ఌ︎. mercury conjunct rahu or mercury in rahu nakshatras people can speak in a very unique way, you will immediately notice when they talk that something is strange or abnormal. they may speak with a lisp or an accent that is not conventional
ఌ︎. mercury in sharavan people are highly intelligent, inquisitive and educated. however, i notice that these people can sometimes be too logical & rational in thought. they can be the types to associate matter of fact thinking to already established truths rather than thinking outside of the box
ఌ︎. mula nakshatra sitting upon the cusp of a particular house in your chart can indicate an uprooting, detaching or destructive theme associated to that area of life. the same goes for people who have a planet placed here other than the nodes, whichever house that planet rules will be relevant. if you see this in your chart i recommend to plant a tree or bonsai with the intention of re-growth and flourishment to that area of life. this is a very strong nakshatra remedy for troublesome mula placements
ఌ︎. uttara-bhadprada nakshatra people are wise beyond their years & have an intuition that is quite literally out of this world. they can find themselves so absorbed within their inner worlds, deep and introspective kinds of people. they may find themselves feeling quite lonely or internally troubled for this reason. but i absolutely adore these people so much, they are very magnetic in a mysteriously forceful way
ఌ︎. sun in punarvasu people may take time to get their path in life right but once they find their light they are sure to succeed. this is the kind of placement where i would say follow your heart, as clique as that sounds this is a star that blesses people with many attempts in life. they may struggle to see tangible bounds in way for what they desire to achieve in life. they have unlimited potential
ఌ︎. taurus ascendants or moon in 3rd house people may be naturally inclined toward activities or hobbies they can do in the home. this can literally be anything, they just rather be within a domestic or comfy environment while they enjoy whatever it is they take interest in
ఌ︎. libra ascendants usually attract lovers and spouses who are very masculine and rough around the edges - i have seen this countless times
ఌ︎. rohini nakshatra people can be targets of unusual or controversial infatuations within intimate relationships, especially sexually. this sometimes shameful infatuation with rohini people is commonly associated with the mythological story of brahma’s daughter (brahma is rohini’s ruling deity)
ఌ︎. 6th house in a person’s chart & the associated planets & nakshatras are a huge indicator of why other people may despise, compete with you or become jealous of you - so stay aware & protect yourself x additionally houses cusps or planets in scorpio, tend indicate a similar attraction of great jealousy
ఌ︎. moon in revati women usually can become amazing mothers, considering no bad afflictions. it was almost as though they were made for taking care of children or even animals
ఌ︎. venus in visakha women are most likely very monogamous. although they can become highly obsessive and fixated over their partners. despite how intense these lovers are they are very loyal
ఌ︎. sun in ardra people tend to give the best advice. there words may be harsh and difficult to hear, but it shows that they have gone through their own struggles in life and wishes to push others forth in the right direction
ఌ︎. aquarius ascendants usually attract lovers and spouses who are bold and confident, even egotistical but they usually see past and accepts their partner's looks and façade of greatness. don't get me wrong though their partners are intelligent and attractive people

For years following his highly publicized antisemitic outbursts, Mel Gibson couldn’t find much work in Hollywood.
But now he’s back in the filmmaking capital — as Donald Trump’s “special ambassador.”
The president-elect announced Thursday he was appointing the actor-director, along with fellow conservative celebrities Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone, to the newly created role of “Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.”
In his Truth Social post Trump provided few details of what such a role would entail, but hinted that Gibson and the others would push his ideas on the entertainment industry, and that he would lean on them for advice on the subject.
“They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!” Trump wrote days ahead of his inauguration. “These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”
Hollywood’s Golden Age featured prominent Jewish talent and studio executives. Gibson, meanwhile, has become better known in recent years for his antisemitism.
In 2006, arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, the “Braveheart” star shouted, “F—ing Jews,” adding, “The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,” and asking his arresting officer if she was Jewish.
The incident came only two years after the initial release of “The Passion of the Christ,” a controversial biopic of Jesus that Jewish groups said dramatized antisemitic canards about Jews being responsible for Jesus’ death.
Gibson — whose father Hutton was a prominent Holocaust denier — later apologized for his drinking, and also issued an apology to “everyone in the Jewish community” through the Anti-Defamation League. “There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of Anti-Semitic remark,” Gibson wrote in his statement at the time, adding a plea to members of the Jewish community to “help me on my journey through recovery.” Still, his reputation among the Jewish community took a nosedive, as did his career for a brief time.
His reputation took another hit a few years later when he made graphic and racist threats of domestic violence to his then-spouse. The actress Winona Ryder, who is Jewish, has also accused him of calling her an “oven dodger,” an allusion to the Holocaust.
But despite the setbacks, Gibson was never out of the game completely, and in recent years has reentered Hollywood with success. In 2016 his World War II drama “Hacksaw Ridge,” starring Jewish actor Andrew Garfield as a Christian conscientious objector, was nominated for six Oscars including best picture and best director for Gibson. He has said he plans to film a follow-up to “The Passion” next year.
Trump has sworn to curtail antisemitism during his second term in office. Himself a longtime fixture of show business, the president-elect has long exhibited a love-hate relationship with Hollywood. While he gained resurgent fame with his reality show “The Apprentice” in the 2000s, he frequently used his first term’s bully pulpit to attack celebrities who criticized him. And he had harsh words for the film industry after the 2019 South Korean thriller “Parasite” won best picture at the Oscars, the first non-English-language film to do so.
“And the winner is a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about?” he said at a rally shortly after the ceremony. “Can we get ‘Gone With the Wind’ back, please? ‘Sunset Boulevard’?”
In 2017, Gibson reportedly made donations to a Holocaust survivor organization. Last year he endorsed Trump in the presidential election, and last week his Malibu home burned down in the ongoing Los Angeles fires.

Trump is appointing three washed-up actors as "ambassador to Hollywood" in order to bring back the "Golden Age of Hollywood". Which has historical precedent: there was an ambassador to Hollywood in the Golden Age, too. His name was Georg Gyssling and he was sent by Hitler to monitor the activities of Hollywood studios. To make sure their films didn't say anything anti-Nazi, resulting in many attempts at anti-fascist films being shut down by the Hays Code. Just a fun historical Hollywood fact there

South Korea on Shaky Ground: Political Turmoil and Economic Uncertainty
South Korea finds itself in the midst of a complex political and economic quagmire following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s controversial declaration of martial law. The decision, which saw armed forces deployed to the streets of Seoul for six tense hours, was swiftly overturned by a unanimous parliamentary vote. However, the short-lived decree has had long-lasting repercussions, triggering political instability and economic apprehension. Learn more about navigating such uncertainties at Rich Smart FX.
Political Instability Amplifies
Han Dong-hoon of the People Power Party disclosed shocking claims last Friday, alleging that Yoon had ordered the arrest of opposition politicians on the night of the martial law declaration. “Keeping the president in office risks putting the nation’s people in danger,” Han said during a parliamentary address. Such revelations have further damaged Yoon’s credibility, raising questions about his judgment and ability to lead a nation already grappling with economic challenges. Gain insight into safeguarding your investments at Axel Private Market.
Investor Confidence Wavers
Investor confidence has been shaken, with fears of a recession in 2024 gaining traction. South Korea’s reliance on international trade leaves it particularly vulnerable, especially with the impending Trump administration likely to introduce changes to global trade policies. Economists warn that failure to quickly address the current political instability could result in dire economic consequences for South Korea, including diminished investor interest and potential policy clashes with major trading partners. These concerns emphasize the importance of effective forex portfolio planning. For actionable advice, visit DBGM FX.
Domestically, the political climate remains volatile. The ruling party has surprisingly called for Yoon’s suspension, making the prospect of impeachment more likely. Should this happen, Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo would temporarily assume the presidency while the Constitutional Court deliberates. A decision could take months, prolonging the uncertainty. Public sentiment is visibly souring, with Yoon’s approval rating plummeting to 16%, according to Gallup Korea. Protests are erupting across the country, demanding his impeachment and calling for a shift in leadership.
Economic Fallout Looms
Markets, unsurprisingly, have reacted negatively. South Korea’s KOSPI index dropped 1.7%, while the won fell sharply to 1,425.42 against the dollar, nearing its lowest levels since the crisis began. To mitigate further economic fallout, the government has proposed measures to boost after-hours liquidity in the currency markets. Finance Minister Choi has downplayed fears of a recession, calling them “excessive,” and assured stakeholders that efforts to stabilize the economy are underway. Currency trading methods and effective algorithmic forex trading strategies are essential in such volatile market conditions to minimize losses and capitalize on market movements. Explore these strategies at GFS Markets.
However, not all analysts are convinced. A Bloomberg survey revealed a 33% chance of South Korea sliding into recession within the next 12 months. The finance ministry has pledged swift action if financial volatility worsens, but the lingering political unrest casts doubt over the effectiveness of these measures. For expert advice on managing risk, check out Top Max Global.
North Korea’s Influence
Externally, North Korea’s aggressive posturing adds another layer of complexity. President Yoon justified his martial law declaration as a measure to combat “anti-state forces” within the opposition Democratic Party, accusing them of collusion with North Korea. However, his failure to provide concrete evidence has only deepened public skepticism.
With rising tensions and heightened uncertainty, South Korea faces an uphill battle. Whether the government can navigate these treacherous waters remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the coming weeks will be pivotal in determining the nation’s political and economic trajectory. For investors and traders, utilizing the best forex trading bots and comparing the MetaTrader platforms can provide critical advantages in navigating these uncertain times. Alan Titchmarsh has issued a warning over the rewilding trend, but experts disagree…
“The rewilding trend is causing controversy once again.” www.idealhome.uk

“Alan Titchmarsh is one of the UK's most renowned gardening experts. In fact, for a very long time, he was likely the only gardening expert we could name off the top of our heads, which meant that we would always take his garden ideas as gospel.
Now, we already know that Alan isn't a fan of rewilding. Once upon a time, Alan insisted his opposition to the gardening technique –which Rewilding Britain says helps encourage 'the return of threatened and missing species, and embraces the ebb and flow of nature, allowing animals, plants, birds and the elements to shape our landscapes and habitats over time' – was simply down to a matter of taste.
Now, he's decided to try a different tactic, and claim that rewilding is bad for the environment. 'Domestic gardens, with their greater plant diversity, offer sustenance and shelter to wildlife from March through November, Nine months of nourishment'. A rewilded garden will offer nothing but straw and hay from August to March. A four-month flowering season is the norm.'
Alan, of course, previously urged the Royal Horticultural Society, which judges and organises the Chelsea Flower Show, to stop ‘pandering’ to this ecofriendly trend and instead celebrate gardening. The show’s ‘prime aim’ should be to ‘celebrate horticultural excellence’, wrote Alan in Country Life magazine.
Alan may mean well, but his words haven't been well received by gardening experts. Among those who have expressed disappointment over Alan's comments is Catherine Capon. 'It is my belief that rewilding and gardening are not mutually exclusive concepts, but rather can complement each other harmoniously,' says Catherine.
'Rather than viewing rewilding and gardening as an "either/or" situation, we can embrace an inclusive approach that combines the best of both worlds. And, by incorporating elements of rewilding into our gardens, we can create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also support and enhance local ecosystems.” https://www.idealhome.co.uk/garden/garden-advice/alan-titchmarsh-rewilding-comment-controversy

Delving Into Bone Casting: Ancient Divination Practices
Have you ever wondered about the ancient divination practices of bone casting? This fascinating and mysterious practice dates back thousands of years and is still used in some cultures today.
Delving into bone casting can provide a deeper understanding of the way that ancient civilizations made sense of the world around them and how they communicated with the divine.
Bone casting involves the use of animal bones, shells, and similar objects to divine the future or understand the present. It is a practice that has been used in cultures around the world, from ancient China to the indigenous tribes of North America.
By examining the origins and history of bone casting, the types of bones used, the techniques and interpretation methods, as well as cultural variations, we can gain a better understanding of this ancient practice and its modern-day relevance.
So, let us dive deeper into the world of bone casting and explore the mysteries of this ancient divination practice.
Origins and History of Bone Casting
You might be surprised to learn that bone casting has been around for thousands of years, with evidence of the practice dating back to ancient civilizations such as the Babylonians and Egyptians. It was believed that the bones of animals held a special power and could be used to communicate with the gods.
In many cultures, the bones were seen as a link between the living and the dead, and they were used to seek advice and guidance from ancestors and spirits. Over time, bone casting evolved and spread to other parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
Different cultures developed their own unique approaches to the practice, but the basic principles remained the same. Bones were chosen for casting based on their shape and size, and then they were thrown onto a surface or placed in a container and shaken until they formed a pattern.
This pattern was then interpreted to provide insight into a particular situation, answer a question, or offer guidance for the future.
Types of Bones Used in Casting
Different types of bones are commonly used for casting in divination rituals. Each type of bone carries its own unique energy and symbolism, making it an important tool in the practice of bone casting.
Animal bones are the most commonly used, with the bones of domesticated animals like cattle, sheep, and pigs being popular choices. These bones are believed to carry the energy of the animal they came from, and therefore can provide insight into the natural world and the cycles of life.
Bones from wild animals like deer, elk, and bear are also used in bone casting. These bones are thought to carry a wilder, more primal energy, and can provide insight into the mysteries of the natural world.
Some practitioners use human bones in their casting, although this practice is highly controversial and not widely accepted. No matter the type of bone used, each one is treated with respect and reverence, as they are seen as powerful tools for divination and spiritual growth.
Techniques and Interpretation Methods
Now let’s explore some common techniques and ways to interpret the messages revealed through bone casting. One technique is to simply toss the bones onto a cloth or other surface and observe how they land. The position and orientation of each bone can provide insight into the message being conveyed.
Some practitioners also use a specific pattern or layout for the bones, such as a cross or circle, which can add additional layers of meaning.
Interpretation methods vary widely among practitioners and depend on the individual’s personal beliefs and traditions. Some may rely on intuition and personal experience, while others may use established symbolism and meanings associated with each bone.
It’s important to note that bone casting should not be used as a substitute for professional medical or mental health services, but can be a valuable tool for gaining insight and guidance on life’s challenges. With practice and a respectful approach, bone casting can offer a unique and insightful perspective on one’s journey.
Cultural Variations in Bone Casting
There’s a wide range of cultural variations in how bone casting is practiced and interpreted.
In Africa, bone casting is often believed to be a way to communicate with the spirits of ancestors. The bones used in the practice are considered to be sacred and are believed to have power that can be used to gain insight into the future. The bones are often collected from animals that are believed to have a special connection to the spiritual world, such as antelopes or hyenas.
In Asia, bone casting is often used as a tool for divination in traditional Chinese medicine. The bones used in this practice are typically the bones of turtles or oxen and are believed to have healing properties. The bones are often inscribed with symbols that are thought to have a connection to the spiritual world, and they are used to diagnose illnesses and determine the proper course of treatment.
In both Africa and Asia, bone casting is a revered practice that is deeply rooted in cultural beliefs and traditions.
Modern Applications and Relevance of Bone Casting Today
Bone casting continues to captivate and inspire individuals today, as it offers a unique way to connect with the spiritual world and gain insight into the unknown. Many people use bone casting as a form of divination, seeking guidance and answers to their questions.
By throwing or casting the bones and interpreting their positions, individuals can gain a better understanding of their current situation and what actions they should take moving forward. In addition to seeking spiritual guidance, bone casting can also be used for personal growth and self-reflection.
The symbols and meanings of the bones can reveal subconscious thoughts and emotions, allowing individuals to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their inner workings. Overall, bone casting offers a powerful tool for those seeking to connect with the spiritual world and gain insight into themselves and their lives.
You now have a better understanding of the ancient divination practice of bone casting. You’ve learned about the origins and history of this practice, as well as the types of bones used for casting and the techniques and interpretation methods employed.
You’ve also gained insight into the cultural variations in bone casting across different regions and time periods. While bone casting may seem like a relic of the past, it’s still relevant today. Many people still practice this form of divination and find it to be a helpful tool for gaining insight and guidance in their lives.
Whether you’re interested in exploring bone casting as a personal practice or simply curious about this ancient tradition, there’s much to discover and learn from this fascinating divination technique.

Rape allegation: Lagos court remands Bishop Feyi Daniels in Kirikiri prison

Bishop Oluwafeyiropo (Feyi) Daniels on Monday appeared at the Lagos Special Offences Court in Ikeja on a two-count charge of rape. Daniels pleaded not guilty and was granted bail on conditions, including a N20 million bond and two sureties with property in the state. Justice Ramon A. Oshodi ordered an accelerated hearing and remanded him at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until he fulfils bail conditions. The judge also directed the church leader to submit his international passport to the court and adjourned to 9th of May, 2023 for trial. In March, Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, ordered Daniels’ arraignment over the alleged rape of an assistant pastor and another lady. The case was investigated at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, in Ikoyi, where two victims made statements. The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Agency, DSVA, is involved in the case whose legal advice was issued in December 2022. Signed by DPP Director, Babajide Martins, the advice said after consideration of the facts, there exists prima facie offence of rape under Section 260 of the Criminal Law, Ch C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015” against Daniels. “Facts from the duplicate case file reveal that the suspect…had a church branch in Akungba Akoko (Ondo) where he had young people as pastors and assistant pastors. “It is also revealed that Oluwafeyiropo Daniels invites the branch pastors and assistants to his house from time to time for one reason or the other,” the DPP report said. The report added that Daniels allegedly took advantage of one of the assistant pastors whenever she visited his residence in the Ikota area of Lagos. The founder of iReign Christian Ministry in Ikota became popular after his controversial prediction about the presidential election. Daniels predicted the arrest of President-elect Bola Tinubu on the day of inauguration, adding that Peter Obi will eventually become President. Tinubu’s ally and National Coordinator of South West Agenda for Asiwaju, SWAGA, Dayo Adeyeye called the clergyman “fake.” Read the full article

theres been a lot of debate in clown rearing circles about the ethics of keeping clowns as pets. on one hand, clowns have been bred for hundreds of years in captivity and many are unsuited to the habitat loss/change of the modern world, and consequently have arguably been domesticated on a physiological level. on the other hand, maintaining many natural behaviors and providing adequate spacing for clowns is difficult if not impossible for a casual owner (particularly more migratory breeds). where do you lie on this issue, frank? you’ve given past advice on clown husbandry, and i’d appreciate your thoughts on the matter. thank you for all your insight as always.
Hey, this is one of the biggest ongoing controversies in the clown community.
The short answer is: it depends on the clown and the situation. If you have some clown that is especially socially withdrawn, shy, or easily stressed, you may want to try and find some friends who can "exercise" your clown socially. If you are concerned about aggression or other issues, you might also want to try some "reactive" clowns (clowns bred to be more physically aggressive as adults). If your clown is too young, try to find a young baby clown, or a well-socialized juvenile.
On the other hand, there are a lot of pet owners out there who just love their clowns very much (or who just think clowns are adorable or something like that) and would like nothing better than to be able to provide a home for a clown. While it may not be necessary in many cases, you can almost always improve your clown's well-being by allowing it to express more of its own range of behaviors. Some clowns will never express interest in other clowns -- and you'll never know until it happens, since they don't do anything that would be visible to other people.

Was tsar Nichoas the Second actually a cruel, ineffective, and antisemetic leader or is that just Soviet propaganda?
Well, the Russian Revolution didn't succeed (against all odds, with a half-baked plan pitting about half a dozen different groups against each other with vastly different ideals of what Proper Socialism constituted, only briefly, and then collapsing into civil war before the USSR was founded five years later in 1922) because the tsar, and absolute authoritarianism in general, was a popular or effective person and/or system. All throughout the 19th century, the questions of political reform, abolishing serfdom, removing the boyars' (nobles) privileges, outlawing the Old Believers in the Russian Orthodox Church, Russian national and imperial identity, and so forth, were all under huge contestation and controversy. Marxist-inspired revolutionary socialist movements were quickly gaining power in Europe after the publication of The Communist Manifesto in 1848, especially in Russia. But despite this climate of revolutionary fervor and widespread interest in new forms of government, Russia remained an absolute autocratic monarchy ruled by a tsar who had license to do pretty much whatever he wanted, as had been the case since at least Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible) in the 16th century. This did not fit well with the growing demand for representative democracy and proletarian power/redistribution of wealth, and the fledgling Russian revolutionary movement was repeatedly (and violently) squashed.
As I discussed in another recent ask, the general historical consensus on Nicholas II was that he was a personally good man who loved his family and tried his best, but his best was, uh, not good. He had already mismanaged the first attempted people's uprising in 1905 (the Battleship Potemkin episode dates from this era), there was widespread famine and suffering especially among the poor, and then Russia took such ruinous losses in World War I, again as a result of Nicholas' military mismanagement, that the calls for removing him gained steam. He had made some limited constitutional reforms in concession to the 1905 unrest, such as establishing the Duma (the Russian Parliament) and allowing political parties, but it was still largely just for show, as he could still overrule the Duma's laws and/or dissolve it altogether, which he often did. So... yes, he was autocratic, ineffective, constantly blocked any attempt to reform or redistribute power in the absurdly top-heavy Russian system, and terminally incapable of listening to good advice or actually holding an opinion of his own. We all know that Rasputin came into the lives of the Romanov family around this time, and became extremely influential especially on Tsarina Alexandra, showing that the Russian imperial family was also constantly susceptible to (and manipulated by) outside forces, largely in part thanks to Nicholas' indecision and inability to clearly make up his mind, do his job, or actually listen to anyone else.
As for anti-Semitism: yes, Russia in the late 19th/early 20th century was institutionally and virulently anti-Semitic. This increased after the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in 1881, which was blamed on the Jews, and outbursts of violence against them became even more widespread. The word "pogrom" is sometimes used to denote any anti-Semitic violence anywhere, but it dates from this context specifically. Of course, the Jews had served as a domestic scapegoat for European Christians' problems for centuries, but this was especially ridiculous because the actual people who killed Alexander II were a revolutionary socialist youth group called Narodnaya Volya (People's Will), who believed in "secret society terrorism" to foment unrest in the Russian Empire and create the basis for a violent uprising to overthrow the entire oppressive system. This was supposed to spark a vast peasant uprising, cause a revolution, was justified because of the violence of the state, etc etc. The Narodnaya Volya and their successors were socialist anarchists who thought "assassination of the leaders of oppression" was therefore justified and would lead to a magical new utopia where...
....wait a second, this sounds familiar for some reason....
Anyway, yes. This is why, as a historian, I cannot possibly take the "a violent but righteous socialist revolution will spark among the common people to overthrow the oppressors and lead us to the Promised Land!!!" rhetoric even remotely seriously. As with most things in history, it has been tried (and tried), and since there's absolutely no hint that the people calling for it today have thought through how it's actually going to work any more than the Russian revolutionary groups of the 19th/20th century, yeah. The fact of the second revolution, the famous one of 1917, actually succeeding happened almost by accident, despite the intense infighting between the various Bolshevik/socialist/revolutionary groups, and after overthrowing the provisional government and executing the Romanovs in 1918, they collapsed straight into a vicious civil war against each other.
This eventually led to the emergence of the victorious Leninist faction, which went on to found the USSR. Propaganda, revisionist history, and tightly controlled information was a hallmark of the new Soviet state from the start, and yes, they did absolutely try to paint Nicholas II in the worst possible light to justify the existence of their glorious new system and their audacity in actually killing an emperor and his whole family (which, for obvious reasons, terrified all the other empires and delayed Western recognition of the Bolshevik government until the 1930s). Except the USSR quickly took on all the authoritarian, secret-police, highly-centralized power of the tsardom that it had replaced, despite changing the buzzwords and the ultimate rationale. So it's debatable, in the end and as is still the case in modern Russia, how much things ever actually really changed.

i love aizawa and i feel like some cute fluffy domestic role reversal bliss so here u go!
married to shota aizawa headcanons;
the meeting;
you first met when you were 23 and starting your career as a teacher, Shota was just 15 in his first year of high school at U.A.
you had a partner at the time, and obviously could never view any of your students in an inappropriate way — but sweet, immature Shota was madly in love with you regardless.
he never acted on it. he was smart enough to know it would never work out. that didn’t stop his loud-mouthed frenemy Hizashi from mocking him endlessly about his one-sided love.
you were a memorable teacher who always seemed like you were two steps ahead of everyone else. your wit was rapier sharp and your quirk was powerful, you were a quick climber in the pro hero career which is why you got hired as a teacher so young.
everyone wanted to be in your class, but no one wanted to piss you off. you made it a note not to shout at your students, instead your rage would turn inwards. the intense glare in your eyes and the oppressive, curt silence would scare the students straight.
you were always a little harder on Shota than the rest, because you had the most faith in his abilities. you were a powerful influence in his young life, which may have been the main contributing factor to his infatuation.
not once in the three years you trained him did he ever manage to best you.
his crush lasted all through high school (it was, in fact, his first), and on his third year graduation you went your separate ways — you actually decided to retire from the Hero career and took a job as a professor at a prestigious university in Tokyo.
your retirement from being a Pro Hero was met with controversy, you were a rising star that most veterans vouched for — but your years at U.A. opened your eyes to the faults in Hero culture. you simply no longer agreed with it, and while both you and Shota were disappointed you’d never fight side by side, you believed it was for the best and you had no regrets.
the reunion;
your paths crossed again over ten years later when he was a Pro Hero and you a high-earning college dean. you were immediately friendly with him and expressed how proud you were of how far he’d come, and just like that his long lost puppy love came rushing back.
you ended up taking him out for drinks, the social barrier that once separated you no longer applied. you found that you got along well — in fact, he was shocked to find out how eccentric you were. you were always considered the fun teacher in school, but even so, it was like speaking to Mic or Joke sometimes.
for someone in such a prestigious career you still kept your good humour and personality.
what was only supposed to be a couple drinks ended with you dragging him to various bars (and even a club or two), and he was only a little shocked to find that almost everyone knew your name. you got along with others so easily, even now, it was kind of annoying.
you became fast friends over the following months, and Shota’s feelings gradually shifted from a former teenage crush to something with more... depth.
you became his confidant, always willing to lend a hand and some sage advice (or tough love, if the case called for it).
eventually, even you found yourself seeing him as less than your old student and more like the man he became.
around a year after your reunion, you actually confessed to him. he had been so indecisive about his feelings for you and whether he should act on them that you pulled the rug out from under him.
you went to the ramen bar you always frequented. it was a sunday night, so it was relatively empty. the only other person there was tucked away in a booth and staring into a bottle of beer like it held the answer to all of his problems.
you were sat next to each other in your usual spot at the bar, and you confessed to him as he was venting about his day.
his breath caught in his throat, his dark eyes wide with surprise. a faint blush dusted his cheeks, almost completely unnoticeable. his gaze quickly darted away and he nursed his drink.
your body was tense — you were so anxious. you were good at masking it, but you were scared you might have ruined everything.
you sat in silence for a few, agonising moments before he murmured in his deep, husky voice. “...s’not fair.”
“Huh?”
“That’s not fair,” he said, his words clearer now. “I’ve loved you for so long, I wanted to be the one to tell you.”
you couldn’t stop the smug smirk from settling on your face. “Oh yeah, huh? Why didn’t you then?”
he scoffed, more to himself than you. “Dunno. Stupid, I guess. Maybe I was worried it was still just a high school crush. I was kind of obsessed with you when I was a teenager, you know. You were... sort of my hero.”
your gaze softened as you looked upon his gorgeous profile. “No, I knew you were obsessed with me—“ he stiffens at this. “But hero? You think I was your hero? That’s really sweet.”
“Shut up, don’t go getting a big head over this. I was a stupid kid, you were someone I looked up to. Maybe a little too much. Now that I know you I can say for sure you’re a freak.”
you gasp in faux-shock. “I am offended! How could you say such a thing to me, Shota? I might just take back my confession after all.”
“Don’t you dare,” he says suddenly, and you laugh loudly. He responds with a small smile of his own, and you drift into a comfortable silence.
after a few minutes of just basking in the dopamine of your confessions, you put a hand atop of his. “You wanna come back to my place?”
his eyes immediately snap to yours. “Definitely.”
you spend the night in each other’s arms, your relationship culminating in a few hours of fiery passion.
the marriage + the present;
from that first night together the two of you essentially become inseparable. you always say good morning and goodnight to each other, either through text, phone call, or in person — and whenever you have a free moment you spend it together.
you guys are each other’s best friends. hands down. you know everything about each other and are fiercely loyal.
you proposed to Shota four years ago, once again irritating him by beating him to the punch (didn’t stop him from almost crying like a big baby, though).
you got married a year and a half later. it was a small and intimate ceremony, sweet yet cost-effective — and of course it was followed up with copious amounts of food and alcohol with your friends.
and so much sex it leaves him limping for the next two days.
legally, he actually decided to take your last name (you were beyond ecstatic of course, but he just told you to shut up). however, by this point he’d already been hired as a U.A teacher so decided to keep Aizawa as his professional name.
when Shota is at social events, he sometimes sighs to himself and says, “I miss my wife.” before promptly leaving
you’ve met Shota’s class of hooligans a few times before when you visit him to have lunch together. you like to tease him by getting affectionate when his students are around, but he always fiercely rejects you and calls you a gross idiot
he loves it though. secretly. super secretly.
you live together in a cozy, spacious apartment decorated in happy memories and arranged in a way that completely complements your living style.
you always talk about getting cats together but with both of your schedules it’s honestly difficult. maybe some day you’ll take the plunge, though.
once Eri is in the picture, you’re honestly overwhelmed with how much love you feel for Shota. his paternal instincts just fill you with warm and fuzzy feelings
it even makes you think about having kids of your own. you can just picture a little scraggly-haired kid with your eyes and his nose running amok around the house
it’s too cute!
some nights when you’re feeling frisky, you grind up against his ass and snuggle his back. “Do you want to be a daddy, Shota? Will you let me impregnate you?”
he grunts groggily as he half-heartedly tries to push you away. “What the hell are you talking about, moron? Go to sleep.”
you grope at his muscular chest and continue to playfully hump him. “C’moooon, let me put a baby in you already. I want little clones of us running around.”
too tired to argue at this point, he doesn’t even try to lecture you about anatomy. “I’m not getting pregnant. And I don’t want more of you running around, one is already too much.”
you frown at this. “...Really?”
he’s silent for a moment, then grunts. “Mmh... that was a lie. I do want to, at some point. Maybe. You’re the one getting pregnant though. Now go to sleep, it’s 3 AM.”
you turn him over so he’s on his back and straddle his hips, looking down at him with a malicious glint in your eyes. “No way, this is premium baby-making time! Let’s strike while the iron’s hot!”
he lets out a sigh and runs a hand through his messy locks of hair. he always seems to regret agreeing with you on anything.

“If parents and commentators were sometimes concerned about the safety of middle-class girls in city streets, however, they were increasingly concerned about the moral implications of ‘‘good’’ girls taking to walking the streets in such numbers. Fears of precociousness not only encouraged parents to postpone discussions of menarche, they also created a reactionary challenge— too late—to girls’ social freedoms. European observers had commented on the relative freedom of American girls from the routine restraints imposed on European girls for much of the century.
In his 1840 opus Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville noted the early emancipation of the American young woman from maternal control. ‘‘She has scarcely ceased to be a child when she already thinks for herself, speaks with freedom, and acts on her own impulse. . . . The vices and dangers of society are early revealed to her; as she sees them clearly, she views them without illusion and braves them without fear, for she is full of reliance on her own strength, and her confidence seems to be shared by all around her.’’
With the expansion of northeastern cities following the Civil War, and the increasing presence of middle-class girls unregulated in the streets, a range of commentators began publicly to reconsider that confidence. One of the first broadsides in a newly intensified public debate about the character of ‘‘the girl’’ came from Britain and the pen of a journalist and clergyman’s daughter. Eliza Lynn Linton’s essay was notable in part because of its description of a modern type, not limited to one class.
‘‘The Girl of the Period’’ was published as a pamphlet in Britain in 1868, sold forty thousand copies from a single publisher, and first ignited a controversy there. Linton’s British ‘‘girl’’—in future debates known simply as the ‘‘G.O.P.’’—was loud, brassy, and disrespectful. She had traded in purity and ‘‘delicacy of perception’’ for the slang and the conspicuousness of the demimonde. Linton went on: ‘‘The Girl of the Period is a creature who dyes her hair and paints her face, as the first article of her personal religion—a creature whose sole idea of life is fun; whose sole aim is unbounded luxury; and whose dress is the chief object of such thought and intellect as she possesses.’’
Linton’s ‘‘G.O.P.’’ was ‘‘far too fast and flourishing’’ to listen to her parents, ‘‘indifferent’’ to duty, ‘‘useless’’ at home, and dedicated to the pursuit of money. Henry James, who later made the character of the American girl a subject of his fiction, reviewed Linton’s pamphlet in the Nation. He began by denying its relevance to the United States.
‘‘The American reader will be struck by the remoteness and strangeness of the writer’s tone and allusions. He will see that the society which makes these papers even hypothetically—hyperbolically—possible is quite another society from that of New York and Boston. American life, whatever may be said, is still a far simpler process than the domestic system of England.’’ In contrast to Linton’s portrait ‘‘of youthful Jezebels with plastered faces and lascivious eyes,’’ James offered the ‘‘large number of very pretty and, on the whole, very fresh-looking girls’’ of Boston or New York, ‘‘dressed in various degrees of the prevailing fashion.’’
James’s use of the term girl to refer to wholesome and respectable teenage females was an early instance of its contemporary usage. No sooner had James denied any comparison, though, than he began to warm to the task of finding similarities. He found American girls excessively devoted to the idea of being well dressed, which had ‘‘a sacred and absolute meaning.’’
A girl of fashion ‘‘is undeniably a very artificial and composite creature, and doubtless not an especially edifying spectacle. . . . She has, moreover, great composure and impenetrability of aspect. She practices a sort of half-cynical indifference to the beholder (we speak of the extreme cases). Accustomed to walk alone in the streets of a great city, and to be looked at by all sorts of people, she has acquired an unshrinking directness of gaze. She is the least bit hard.’’
James’s novel The Awkward Age (1899) took up the consequences of the ‘‘exposure’’ in public of British girls for their marriage prospects. As much as James admired the independence of ‘‘the American girl’’ (always to be considered as part of American elite), his hypersensitive self was shocked by the toughness of her exterior. Several years later another literary figure entered the debate over the impact of modernity on middle-class American girls.
Louisa May Alcott acknowledged Linton’s influence in the preface to her book An Old-Fashioned Girl (1872), a tale of a simple, affectionate country girl of fourteen who goes to live with a sophisticated and unhappy friend, a fashionable girl of the city. ‘‘The ‘Old-Fashioned Girl’ is not intended as a perfect model, but as a possible improvement upon the Girl of the Period, who seems sorrowfully ignorant or ashamed of the good old fashions which made woman truly beautiful and honored, and through her, render home what it should be,—a happy place, where parents and children, brothers and sisters, learn to love and know and help one another.’’
Readers first meet Alcott’s heroine Polly when Tom, the brother of the family, arrives at the train station to pick up his sister’s friend and lights in error on a passenger who might pass for a G.O.P. She is in gorgeous array, with ‘‘a flapping of sashes, scallops, ruffles, curls, and feathers.’’ The passenger, ‘‘a breezy stranger,’’ eyes Tom with a ‘‘cool stare that utterly quenched him.’’
Just as he is gathering his forces to initiate conversation, up runs our heroine, ‘‘a fresh-faced little girl, . . . with her hand out, and a half shy, half-merry look in her blue eyes.’’ Like Little Women, published several years before, An Old-Fashioned Girl celebrates the beauty of girls’ devotion to home and family and their rejection of the material, selfish world of the modern city. A comparison of titles, however, suggests an important difference in the implications of the two books for female adolescence.
In contrast to Little Women, An Old-Fashioned Girl encourages girls to hold on to their status as children, rather than embracing too early the roles and manners of women. The problem of the urban sisters Fanny and little Maud in Alcott’s novel is their precociousness. Fanny explains to Polly, ‘‘You are fourteen; and we consider ourselves young ladies at that age.’’ Alcott, in contrast, describes Polly as a ‘‘fresh-faced little girl.’’
In fact, the family’s grandmother suggests that her own granddaughters scarcely were ever children. ‘‘’You mustn’t mind my staring, dear,’ said Madam, softly pinching her rosy cheek. ‘I haven’t seen a little girl for so long, it does my old eyes good to look at you.’’’ Her own granddaughters, she explains, are ‘‘not what you call little girls. Fan has been a young lady this two years, and Maud is a spoiled baby.’’
Even Maud, at the age of six, has the accoutrements of maturity in the form of calling cards, crimping pins, and a ‘‘box of dainty gloves.’’ Alcott explains that Maud ‘‘belonged to a ‘set’ also; and these mites of five and six had ‘their’ parties, receptions, and promenades, as well as their elders, and the chief idea of their little lives seemed to be to ape the fashionable follies they should have been too innocent to understand.’’ Alcott is so concerned with demonstrating the folly of precociousness that she turns fifteen- or sixteen-year-old Polly’s interest in the attractive son of the family into an object lesson.
‘‘Polly shut her door hard, and felt ready to cry with vexation, that her pleasure should be spoilt by such a silly idea; for, of all the silly freaks of this fast age, that of little people playing at love is about the silliest.’’ Alcott’s fear of precociousness cuts such a wide swathe that she admits little distinction between the pairing off of six-year-olds and the infatuation of teenagers.
The explanation for the precociousness of girls is their involvement in a new peer culture, facilitated and expanded by attending school. When Polly asks Fanny why she spends so much time getting dressed just to go to school, Fanny responds, ‘‘All the girls do; and it’s proper, for you never know who you may meet. I’m going to walk, after my lessons, so I wish you’d wear your best hat and sack.’’ In Alcott’s novel the custom of walking, encouraged to provide girls with appropriate exercise, appears as a vapid excuse for socializing, especially in contrast with the health of children’s play.
Polly scorns it. ‘‘To dress up and parade certain streets for an hour every day, to stand talking in doorways, or drive out in a fine carriage, was not the sort of exercise she liked. . . . At home, Polly ran and rode, coasted and skated, jumped rope and raked hay, worked in her garden and rowed her boat; so no wonder she longed for something more lively than a daily promenade with a flock of giddy girls.’’ It is the strength of urban peer culture which leads to the unhealthiness and unhappiness—and the unlovableness—of the bored and fashionable Fanny.
Other commentators as well attacked the danger of precociousness in the rearing of girls. Washington Gladden, liberal clergyman and promoter of the social gospel, was persuaded in 1880 to provide advice for girls in St. Nicholas to complement an earlier article for boys. He censured ‘‘a too early initiation into the excitements and frivolities of what is called society. It was formerly the rule for girls to wait until their school-days were over before they made their appearance in fashionable society. At what age, let us inquire, does the average young lady of our cities now make her debut?’’ Like Alcott, Gladden dipped down into the early years to see the onset of preciousness. ‘‘From my observations, I should answer at about the age of three. They are not older than that when they begin to go to children’s parties, for which they are dressed as elaborately as they would be for a fancy ball.’’
If Gladden focused on the social folly of children forced into early maturity, for Mary Virginia Terhune the practice was evil: ‘‘We sin in allowing the fears, hopes and flutters of nubility to obtrude, even in imagination, upon this most susceptible stage of the formative period. There is vulgar violence in the excitation of coy tremors and coquettish projects in the mind of one who is as yet incapable of comprehending the meaning or tendency of the novel emotions.’’
Employing the earthy, agrarian metaphors which were one way of objectifying girls’ maturation, Terhune expounded, ‘‘Premature bloom is imperfection, too often deformity. Forced fruits lack the flavor of the summer’s prime, the beauty and richness of seasonableness.’’ If Henry James felt that girls were becoming hard from their exposure in the city streets, Terhune and others feared that they were becoming blemished or prematurely soft—a different kind of distortion of the ‘‘girl crop’’ that was everyone’s property.
The allure of city streets was only part of the story, though. Critics cautioned that weakening family ties helped to push girls into the streets. In Alcott’s accounting, and in the ongoing debate over the Girl of the Period, the declining authority of parents played an important role in the dissipation of girls. Alcott’s fashionable fictional family is headed by an absent father and an invalid mother.
Mr. Shaw is ‘‘a busy man, so intent on getting rich that he had no time to enjoy what he already possessed.’’ He has a habit of lecturing his son ‘‘and letting the girls do just as they like[].’’ Mrs. Shaw is ‘‘a pale, nervous women,’’ an invalid, defined by needs rather than by her ability to give. The family might meet for dinner, but after eating ‘‘they all [go] about their own affairs.’’ Whatever else was to blame, there was no question that the ‘‘girl problem’’ was in part the problem of urban parents losing control over their daughters.
When Washington Gladden addressed the problem of girls, he titled his article ‘‘A Talk with Girls and Their Mothers’’ because he felt the problem lay with both. The commandment that children should obey their parents, he asserted, was disregarded by both mothers and teenage daughters. ‘‘The girl of thirteen regards herself as her own mistress; she is already a woman in her own estimation, and has a right to do as she pleases.’’
Despite his strenuous support elsewhere for longer and more vigorous walking for girls, Gladden could not countenance the freedom of girls in the city streets. ‘‘This habit of running loose, of constantly seeking the street for amusement, and even of making chance acquaintances there, is practiced by some of the girls of our good families, and it is not at all pleasant to see them on the public thoroughfares, and to witness their hoydenish ways. . . . The delicate bloom of maiden modesty is soiled by too much familiarity with the public streets of a city, and a kind of boldness is acquired which is not becoming in a woman.’’
Gladden’s worry for the ‘‘delicate bloom of maiden modesty’’ reflected a legitimate concern for how girls’ culture was being influenced by urban freedom. An article published in Ladies’ Home Journal in 1884 took a different tone in reporting on ‘‘an epidemic’’ of disappearances of girls: ‘‘One doesn’t bring up a chubby baby girl to bang upon a grand piano, outdress other girls and graduate with nuns’ veiling and sixteen hired bouquets, to have some dark night bring a rascal and a rope-ladder to steal her away just when she is getting big enough to do the marketing and darn her father’s socks. . . . The sympathy of the entire world goes out to the bereaved owners of these pretty girls, spirited away.’’ Despite its glib and knowing tone, itself a radical break from the earnest, idealist rhetoric which usually accompanied such discussions, the article had a strong message for mothers:
‘‘The fact is, the mothers of to-day do not exercise enough maternal authority and vigilance over their daughters. . . . Female chums call for them to spend the night, and who they meet while absent from the home circle mothers never know.’’ The pull of ‘‘chums’’ drawing girls away from their mothers’ households was a far cry from the idealized intergenerational domestic world promoted by advisers. A signed article republished from the Congregationalist in 1889 explored the distance between domestic ideal and urban reality.
Mrs. J. G. Fraser titled her piece ‘‘Our Lost Girls’’ and subtitled it ‘‘A Mother Sadly Regrets That She Can Not Have the Training of Her Daughter.’’ Fraser exclaimed, ‘‘Alas! just as our daughters are entering their teens, or before, we discover that we have lost them. Where have they gone?’’ Her answer was clear. ‘‘It is a fact that the average girl is restless unless she can visit or receive visits from some young lady friend most of the time.’’ Such chores as a daughter might have ‘‘are hurried through with unseemly haste, to the end that she may leave home as soon as possible.’’
Informed by the dictates of domesticity, Fraser knew what her maternal role should be: ‘‘Sympathetic companionship, little seeds of counsel dropped wisely here and there, a knowledge of what the girls are thinking about and what they are interested in; a wise ignoring of some girlish follies—all these are needed.’’ But there was one problem in applying techniques of domestic influence.
If they could help it, girls were probably not at home to listen to their mothers’ advice. Fraser uttered a complaint with a contemporary ring. ‘‘Our homes should not be simply boarding houses where our children eat and sleep, but dwelling places where they are to spend most of their time out of school hours.’’ If they were to sustain the culture of the ‘‘old-fashioned girl,’’ mothers must take their daughters back from the streets and from the friends they promenaded with there.
Girls who appeared in public and walked the streets were historically ‘‘public women,’’ prostitutes. What distinguished the debates of the 1870s and 1880s was that they were not about prostitutes but instead about a more broadly defined and owned group of daughters. Not distinguished by class or profession, the G.O.P. was not a fallen ‘‘other’’ but instead a creature of modernity, created by the industrial city.
When Henry James, Louisa May Alcott, Ladies’ Home Journal, and St. Nicholas wrote about girls, they were talking about their own daughters, or nieces, or grandchildren, or the daughters of their friends and colleagues. Mrs. J. G. Fraser, of course, most literally seems to have been writing about her daughter. In contrast with later discussions about ‘‘the girl problem,’’ these late-Victorian debates were explicitly not focused on working or shopgirls. Instead, such discussions hit closer to home, often debating the impact of modern culture on Our Girls, as an advice book published in 1871 was entitled.
These girls might even be considered to belong to an urban elite. Louisa May Alcott’s Fanny differs from her country friend because she is a girl of fashion, whose parents can afford to buy her the new offerings of urban dry goods stores. When Kate Tannatt Woods excoriated the rude and showy ‘‘Manners in Public’’ of a certain young concertgoer, she characterized her explicitly: ‘‘Sallie Ducats, whose father is a celebrated statesman, and whose mother bore a grand old name prior to her marriage.’’
The conduct of Sallie (spelled in the French fashion) and her friends sets a bad standard for other girls: ‘‘Their heavy steps and bustling noise disturbed the entire [concert] audience. . . . This was not all. They removed their wraps with much parade and noise, raised their seats and let them fall again, and then, after some further maneuvers, produced some bon-bons which they proceeded to eat with evident relish. During the entire concert they whispered, giggled, looked about, and made comments on people about them.’’ Woods concluded by asking: ‘‘What is to be done when young women belonging to our so-called ‘best families’ are guilty of such conduct?’’
…When pundits debated the status of the American girl, they were not likely to be referring to domestic servants or factory operatives; they were more likely to be referring to American schoolgirls, despite their distinct minority status. The debate over the conduct of the American girl gained an edge of urgency because of the class standing of the girls now out in public. At the same time, that urgency helped to create a more broadly defined and collectively owned group of girls.
If advice givers needed to vouch for the respectability of schoolgirls, however, they could still remain disturbed by some of the after-hour implications of school attendance, especially at the more suspect public schools. The Ladies’ Home Journal’s glib answer to the question ‘‘Why Girls Disappear’’ blamed mothers but indirectly it blamed school, too. ‘‘School-girls here have been seen year in and year out being joined on a certain corner by rakish-looking boys who carried their books.’’
Another article in the same magazine the next year lambasted the dangerous influence of the roller-skating rink on schoolgirls as well. Under the title ‘‘Flirting Girls,’’ the writer noted that ‘‘school girls in great numbers frequent these pleasure resorts and emulate each other in picking up the greatest number of gentlemen acquaintances. So large is this class of chance acquaintances, that the girls in our public schools already recognize these men by a slang term, a humorous but pitiful term, when one thinks of the underlying fact. These ‘pick-ups’ are not obtained in the skating rink alone but are made on the sidewalk with a bow, a smile, a word, or in a horse car or at a baseball match or at the theatre.’’ The outcry of concern over the modern girl focused on middle-class girls, and the impact of a range of social developments—school among them—which were breaking down the authority of parents, the strength of the home, and the domination of traditional morality.”

Be Gentle So That God May Grant Repentance
Paul writes to Timothy, encouraging him and explaining how Timothy ought to defend his flock against false teachers (2 Tim 2:14–19). Two particularly troublesome men, Hymenaeus and Philetus, had wrongly claimed that the resurrection already happened (2 Tim 2:18).
His advice to Timothy, however, is somewhat counter-cultural for us today. Paul tells Timothy to pursue virtue, gentleness, and patience so that God may grant Timothy’s opponents repentance.
Here is what Paul says:
“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will” (2 Tim 2:22–26).
One reason why we correct our opponents with gentleness is so that God may grant them repentance. The converse, treating our opponents un-gently, may rob someone of the opportunity for repentance.
And that’s not the mind of Christ: “Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?” (Ezek 18:23)
And
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Pet 3:9).
And
“God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance” (Rom 2:4).
And
“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8).
God desires all people to come to repentance. Since he loves all people, he came into the world to save all of us (John 3:16). And he showed his blessed kindness to all so that we might repent and believe in him. Instead of fighting back, he allowed himself to be led like a lamb to the slaughter. He died for sinners because he loved us even in our weak and sinful state.
That’s what love looks like.
God’s Countercultural Command: Gentleness
In our contemporary world, Political discourse and cultural norms have created an atmosphere where vicious, groupish attacks are the norm. Some Christians have adopted this pagan mindset, assuming that the meaner and stronger they are, the more orthodox they are—the more faithful.
Sometimes we call this cage-stage Calvinism, and it represents one rung on the ladder of our ascent to holiness. And while the problem seems domesticated because we have named it and collectively eye roll when we see it, it nevertheless represents a morally evil, pagan philosophy that may prevent someone the opportunity for repentance.
So while we ought to be patient with our cage-stage friends (I was there too, mea culpa!), we should also be clear that mean-spirited, ungentle behaviour does not match the biblical idiom for how we ought to treat our opponents.
Certainly, Paul warns his congregations with strong words. Yet as a general pattern, when he advised direct interaction with opponents, he instructs us to be gentle. The reason for our strong language against opponents seems mainly for the benefit of the flock who need the warning. But the kind of speech we use in direct conversation with opponents seems to be gentleness.
Even if that particular argument is not convincing, Paul does tell Timothy to be gentle in the context of unfaithful teachers who have claimed the resurrection did not happen (2 Tim 2). So something is happening here!
Besides, it’s much easier to mimic the anger of the world than it is of God. Hence, “the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God” (James 1:20). So the clap-back culture of today’s groupish and debased political discourse should never infest the minds of Christians.
Instead, we need the mind of Christ, that gentle desire for the repentance of all. May it lay seed in our minds by the Holy Spirit and flourish into a flower of love. - Wyatt Graham

If Roman had known as a teenager how satisfying it was just to spend Saturday afternoon hanging around the Helios house, he wouldn’t have believed it. There was nothing he loved better than simply throwing sticks for Nathan’s strange little dog, and watching Abe and Lucy squabble about petty things. They were currently fighting over who would get to barbecue the burgers for dinner, teasing each other like they were still ten years old. In all likelihood, if they wanted the burgers to be half-way edible, then Roman would have to make them, but he knew better than to inject himself in their argument. It was always safer to watch from the sidelines and just try to enjoy the burnt food. Quiet, domestic days were sometimes messy, but they were always enjoyable. Nothing like he’d experienced with his own family.

The newest member of the Helios family wasn’t even a Helios by name. Oriana had given her daughter the Fontana name, and for good reason. Little Juliet Fontana was controversial, though very few people knew why exactly. In her quest for a child to love, Oriana had stepped over some boundaries that just about everyone had warned her to avoid. This had resulted in Juliet’s striking physical appearance. She was as pale as any undead zombie that had arisen a few years ago, and had blood red eyes to match. She didn’t resemble her mother at first glance, but she did look a great deal like her father...well, it was complicated.

Theo was adapting to having two little sisters better than Roman had hoped. Now that he had competition for Grandma and the rest of the family’s attention with Luciana, Adrienne, Noelle and Juliet, Theo was learning to play well with others. He still had his tantrums, and still occasionally went through unattended purses or wallets looking for something interesting or delicious, but over all, he was growing up well.

Not many people knew the identity of Juliet’s father. Oriana had told her wife, and Ironman, who both insisted on telling Launce. Elaine’s kids were dying to know just where someone who looked liked Juliet had come from, but Oriana never budged. Fortunately, Nickolas didn’t seem interested in his half-sister at all.
“She looks like him,” Launce marveled, watching his niece play with her toddler toy. He came by the house more often now that he and Elaine were on friendly terms again. “At least like I remember him. She has his smile.”
“I miss him too,” Elaine replied. “I know what Oriana did was wrong, but I think that Ben would have been happy to see how happy Juliet makes her.”
In desperation and against all advice, Oriana had gone searching for DNA to create a child, and had been set on having her long dead, but never forgotten love, Benvolio’s child. When he had briefly reanimated as an undead creature a few years ago, he left samples of genetic materials that had been expelled from his body, and gathered by Oriana to study. Wbuna had warned Oriana about using such an unstable, undead mess to start playing with genetics, and she had been right. There had been too much DNA altered by demonic magic, and Juliet was born healthy, but visibly different. Oriana knew too well how cruel kids could be about being different.
“Mom wouldn’t understand,” Launce said. “She just wants Ben to rest in peace. Seeing him as a zombie was hard on her, and knowing about Juliet might be too upsetting for her. I can’t lose her to a heart attack like poor Giovanni Rivales. Plus, I’d have to lock her in the house to keep her from filing a lawsuit against Oriana. It would be messy. But you’re right, Ben only wanted Oriana’s happiness in life, and I haven’t seen Oriana this happy in years.”

Abe thought foolishly that he could avoid Lucy if he went inside and left the barbecue in her hands. It turned out that Lucy hadn’t really cared about who got to make dinner; she just wanted to pester her big brother.
“I’m working on your case a lot, in case you wanted to thank me,” Lucy told Abe arrogantly, sitting beside him uninvited. “I spent all of yesterday in the demonic archives, studying past cases like yours. Yvette thinks I’m on to something, I just need to present it right.”
Abe rolled his eyes, absolutely exhausted from listening to his sister drone on about how grateful he should be to her.
“You know, I didn’t really ask you to do all of this,” he replied. “You just took it upon yourself to rescue me. Roman and I can work this out, really. So we see each other for half the month, and avoid each other the other half. It’s pretty easy.”
It was Lucy’s turn to roll her eyes.
“That’s insane,” she declared. “How are you going to raise Theo? In two week shifts? Roman’s kids deserve to have two parents who aren’t too busy avoiding each other to raise them. It’s no way for you two to live either.”

“Dad! Dad! Look at my house! I made a castle like the one Aunt Ulyssa lives in. Dad, come see!”

Thank the Watcher
“Duty calls,” Abe announced, hearing Theo’s cries through the open window, and seizing this chance to escape Lucy.
“How do you feel about pleading down to a life sentence?”
Abe froze.
“A what?” he asked. “I’m not pleading to anything, Lucy. I didn’t do anything wrong. Malika forced me to agree to that deal, and no one made it clear to me that warping it was even possible. Try something else. Or don’t, since I never asked for your help.”
“I meant a life sentence with Roman,” Lucy clarified, still looking annoyingly proud of herself. “If you can get a full demon to help, and you’re willing to spend a few years living with Roman, he may be able to renegotiate the flow of energy between-”
“No, Lucy, just no!” Abe shouted. “I’m sick of deals, and promises, and secret clauses. I don’t want to discuss this anymore. I want to live my life, and raise my kid. That’s all. I’m not dragging Roman into a giant mess where he has to learn powers that he wants nothing to do with. I’m not agreeing to any other deal where he holds my life in his hands. I realize that you’re just trying to help, but stop, Lucy. Please, just stop with this.”
A familiar wail from outside brought Abe immediately to his feet.
“Dad! Noelle broke my castle! Daaaad!”
Abe sighed loudly, but shot Lucy a stern look before he left.
“Care to discipline your daughter? Or is she not as interesting as poking your nose into matters it doesn’t belong in?”
Lucy glared at him.
“It sounds like it was Theo’s fault,” she responded, coldly. “He’s being stubborn when Noelle just wants to help him out of the giant mess he’s gotten himself into.” “And maybe Noelle should stick to her own projects and stop trying to help Theo build with his blocks,” Abe shot back. “She’s the one who broke the castle he was making!”
“Maybe Theo was being a jerk because his life is out of control and she’s afraid of losing him to something he doesn’t take seriously!”
“I’m not dying, Lucy,” Abe said slowly, finally grasping why his sister was so determined to help him at any cost. “Roman, Theo and I aren’t going anywhere. Well, Theo and I aren’t going anywhere, and I’d like to think that Roman feels the same. Either way, if something bad was going to happen, it would have already happened. Things are difficult with me and Roman, but we’re working it out. You’re not going to lose me the way we lost Dad. I promise.”
Lucy didn’t know what to say. This was getting dangerously close to becoming a conversation about feelings, and she wanted none of that. Abe had seen her fear, and now had a better understanding of why she wanted to help him, so that was the end of this conversation. It was time to move on before he saw anymore of the feelings she bottled up inside.
“On second thought, I think I will return to the barbecue,” she announced, shooting Abe a confident look. “Someone has to show Roman how to properly grill a burger. His are always under cooked.”
Abe sighed, as his sister practically bolted from the room.
A Helios who uses tasks and work to hide their feelings from others? She’s turning into Mom a little more every day.
