The Writer of Thunder // Thor x Reader

Word Count: 1423

There was so much effort and work into writing. You couldn't come up with what to write. You had hit stalemate in your writing. You had no inspiration whatsoever. That's when you decided to go to New Asgard for a vacation. You had heard a friend talk about the beautiful architecture. You had also heard that this place was beautiful beyond belief and you could tell that it was in a simpler time than the rest of the world. You had spent days on the shores and looking through old ruins, the forests, and monuments of the town trying to get inspired. It was beautiful as you had heard. Yes. But, it was a speechless, rustic kind of beauty. You relaxed on a rock near a pier where boats were in the marina. You still didn't know what to write though. At least, it was a good trip. Too bad you had to leave in a day without the story you so craved. You huffed an exasperated sigh.

You glanced up and saw a silhouette of a man on a high cliff and you began your hike up to the hills to see what the person was up to around mid-afternoon.

Thor, our Thunder God off on the side of the cliffs of Asgard, was looking off at the sea's horizon as the sun began to set, having sat there since noon. He sat with his legs hanging off a rocky cliff overlooking the fjord. The skies began to change from oranges to yellows with blotches of magenta pink clouds occasionally flowing across the view. Thor was in charge of Asgard, basically, now, with his father not around. This was Thor's home. It was his shelter. A place he would go to play with the sky and it's darkness and brightness with his lightning bolts. He would rarely leave his magnificent land. It was his favorite place to be. To him it wasn't just a vacation. He had always been a leader. He was still regal but there was a humble side to him, too.

He straightened his posture and with a jerk looked behind him as he saw a rock be thrown into the rocky waters from behind from your hand wanting to get his attention.

"Mind if I join you?" (y/n) said to the messy haired blonde man.

Thor stood up and nodded. "You may. I am Thor, God of Thunder. You are?"

"(Y/n.)" you replied, "what are you doing up here all alone?" you sit next to him with legs folded under you cross legged.

Thor smiled softly, "I am here because it is my duty to my people to watch the lovely night sky with them." trying to show himself as a good leader. He sat on the edge of the cliff again beside you.

"You talk so formal..."

"You speak too imformal." He spouted back fake offended with a smile.

"I know who you are. The Avenger... You helped everyone... a lot... I must say I am impressed with your missions... Thank you for saving the world."

"I was only doing my duty." Thor then gestured out to the sky to show you his pink clouds and orange skies. "Isn't it full of beauty?"

You smiled and nodded to him.

Thor tilted his head. "Why did you come up here?"

You replied, "I saw you up here and I was wondering what you were looking at. So, I came well I hiked up here. It took me half the day... well like 3 hours..."

"Your Midguardian feet must hurt... I have some healing salve at my home."

"Well, it's getting late... I'll come over tomorrow, yeah?"

Thor chuckled looking down then up to your eyes with his blues. "i will send for you. Where will you be taking refuge?"

"I actually have to leave tomorrow night..."

"Does that mean you haven't anywhere to stay?"

"I do..."

"You must stay with me tonight. Yes?"

"I just met you... Just send for me. Please?"

"Yes, it's inappropriate of me to ask that is it not?"

You shrugged and smiled soft. "Good night Thor." You looked off to the dark navy and white speckled sky as he laid down and stared at the stars when you walked away "Do you want to join me? The sky tells a story of heartbreak, brightness, and terror. It could change at any moment. But the stars are everlasting."

Inspiration. It had come as you were sitting with this man looking at all the stars above.

He started telling you about how he became an Avenger and about how Loki and his father and him and mother all had secrets from each other. He answered all your questions.

He helped you back to your cottage you were staying at and wished you good night and he sent for you and you came back to his house the next afternoon since you got in late and he wanted you to rest some before your journey home. He gave you a house tour. Then, he sat you in a huge decorated den and started answering your questions as he had the day before.

Before you left, you helped Thor find his house's phone so he could talk to you and help you with your story, further. You loved hearing stories of his brother and him. It was so interesting. It was funny and tragic at the same time. You loved talking to him, too. His accent helped. He couldn't get enough of talking with you, either. He never had gotten the hang of phones, though. He ended up writing you letters, snail mail. Which he told more to you than if you were talking on a phone, so you just let him eventually threw the phone aside and just write you letters.

He told you that you could come back at any time. You were always welcome and he was happy to be your inspiration. He trusted your writing to tell the truth about his brother and his little and big brotherly squalls. He became slow in replying. He had been saving the world again.

Thor was very happy to receive the book of two brothers. Reading would give him a break from all the drama he had been dealing with, with the Avengers and Loki and his wonderful but somewhat stressful subjects. He was a good ruler. He cared for his people. That's when a soft smile came across his face as he opened the book from the land's post master.

As he took the book, he started walking toward the cliff, while he walked to the cliffs where he had originally met the author. That's where he found his friend that had sent him this book of two brothers. He smiled knowing you would be there.

"(Y/n), This book is a reflection on the stories I told you the time I was placed in your presence last year of my brother and me? Correct?" remembering what he told you in his tales of his brother and him even in letters. Hoping he could find you.

"How did you know you could find me here?" You smiled.

"I was hopeful." He smiled. He placed a hand on your shoulder and sat.

He sat sitting off the side of the cliff and opened the book to the first page wanting to show you his facial expressions while he read. He thanked you for writing such a masterpiece. The names were different in the book but he appreciated the way you wrote.

"You should move here." He chuckled as he noticed you admiring once more as before the horizon of the fjord.

You looked over to him and shook your head smiling. "No, Thor. I will visit every now and then though. It's beautiful. You have a beautiful land..."

"You have become a dear friend of mine. I only wanted to watch you to make sure you are safe. I only feel I can do that from Asgard."

"You are my good friend too, Thor and maybe one day you can introduce me to Loki."

Thor shook his head. "I have not seen him lately."

"That's ok. I would've loved to had met him. I'm just glad I get to see you whenever when I come here. Do you like the book?"

Thor grinned wide showing all his white teeth. He had so many teeth in his mouth. He had a great contagious smile. "Thank you, (y/n)." Only having read a few front pages.

Wicked Game Fanmix

Look I said I’d make this in 2018 and then life was A LOT but I finally finished it today and frankly it’s still my absolute favourite BFU fic.

If you haven’t read Wicked Game go read it ( and send your adoring praise to @mephsation ) If you’re swerving spoilers do NOT read the rest of this yet bc boy am I about the quote the shit out of my favourite fic and also I’ve written a brief summary of every chapter in case people have forgotten.

So Chapter one: Shane’s just joined the precinct, when Ryan works out the scene they’re at was by a copycat rather than the Lover Shane responds by just saying “You’re Brilliant.”

We’re gonna be friends- The White Stripes, it’s the beginning of Ryan impressing Shane and they’re already conversing easily, honestly this is the chapter I struggled to find a song for the most.

Chapter two: This is where we meet Jess for the first time and find out about her and Shane’s relationship. It’s also when Ryan establishes that the copycat is shorter than the killer so the song I picked was

Looking up- Paramore, granted this is entirely down to the first lyrics being “Things are looking up oh finally” but it’s a banger anyway

Chapter three: This is when Ryan gets the first email. Ryan also nearly gets stabbed and Shane shoots a suspect, the copycat writes ‘he’s not good enough for you’ in blood.

Chic- Leadley primarily for “We could last forever she could last all week” Jess is so sure she’s better suited to Shane than Ryan is.

Chapter four: The second email arrives, explaining that the Lover has killed a man for the first time, the man looks like Ryan.

One More Murder- Better Than Ezra “One more murder in this town don’t mean a thing” which is what Ryan tries to convince himself after a lookalike is murdered.

Chapter five: This is where Ryan first realises he has a crush on Shane, it’s also the chapter with the press conference where the Lover’s sexuality is raised and when Shane admits he’s questioning is sexuality sending Ryan into a slight spiral based on his fear of being outed.

Would you be so Kind?- Dodie I’m not sure who’s POV I think this applies to more at this point.

Chapter six: This is the chapter where Ryan apologises to Shane for his reaction to him coming out, it is also the chapter where an LAPD officer who is the exact same race as Ryan and looks like him is killed, Ryan throws up.

Fear and Loathing- Marina and the Diamonds This is mostly in relation to Ryan’s fears about coming about though I suppose could also be applied to the whole serial killer killing people who are very similar to him thing.

Chapter seven: This is when Ryan and Shane go on their Not! Date that is definitely a date, it ends in their first kiss and Shane blowing him on the couch “Please don’t make me regret this”.

Brilliant Mind- Furniture throughout the fic Shane is constantly fascinated by how ‘brilliant’ Ryan is and this chapter epitomises that. “ You must be out of your brilliant mind”

Chapter eight: Ryan tells Shane about the homophobia he’s experienced in the past, Jess finds out they spent the night together “woke in an empty bed aching for a presence he has no business missing”. Shane is helping a friend clean their apartment so he goes to meet Jess at a bar and gets spiked.

Far too young to die- Panic! at the disco I went with this song because essentially it’s a recurring theme that Ryan almost dies also the obsessive nature of the verses fit in with Shane’s behaviour “ I've never so adored you, I'm twisting allegories now,I want to complicate you, Don't let me do this to myself”

Chapter nine: This is when Ryan wakes up in the hospital, Shane starts to behave oddly and just says he is working on a theory, he also invites himself over to take care of Ryan, Ryan discovers the cleaning supplies in a publi bin. The chapter ends with Shane revealing that Jess is the copycat and the bombshell of “Schmidtt thinks I’m the lover”

If I lose it- Charlie Simpson A little because of the medical stuff at the start of the Chapter a lot because Shane seems so scared for Ryan and ultimately the uncertaintly at the end of the chapter “ I can't tell you what will happen, To us as the days passed, Please just stay with me.”

Chapter ten: Shane plays the recording of Jess, Ryan plans to spend a night with Jess despite everyone telling him not to. Shane begs Ryan not to be scared of him “no more innocents” Jess texts him that she is going to kill someone if he doesn’t come to her immediately, he locked both their guns in the safe so goes unarmed.

Pressure- Paramore this is frankly one of the most stressful chapters to read because Ryan commits dumbassery after dumbassery and I think this embodies that intense STRESS feeling very well

Chapter eleven:Jess is arrested, Shane almost shoots her in full view of the bodycam, Ryan gets shot and Shane is going on trial to ensure Jess pleads guilty.

Coming Down- Halsey This is where Ryan starts to see a possible darker side to Shane  “I found the Devil, I found him in a lover, And his lips like tangerine, In his color coded speak”

Chapter twelve: This is when it’s officially revealed that Shane’s a murderer, he stands by no innocents killing Leo Tayler with an axe after he caused the deaths of his children.

Monster- Paramore “ You were my conscience, so solid, now you're like water We started drowning, not like we'd sink any further” this is the point at which Ryan’s conscience is starting to slip (even if it’s giving Shane more of one)

Chapter thirteen: With no more murders they are eventually taken of the Lover case Jess’s trial is over quickly and she pleads guilty, Shane’s trial drags on, Ryan finds out he killed a criminal in one of his first weeks on duty, he’s found not guilty, Ryan sees Shane at the firing range and says that he wants Leo to be dead, he gets home from work to find Shane in his LAPD uniform.  The head is delivered to Ryan

Crazy=Genius- Panic! at the Disco, this is a bit of a summary of Shane’s character throughout honestly but also this really feels like the turning point of no return, Shane would do anything for Ryan including murder, and it’s through his ‘genius’ he was found not guilty. 

Chapter fourteen: As they investigate Leo Taylor’s murder Ryan begins to suspect Shane, this is where he quizzes Shane, discovers a knife in his home that isn’t his, later whilst investigating the deaths of sex wokers Ryan runs into a building without back up, Shane shoots Douglas and Ryan basically asks him to kill Murray

One Little Lie- Simple Creatures because at this point Ryan basically knows Shane is a murderer he just gets very good at lying to himself “I tell myself one little lie and the pain don’t phase me”

Chapter fifteen: So basically whilst fucking Shane Ryan thanks him for killing Douglas and then he bites him until it draws blood because Shane asked him to/ They manage to book a holiday eventualy, Ryan finds out Shane has a ssecond phone and saves the number. They go literally everywhere Ryan loves: Knotts Berry Farm, A Lakers Game, Disneyland there’s a car crash and Ryan stops to save the victims. Shane admits he wouldn’t have stopped. When they’re due to return to work Shane leaves early. When Ryan gets to work there’s a rung on his desk and email from Shane. He tries to call him on both phones “ I would’ve said yes”

Already Gone- Kelly Clarkson look when I started this playlist this was the only song I was certain was fitting for this particular part of the story because in his own way Shane is trying to protect Ryan by leaving. “ And I want you to know, You couldn't have loved me better, But I want you to move on, So I'm already gone”

Chapter sixteen: Shane watched him for ten years. Ryan remarries after moving to Chicago although he still wears Shane’s ring around his neck. Another killer goes after him. Shane finds out and it culminates in his shooting Weber. Ryan instantly knows it’s Shane and makes a come hither motion.

I felt younger when we met- Waterparks Ryan has had the guilt of hiding what he knows about Shane for a decade, he still cares about him but it kills him inside “ Do you see, You're the reason I can't sleep?, Lose it where your head should be”

Chapter seventeen:Ryan and Shane meet in a bar, Shane tells him the names of everybody he killed, they go home together after Ryan tries and fails ot arrest him, Shane chokes him until he’s either unconscious or dead and turns himself in the next day

Pompeii- Bastille This chapter is straight up just dark nostalgia (which frankly you can inject into my veins) “And if you close your eyes, Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all” In the dark between my sheets

Random Headcanons bc I can’t stop thinking about the Valerianos & Casimiros

Marina fled directly to Vesuvia after she ran away from home. 

She was about 17-18 when she left.

She had always known that she had a natural talent for magic and used to practice using it when she was alone as a young person

She met and was able to move in with the old woman who previously owned her shop. She allowed her to stay there as long as she helped mind the shop from time to time. The woman taught her much about her magic abilities.

While she lived there, she traveled around with the woman and met many different people around the world that she learned more about her magic from.

When the woman passed, Marina inherited the shop from her and fixed it up into the magic shop we know today.

Marina never settled down with anyone, but she did have several long-term relationships.

Her favorite book of romantic poetry was given to her by a girlfriend that she genuinely loved. She would’ve liked to marry her if the woman hadn’t decided to leave Vesuvia for a different life. 

Marina and Camila’s step-brother, Dante, lived in the monastery he ran off to for three years before leaving to travel the world at about 18. He has found work as a portrait painter for royalty and is still alive at the time of the game events.

He never forgot about his step sisters and always wondered what happened to them. He does not know that they are now both deceased.

Dante is the only one of Elvira’s relatives still alive. Even so, she has no blood relatives left. Or does she? 👀

Honestly, the only person I haven’t thought about regarding what happened to them is her maternal grandmother, Valentina.

If Camila and Ignacio had continued on with Ignacio’s tribe, they would’ve eventually came to Vesuvia.

Had they come to Vesuvia, they might have found Marina and stayed in the city.

Ignacio and Camila would’ve been fascinated to find out that Marina had a strong inclination toward magic and would’ve learned some from her.

Apparently I hate happiness because I believe they would’ve perished during the Plague. I would like to think that wouldn’t have happened. But, considering that Camila and Ignacio would’ve wanted to help Marina find a cure, I’m not sure they would’ve survived.

Also this ultimately means that Elvira would’ve ended up an orphan and/ or dying of the Plague either way. But, this time, she would’ve lost her family all at once.

Elvira has a middle name! It’s Valentina, after Camila and Marina’s mother. However, this information is lost to her.

Marina and Camila were often confused for being twins when they got older because they looked so alike. Marina is older than Camila by 2 years. There was only a year difference between Dante and Camila.

Ignacio didn’t know it, but he actually had a strong inclination for magic himself. 

The stuff that Abuelita Itzel taught him about plants and how to use them was heavily based in magic.

He also had a natural understanding with animals.

Basically, this man was a magician and didn’t even know it. Because he grew up around people like him, he just assumed that everyone had these abilities.

It is assumed that Valentina was a magician and had a strong inclination for magic, as well. So, Elvira possibly inherited her strong magic ability from both sides of her family.

Music Monday (7-22-19)

New Releases

Champion by Bishop Briggs: A new Bishop Briggs single! It’s her signature brand of badass alternative pop, with fiery vocals and empowering lyrics. While it’s pretty good, it’s also slightly generic. It doesn’t have the lyrical specificity that let last year’s “Baby” shine, or the fascinating instrumentation on “River” that did such a good job of setting Briggs apart from her peers. Despite that, it’s still keeping my interest going for whatever project she’s planning on releasing next, and the music video implies some kind of continuous story in her visuals, which is really exciting. (The video is badass, BTW.)

Gone by Charli XCX ft. Christine and the Queens: I’m so unbelievably hyped for Charli I can’t even put it into words. This song is catchy as fuck, the production is studded with dark synths and snappy percussion, and Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens have great vocal chemistry. I’m not the biggest fan of the electronic vocal-fragment breakdown at the end, I feel like it kind of slows the momentum of the song rather than building to a climax like I think it’s trying to, but that doesn’t detract from how great the rest of it is. 

I Wish by Hayley Kiyoko: Hayley Kiyoko’s sound is getting darker, and I’m here for it. This new cut from her almost reminds me of Zolita due to it’s more sarcastic leaning lyrics and witchy accompanying visuals. The production on Kiyoko’s vocals in the chorus is an interesting choice, giving them this glassy, hazy feel, which fits the heartbroken, almost bitter tone of the lyrics. I’m so excited so see what she drops next, and if she’ll keep going in this direction, because I think that it could result in some really interesting tunes. 

Looking at Me by Sabrina Carpenter: Singular Act II dropped this past Friday! While I don’t think it’s quite as good as Act I, there are still some pop bangers to be found, and this song is an example of that, it really is a stunner of a closer to the album. The Latin influence in the beat and prominent horns make the song really danceable, and Sabrina’s self-assured performance delivers the confident lyrics with panache. 

Why Do You Love Me by Charlotte Lawrence: “Seventeen” was one of my favorite songs that I listened to last Summer, so I’ve been eagerly awaiting Charlotte Lawrence’s next release to see if it would be another Summer-defining bop. In short, this song sounds like what would happen if you melded “bury a friend” by Billie Eilish and “Happy Together” by The Turtles together. It’s got a nice, jaunty beat and tense atmosphere, thought it could use something more, whether that be darker bass or some more experimental production. If Charlotte Lawrence decides to go for this sound in the future, I hope that she plunges even deeper into the dark. 

Saddest Generation by IDER: The new IDER album Emotional Education is here and it’s really good! Their sound is so hypnotizing, studded with stunning vocal harmonies that blow me away with each listen. This track is one of the more down-tempo cuts off the album. The lyrical themes of a downtrodden youth give me Pure Heroine throwbacks, but the instrumental is more layered and warm, including a nice guitar solo near the end. 

i’ll die anyway. by girl in red: I consider this the unofficial follow up to another girl in red song, “summer depression” off of last year’s chapter 1 EP. This is drenched in girl in red’s classic sound, with the washed-out vocal production and a dusky layer of low-fi over a solid, grounded indie-rock instrumental. With all of these new singles, perhaps there’s an album on the way? One can hope. 

Palm Springs by Ariel Beesley: It’s finally on Spotify! I don’t have to flip flop back and forth from SoundCloud anymore! I am so in love with Ariel Beesley’s retro sound and rich vocals. The chrous on this song is accentuated with shimmering synths, electric guitars, and a swoom-worthy vocal melody that’ll get stuck in your head. 

Other Favorites

Drive by Oh Wonder: God is this song charming. Not only is is super chill, it’s also super sweet. The triumphant strings, hushing vocals, and pensive lyrics instantly put me at peace. 

Love Me Tender by No Frills Twins: The title calls back to Elvis? The opening bass line reminds me so much of Tame Impala? And yet this song is drenched in bubblegum bass EDM, it sounds like a track MARINA would’ve made in a forgotten era between The Family Jewels and Electra Heart. I fucking love it, this song is a banger and a half. MARINA, Allie X, and Charli XCX fans should give this track a listen for sure. No Frills Twins haven’t released anything since 2017, but I pray that they drop new music eventually, because they have some amazing songs.
