, but almost nobody reads those...)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Happiest? I don't know. I haven't published most of my darker stuff, so nothing ends too badly. I suppose some of them might be a bit bittersweet.
8. Do you get hate on fics? I got some on the Darcy/Jane ficlet.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I've written a bit, and "vanilla" would probably describe it.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I write a lot of crossovers. As far as the craziest, I suppose the Elsa/Darcy one...?
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? One to German and one to Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I've never tried.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship? Anna/Kristoff
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Probably one of them that I haven't started posting outside of some drabbles and ficlets. Maybe I'll get around to some of them eventually. (My WWII Downton Abbey post-canon AU is probably the one I'd love to actually write a proper longfic for.)
16. What are your writing strengths? I've gotten compliments on my dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Feelings? That's where I feel weakest, anyway.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? A lot of my dialogue can be assumed to be translated from another language, but aside from a few words I never write dialogue in another language.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Frozen
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? The Young Diplomat, being the beginning of all the plot and characters that spend the most time living rent-free in my head, probably deserves this distinction.

may i ask here for fic recs from you? any ship, any tags. i do trust your judgment very much and dearly love everything that you write. it's so difficult to find something that captures me as intensely as your art does :'( if it's too much of a hassle to share, maybe a top 5? or if you have answered this before already, pardon me and ignore all of this. thank you nevertheless and bye <3
a top 5 fics is really hard, i do read a lot. i've shared many mh recs in the past so i won't share them again but i can share same that i really liked from other fandoms. in no particolar order btw
Prevenient by bazooka (only available to people with registered ao3 accounts) and in general all their ancient bakery au: the fandom is seungkyunkwan scandal but you don't need to know much about that to understand the story since it's an au. it's a three parts story and i think in total it'll be like 150k? maybe more? but written so well it makes me cry
(after a while) you learn by curledupkitten (kittebasu): it's an exo fic and again the pairing or whether you know them or like them doesn't matter, it could easily be an original. it's one of the fics that inspired me the most when writing modern aus because i want my characters to be seen and understood the way they made me understand theirs
anything written by dirgewithoutmusic on ao3: they most write short works and they have a lot of different fandoms like marvel, narnia, hp, lotr... i love their voice. the way they say things when writing makes me want to listen forever. they have also written an original fantasy book series which i have read and really liked, but they tend to stay on the short side on ao3.
A hit, a very palpable hit by Shem: the fandom is Pride and Prejudice, the main ship is Kitty/OC, and boy I never say I have favorite books or movies but I think P&P is my favorite book and I love every variation of it but it's hard to read fics because the writers can rarely reproduce the genius of Jane Austen's words and her wittiness and everything that makes me love the books, but Shem does it right. I've read everything by this author but this is my favorite of their works. Not recommended if you aren't into P&P tho ahah
Sansûkh by determamfidd: fandom is LOTR, and like above, if you like LOTR you will love this fic.
Random extra rec:
i could whet your appetite by beizhaan: fandom is MDZS, it's a alpha/incubus au and tbh I could've put a lot of fics here but since I was really unsure I was looking at my bookmarks and this piece stood up because the s3x was good ahah so I included it.
I would've included more het fic recs because I do read them, but most of them would've been hp fics and I'm not actively reccing hp anymore to boycott jkr
Hope this gave you some food, I tried to keep the recs diverse since idk which fandoms you could be into but idk if they're as interesting for other people as they are for me :v

20 Questions for Fic Writers
thanks for the tag @a-noble-dragon
How many works do you have on ao3?
78
What’s your total ao3 word count?
934,082
What fandoms do you write for?
White Collar, The Good Place, Supernatural, Discworld, Doctor Who, Leverage, Psych, Murderbot Diaries, Jane Austen novels, and more
Top five fics by kudos:
1 Caffrey Conversation
2 Choirboy Caffrey
3 By the Book
4 Bouquet
5 Caffrey Envoy
Do you respond to comments?
I try to. I think I keep up on AO3, but the email issues on FF have been a trial.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh, that's tough. I don't tend to end with angst. I'd say probably:
The Late Ambassador Spock
Do you get hate on fics?
There have been a few negative comments, but I don't recall any that were outright hate
Do you write smut?
Nope
Wildest crossover:
There have been some interesting combinations when I've written crossovers for exchanges. One that jumps to mind is:
Universal Truths of Time Travel - A Doctor Who and Pride & Prejudice crossover
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No, I don't think so
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Maybe? Someone reached out to ask permission and I agreed but they never got back to me with a link
Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Sort of? I wrote an epilogue to one of Silbrith's stories:
Dawn of the Jackalopes
All time favorite ship?
Oh, that's tough. In terms of writing, my favorite romantic ship has been Neal Caffrey & Sara Ellis of White Collar, and my favorite friendship has been Neal & Peter. In terms of being the audience, I adore Murderbot and its friends, especially Murderbot and ART.
What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Once I started outlining something I called Operation Athena, which was a retelling of one of my Caffrey Conversation stories from the POV of the women. It sounds fun, but I don't know when I'd find the time to write it.
What are your writing strengths?
Why do I go blank on this type of question? I remember getting positive comments about the way the plot threads intertwine and reappear in the Caffrey Conversation series, so let's go with that
What are your writing weaknesses?
At the moment, it's staying focused long enough to make progress.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Once in a fandom charity auction I won the services of someone who speaks French, and that resulted in lines in French in By the Book. Otherwise I'm always too worried about making mistakes.
First fandom you wrote in?
The first one I wrote down was a birthday present for a friend based on the musical Annie. The first I published was in White Collar.
Favorite fic you’ve written?
Oh, how do I chose? Caffrey Conversation is dear to my heart as the first one I published.
Open tag to my fic writing friends! I'd love to see your answers

In this chapter, Merrill, Tamlen and Mahariel go on tour... and decide to stop by Lothering after all. Huge thanks to @storybookhawke for this lovely art – original artwork post (without text) is here.
Title: A Chance Engagement Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Chapters: 57/? Pairings: Eventual Carver/Merrill, background F!Mahariel/Tamlen and F!Hawke/Isabela; other pairings not revealed yet Other characters: Marian Hawke, Bethany Hawke, Leandra Hawke, Isabela, Tamlen, Fenarel, Female Mahariel, Keeper Marethari, Sabrae Clan, Arishok, Pol, Dragon Age: Redemption Characters (Chapters 51 to 53) Other tags: Alternative Universe – Regency, Pride & Prejudice References, Bethany and Carver Hawke Live, Pride & Prejudice AU, Fluff and Humour, Ballroom Dancing, Secret Relationships, Comedy of Errors, Jane Austen References, Pining, Rejected Marriage Proposals Summary: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, Lady Leandra Amell tried to impress upon her three children, that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife. However she hoped this wisdom would be received by her offspring, Lady Amell was dismayed to find that it had not had the effect she intended.” Regency AU. When Miss Merrill attends the Kirkwall public assembly ball, the last man she expects to engage in a dance is Carver Hawke – a single man who has just come into possession of a large fortune. This chance meeting, however, sets them both on a path they never expected. READ FROM THE BEGINNING ON ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN
———
The weeks passed away quickly; and the period of Merrill’s much-anticipated travels arrived. The night before, Merrill had been so excited she thought she would not sleep; and on the morning itself she flitted about so happily and exuberantly, that Keeper Marethari could not temper her high spirits if she tried. Merrill believed that even Tamlen and Mahariel were not as happy as she was, even though they themselves were clearly excited and cheerful that morning, given they were setting off in pursuit of novelty and amusement with her.
Tamlen himself was in such good humour that he even agreed to accompany Merrill and Mahariel in calling on the Hawke sisters before they went – although he insisted that their visit was as brief as possible, for he wanted to cross the Waking Sea and reach Ferelden well before nightfall – and this they did, although Miss Bethany was out again with her mother, and they found Miss Hawke all alone and writing a letter.
‘Bethany will be so disappointed to have missed you,’ Miss Hawke told them, as she folded up her letter to seal it, ‘but I am thankful you decided to take leave of us before you depart for the countryside. And it is an honour, Mr Sabrae,’ she continued politely to Tamlen, ‘that you decided to accompany your wife and cousin. I bid you all safe travels and adieu, and look forward to hearing all about them when you eventually return to Kirkwall.’
‘I will miss you!’ Merrill cried as she hugged her friend, taking Miss Hawke so much by surprise that the latter dropped the folded letter she had been holding. ‘Oh! I am so sorry, Miss Hawke – let me get that for you—’ and here Merrill bent down to pick up the parchment that had floated to the floor; Miss Hawke had bent down for it too; but, in her nervousness at having done something wrong again, Merrill was quicker.
As she picked up the sheet of paper, which was full with Miss Hawke’s handwriting, Merrill caught sight of the words:
I will submit to any thing you may command me—but cease to respect, to love and adore you, I never can or will.

AO3 Tagging Game
I got tagged by @wurzelbertzwerg (danke). My Q&A (or Q/A, ha):
1. What rating do you write most of your fics under?
General, with Teen in a very close second place. I started posting on another site that stressed family-friendliness as they didn't slap a rating on things so my formative writing was G or T and I mostly stay with that. And now that I have teens, my opinion on T versus M has shifted to give the reader the benefit of the doubt.
2. What are your top three fandoms?
I have 10 fics in Good Omens, 9 in Northanger Abbey, and 4 in Pride and Prejudice. ("Jane Austen" as an amorphous blob of works has 22 total, but I don't consider that a single fandom.)
3. What is the top character you write about?
Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens. A number of my Jane Austen fics are not focused on the main pair while all of my Good Omens fics are focused on the main ship.
4. What are the top three pairings you write about?
Let's say it's important to differentiate between "/" and "&", because some of my GO fics are & and some are a family-friendly / and some start as & and convert into /, so my top 3 pairings are Aziraphale & Crowley, Catherine Morland / Henry Tilney, and Aziraphale / Crowley.
5. What are the top three additional tags?
Alternate Universe - Modern Setting : because I write a lot in a modern timeline (write what you know, they say).
JAOctGoHoNo Challenge : because I write a Jane Austen one shot for Halloween every year.
Christmas (or Songfic or Song Parody) : because I try to rewrite a Christmas carol to fit a scene (or similar) from something from Jane Austen.
6. Did any of this surprise you?
Not a big surprise, but it reminds me that I have about 20 other stories that aren't on AO3 and I want to keep slowly adding my back catalog to it.
And as a potential eyeopener, as much as I have & and / with the main Good Omens ship, I consider my Northanger Abbey fics to be all / for the main ship. Yes, I have & between one of the mains and other characters but I don't see or tag the & for the main ship. Is that heteronormative blindness or what?
Tagging @theartofdreaming1 to keep it going, and whoever else wants to jump in 😺

I was tagged by @wurzelbertzwerg – thank you for the chance to ramble about my fics! <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
47.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
168,990.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently, mainly the Jane Austen fandom (particularly Pride and Prejudice and Emma).
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
In (not so silent) indignation (Pride and Prejudice): Mr Collins times his visit to Longbourn a few weeks earlier, altering the events of the Meryton assembly.
A Timely Intervention (Pride and Prejudice): When an attempt to evade Mr Collins’s proposal puts Elizabeth in an uncomfortable predicament, Mr Darcy’s appearance on the scene obliges her to re-evaluate his character.
Misconduct and Misdirection (Pride and Prejudice): Mr Gardiner’s business obligations are resolved more favourably than in canon, and Elizabeth’s trip to the Lakes goes ahead as planned. When the news of Lydia’s elopement arrives, a longer journey back allows time for recollections and realisations. Meanwhile, the rumours about a Miss Bennet’s elopement have spread as far as Derbyshire...
Blossoming Affection (Pride and Prejudice): It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young man afflicted by the lovers’ disease must be in want of a handkerchief. (A light-hearted Hanahaki AU.)
A Very Good Scheme (Emma): When leaving the Christmas party at Randalls, Emma recruits Mr Knightley’s help to avoid a tête-a-tête with Mr Elton. As a consequence, the events of the following weeks unfold rather differently than in canon.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I love getting comments and always reply. The only exception is when someone reads through one of my finished multi-chapters and comments on every chapter. In that case, I just reply to one or a few so I don’t spam the commenter’s inbox with a dozen “Thank you!” messages.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably A murderer’s hands, which is just an angst fest overall.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics have at least moderately happy endings, but I think A Timely Intervention takes the prize. It has a happy ending for the protagonists, the antagonists suffer nothing worse than a slight romantic disappointment, and significant angsty canon events are avoided.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven’t received any so far, and I hope it stays that way. I’ve kind of braced myself for negative comments with certain Jane Austen fics featuring non-canon ships, but fortunately the haters have left them alone.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not very often, but when I do, it’s not very explicit and usually either bittersweet or very humorous.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Occasionally. Sadly, I haven’t written any particularly crazy ones, but I do think that my two-part Sense and Self-Interest series is pretty fun!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I know. I think the Amazon fic thieves in the Austen fandom generally target novel-length fics. My stories tend to be on the shorter side, so maybe that has helped keep them safe.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! The Family Business, Rowan flower and Much Cause for Contentment have all been translated into Russian. The translator of The Family Business even added some helpful translator’s notes explaining various Finnish and Nordic cultural references, so they really went the extra mile!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
A friend and I once played around with ideas for a coffee-shop AU of the film Halloween 6, but it never progressed beyond a few unposted snippets.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Such a tough question! The first ship that I really became obsessed with was Lalli Hotakainen/Emil Västerström, and I’ve also read lots and lots of Yuuri Katsuki/Viktor Nikiforov and Eric Bittle/Jack Zimmerman fic. Lately, my two big obsessions have been Emma Woodhouse/George Knightley and Aral Vorkosigan/Cordelia Naismith. However, if I have to pick just one, I think I’d have to say Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy because I’ve been into it for such a long time and it’s inspired so many of my fics.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My “Kitty thinks Darcy is evil” AU, a very silly post-canon Pride and Prejudice fic. Other plot bunnies always seem to take precedence over it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I’m pretty good at characterization, humour and Austen pastiche.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Actually getting anything written. I’m a procrastinator and a bit of a perfectionist, which is a terrible combination. My writing progress tends to be very slow.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It can work well (and be a fun Easter egg for multilingual readers) if done in a way that makes sense. Otherwise it’s just annoying and confusing for the reader. In my opinion, it can be a good way to signal that other characters are speaking a language that the point-of-view character doesn’t understand, but just a few words are usually enough. After that, it’s better to just specify in the narration that “the angry little girl in red and the white, furry hippopotamus continued to squabble in their peculiar language while Mr Darcy looked on in puzzlement” (or whatever is appropriate to the story and the situation). I included the occasional word in Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian or Icelandic in my old Stand Still, Stay Silent fics, but never anything that the reader really needed to understand.
Also, a plea to anyone who’s reading this: please, please don’t machine translate dialogue into a language that you don’t know and slap it in your fic. You have no way of knowing if the output is correct and/or sounds natural. I’ve seen this done with Finnish and Swedish, and it was such a pet peeve of mine because the “translations” were usually terrible.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Stand Still, Stay Silent.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
This is also a tough question because I’m unashamedly proud of all of them. But if I had to pick just one, maybe A Very Good Scheme. I feel that the premise is really fun and that I managed to tell the story in an entertaining way. I’m just really happy with the way it turned out.
I will tag @storytilly (if you are so inclined) and anyone else who sees this and wants to play.

Bran I Update
No progress today yet, so the chapter won’t be up tonight. We will see if I get a second wind after dinner, or I might try to write in a frenzy tomorrow morning.
In other news, I spent the last few days finishing my rereads of Sense and Sensibility and Emma :/ all of them have delightful social commentary and some incredibly sharp prose, but I definitely still prefer Pride and Prejudice of the three.
Sense and Sensibility feels far less polished than the other two, and Edward/Elinor lacks the substance and compelling warmth of the friendship between Elinor and Colonel Brandon. I mayyy have read the entire Elinor/Brandon tag on Ao3, small as it was, and come away wanting more. Meanwhile, while Brandon’s character is lovely and his pining is sweet if you don’t think too much about the age gap, Marianne/Brandon is such an after thought, with any romance and meeting of the minds left to the hazy few sentences of the epilogue.
Emma, while overall better written than Sense and Sensibility, I somehow like less. Knightley/Emma is a better ship than any of those in Sense and Sensibility, but I like the side cast of Sense and Sensibility far better. I will also admit to having a stronger preference for Elinor as a heroine then for Emma, although I do find Emma sympathetic and appreciate her growth.
I’ve never read Jane Austen’s other works; maybe I’ll check them out once I’ve got Bran I wrapped up 🤔

But seeing his bedroom makes her imagine what will soon be happening in that room, in that bed, leaving her more than a little flustered. When she discovers that Darcy has similar thoughts, their shared passion overtakes them.

While looking for fan fiction of Pride and Prejudice, I came across this series on AO3 and thought it would be interesting to read and write about. From reading the blurbs for various fan fiction series, I got the impression that the most common means of “transformation” that fanfic writers perform is placing Austen’s characters in different settings. Of course, there are those who use the setting to play around with new characters or changing up the fundamental traits of existing ones, but I think it really is a testament to Austen’s skill in writing compelling people that budding writers want to extract out Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from the 19th Century and drop them down in different periods and places. In From Among the Stars, Elizabeth and Darcy are academics in Britain, in an alternative Universe where they are sent as researchers to investigate a UFO. Elizabeth maintains much of her key traits, like her wit and dangerous honesty, but there are some major differences too. The relationship between Darcy and her is fairly platonic in this story based on the first few chapters, contrasting the ever-present tension that we observe in most of Pride and Prejudice. However, one of the tags on the series is “Eventual Romance”, so ostensibly they will come to fall in love at some point. This is a pretty large change since the events and drama of Pride and Prejudice primarily hinges on the enmity (and concealed attraction) between Darcy and Elizabeth. I think this really speaks to the more “base” and “low” draw of fanfiction, in that it acts as a sort of wish-fulfillment for both the writer and the reader (I am not particularly well-versed in fanfiction, but even I know of the infamous One Direction fanfic). It may be the case that the author is much fonder of the “friends-to-lovers” trope than the classic “enemies-to-lovers” of Pride and Prejudice. I believe this change is also a practical decision, when a story is plot-driven, like this one, it is more convenient to develop a romance from friendship than animosity.
