mainly inspired by a plot idea that’s been eating at my brain for the last month or so~ feel free to take the idea in whatever direction you please!

anon, my dear, i won't lie to you. for a split second i actually, genuinely thought that "Nibelung" was a really janky spelling of Neuvillette i'm so sorry

it's cold and dark and claustrophobic in the Abyss, and you hate it. hate it and everything around you, especially that horrible sneering god and the rest of your kind. what once was a proud race of dragons now reduced to just a few including yourself, and yet they still had not a single thought towards the rest of the world. admittedly, you can't even say that the Abyss is a particularly bad place to be right now, with the land above equally as devastated. it's still awful, and you despise the whispers that crawl up your spine and the craggy vines that threaten to entangle you, but there's some semblance of life in the air engulfing your torn wings and battered scales. the ancient blood running through your veins keeps the worst of the Abyss at bay, and you can do nothing but sit and slowly pick at your injuries, everything aching in this diminished form

there's something watching you. something quiet and hidden in the shadows. your ears flick, a soft growl slipping from your throat, and the presence flinches in the dark. slow footsteps tentatively draw near, a crimson mask following suit as an Abyssal monster emerges from the gloom, tilting its head slightly. immediately you hiss, baring your teeth and claws. it jumps back with a yelp, whining pitifully as the beast slowly lowers itself to the ground, trying to seem unintimidating. you growl again as it inches closer, but the sound is quiet and pained. the creature finally sits at your feet, crouching low and looking up at you quietly before reaching out and gingerly placing something on your knee- a length of sturdy plant fiber. it sits back on its haunches again, watching you intently with a single crystalline eye until you struggle and wrap it around the worst gashes on your body

it purrs, and for a moment you almost purr too

he calls himself Foul Legacy, you find after deciphering his rumbling, chirping language, and he's a scion of the Abyss just as you are of the world above. Foul Legacy follows you determinedly no matter how many times you tell him to leave, whimpering and fussing over your wounds and trying to protect you while your power is depleted... or chasing your tail around as it whips back and forth, tapping his talons gently against your scales and fawning over your slit pupils and pointed ears. gradually he leads you up, pushing you forward towards that distant drop of sunlight and sleeping curled around you during your exhaustion, his glimmering wings draped over yours. you need the open sky, and he's always wanted to see the real stars, his dream now including you in his company whenever he imagines it. so he takes you there, guiding you out of the darkness and back to where you belong

you still hate the Abyss. but perhaps you don't hate everything in it, anymore

At first it's funny, sure, even Zack will admit that. But over time he starts to wonder—is that really how his friends see him? As some inattentive, dumb kid incapable of responding to verbal cues?

He starts to reminisce on the past weeks. He has been overly forgetful lately, and maybe he did space out during that Kalm mission and forget to bring his materia entirely, but that doesn't mean he's stupid.

Angeal jingles the keys once more to grab Zack's attention, and this time the cacophony of the metal corrodes his eardrums and makes him want to rip his own head off.

Genesis snaps his fingers again, and Zack finds himself fighting back the urge to break them.

Cloud whistles. Zack just looks at him, a silent plea to tell him why he does this, why he can't just use his name. He wants to shake his best friend and tell him that "He's here, he's coherent, and that sometimes he just spaces out."

Sephiroth uses the squeaky toy one last time. Zack flies at him, unable to control the wave of fury that washes over him. He screams, the pent-up emotion bubbling out of him in ugly screeches as he knocks the toy out of Sephiroth's hand.

He pins the older man to the wall, feeling his fingers dig into Sephiroth's skin as the wall cracks beneath him. It's the first time Zack has ever seen Sephiroth look stunned—scared, even. As for Sephiroth, it's the first time he's seen Zack cry.

Tears spill from his blood-shot eyes.

"ZACK!" He yells at him. "JUST SAY ZACK!" He chokes. "I'M NOT A DOG, SEPHIROTH!"

Sephiroth only manages a weak nod as he forces his own mouth shut.

Love your coloring and art style 💖 can I ask you a question how you get better at drawing? I'm new (year 2) and struggling with digital art off and on. It's only been two years I'm drawing digitally but I just want to draw better. Like even better. If you have advice or tips, that's awesome. Hopefully it doesn't come off the wrong way. not me forgetting that I had asks on 😭 if you're still interested, here's the (extremely) late response (again, super sorry 😭)

In terms of coloring, there isn't a lot I can say (being a learner as well), but I think seeing how others color can be really interesting! Do they use reddish hues or blueish hues for shades? Or do they use both? I personally use a slightly desaturated salmon pink-ish color with a low opacity (also desaturated) sky-blue. It can help to try out a variety and finding what works for you!

example: (this is an old piece of mine and I used red and blue as my tools for shading)

The same can be said for base colors. For those, I recommend color-studies and seeing how relative colors can influence how you perceive the entire piece. Rather than focus on the colors as separate entities (blue as blue, yellow as yellow), it's really helpful to instead look at it instead as something meant to intermingle with (if that makes any sense 🥲).

In a blue-prevalent piece, straight-up grey might look reddish or even pink. In a purple piece, the skin-tone might look like light-magenta than a peachy color. Yet, when you look at the piece as a whole, it definitely looks like a skin-tone.

example: you can tell that the skin looks like a skin tone, but when you actually pull it out and look at it in comparison to a peachy tone, it's purple! And this is because of the idea of relative colors. Against a white background, a color might seem saturated and dark, but against a dark background, the same color might seem super light.

For lineart (if you do them at all), it might help to experiment with brushes and thickness of lines! Do you prefer boxy lines? Smooth lines? Thick or thin lines? It might seem redundant, but you'll eventually find yourself a style that fits you the best, even if it doesn't seem that way ^^

Another tip I have is that if you have a bunch of artists you really like (whether that be their composition, style, coloring, etc), examine what exactly you like about them and try to imitate it and see how well it works for you! If it doesn't, then that's fine, but if it does, then thats even better!

If you have artist mutuals, do the 'friends' artstyle challenge'! You might learn something interesting that might take your fancy and at the worst, you'll just have more experience under your belt when it comes to style :D

Though it may seem like everyone's saying this and it feels of little use, studies (whether that be pose or coloring) will help a lot! Also, try tracing over those free dynamic pose photos if you want to improve in the aspect of anatomy! Try see where limbs are placed and how they work. It's sort of like seeing the answers to a math question: once you know the answer, you can work backwards to see how to get it :D

Sorry for the delay and super sorry if this isn't of any help at all 😭 Honestly, I don't really know how to do the stuff I do at all, either. Half of the time, I'm just winging it and tweaking stuff until it looks decent, but I hope this helped!

i'll say upfront: this is a pretty serious thing to happen. our chancellor fired our minister of finance, Lindner, which definitively breaks up the governing coalition. germany will likely have snap elections at a moment in which far-right parties are polling extremely well. if news coverage about it seems like people are Worried, that's because, well, they are.

however. the reason it's funny is because our minister of finance was fired. ministers aren't really... ever fired. like, it's not a done thing. i'll fully admit i didn't even know it was an option until yesterday. and our minister of finance wasn't just anyone, he was one of the most mocked and hated figures in politics to germans who vote anywhere left of center.

the coalition that governed until yesterday was made up of the green party, the social democrats, and the neoliberal party (FDP). the FDP is infamous (and i mean, my parents already raised me to hate them for that) for playing kingmaker in coalition governments: they never get all that many votes, but they get just enough that whoever they agree to form a government with will probably succeed. they then tend to force extreme concessions from their coalition partners, because hey, if we walk off, you can't govern at all! so you better play along!

for the past three years, this behaviour has been extremely frustrating for germans who voted for greens or social democrats, because policy from their faction was constantly being blocked by the FDP and often by Lindner personally. the FDP received 11,5% of votes in 2021, but to many of us, it felt as if they were the only party who really had any say in the governing coalition. it made the green and social democratic coalition partners look spineless and passive.

and now, i invite you to imagine how on the day of the US election results, the day the whole world rolled their eyes at the sheer fucking stupidity and pointlessness of it all, at NINE IN THE EVENING, just as germans are getting ready to settle in to bed to dream of nightmare global politics -

the news suddenly breaks that our notoriously invisible chancellor just decided to fire Lindner for that exact behaviour. this chancellor comes out and says, on camera, to the entire sleepy nation, that acting the way Lindner did - blocking necessary policies, refusing to approve budgets unless his party's interests were met - was childish, selfish, irresponsible, and unfit for government, so, whoops, he had to go. shame. coalition over, i guess.

so, politically, that was a long-needed but never-expected moment of triumph for those of us who think the FDP is a clown show made up of human TESLA shares, and it came at a hysterically funny moment.

on a personal level, i can barely explain how uniquely hateable Lindner has always been. he's what would happen if a stock index graph came to life. he hates poor people with a relish; he mocks welfare recipients and would ax minimum wages in a second. he's everyone's business major roommate who shows up in boat shoes fresh off a yacht to discuss NFTs with you. throughout the entire time that he's used his rich boy policy blackmail strategy, he's been smug about it, and he was never taken to task for it, and millions of germans have been longing to throw rotten fruit in his face since 2017. and now we finally get to do it. via memes. on the day of trump's election win.

so that's why it's funny.
