Main Characters

These are the main characters in the Hatty Family AU. All of these characters are characters that have huge steaks within the main plot.

Hat Kid: (Real name: Heni Hour. Pronouns she/they) is an adventurous and fun little alien who has been to many places around the galaxy in her trusty spaceship. Hat Kid is tasked with taking down her family on behalf of the Spacetime Federation in exchange for her own freedom and complete forgiveness of her many MANY crimes.

Chief Officer Dial: (Pronouns: He/It) Head official of the Spacetime Federation, tasked with maintaining order in the galaxy. He was in charge of aprehending Hat Kid, but saw an opportunity that would benefit both her and him, she would help the Federation apprehend her family and she wouldn't get punished for her crimes. His motives aren't selfless though, as it seems he might have alterior intentions.

Father Time: (Real Name: Theos Time Pronouns: He/They) Father of Hat Kid and Sally Second. His love for his family is incredibly intense, almost as intense as the rituals he conducts in service of the stars he worships. A very eccentric fellow with an eccentric following for sure. His dad jokes often go over heads.

Mother Minute: (Real Name: Marie Minute Pronouns She/her) Mother of Hat Kid and Sally Second. A creative diva at heart for sure, though she can get easily carried away with her artistic displays and shows. She hopes to one day be the shiniest star in the galaxy.

Sally Second: (Pronouns She/they) Younger sister of Hat Kid by two years. They love to bake, and aspire to be an entrepreneur in the baking industry. Her delicious creations can get a little chaotic, but they help to get rid of unruly customers. She may have a stern face, but Sally is very happy when partaking in their craft.

Many more characters await in this story, faces old and new! Hopefully some are less hostile than others...

Sweet Love Soiree 2k19: The Interview

Oh? It looks like a certain reporter may have snuck into the event, and isn’t pleased with all this skeevy press. Time to write a proper article on this mess.

Jules Saint-Michelle stands tucked away off to the side, adjusting her scarf. Except…her Furfrou isn’t by her side. Instead, a Hawlucha sits on her shoulders, head poking up from behind her own. After finishing with her scarf and a visible deep breath, she looks up-and her gaze falls on you. Despite her obvious tension, her eyes and smile are warm and inviting as she waves at you, beckoning you over.

Will you entertain a few of her questions?

To clear up some past confusion, please keep in mind that Jules is a writer for Lumiose Press, and not a television/Holocast reporter. This is especially important for this one because she means it when she wants privacy for this interview-there’s no film crew or anything.

Due to the residual drama from AHF, a little reminder that because Jules places a high value on integrity and confidentiality, your muse can absolutely request anonymity, or for something they say to be ‘off the record’ if they decide they don’t want something to be published (for example, some detail that only they might know). Just make sure you mention the request so other muns are aware.

Some of these are going to be repeat questions for the sake of character development and not honing in on the drama right away. New questions will be marked with a *.

These questions are open to anyone participating in the event! Some may be geared towards certain roles, like voting, but if you can find a way to change up the wording so it works for your muse, go for it!

You’re free to cut out questions if you want; this is just meant to be a fun thing.

As a side note, Jules is not currently in disguise as Mireille, but chances are that any other time your muse sees her during this event she will be in disguise. If these two similar women seem suspicious to your muse at all, you’re free to pursue that via thread or anything. As long as Jules gets a chance to do her freestyle I’m game for most stuff, maybe just run it by me first so I know.

* (For AHF participants) “How have things changed for you since October? Has anything exciting happened?”

* (For contestants) “Which have you decided to do first: your Theme or your Freestyle? Why did you chose that order? Which do you feel more confident about?”

* (For contestants) Can you give us any hints about either of your performances? Without spoiling it, what do you think will make your entries stand out?”

(For contestants) “How did you chose the Pokémon partners you’ll be using in this competition? Are you trying to stick with the Valentine’s Day theme, or going with Pokémon that have experience competing?”

* “I know there was a lot of drama regarding scoring during the Derosier’s last event, to put it mildly. How do you think things will change now that there’s a second main judge? Are there any other changes you think should have been made for the sake of transparency or fairness?”

*-ish “It’s pretty clear from AHF that Ursula struggles with personal biases in judging. Does this raise any concerns for you? Or do you think that your/ the best performers’ talent(s) will shine through enough to keep you/them safe from any bribery-boosted scores?”

* “Speaking of, I know that Ursula brought Lotor on as a judge in hopes of leveling the playing field, so to speak. But that brings their own relationship into play. So…what do you think as them as a couple? And as judges, do you believe they’ll be able to judge independently of each other?”

* (For voters) “What are you looking for in contestant’s performances? What makes a Theme or Freestyle stand out as extraordinary in your eyes? If drama does erupt, do you have any thoughts on how you’ll keep yourself unbiased?”

* (For contestants and spectators) “Do you think more judges and voters in general will lead to more accurate, unbiased scores? Or are you worried about anyone playing favorites?”

* “What other changes do you hope have occurred since AHF that will make for an overall better Showcase experience, be it for performers, voters, or spectators?”

* “How would you describe the current atmosphere here, in light of these changes? Hopeful? Uncertain?”

“Is there anything else you’d like to say about this competition? I’m admittedly going to leave soon to get this article going, but I hope everything goes smoothly for you!”

* (Off the record) “Do you have any other thoughts about this event, or any suspicions? I’m not going to publish them since, like I said, I’m not one for rumors. But I personally want to know what I might want to be keeping an eye on in case things do happen. Have you seen or heard anything suspicious?”

“By all means go ahead, I am not hidding anything. I only speak the truth.”

“Tell me a bit about yourself, mon ami(e). Is this your first competition, or if it’s not, how long have you been participating? Have you participated, specifically, in a Trainer Showcase before?”

“I am sorry but I am not one of the entrants or voters in this event. Maybe another time.”

“What sort of background do you come from-are you a trainer, a breeder, a coordinator, or perhaps something else? Do you see this giving you any advantage in the competition/as a voter/ect.?”

“I am Johto and Kanto regions’ champion, though my stay here has nothing to do with the Pokemon League. I am here for more, personal reasons- after all I am the heir to the Wataru clan. The richest and most influential clan back at homeland.”

“I can see how people may think that my social status could influence in a few things during my stay. But since we aren’t in Johto, those are nothing more than just rumors.”

“What are your thoughts on the competition here today? It looks like we have quite a diverse cast of Pokémon fans present. Anyone you know? Rivals, perhaps?”

“Yes I do know a few people who are attending this event. In fact...I brought someone with me.”

“Besides Morty, who I invited to come with me. I have run into a former League colleague, Steven Stone- who used to be Hoenn’s champion. I heard a former challenger was attending here- Lyra, but I still haven’t seen her around here.”

“How are you feeling about this showcase in general? Are you nervous at all?”

“Contests in general have never caught my interest, so we will see how this one goes. Who knows, this might be the one to change my views on it.”

* “Were you here for the All Hallows Faire, or did you tune into that? If so, has that affected any of your choices going into this event?”

“No, but a former employee of mine was. Agatha, she was one of the entrants. This is how I was informed of these events.”

* “I know there was a lot of drama regarding scoring during the Derosier’s last event, to put it mildly. How do you think things will change now that there’s a second main judge? Are there any other changes you think should have been made for the sake of transparency or fairness?”

“Really now? I wasn’t aware of such thing...Well from my own personal experience, I don’t think things will change in the slightest. I am not giving any reasons or explanations as to why that would be.”

“I also don’t think any changes should be made, we are all looking for entertainment around here. Aren’t we?”

*-ish “It’s pretty clear from AHF that Ursula struggles with personal biases in judging. Does this raise any concerns for you? Or do you think that your/ the best performers’ talent(s) will shine through enough to keep you/them safe from any bribery-boosted scores?”

“I didn’t know contests were like this after all, It seems like this event may truly have what it would take to change my views on it.”

The champion let out a chuckle as he resumed to talk.

“Contests in general seem to be pretty biased by their own nature, correct me if I am wrong. But no matter how skilled the contestant may be, if they happen to have even the slightest beef with one of the judges...They might as well just throw the towell.”

“Since I can’t stand these things, I have always avoided the contests. I’d say that they serve to somehow, make the battle frontier look simple.”

* “Speaking of, I know that Ursula brought Lotor on as a judge in hopes of leveling the playing field, so to speak. But that brings their own relationship into play. So…what do you think as them as a couple? And as judges, do you believe they’ll be able to judge independently of each other?”

“I have never seen or heard of this Lotor, so I have nothing to say on him. The same can be said about Ursula- she reminds me of a relative of mine. Don’t take it as a compliment nor a complain.”

“Do I look like the guy that minds other people’s relationships? I already have my wedding to tend to, thank you very much.”

“I guess we will find out by the end of this event, wouldn’t you agree miss.Jules?”

*“Do you think more judges and voters in general will lead to more accurate, unbiased scores? Or are you worried about anyone playing favorites?”

“It only means more votes to count down in the end, everyone has their own bias. It is just that no one has the nerve to admit it. They will pick whoever they want to, for their own reasons. It is not that deep or complicated to understand.”

“We are not in a pokemon battle, this isn’t about the strongest or the most skilled.”

* “What other changes do you hope have occurred since AHF that will make for an overall better Showcase experience, be it for performers, voters, or spectators?”

“As I said miss.Jules. I wasn’t the last event, so I am not quite sure what happened back there.”

* “How would you describe the current atmosphere here, in light of these changes? Hopeful? Uncertain?”

“I’d say uncertain, at least as far as I am aware of. Though it doesn’t seem to be so clear...There seems to be a lot more people who didn’t show up to the All Hallow’s faire.”

“Is there anything else you’d like to say about this competition? I’m admittedly going to leave soon to get this article going, but I hope everything goes smoothly for you!”

“Let’s hope that this show is worth of our time, let the games begin as some people might say it.”

* (Off the record) “Do you have any other thoughts about this event, or any suspicions? I’m not going to publish them since, like I said, I’m not one for rumors. But I personally want to know what I might want to be keeping an eye on in case things do happen. Have you seen or heard anything suspicious?”

Lance goes quiet for a moment, as he recollects his past few days so far.

“Steven Stone...I don’t recall...No, I don’t really have anything to say. Have a good day miss.Jules.”

Hats

For the sake of this blog I'm going to assume that people know about gameplay mechanics, such as hats and weapons, from A Hat in Time. But in case they don't, I will restate them as they function the same in this au.

Hats are a gameplay mechanic that allows Hat Kid to interact with her environments in unique and fashionable ways. In AHF specificly, Hats are made by collecting yarn and finding blueprints. Once a blueprint for a new Hat is acquired, Hat Kid can use yarn she is able to find around the different chapter locations to make said hat.

Hats are activated by pressing a button or key on the player's choice of controller. Some hats may have a cooldown effect after being used, which can vary in length. This was present in A Hat in Time.

Types of hats

Kid's Hat: This hat is the only hat not earned from a blueprint, but is instead acquired during the tutorial phase. This hat is able to locate goal-related objects, such as timepieces, plot related items, or boss locations.

Sprint Hat: This hat allows the player to run faster, which is useful in boss fights or time-based challenges like those in Death Wish missions. When paired with some badges, the Hat will gain a cosmetic change where instead of running, Hat Kid will instead ride on a scooter.

Brewing Hat: This hat allows Hat Kid to throw an explosive ranged attack. This is good for bossfights or enemies you don't want to get close to.

Ice Hat: This hat turns Hat Kid into an ice sculpture, how cool! If activated over a spring or launch pad, hat Kid will be able to bounce incredibly high. If activated near enemies, an icy shockwave will slip them up and make them tumble to the floor.

Dweller Mask: This mask allows Hat Kid to manipulate solid blue and transparent green platforms so that she may cross them.

Timestop Hat: This hat allows Hat Kid to freeze time for a few seconds. This can give her a leg up in speed-centered platforming areas, races, or can help her bypass fast moving objects.

Hover Hat(New to AHF): Based on the cut concept from A Hat in Time, this hat allows Hat Kid to glide for a few seconds after activation. Once the hat activates, Hat Kid will slowly drift downwards, and can move in any direction. The length of this glide can help her reach far-away platforms. This hat functions like a tanuki leaf power up in the Mario 3D land/world games.

Gravity Hat(New to AHF): This hat allows Hat Kid to reach high vertical platforms when activated. In this brief state, Hat Kid's movement is slowed, and she will be unable to attack.

Yarn and Blueprints

Unlike in the original Hat in Time game, Hats are not obtained by collecting certain types if yarn and having a certain amount of yarn required to stitch the hat.

In the au, Hat Kid can obtain blueprints, which are instructions on how to make new hats. These can be obtained in treasure chests, secret rooms, or are given to hat Kid as a means of plot progression.

Hat Kid can't just make a new hat by collecting a blueprints though, as the instructions on the blueprints require yarn. Yarn is a collectable item and consumable resource placed around the different chapters of the game. Once Hat Kid collects enough yarn, she can use said yarn to make the hats blueprints allow her to make.

Guide Post

This blog is a dedicated blog to the Hat in Time AU: A Hatty Family. The au acts as a fan-made sequel to A Hat in Time, which the creator @gigilefache (me) put WAY too much effort into over the past couple of years. But I'm very happy with it :3. It was suggested that I make a blog for this AU since it's got a lot of content and there is quite a bit of art that I can put here.
