This will be long but this is a compilation of everything that stuck out to me about the show! Spoilers Obviously

Act I:

The theater was GORGEOUS, the stage was beautiful, the music before the show was so good. The crowd was so excited, the ushers were so nice. It was just a wonderful experience before the show even started

Invisible started and I almost cried. Sophia is such an amazing singer, and hearing her sing live? She has so much power in her voice it gave me chills

I also liked looking through the ensemble and recognizing the cast members

The costumes were so stunning

The minute Beetlejuice arrived on stage everyone started clapping for a solid minute and he just waited there with a big grin on his face

OH MY GOD HIS SINGING was amazing

The sandworm was HUGE like I knew it would be big but it was literally huge

I was surprised that a lot of Beetlejuice’s jokes fell flat, they were hilarious

He said something along the lines of “I feel so out of place...like a gay republican”

I died

The MAITLANDS seeing them for the first time was so good!!! David plays an amazing Adam. Adam needs ot be protected at all costs, he is such a good husband

Barbara would do this low and growly voice during “Not Yet” and it was so funny. 

Beetlejuice just hanging around them before they died was very funny. He would have one liners that were just hilarious

When the Maitlands fell through the fucking floor boards, I knew it was gonna happen but like it still shocked me

THE SAD PUPPET SHOW

Literally five minutes after he found out there was a kid in the audience Barbara says “You give me the creeps” and he goes “Well you give me a boner!”

The whole being dead thing reprise was SO GOOD. It was so amazing to watch live

Charles is so much more RAUNCHY than I expected, very sex oriented lol but so blunt about it

LYDIA 

Can I just say that Sophia Anne Caruso plays teenage angst SO WELL. Like I 100% felt the sadness Lydia was feeling, it was so palpable

Just once more what the fuck did Lydia think was happening??? How dare she be surprised that they were moving. Like I love her but come on...

There’s a point during the scene where Lydia straight up gets this evil look on her face, starts giggling and goes up to Delia all innocently, trying to make it seem like this is hard for her to do and she’s breaking through. She does the whole “knock know” and when Delia said you don’t open the doors Lydia straight up started crying and said “I guess you’ll never know”

Dead Mom made me sob, Sophia has so much power when she is singing. There were points where Lydia would be near tears and it was so sad but so incredible. 

Fright of their lives was very funny. BUT THEY CHANGED THE KATHRINE HEPBURN joke. 

Adam is such a supportive husband

I also loved: “What are things that make you scared” and Adam goes “THE ELECTROAL COLLEGE! WHY DOES OHIO HAVE SO MUCH POWER” and Barbara deadass goes “Can I change my answer”

“No Reason” was also very funny, Delia tries so hard. This woman dabbed, did Fortnight dances, and just is a ray of sunshine. It’s just not what Lydia needs. Lydia was so savage during that song she took zero shits

Delia looked so upset when Lydia said “and good people die” It was very obvious she knew Lydia was talking about her mom, she went over to hug her but Lydia went under her arm

LYDIA MEETING THE MAITLANDS so adorable

Lydia telling the story about her mom. She looked so happy to have someone to talk to about it. 

“Every year me and my mom would build these haunted houses but it was during the summer so nobody was expecting it. One time she dressed up as the ghost of edgar allen poe! I thought she was so scary, but nobody knew who she was...because people don’t read.”

Also Adam is adorable, his dad joke made the whole audience groan

Lydia just needs to affection. She was like “I don’t have many friends...it’s nice to know I have you guys in the attic.”

Delia: “That was the most impressive rogering you’ve ever given me” Charles: “I’m very good at sex”

LYDIA IS SO DRAMATIC. I’m talking she's fake fainting about the scary ghosts, collapsing to the floor. A+ performace, it was so funny

WHEN LYDIA FIND DELIA heart breaking. She was crying I just wanted someone to hug her. The Maitlands looked so concerned, Charles didn’t make any attempts to comfort her which kinda made me pissed at him because he was being very selfish. Also when Lydia cried, “I wish I was dead.” he didn’t even bother to follower her. Do better Charles

Lydia started like having a mental break down when BJ started singing “I’m gonna have a new best friend!” like someone please give this girl a break. She so smol

the line “and kill him” was said so quietly that he was like trying to have Lydia not hear him

FAKE CARTWHEEL

Any time Lydia said Beetlejuice a light would shine on BJ but then go out when she would go beeeeeee- “cuz/” “being” “be a doll”

Nice lighting touch

The lighting, in general, was amazing

Lydia was so intrested in the possesion of Adam and Barbara it was so cool to see the little glimmer of a plan forming in her head

SHE PUSHED BJ off the roof and when she goes “what he was already dead” the Maitlands just kinda shrug like “she right” 

Charles and Delia trying to High-five but missing? Cute ass couple, they are actually really cute together

Maxie Dean is a creep and has ZERO RIGHTS

Lydia’s yellow dress and how excited Delia was and how relieved Charles was

Day-O was fantastic Lydia looked so happy but then it started failing and instantly she got very angry but a sad kind of angry. She had such a look of hesitation on her face when she summoned BJ but she went through with it when she looked over at her dad and he was giving Delia a kiss.

You could see in her eyes that Lydia almost instantly regretted it when she saw just how chaotic he was being, but she just kept going because she thought she had no other alternative. 

Charles reaching out for Lydia before he got pushed out of the house and Lydia looking at him as if she just wanted him to come and get her? HEART BREAKING

Intermission:

Act II:

When Skye came on stage someone behind me said “Who is she??” like bitch just WATCH

Dana was amazing as Skye, Skye deserves the world she is so pure

LYDIA so chaotic as Skye definitely has a bby crush on Lydia

“Boo. Hope I didn’t scare you!”- Skye

Then Lydia scares her, Skye starts hyperventilating and Lydia goes “you’re fun!” and Skye says “I like you too!”

Lydia SMILING. Any time she smiled it felt like a blessing. She seemed so happy

The clones do acrobatics in the aisles I did not expect that, it was so intense

Lydia accidentally exorcising Barbara was SO MUCH SADDER THAN I HAD EXPECTED like Lydia was having a mental breakdown she was os upset and lost and confused

When Beetlejuice showed up her face went so pale and she looked so scared.

“Well you wanted your mommy so this is what you get!” I CRIED that was so uncalled for

When the whole family was trapped Lydia really looked like a scared little kid because she is...like you forget how young Lydia is but there are several moments in the show where you are reminded that she is a scared, and lonely little girl who misses her mom

Charles trying to reach out to her but being chained to a wall, heart breaking. This scene made me so sad in general

Lydia agreeing to Marry him but her voice cracking and sounding so scared :(

Poor Lydia was being pushed around, and pulled, and dragged, she looked so scared. Like she would try to run away from people but they would just grab her and pull her back. She looked like she was hyperventilating and just needed a hug but any time Charles got close to her

When BJ came back to life and everything was shaking on stage Sophia straight up yeeted her hat off stage, I laughed so loud even though nothing else funny was happening on stage

Lydia looked so mortified when she killed BJ

Juno coming back for Lydia and Lydia actaully looking scared, but then the threat paused and Juno tricked BJ with love, and then went right back to Lydia. The whole family trying to protect her...veyr soft

because i end up basically writing fan fiction of my own projects when i’m procrastinating on said project if i ever manage to actually publish something, i will one hundred percent have an ao3 account on which i write fanfic for my own shit

maybe i’ll even like, make reference to fanfic during like, an interview or something, like making reference to the fact that i’m active on ao3 or just in the fandom community in general and watch as the fandom loses it 

and i’d one hundred percent be active in the fan community, no matter how small, just like, making fandom friends and shit, it’d be so fun to see what ships rise to the top and what headcanons become super popular in fandom spaces for my characters

and like, with ships especially because in two of the main projects i’m currently working on all the main characters are some flavor of bi/pan (and a secondary protagonist from one who might end up as a main character because i like her is a poly lesbian) with one focused around two guys and two girls and the other around two girls and one guy so, like, i’m two hundred percent leaving the door wide open for shippers to have their ways with them

in one project actually i have a whole thing with two of the characters being “dating but not really” and they’re literally fake dating in canon to get their parents off their back, and if that’s not fandom bait i don’t know what is

see this is the problem, like i have all these dreams of people falling in love with my characters the same way i’ve fallen in love with so many in the past but actually writing is so hard, so i just daydream about a hypothetical fandom space for my writing (and i wonder what “hot takes” born of misunderstanding fundamental parts of both character and story would arise) then i have to remind myself that it doesn’t exist and might not ever exist because writing is hard as fuck y’all

like i want to read all the bad and out of character au’s, and i want to see who runs the tattoo parlor and who owns the flower shop, and i want to see fan art, and i want to know about everyone’s interpretations of my characters and i want to know what small reference from one of them will become integral to their personality in fandom, and i want people to love these characters the same way that i love them, but for that i have to actually write, and actually finish something, and actually get it published and etc etc etc and it’s such a laundry list

like i don’t even want to be famous or anything, i don’t care about that and i wouldn’t want to be shoved into the spotlight, but i want people to get a chance to get to know all my characters, i want them to sympathize with tara, laugh with ava, roll their eyes with luke, smile with rachel, get exasperated with alex, fight side by side with kai, hunt with indie, pity jaz, hell, i want them to stand by rosie, rebel with em, stay strong with kat, run with micky, i want them to know these characters, and these worlds i have constructed in my head, i want them to be able to lose themselves in these stories and characters

i want to see my characters through a fandom’s eyes, and i want to know what crossovers get written, i want to know what hogwarts house everyone gets assigned and why, i want to know what crack ships are fan favorites, i want to know what percy jackson cabin the fandom thinks they fit, i want all the stupid au’s, i want to see all the high school and college au’s, hell, who studies what at college, i want to scroll through a tag on tumblr, or ao3, hell, wattpad, and be able to think to myself that, hey, i wrote that source material

and i want

i just desperately want to know what people think of these pieces of me that i’ve molded and given names, how they get characterized

like kai, is he the fandom “uwu soft boy” because he has anxiety? or is he the fandom badass because he’s known for getting into fights? (and how many au’s take away the fact that he’s mute?)

is indie the cool and stoic rebel who smokes and wears all black and combat boots? or is she dangerously reckless and self-destructive? or is she just the fandom slut because she flirts and sleeps around? (and how often are her unhealthy coping mechanisms turned into mere personality traits?)

does rachel get pegged as the fandom’s “literal sunshine child has never done anything wrong ever”? or is she seen as boring in comparison to the other characters? (and how much of her symbolism gets caught?)

is ava the “soft uwu bby girl who must be protected at all costs”? or is she just a bitch who pokes her nose into things that don’t involve her because she stands up for people? (and how often does the fandom forget she needs glasses? how often do they forget she’s a star runner?)

is luke just the book smart source-of-important-information? or is he cold and calculated because he knows how to use a gun? (and how often is the fact that most of his family is alive get glossed over?)

is tara a cold bitch who keeps too many secrets and hides things from those close to her? or is she self destructive and half-suicidal because of all her trauma? (and how often is she a demon in au’s?)

is alex just the dad-friend and nothing more? or is he cast aside and forgotten because he seems boring compared to his far more traumatized peers? (and how often is the fact that he’s a star sports player forgotten?)

is jaz simplified down to “cold shallow rich bitch who only cares about appearances”? or is she seen as heavily traumatized and very mentally ill? (and how are her parents seen, are they the fandom’s john winchester, or are they just forgotten and shoved to the side?)

i desperately want to know how these characters are seen, and even simplified down by a fandom game of telephone, leaving only their most recognizable traits

what color is every character assigned? is jaz gold as i intended? does ava get pastel pink? is alex green? is kai gray or orange? is tara maroon-y purple? does indie get black? is luke dark yellow or blue? does rachel get strawberry blonde? 

what’s their most recognizable outfit or accessory? is it ava’s sweets skirt, kai’s hoodie? alex’s sports jersey, jaz’s fake nails? indie’s gun holster and black canvas jacket, tara’s combat boots? luke’s hoodie, rachel’s sneakers?

what fanwork gains a fandom of its own? is it super angsty like twist and shout(which i have not read)? or is it soft and almost hopeful the way not easily conquered is? is it a heavy au, or is it simply canon divergent?

who are the fan favorites? and who gets brushed to the side in favor of said fan favorites? who’s always wildly out of character, and who stays true to their original form?

what’s the fandom as a whole like? is it wildly toxic or mostly okay? how common are blow-out ship wars? what are the ship wars like? are there ships that stay on the sidelines? which ones start shit the most often? how many people just say “fuck it” and go poly to avoid that shit?

what questions would fans ask at like, panels or during an ama or something? i dream up questions people might ask sometimes, mostly to try and practice explaining things that i feel might be misinterpreted, but what would they really care about?

i know all of this is a pipe dream, books don’t gain the same notoriety on tumblr as tv shows and movies do, percy jackson and harry potter are stark exceptions but i have no hope that i’ll write something half as culturally relevant as either of them, but i dunno, i just think about it sometimes, and i wonder, and i want.

Chocolate Geodes (Part 1?)

Summary:John drunk texts Alex.

A/N: This is based on things that have actually happened to me… I’m like so unsure what to do haha. Also should I consider a part 2? I have ideas for it but like I dunno let me know.

Alexander was lazing on his couch, his girlfriend Jessica tucked under his arm, they were watching a random episode of Friends on Netflix, the night was slow, the rain was pattering outside their apartment building, things almost felt too perfect.

Alex felt his phone vibrate under his leg where he tucked it when Jessica leaned on him. He pulled it out from under him, John’s name brightly flashed on the screen, as he unlocked it, he noticed the time and knew it must have been late from where John was.

John moved two years back, it was only a few states away but the time zones were a few hours ahead.

John: 11:30pm

Hey :)

Alex smiled, it had been a few weeks since they last spoke.

Alex: 11:31pm

Hey, whats up?

“Who’s that?” Asked Jessica leaning over watching him text. “Oh its just John, we’re just catching up.” She nodded and relaxed on his arm.

John: 11:40pm

Not much, Laf is here… Hey I’m gunna b in town in a few days, was wundering if u wanted to hng.

Alex let out a light laugh as he scanned over the message once more.

John: 11:41pm

Also me and Laf hav been drinkin

Alexander rolled his eyes.

Alex: 11:42pm

Aha, I can tell. Sure thing I’d love to see you

Alexander and John had always been close, in high school everyone basically thought they were together with the amount of time they had spent together in between classes and outside of school.

But they didn’t care, they knew their friendship was unlike anyone elses. Though their sexuality was constantly joked about, they were both out John as gay and Alexander as Bi, it took Alex a long time to find someone that didn’t find his sexuality demeaning, and now he had that with Jessica, perfection.

But John and Alex continued their weird sexual jokes to each other, it was always harmless.

When John moved Alexander took him to the bus station to say goodbye, they had both kept their emotions intact, but as soon as it was time for him to leave they hugged and Alexander could feel John shaking and his tears soaking into his shirt. He lost it after that.

The buzz pulled Alex from his train of thought

John: 11:50pm

Hey,  I’m not tht bad. Cool, I’ll be in Satrday

Alexander chuckled and pushed his phone back under his leg assuming the conversation was over, but a few minutes went by and another buzz came from his leg, Alex assumed it would be some random gibberish, he was close.

John: 12am

HAVE U SEEN THE CHOCLATE GEODE1!?

Alexander let out a chuckle and responded quickly

Alex: 12am

No I haven’t

A second later he got a video sent his way of a giant chocolate ball that had candy crystals inside it, aka a chocolate geode.

Alexander got a sudden growl in his stomach as he finished the video.

Alex: 12:05am

OHMYGOD WE NEED IT

John: 12:06am

This is a thng we need in our livs.

Alexander had a smile glued to his face as the conversation continued, Jessica was dozing on his chest, he pulled her in closer as her eyes drifted.

Alex: 12:07am

There was a silence, Alexander began to worry, did he push him too far, what should he say back to that? He hated forced small talk. The buzz in his hand cleared his worry.

Alexanders breath hitched, he was nervous. They were always flirting like that, but this never came up. Alex had assumptions but never said anything.

Was John just drunk?

Was… was he being truthful?

Was it time truths came out…?

John: 12:26am

Whn we were in highschool.

Alex: 12:26am

Alex would admit to himself that he wasn’t sure what he was going to say, he was just asking pointless questions till he knew what he would do.

John: 12:26am

Couldnt tell u. But I knw it would never happem.

Alexander paused and watched his phone…

Well. How do you know?

His chest hurt from his heart pounding so hard. Why was this freaking him out so much, he was just drunk.

John: 12:30am

Cuse we were too good of friends. Plus i think you were still perssuing Maria

Alexander mentally groaned, he remembered Maria, she was abusive towards him always bringing him down. They were constantly on and off in high school.

He remembered how crazy he was back then, thinking they would spend the rest of their lives together… in high school.

They never lasted more than a month when they got back together, and he could feel his friends loath them both when they would cuddle.

Alex: 12:33am

Ohh man. Fuck Maria. Biggest mistake of my life.

John: 12:34am

Ya. Whatta dick

Alexander stopped answering once more.

His high school life flooded back to him, all the times Laf and him got wasted and made out, and the next day it would mean nothing, they only did it for attention.

When Hercules and John dated and how horrible it hurt when they broke up, they eventually got over it and the group went back to normal.

The times they got bullied in school for being who they were by Charles and his gang of assholes.  

The times John would clean Alex up after he would stand up to them and get beat down.

The times John and him went shopping after school on mondays and thursdays just to avoid going home.

Alex sighed as he flipped through the messages they currently had.

He held his breath as he typed out his message

Alex: 12:40am

Well… I had a crush on you too.

John: 12:40am

Really? When?

Alex released his breath, his texts seemed less and less drunk. Was this all some trap? Was he getting some gossip on him?

The crush was back in high school. There was nothing there now.

Alex: 12:41am

Ehhh. It was weird. It was after you dated Herc.

But I thought it would have been too weird.

Jessica shifted from her snoozing position, “Mmm. I’m gunna go to bed.” she mumbled out.

Alexander nodded staring at his phone. Jessica waved in front of his face. “Hello?” She asked, he raised his head and gave her a gentle smile.

“I’ll join you in a bit.” Jessica snorted. “Have fun” she said as she moved towards the bedroom. “Night my love.” he shouted down the hallway. “See you soon.” she shouted back closing the door behind her.

John: 12:43am

Haha, i dont think it wouldve been weird.

Alex was nervous, was spouting too much information at once. He felt like he was the drunk one.

Alexander got up and started heading to bed. This wouldn’t change anything. John will get up tomorrow and tell him it was a joke and Alex will agree, and everyone will move one.

Alex stood in the hallway. What was he so worried about, they were talking about past crushes, they no longer existed.

He crawled into bed beside a lightly snoring Jessica.

He flipped through his phone, rereading the messages to see if this was on big set up. Or joke.

Or something like they always do.

But it was nothing

John told him he HAD a crush Alex told him he also HAD a crush. Had, in the past.

Nothing more

Alexanders eyes began to close a his phone vibrated one more time in his hands.

John: 1:15am

I never thought that would come out. But it seemed appropriate.
