EMMY! secret chuupets with dinner got me thinking.. what if suna comes to visit one day and he's pretty awkward around babies and kids,, he's not sure what to talk about with them, taxes? the weather? no, suna- so he just offers hisako a chuupet from his emergency stash he keeps in his bag and the second hisako tastes it she's like !! what is this and why is this the best food in the world!!!
and then there's a time period where she's just.. enamored with suna. like will not stop staring at him, offers him her best crayon masterpieces, shyly invites him to her tea parties. and samu is just 🤨😠 now wait a minute, what's all this about uncle suna-
the tipping point is when she rejects on onigiri in favor of a chuupet. samu has never experienced heartbreak and betrayal like this before.
MIZU YOU HAD NO RIGHT TO MAKE ME CACKLE AT 11:09 IN THE MORNING-
Oh my god this is so funny, like he literally just comes around for a visit with his old teammates, and nine times out of ten, they’re going to Atsumu’s because he’s a dad or wtvr, but sometimes he forgets that 1.) Atsumu got laid and now has a child, and 2.) Rin has no chemistry with children.
But they like him! He’s not a monster or anything, but a lot of the time he just ends up staring at them because it’s different when it’s not your little sister- you can’t just full-Nelson another kid like you can a sibling, and that’s all Rin has the familiarity of.
So, he just kind of. Lets the other man-children entertain Hisako, offering her a cheeky smile when she catches his sharp eyes, and when the guys all finally make their way into Atsumu’s house for dinner, he grabs one of his chuupets to mow down on while Osamu cooks.
“Wha’s ‘dat?” Hisako asks, eyes just barely peeking over the counter he’s sitting at. He swallows the bit that’s in his mouth while he stares back at her, “it’s a chuupet; I keep a few of my favorite flavors on me in case I get hungry.”
“….”
“…?”
“You get to have snacks whenever you wanna?”
He smirks, “I’m an adult kiddo, I can do what I want.”
“Can I try?” She asks shyly, and Suna shrugs and calls her closer so he can plop her on his thigh. He passes her the treat, and the minute Hisako tastes that sweetness, it’s over.
“‘Is really good!” She gasps, finishing off the rest of it, and Rin can bring himself to be mad. He ruffles her hair, “yeah, just don’t tell your uncle that I gave it to you, he’ll think you ruined your appetite.”
She giggles and nods, quickly slipping off his leg to go play with her dad, and Rin finally finds himself starting to warm up to the kid. She gives him a teacup despite not being able to fit at the play table, she draws him a few pictures to take back home with him, even tugs at his thick fingers to stay when it’s time for everyone to head back to their hotels.
And from then on, Hisako just… always wants Rin.
She’s obsessed, she really likes the playful vibe he gives off, she liked how she made her dad sputter in offense, every time she hears his voice over FaceTime, she’s pleading to say hi and show him all her new toy trucks and dolls.
And Osamu is… perturbed, to say the least; sure, he knows he’s been on the receiving end for year now, torturing his poor brother with the connection he has with Hisako, but now to watch her gravitate towards Sunarin and ask everyone when he can come play, it just doesn’t sit well with him.
And Atsumu’s just like yeah it doESNT FEEL GOOD DOES IT-
But it’s just… weird for Osamu to not have her affections like he used to. And it comes to a head when he makes her her favorite, onigiri with extra tuna and a side of green bean shiraae, but she just pouts at the plate and gives her uncle her best puppy eyes because she knows he can’t say no. But Osamu literally wants to die at the idea she doesn’t want his cooking anymore, he’d literally rather jam a fist into scalding water than admit that Sunarin’s treats are better than his home cooked meals.
“‘M not hungry,” she whines, and osamu drops his head in defeat.
“Little Miss, you need to eat,” he coaxes, wiping his hands on a towel. “Your dad’s not gonna be here for a few more hours, and you know he doesn’t like it when you don’t eat your dinner.”
“But ‘m not hungryyyy,” she tries again, and at this point Osamu is just running on fumes, he’s tired and she’s his favorite person in the world but if she doesn’t work that nerve so well-
“Okay, well, you need to eat something,” he says firmly. And he can practically see an invisible tail wagging behind her and he licks the corner of his mouth in only slight frustration. “What do you want to eat?”
“Can I have a chuupet!”
“No,” he says instantly. “You need big girl food first, you know that.”
“But-“
“You know the rules, ‘Sako. It’s not happening.” Thick brows go stern, and she pouts as her bottom lip wobbles. He hates it, hates the sight of her even slightly upset at his words, but he needs to draw a line somewhere.
Even if it makes physical, actual tears sting his eyes.
“Uncle ‘Taro says he gets to have snacks whenever he wanna,” she says, sniffling. She slips from her chair and shuffles to the living room to sulk and let her feelings get sorted, something the twins taught her to do, but Osamu decides to bend the rules just this once. He packs up her leftovers in her bento, places the dishes in the sink and grabs a yogurt from the fridge and a chuupet to bring to her for “dessert.”
“If you eat the entire yogurt for me,” he begins, watching her splotchy face turn from the corner of the couch, towards him slowly. “You can have the chuupet after.” Damned Sunarin.
She nods, and the rest of the night just feels different. Maybe that’s why she likes Sunarin more than Osamu; Suna has always been more carefree and easygoing, while Osamu’s always had something on his shoulders. He sulks slightly while his niece slowly spoons yogurt into her mouth, the tv playing Bluey while they sit in predominant silence.
But then, she whines again. But it’s not a needy whine, it’s a whine of distress,, a mewl of agony and the hairs on the back of Osamu’s neck stand up.
“Uncie…” she whimpers, eyes turning up to Osamu’s; his own are blown with concern, she never calls him “uncie” anymore, only resorting to it when she needs his attention. “I don’t feel good…” she looks so sick, like she’s about to toss up every bit of food she’s ever eaten, and it kills Osamu to know that it’s the sugar and sweetness that’s upsetting her belly… but it kills him even more how much he’s thrilled to be right.
“My poor baby,” he says softly, opening an arm for her to cuddle into his side, which she does needily. He kisses her head, “do you see why you need to eat big girl food before sweets? Your tummy doesn’t like it.” She nods, and he rests a warm hand to try and soothe her aches before she gets really sick.
“Uncle ‘Mu?” She mumbles, and Osamu’s heart flutters at the rare nickname. “Yeah, baby?”
“No more chuupets… miss your food.”
Suck on that, Suna.
