But as the hearing began, defense attorney Crystal Wentz revealed Adam Bennefield had received his protective order - against Keaira - in Erie County Family Court the day before. Wentz opposed the new order, which covered the couple's home and excluded Adam Bennefield because his previous order also included keeping his mother away from "any children and effectively giving her custody." But Judge James Speyer Jr., a Cheektowaga City Judge, dismissed those arguments, calling the allegations against Adam Bennefield "very serious" and saying, "In terms of what is happening here in Cheektowaga Criminal Court, I have concerns ." In response, Wentz requested a so-called Crawford hearing to determine whether Adam Bennefield had been deprived of a "substantial personal interest or property" as a result of an appeals court ruling last year.
