I guess I don't really care if the Fallout series on Amazon presents a different take on the canon, but I do care if they fuck up the themes about capitalism and nationalism, and I care about this
#the producers of GoT fundamentally misunderstood what made the red wedding and moments like it work#they didn’t work solely because they were shocking#they worked because they were simultaneously shocking#while also being the very logical narrative consequences of past decisions and worldbuilding#R+L=J didn’t work because it was a Big Twist or because Jon needed to be a Magic Special Boy#it worked because it made a bunch of other things that had previously been strange fall into place#(namely how to reconcile Ned’s whole Thing with him having a bastard)#(or how to reconcile the generally positive consensus about Rhaegar being a good guy with him abducting some poor girl)#Cersei and the wildfire worked because the seeds had been planted well beforehand#ie the seeds of her being willing to burn things to the ground#the seeds of having all that wildfire stashed away in the first place#AND narratively the seeds of Jaime’s whole arc being based around trying to do the right thing to stop the Mad King#who wanted to burn them all#(incidentally the producers totally dropped that last part in season 8)
