You know what it's time for?? 2019 Oscars and Giselle!!

Giselle is dressed to the nines in a stunning white dress, off the shoulder, fitted with a slit up to her thigh and red detailing to lowkey match roger but not enough to ‘look like Missus Fucking Claus’.

side note, Ryan Destiny plays giselle in her biopic All That Glitters, and in this universe, there is definitely a music cinematic universe, both taron as elton, and rami as freddie appear in ATG (and so does ben, obviously). giselle takes a photo of taron, rami, and ryan all together and posts it with the caption ‘legendary’ and it’s everywhere online in less than two hours

(at the after party, someone posts two photos on instagram; the first of rami and ryan grinning and hugging and both holding their oscars, and the second of giselle and freddie at a party in the early to mid 70s, a rare photo of a young giselle absolutely beaming, their arms around each other as they both smile at the camera, and giselle cries for a full half an hour)

Side, side note: Ben definitely had a crush on giselle as a teenager as he was listening to a lot of her and queen.

giselle’s daughters don’t come along, but her granddaughter, Maggie, is invited as she plays Teenage Giselle in the film.

um I LOVE LITTLE MAGGIE LOSING HER FUCKING MIND AND MEETING CELEBRITIES AND HAVING TO BE CHILL ABOUT IT

Like, the idea that maggie, who literally grew up with celebrities breezing in and out of her grandparents home for all of her life, still gets excited about meeting celebrities.

She takes a video on the red carpet of tom holland, he’s standing a few feet away and you can hear what sounds like ryan giving an interview somewhere nearby, and maggie just zooms in on him: (a whisper) it’s him. The spider boy.

The video ends because tom actually turns, spots her, and gives a little wave and Maggie makes a surprised noise before the video cuts out.

She's also got the biggest heart eyes for letitia wright, and there's a series of photos someone's taken of Maggie giving her the most starry eyed gaze, followed by Maggie nervously asking to take a photo with her, and then a photo of the two of them posing together and Maggie looks like she's barely containing her excitement.

Giselle, Ryan, and Maggie have one of the slow motion videos taken; the three of them lounging casually on each other, Ryan is flipping her hair, Giselle is looking at her nails, and Maggie is yawning, all three of them look absolutely gorgeous; mean and sharp and perfect.

Maggie wears a high-necked, black, sleeveless velvet dress that hits just below her knees and has constellations made from diamonds from the hip down.

i have a big ATG post that i didn’t finish for the golden globes, that i’ll try and get around to later, but in it i talk about how Giselle comes out of musical retirement to write a song for the movie, and she performs it at the oscars. to steal from that post for a moment;

Giselle comes out of musical retirement and writes a new song for the film; that’s the final song before the credits, it’s called ‘That Big Wide Unknown’ it’s about how she will dig her heels in to keep the family and the happiness that she has, and how they’ve grown and strengthened for the hardships they’ve endured, though the chorus comes back to marigold’s death, and includes the lines;

i always believed my girl is up there somewhere / but i can’t see my past for the streetlights / i hope she sees / oh god, she sees i’m sorry / i hope to god she knows we tried

it wins Best Original Song, Film, and Lead Actress (ben is nominated for best actor in a supporting role, but doesn’t win; also nominated for sound design)

The director of ATG pulls Giselle onstage with the rest of the cast and crew when they win best picture, and at the end of the director’s speech she hands over ‘did you want to say anything?’

"this, like everything I do, is for my girls, my daughters, my granddaughter, girls like me who want to see themselves on tv, and in movies, and winning best [bleep] picture, to girls like Ryan who know they can win best [bleep] actor! This win is for our future!"

Roger definitely teared up big time.

Giselle took (and framed, afterwards) a photo of Maggie, who has jumped into Castor's (Brian's son, Maggie's dad, we'll get into that in the future) arms, and he's got tears of pride in his eyes, her legs wrapped around him where she's burried her face in his neck and he's pressing a kiss to her temple, and Lilith is hugging her from behind, sandwiching Maggie between them, and they both parents are absolutely beaming with pride. Lilith posts it on all her social media with the caption 'couldnt be prouder of my legacy'

Okay!! at the after party, first of all; Lilith and Castor are invited, but she lets Maggie roam as long as she's with one of the ATG of BoRhap folks they trust.

Roger gives maggie a single glass of champagne “don’t tell your grandma”

of course giselle manages to spot it after maggie’s only had a single sip, and she takes the drink off her immedately, “roger, she’s sixteen! be responsible!” is what she tells him before she proceeds to drink half of it and give it back, “don’t tell your mother” is what she tells maggie

Castor gives her a glass of wine "you're allowed to celebrate a little, but don't tell your grandparents, okay?"

Patience (Brian's wife, again, future stuff) gives her a gin and tonic

Brian gives her half a beer

Lilith isn't surprised but is disappointed (Giselle is kind of proud; what a mom mood) "you five got a sixteen year old drunk!!"

But also Maggie gets super melancholy whilst drunk about all the BoRhap/ATG stuff ending since it's the end of the awards season, and at the end of the night when Giselle goes to find her to take her home, she finds Ben and Rami chatting on like a little set of couches to the side and Maggie's managed to fall asleep on Ben, all tucked up against his side, and Giselle thinks it's the cutest thing in the world and takes a photo but Maggie is Mortified the next day because she definitely still has a crush on him

She actually had a lot of conversations with a lot of her celebrity crushes while tipsy and she's both pleased and embarrassed.

Maggie, stage whispering where she's leaning against Ben on the couch: I have a crush on Ryan, don't tell grandma because it's weird

Ben, petting her face softly as she yawns: I won't

Ben, internally: Who Got This Child Drunk

Giselle spends a lot of the night with the cast, she's got such love for Rami and both of them are tispy and clutching oscars, and Giselle takes his face in her hands and tells him with the utmost seriousness "I love you for who you are, and you did such an incredible job embodying one of my closest friends. You're family, Rami, you're family to me."

Rami cries and hugs her.

Giselle doesn’t get too drunk at the after party, but early on into the after party she takes Roger into the bathroom; it’s tradition at this point. @ginghampearlsnsweettea and I were discussing this and she had the most valid take i’ve ever read;

Gizelle and Roger have a reputation for getting it on at award shows and the 91st Oscars is no exception. Kids, grandkids, friends, and various other celebs be damned.

Someone: Don’t you think you’re getting a bit old for this?

Them: Never

Rami asks Brian where Gizelle and Rog are because he wants to take a picture with them.

It’s been a while since I've done something like this but, considering this year has been gangbusters for anime, i needed to go ahead give my nod towards that ex excellence. Anime in 2022 is an embarrassment of riches and every season had at least one killer app. Obviously, there are some that mean more to me than others but, overall, these are the ten (or so) which left me wanting more. Now, before we get into the actual list, i need to recognize both BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War and Overlord IV. Both of these shows are continuations of long established franchises. Both of these shows are, arguably, the best of said franchises. Both of these shows are on my all-time list and o shill hard for them. Both of these shows would sit comfortably at the top of this list but i refuse to put them on here. They are absolutely serving on that top spot, don’t misunderstand, but it feels like a cheat to place something so established, something I'm on the record to shill so hard for, when here are brand new franchises getting their clout out there. BLEACH and Overlord are masterclasses in how to adapt anime and deserve to share the top spot on my list. They do. Go watch them because they are pure excellence. That aside, let’s get into my top ten of the year!

10. Skeleton Knight in Another World

This is the first Overlord clone to make this list. Obviously, it’s here because it IS an Overlord clone and i love Ainz so very, very, much. I think i made that exceptionally clear above. That said, Skeleton Knight pales in comparison to not only Overlord, but it’s derivative cousins who will make an appearance further down on this list. Disclaimers and criticism aside, i had a lot of fun with this show. The manga is much more fun, mostly because i enjoy the art, but this adaption is rather faithful, giving the anime a very familiar energy. If I'm being honest, Skeleton Knight is the weakest entry on this list and there are probably more deserving shows out there, but i just think Skeleton Knight in Another World is neat.

9. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

I genuinely enjoy Gundam but i can’t say I'm a hardcore fan. I can best be described as interested but not enthusiastic. I've enjoyed certain entries more than others, Unicorn and Iron-Blooded Orphans come to mind, but, for me, it’s Gundam Wing. I have never enjoyed a Gundam narrative as much as W, until i saw Mercury. Now, when i say that out loud, i know how ridiculous that sounds. With of Mercury has very little in common with Wing yet, i adore this show. I can’t say it’s the strongest of the franchise, it definitely isn’t, but i loved my time with this world. Also, Aerial has a pretty dope design.

8. Lycoris Recoil

I’ve been a fan of the “Schoolgirl Hitgirl” sub-genre for years. My chick got me into with Gunslinger Girl way back when. Recoil wasn’t initially on radar but i picked it up midway through it’s run after dropping another show. I was happy with that decision because, holy sh*t, this show is awesome Never mind the high production values and the absolutely enchanting characters, Recoil is basically John Wick in a sailor outfit and i am here for all of that. I’m not just talking action, but the world building, too. There is just SO much content here, so many avenues to explore, and it just happens to be focus on two of the cutest protagonists this season. Come for the clandestine assassin wetwork, stay for the charming ass personal interactions between Chisato and Takina.

7. Spy x Family

I slept on the Forger family until the last two episodes and had to binge the entire series at once. I’m glad i did because this show is AMAZING! It has a throwback feel to it, kind of a Lupin III-esque vibe, but does it’s own thing with it. On paper, this narrative comes across as some of the most chaotic, out of place, shenanigans ever conceived and yet, everything works. It all fits. I adored every second of this show and feel bad i waited so long to partake, strictly because of my own stubbornness. I ate when shows are over-hyped and Spy x Family definitely was. Its absolutely deserving but people talk about this show like it’s Naruto or Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan; All of which are aggressively disappointing, Not Spy x Family. That sh*t lived up to the hype and more.

6. Uncle From Another World

This one was a real treat. It’s an absolute send-up of the Isekai genre and a complete breath of fresh air. As a kid who grew up in the Nineties, i remember fondly the old timey Console Wars. I, too, was a Sega shill so seeing Uncle have his many, many, meltdowns about the absolute sate of the company, was hilarious. I mean, the fantasy stuff was dope, too, don’t get me wrong (Sui is best girl) but the strength of this show, for me, is the out-of-place naivety of Uncle. Dude doesn’t fit in in either world and that sh*t makes for top tier comedy. It’s a little rough to watch at time, can’t even deny that, but the writing is more than strong enough to overcome those sus ass production values.

5. Chainsaw Man

Chainsaw Man at number five? Blasphemy! It’s the most expensive anime, ever! It’s based on top tier kino! Muh Makima! Listen, i enjoyed Chainsaw Man. I thought the adaption was fine. I don’t hate Mappa for their weirdly floaty, computer generated-to-rotoscoping, animation style. That’s fine. Chainsaw Man, to me, was kind of a disappointment. It’s solid as f*ck if you are kind of a casual, but for a guy like me who has consuming anime and manga for probably thirty-five years, this ain’t special. It’s odd because i thought this adaption was going to f*ck up the fandom like Onepunch Man did all those years ago, but nope. That sucks because Fujimoto’s manga is f*cking exceptional. There’s so much heart there and i think that’s what is missing from the anime and there is no Pochita to take it’s place. Power is dope, though. As long as you watch the Japanese version. Power in the dub is horrible.

4. The Eminence in Shadow

I like Overlord. I like Albedo. Shadow is basically Overlord if Ainz made all of his Floor Guardians Albedo. That’s it. That’s the show. This is the second Overlord clone to make this list, which is wild to me. I never expected that The Nazarick Chronicles would become a sub-genre of Isekai but here we are. That said, Shadow is f*cking excellent. It might be derivative of Overlord in tone and scope but it is definitely it’s own thing. The world on display here definitely gives Ainz’s New World a run for it’s money in terms of depth and i am here for all of that. Plus, the MC, Shadow, is one of the most complete, overpowered, protagonists in the genre. I love this chunibyo so much. Also, the production values. Like, holy sh*t, does this show LOOK great! That whole “I Am Atomic” scene lives rent free in my head!

3a. Call of the Night

Yo, if you’d have tole me that another adaption of Kotoyama’s work would f*ck around and make it into the top five of my year end list, I'd have called you a liar. I couldn’t stand Dagashi Kashi but i saw potential in dude’s work. When Yofukashi no Uta released, i understood the hype. I was hooked by the time chapter one closed, couldn’t wait to see the adaption whenever it released, and absolutely did not disappoint. Call of the Night is a very solid narrative, shepherded by amazing character work, bu it’s the overall style of presentation that does it for me. This thing uses color like nothing I've seen in anime for years! I am so sincere when i say that this show is an absolute feast for the eyes. Also, that soundtrack is easily the best of the season. I mean, it’s tied with Edgerunners in that regard but it’s definitely up there. f*ck it, it’s tied with Edgerunners, period. I like this show that much!

3b. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

This one surprised me. I didn’t expect one of the most beautiful, one of the most grounded and emotionally resonate, anime of the year to come out of f*cking Trigger. I did not believe they had the maturity to write something so goddamn tragic and do the entire Cyberpunk franchise justice like Edgerunners. I thought their animation style and use of color would clash with the rather drab and neon tinted dystopia from the game. Wrong again. Edgerunners is one of the best anime I've ever seen in my entire life. It’s and incredibly and emotionally debilitating watch. I felt every emotion on the spectrum witnessing these character struggle against the overwhelming content that is Night City. Edgerunners is so f*cking food, man, and the only reason it’s not number one on this list is because is because i genuinely love the top two more. That’s it. On the merits, alone, it’s hard not to say Cyberpunk: Edgerunners isn’t the best anime of the year.

2. My Dress-Up Darling

In a year where Chainsawman, Spy x Family, and Sabikui Bisco get released, how does a slice of life, romcom, snatch up that number two spot? Because it f*cking deserved it! My Dress-Up Darling is f*cking brilliant and you’re crazy if you think any other anime stands a chance against this thing. If I'm being honest, bias aside, this one should take the top spot based strictly off the character work. The core relationship between Gojo and Marin is everything but all of the character presented are strong as f*ck. They feel real. Those interactions feel organic. Everything about My Dress-Up Darling is quality as f*ck and really tugs at the heart strings. If you’ve ever crushed on a person back in high school, this sh*t rings true. The ONLY reason this isn’t my number one is because of how much i love the Reincarnated as a Sword narrative, overall. That said, Marin Kitagawa is best girl of the season, fight me!

1. Reincarnated as a Sword

I loved this show, man. It deserves all of the shine it’s gotten to date. Admittedly, i was a fan long before the adaption was announced. I gushed about the manga months ago, you can search that up in this blog by punching in Murder Mittens, so my adoration for Fran’s misadventures was already at a fever pitch. When her show dropped and still felt faithful to the narrative on the page, i was hooked. Reincarnated as a Sword has no right to be as good as it is. The character work is strong as f*ck. The world-building is rich and very deep. The systems developed in order to explain the abilities of these fantastical characters, are detailed and make sense. Reincarnated as a Sword is a goddamn masterpiece and deserves all of the shine it’s got thus far. Read the light novel. Read the manga. Watch the anime. Buy the merch. Fran and Sensei deserves all of that.

hhhhhhhh okay okay okay okay so its raining out but we still were supposed to meet up and im standing outside with a cup of hot choco with extra whip cream just the way she likes it cause i wanted to get it for her and when she comes to meet me she also has a cup of hot choco with extra cocoa for me and its just the kinda heart and chest swelling kinda moment cause we both were thinking about each other and then we head over to watch the movies first something stupid yet enjoyable and after going to have some lunch at like a really good tofu house and then after going to an art museum and then ill say somethign cheesy like man im surprised you dont live here ‘why?’ cause youre a work of art or you know whats the most beautiful piece of art out of this whole exhibit ‘ooo was it the ______ or the _____ one or maybe its the ______?” nah its you and thats the main commentary im making through out the whole exhibition and like after that we head over to my place and the rains still coming down my head on her lap and her fingers through my hair as watch a movie both of us has seen far too many times already that it this point its just for the sake of background noise and like we swap spots where shes on my lap now adn eventually she falls asleep i carry her to the bed and let her nap for a bit and she wakes up after a while and comes into the kitchen and im cooking fried rice at like 3 in the morning and its just lazy hugs and bad singing but all in all its just relaxing soothing loving and everything i really want

oh fuck okay so its one where i got a like four big dogs (cause these are my faves), a samoyed a husky a german shepard and a pit bull, and im living in a nice decent place with my loved one i have a job either at one of the major animation studios or im working with a huge game company (preferably Nintendo so i can work on some loz games) and ive also got a seperate place thats a block or two away from my home and its my own personal studio a place that is just a whole floor dedicated to working on my art whether it be two dimensional traditional or digital and i also got a throwing wheel and a place to put my ceramics and ive made some movies and games that ive dedicated to mrs q and mrs y because theyve brought me so far in my art career and also played such a big role in my life in general and id love to make them proud and like honestly that soudns like the absolute shit to me

hhhhhhhh dude dude like mannnnnn like hhhhhh okay imma talk about loz for a sec and like i know i brought it up before but i love like so much okay like oot was my first time playing time playing any loz game and my lord it was the shit like the storyline the characters the graphics the sound track the quests and side characters liek everything really made it feel like so much mroe and like i feel so much for it like heres link growing up and hes like what around ten or so and hes got some friends and he finally gets his fairy and then his tree dad goes and dies right after telling him lmao sorry but you kinda gotta save the kingdom k bye and like this kid this kid literally knows jack shit about anything but he goes on and does it anyways he goes and helps zelda he goes and helps the people who are in trouble along the way and plays some rad ass tunes on his tiny lil ocarina of time while doing it and like even when he gets put into the future like he sitll has the mindset of a ten year old hes still as innocent and earnest and pure hearted as when he first started and like holy fuck dont get me started on sheik like shit sheik is so damn cool and like knowing that it was zelda all that time like fuck yeah zelda can kick ass fuck yeah zelda got muscles for days fuck yeah she can punt you across the kingdom and like at the end when she thanks him and sends him back and time so he can enjoy the lost time like shit dude i know zelda meant well and all but like hes experienced so much with and for her hes done so much give the kid a break and then even then navi in the end like leaves and then eveything continues in majoras mask and again hes in his ten year old body but now wiht the experiences and knowledge and basically memories from being seventeen like hes got so much mroe than what his body and mind should handle at this point and he wanders into the forest again all in search for an old friend to look for navi and like when he gets sent to termina after trying to chase after skull kid and like havign those nightmares witht he scrubs like hes gone through so much and i only want more for him and like he doesnt have to save termina he doesnt he doesnt need to do anything he can let termina get smooshed to smitherins by the moon for all the work hes already done for hyrule but he does it anyway and he rewinds time again and again and again and again so he can fix all of these problems for all of these people he does all of this to bring some sort of proper ending for these people who have the last three days of their lives the last three days before their deaths repeat over and over and over and over and over again and he saves them each and every time he rewinds time and he goes through all this shit i mean this ten year old mother fucker is doing olympic bakc flips and twirls and shit after oot like shit boi and then like oh myy gooddddd like damn botw like fuck dude that game means a whole lot to me like its lacking a lil bit in the presence of an evil and i mena i know its ganon and all but like shit i could ignore that motherfucker for all eternity if he wasnt being such a total asshat to zelda and like i mainly beat that motherfucker up just for zelda like for once in a game ive never wanted more to save her like they went so much into detail abotu her and like dude those memories thos cutscenes? like that shit made everythign and i truly love her she works so hard and shes held up to this image of being extremely spiritiually adept because of all her ancestors ebcause of all the other zeldas but she jsut cant she jsut cant do the same thing and so she tries in other ways she tries to udnerstand and get a grasp on sheikah and ancient tech so she can at least be prepared to stand against the calamity when it does come and like the champions all worry about her like the girl nearly got herself killed in the process of trying to awaken her so called spiritual powers and like dude finding out that in the beginning zelda legit hated links ass like they put so much mroe into her like she she hated seeing that he was a prodigy that he didnt have a single trouble in the world and then finally link speaks up and he tells her he talks to her about why he keeps quiet and like the two finally bond and like the two dorks love each other so much that it really does go beyond friendship and romance like they legit would die for each other that one time that zelda was this fucking close to getting her ass handed to her on a silver platter and link was beat the fuck up like he went to save her and then the time when link was basically on his death bed and a guardian was about to pulverize him zelda stood between him and the guardian this bitch wasnt even thinking about having her spiritual powers she was legit ready to die for him if it meant he could run away and get to safety and i mean luckily she her spiritual powers did come out but she legit realized it when she was so genuinely scared but chose to stand up cause she cared for him so much and like these two kids fight so much and have gone through a lot both on their own times and also together but like i love them so much no matter what timeline theyre in

my lord i want life to point me in the right direction tbqh or at least give me a mentor for some help like please ive been guiding and doing everything myself this whole time give me a break like after reading all the stories for lang and lit like it makes me feel so lost in what im doing like after catcher in the rye and playing the role of holden caulfield and denying that i fit any part of the role and then realizing how similar i was to him and then reading death of a salesman and relating to biff and reading raisin in the sun and relating to beneatha like shit i really felt lost like ive been talking about it with my therapist lately and like yeah i think i really need some direction or reassurance or a mentor or at least something in my life thats consistent cause right now im a complete mess
