Kill Six Billion Demons is really... feminist
the world is patriarchal, and that was obvious from ‘Kings’ - the way the world is male-default, the assumption that Allison’s boyfriend is the Successor for no obvious other reason really, the angels being ‘brothers’, all the mafia on top being male, all the brothel slaves being ‘ladies’. it balances all of this so well, though. Why? Because our perspective is a female one, one of female agency. There ARE female kings throughout history, female gods and female warriors. They simply operate within a patriarchal structure - ‘worse, the multiverse is ruled by men’ says Cio spitefully. She goes on to extend a hand in women’s solidarity to Allison. And now here is the first of seven remaining corrupted god-kings, the ‘goddess’ of Glory. and the King of Om took her as a girl for her beauty and she usurped him and his long patriarchal line but remained imprisoned by the patriarchal demands: having to be a youthful beautiful queen forever - but I love how Allison points out what is true: the Queen of Om suffered and suffers, but she is one of the seven most powerful entities in the multiverse and continuing this destruction of the world and imprisonment of the self (simultaneously her only comfort) is wholly her own decision.
i love how the myths are all about the god-women, good or evil, foolish or just. Prim and Het -  and Aesma? brilliant. And the parallels with the main story? Two different stories on the institution of marriage. Aesma looking for an evil husband and the priests with their patriarchal bullshit making the fantastic mistake of thinking a husband will rein her in, her promise to keep to her husband’s every commandment will rid her of her ‘womanly vice’ LOL
meanwhile the Queen of Om still feeds her husband’s corpse with the lifeblood of millions of young women given to her in tribute. She doesn’t only betray her roots by being an imperialist bastard - having come from the mud herself - she betrays other women completely just to create her own respite. AND SHE KNOWS IT. ‘everything’s rotting’ and then... ‘the days are like water’ ah yes
I LOVE THIS.
lol. SLAPPED. this is the moment. stagnation, fear of change, one rots. taking responsibility, doing, acting, impacting, one rises.
‘you know what bitch? at least im trying’
YESSSS
and the Queen cries...
and the girl who survived the Queen’s slaughter due to Allison’s intervention is exactly the skilled girl that the Queen once was - both taken purely for their flesh.
