to answer ur question: yes. she did love him in that life (unfortunately :")) in my mind, having sukuna (someone highly intelligent & tactical) to play shogi with gave her an equal, & thus a sense of companionship (w/c must've been a blessing to someone who's all alone in that village). having to beat him was a source of fulfillment too (stimulating her hinted at competitive nature). i was inspired by komugi & meruem from hunterxhunter (one of my top 10 ships of all time), but without the transformative power of love lmao. in their story, the love made it worse :"))
