hey just so you know, nightshade and glaze don't actually work, and in some cases make ai art better (https://www.tumblr.com/pitaden/740325397167734784/nightshade-itself-wasnt-meant-to-prevent-art for some more info), pretty much the only defense is to use a recognizable, consistently placed watermark (as the ai models will often end up including a fuzzy version of this to images that are mostly based on a specific artist). nightshade is actually just a toootal scam
please stop sending me shit like this. I know you think youâre trying to be helpful, but a watermark is pointless. Glaze has been updated and it works fine based on my own tests, and Iâve seen no evidence that glaze helps models to become better.

I'm just going to cut right to the chase. I don't post anything usually for Ao3 exclusively since I'm fairly new into the fanfiction game and this is the first time I've been involved in this, but I need so say something before someone gets hurt.
If you've receive a comment like this on your fic on Ao3 in the past few days:
đTHIS IS A SCAMđ
This registered user that goes by the username FairyTaless (who is likely a bot) is trying to scam people out of money to get commissions for fanfics. They've been leaving their mark on a ton of works recently and while Reddit seems to have picked up on this, I'm seeing very little for it on here. Do not ask for a commission or DM this individual. You will get your money taken away and will receive no art for it.
The Ao3 subreddit automated response describes signs of a scam bot as this (thanks to @draconeye45 for helping me out):
"Often times the comment starts out normal, generally complimenting the story. It might use vague terms like âuniqueâ without going into detail, and namedrop the ficâs title. It might mention emotions invoked by the story without elaborating on what those emotions are. It then goes on to mention that they want to create an artwork based off your ficâoften a drawing, but sometimes a fancomic or other fanwork. They often come from registered accounts, and will always offer a way to take it off of AO3 to another platform like Discord, Instagram, or email. This is because AO3 bans mention of monetization, so they bury the lede in the comment in the hopes of bringing up commission off-site. However, these scams are always adapting and changing, so this is not an exhaustive nor definitive list. What remains the same is that there is no genuine art at the endâat best, people have reported receiving AI art, but more commonly nothing at all. As a subreddit, we do not recommend engaging with these comments beyond reporting them to AO3 and/or deleting them or marking them as spam."
So no matter what fandom you're in...spread the word that this is happening. Do not let someone who desperately wants a commission get scammed. Report this user to Ao3 immediately if you have a comment on your fic like the one I received. And I encourage users to try to get into contact with Ao3 about this to prevent it from continuing and spreading.
And please, if you want a commission, look for a real artist who's offering them. Check profiles for credibility first before asking.
