I don't really do the awareness week things cuz I draw during pride month but finding out (learning how to read a bio status that's been in my face every time I open their blog) that @hellishgayliath is aro, I wanted to incorporate them! I know I say I appreciate them a lot but ITS BECAUSE I DO!

This is also a reveal that Luci is aro spec! I am not aromantic myself, but I have done my research into it. However, if I do make any stereotypical or offensive characterizations for Luci, please let me know so I may change that! I find it funny that both Repo & Luci wouldn't know of the labels lgtbqia+ so Luci has no idea what aromantic is lol

Okok, so I designed Luci in late December. I make characters in my head for fandoms I'm in all the time, but I never draw them out because I never care to. I didn't really consider making a rottmnt oc until Helli dropped their Bao character which is followed when I started making fanart of Helli's sons. I decided, "I have nothing better to do, so why not" and I really like moths, so why not a moth oc?

Seeing Pico & Bao made me really want to put Luci in a relationship, and I had (and still have) a character in mind that I'd pair her with. But the more I drew her and explored her character, I wasn't as sure. Around this time I learned what QPRs (queer platonic relationship) are and the best way I can describe them is that they're like deeper (more-than-platonic-but-not-romantic) soulmates.

This led me into the aro spec rabbit hole (ha, hi Helli) and I learned a lot about aro labels and aromanticism in general, to which some things I didn't know I connected with lol. And I am aware, since it's a spectrum, that some aros are in relationships, single, interested in romance, repulsed, or a mess of all these things.

But I still wasn't sure if I felt putting Luci in some kind of relationship (more towards a QPR) was okay? I haven't said much on Luci's view on relationships and romance, and I'll do that in another post so I'm not writing an essay over here lol. Because I'm aware that some people do go down that route of "Well some aromantics do date, so I can draw this character in a relationship" and no hate though as peeps can do what they want. I just didn't want to do that with Luci.

So really I'm on the fence of the possibility, and if I do, I want to do it in a way that's respectful to aro's with boundaries or dislikes Luci would have if she was in a close relationship. Of course, I could be overthinking this, which is why I shortened this post in the first place lol, but I'm also a paranoid socially anxious person that doesn't want to be offensive especially since my moot is on this spectrum. I will accept any tips or advice if they're offered; I just wanted to yap and blah blah.

honestly - scrolling through the tag and seeing how people talk about hananoi-kun , i kind of hate it . i kin him a lot , and he's working so hard actively in show ( and manga !!!) to change some extreme thought processes he has and it just feels like everyone has false hope that he's putting in work and effort . it feels like these people's words are directed at me and it hurts , i know maybe i just need to touch grass but ... i don't know .. i just wish i saw more compassion for him and his efforts rather than hearing he's creepy all the time .

I’m a WRECK

Man, they really created one of the most characters to ever when they wrote Trip Tucker. Like at first glance he’s just this average engineer guy but then you look more closely and like:

- He is almost entirely self-taught. Broski taught himself engineering from textbooks and boat engines. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS DUDE TAUGHT HIMSELF WARP THEORY AND ENGINEERING ON BOAT ENGINES FOR FUNSIES AND THEN GOT GOOD ENOUGH AT IT THAT STARFLEET HIRED HIM WITHOUT (seemingly, according to memory alpha, seriously I read his whole page and cross checked it and stuff and I swear) HIM HAVING A DEGREE. HOLY CRAP.

- Not only did Starfleet hire Boat Engine Genius from the School of Florida Backyard Creeks but it seems that he was A. pretty young when they hired him and B. rose really quickly through the ranks because when we see him in the flashback with Archer at their first meeting, he already held the rank of Lieutenant and was probably 22 (he was born in 2121 and the flashback takes place in 2143). That’s pretty darn young to be a lieutenant. By the time Enterprise starts, Trip is about 30 years old, holds the rank of Commander AND he’s the Chief Engineer of the flagship. 

- Again, I reiterate, the dude taught himself.

- Even though he’s a revered engineer who helped develop engines and design them and maintain them he’s still deeply connected to his roots. Fame doesn’t seem to have gotten to his head at all. He’s confident, but he’s still very much Just A Guy from Florida. He loves fishing and scuba diving. He eats pecan pie. He tells stories about his grandparents. He uses idioms and metaphors and phrases that are very southern. He’s very much A Dude.

- That’s another thing. Trip has HOBBIES. LOTS OF THEM. He scuba dives, he dabbles in photography, he’s a movie buff, he plays the harmonica, and he does RESEARCH. A few episodes into season one, I noticed that Trip will randomly spout off random facts about Vulcans sometimes. The guy got curious about his new crewmate and did his homework on her, to whatever degree he could. 

- And, ya know, he likes what he likes but he’s pretty willing to try new things. Even though in Unexpected he, uh, got a lil surprise, he was pretty willing to try the foods and holodecks and games on the alien ship. He generally seems to enjoy away missions because he likes new experiences.

- Which is really kinda neat because, according to interviews with the creators, Trip hadn’t been to any alien planets or even open space very far from earth before.

- Even though Trip deeply appreciates experiencing new cultures and meeting new aliens he’s also quick to say what he thinks. I love it when he calls out the Vulcan high command. It’s snappy and a lot of the time he has a good point. He’s good at what he does and he’s got a pretty decent sense of right and wrong that he only seems to stray from in times of duress (like when Elizabeth died).

- He’s really loyal too. A lot of the moments where he speaks up are in defense of his friends or people he sees as being treated unfairly. I don’t see him being driven by selfish intent very often. 

- Going back to Trip being a movie guy, I just think it’s neat that he likes old movies so much and that he took it upon himself to start Movie Night and facilitate it while also doing his Chief Engineer duties. And then after he started movie nights, he made sure everyone was always invited. Always. And sometimes he asked people to help pick movies out to make sure people were enjoying the event.

- Also he cries at cheesy romance movies and I love him for it.

- He has such a comfortable relationship with the rest of the senior officer team, which is really interesting. He and Archer are old friends. He and Reed develop a fast friendship. He and T’Pol are kinda bantery-arguey at first but eventually, even before they fall in love, they form a friendship and confide in one another. He and Hoshi have a fun little sibling-type thing going on. He and Travis seem to get along pretty well pretty quick, though we didn’t get to see a lot of their relationship (thanks Rick). He and Phlox obviously have some interesting things going on Re:Simlitude but I think it’s neat that Trip and Phlox seem to also have a friendly banter. It’s like Trip is this friend magnet that everyone seems to like pretty well and get along with easily. 

- Another really interesting element of him as a character that I know other people have talked about more comprehensively than I have is the fact that Trip very much wants a family. He drops a mention of “Charles Tucker V” in Shuttlepod One. He’s nervous about being a single mother in Unexpected but he gets excited when Ahlen tells him the baby is a girl. He’s positively GIDDY when he meets Lorian and takes a ton of time to point out family resemblances and, then, when Lorian tells Trip he died when Lorian was 14, Trip is CRUSHED. Elizabeth is obviously a surprise and there’s a lot of stressful things happening there, but that conversation he has with Phlox in sickbay where Phlox says the baby is girl and has T’Pol’s ears and stuff,,,,,,,,,, THE MAN WAS EXCITED TO BE A DAD. LOOK AT HIM. I am devastated that he never got the family he wanted but I love love love that that was an element of his character. So many Starfleet characters seem really adverse to having families because of the work they do but Trip never was. 

Anyway, I love Genius Engineer Himbo Hobbies McFloridaMan a whole lot. He’s not perfect, but I feel like he’s a really good representation of humanity and I like the layers he has. Truly, he’s just very Character and so fun to pick apart and analyze.
