I was asleep.
Everyone remembers where they were. I was sleeping.
I was in college then. Summer quarter had ended a few weeks ago, and Fall quarter was a few weeks away, so I had nothing to do that Tuesday. I was sleeping.
My mother would get up to help get my father ready for work. He'd leave a little after 6 AM. Then she'd stay up and turn on the KTLA Morning News. We weren't in Southern California, but we'd lived there and had family connections there, so it felt like a "local" newscast, even though it was a thousand miles away. So most weekdays, I'd fade into consciousness, hearing the rhythm of the broadcast.
Carlos to Mark, Mark to Jennifer, Jennifer to Sam, Commercial, Repeat.
That morning, none of that.
I couldn't really hear what was going on, but it wasn't normal. There were no jokes, no music, no commercials, no changes. Just a steady drone.
I started to listen, to try to hear what was happening.
I heard something about the Pentagon and a bomb at the State Department.
Well. That's not good.
I roll out of bed and into the living room. It was a little after 7:30.
There's a helicopter shot of giant cloud of dust on the TV. Dust. A few buildings. here and there. But dust. Everywhere. It looked like Mt. St. Helens had moved to the city and erupted.
It wasn't the Pentagon. It wasn't the State Department. Was that New York?
"Planes hit the World Trade Center towers." My mother's voice is shaky.
Okay, then, somewhere in that dust are the towers. They build those things to survive plane strikes. It survived the bomb in '93. The Empire State Building got hit by a plane and it's still standing. She told me that they'd fallen, but I didn't believe her. I couldn't believe her. They're just hidden by the dust and the dust will clear.
The dust will clear. The towers can't just fall. You'll see.
The dust will clear.
There was nothing there.

We watched what was unfolding on the other side of the continent all day long. I think my father got sent home early and joined us.
Watching a day like that unfold live is an experience that's hard to describe. You look back now, and there's a clear timeline, there are clear events. But on that day, nothing was clear. The news was an unbroken stream of numbing repetition and confusion. The anchors narrating what's going on have a worse view of it than you do, because they're squinting at small monitors halfway across the studio. You can flip between CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and pick up little tidbits here and there, but they can't. They only have what comes through their earpiece, what ends up on their TelePrompTer, what's handed to them on paper. No one knows what's going on, not even the people telling you what's going on.
That day was full of rumors and confusion. There were attacks at the State Department and the FBI, there was a plane that had crashed in rural Pennsylvania, there was a plane that had been hijacked in Alaska. We didn't know what was real, and what was a phantom of fear. But mostly, it was just the numbing repetition. There was nothing new to add. Nothing more to say at 1 PM that hadn't been said at noon. What got repeated is what had happened, what didn't get repeated hadn't. The plane crash in Pennsylvania got repeated. The attack at the State Department didn't.
All day long, it was the same video from earlier in the day. Maybe a new angle as reporters and survivors got their footage to a TV station. But we watched it again and again. Maybe there'd be a new detail to see, something to fill in another piece of the What The Fuck Just Happened puzzle we were now living in.
In a weird way, that day didn't seem as bad as it went on and the rumors subsided and the scope became clear. My morning started with a dust cloud that covered all of Lower Manhattan and obscured what had happened. Had the towers toppled sideways and crushed dozens of buildings for blocks around? It was 9 AM on a Tuesday, a work day, those buildings were full, and the area was a major commuter hub. 10000 people in each building, maybe tens of thousands passing through, hundreds of thousands in that cloud of dust. There's no one alive down there. The initial estimates they gave were 20-30 thousand in the collapsed towers alone, to say nothing of the people suffocated by that cloud of dust and smoke. And then Washington DC is under attack and they're even hijacking planes in Alaska. What are they going to do to us next? But the death toll steadily dropped, other rumored attacks were found to be false alarms, they didn't come back for a second round. But that "good" news didn't make us feel any better. What would've made us feel better would've been word that they had been rescuing dozens of people from the rubble, stories of survivors being found days later, but that news never came.

Where's the President? Why haven't we seen the President? Why hasn't he said anything?
"He's safe and in an undisclosed location."
On September 10th, George W. Bush was just a bumbling dumbass who'd stolen the election from Gore. He wasn't yet a warmonger, although he'd surrounded himself with them.
On September 11th, Bush was still a bumbling dumbass, but he was our President. I was actually glad that he was invisible and hidden most of that day. We didn't know what in the hell was going on. If I knew where the President was, then the assholes who did this to us would know where he was, and no matter how much I didn't like the guy, I certainly didn't want to see a terrorist attack on Air Force One or the White House.
But I was worried that he'd send in the missiles and bombers and turn everything from Morocco to Pakistan to ash, which is what some people were calling for before we even knew who was responsible. And that's not what happened. All that happened that day was... nothing. I respected that, and I still respect that. Rushing headlong into revenge isn't what we needed that day.
---
We ended that day, not with Dan Rather or Peter Jennings or Tom Brokaw, but with Hal Fishman, legendary anchor on the KTLA News at Ten. He was a plane guy. He'd know what happened. He was comfortable to us, familiar, and we needed to know there was still something out there comfortable and familiar.
---
The next day, my mother wanted a break from it all, so we went shopping. I don't think we needed to, and Wednesday wasn't the normal shopping day, but we just had to get out, so we went to Wal-Mart.
Throughout the store, there were TVs hanging from the ceiling. Normally, they'd show ads and music videos and things. Not that day. They were all tuned to CNN. People stopped in the middle of the aisle, watching Condoleezza Rice or Donald Rumsfeld or Colin Powell or whoever giving a press conference.
There was no break from it.
---
Does everyone else know it was a Tuesday? I mean, just know. Like somehow that is an important, integral part of what happened that day. Because I know it was a Tuesday with that same fierceness as I know that the towers fell. I don't remember all the flight numbers or which tower was hit first or which one fell first or even a single word of what the President said that night, but I know it was a Tuesday. And I don't understand why.
---
I've cried over it. I just did while writing all this. It's one of the few things I have cried about. But it's never sustained weeping. One tear. Maybe two. It feels like it should be more, but then it's like the scale becomes incomprehensible and unreal and it stops. What good will my tears do? They won't fix it. They won't change it.
---
"Never Forget", they say, but twenty years on, many of you have no memory of that day, maybe even weren't born yet. You've only seen the packaged videos from the perfect camera angles. You know what happened, the full story told from beginning to end across three acts in a two hour movie. You know the death toll, you know about the box cutters, you know how Osama Bin Laden ends, you know where the undisclosed location is, you know about the plane that said "Let's Roll". We didn't know any of that, sometimes for days or weeks or years. We only knew shock and confusion and sadness and anger and numbness and a giant cloud of dust that has not cleared and will never clear and still coats everything in our lives, even if we were thousands of miles away.
For those of us who saw that day...
Never forget?
How could we?

Excerpt from this story from EcoWatch:
As the call to protect 30 percent of land and ocean ecosystems by 2030 gains momentum, how much of Earth is currently protected?
That is the question answered by the latest Protected Planet Report, released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) on Wednesday, as ABC News reported. The latest edition of the biennial report had some good news — at least 17 percent of land environments are protected as of 2020 — but the quality of those protected areas could still be improved.
"Protected and conserved areas play a crucial role in tackling biodiversity loss, and great progress has been made in recent years on strengthening the global network of protected and conserved areas," UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre director Neville Ash said in a press release. "However, designating and accounting for more protected and conserved areas is insufficient; they need to be effectively managed and equitably governed if they are to realise their many benefits at local and global scales and secure a better future for people and planet."
The report set out to assess how well world leaders had succeeded at meeting 11 of the 20 biodiversity targets set by the UN Convention on Biodiversity at a 2010 meeting in Aichi, Japan. An assessment last year showed that none of these targets had been met in full. However, the new report indicates that, at least on target 11, the world has made meaningful progress.

With wildfire threatening, Lake Tahoe prepares for emergency (AP) The decision to flee their home Thursday in the mountains above Lake Tahoe became clear when Johnny White and Lauren McCauley could see flames on the webcam at their local ski resort. Even as ash rained down under a cloud of heavy smoke, the couple wasn’t panicked because they had an early warning to leave their home near Echo Summit, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of the lake, and wanted to avoid last-minute pandemonium if the wildfire continued its march toward the tourist destination on the California and Nevada border. Firefighters were facing changing weather conditions that could push the fire closer to the Tahoe Basin, a home to thousands and recreational playground for millions of tourists who visit the alpine lake in summer, ski at the many resorts in winter and gamble at its casinos year-round. Fires in California have destroyed around 2,000 structures and forced thousands to evacuate while also blanketing large swaths of the West in unhealthy smoke.
The Western air crisis (NYT) “We have had smoke in the sky literally since the third week of July,” Amy Ginder, a 47-year-old resident of Reno, said. “We have been inhaling toxins for five weeks now. You can’t be outside. You can’t breathe. You can’t see the sun. In response, Ginder has stopped jogging outdoors. “If it were just this summer, you’d just suck it up and move on,” she said. “But it isn’t. It’s the realization that this is our future.” Smoke-clogged air has become a regular part of life in the American West. Climate change has increased the frequency of droughts, extreme heat and, by extension, large wildfires. The smoke then drifts across large parts of the Pacific Coast and Mountain West. Sometimes, it even reaches the East Coast. One measure of the problem: In several places yesterday—including Bend, Ore.; an area north of Sacramento; and Lake Tahoe—air pollution reached levels that can damage lungs when people spend time outdoors. Phil Abernathy, a Lake Tahoe resident who decided to flee the area in search of cleaner air, told The Times that simply inhaling can feel like a “sizable man is standing on my chest.”
Tropical Storm Ida Forms in Caribbean, Heading for Louisiana (Bloomberg) Tropical Storm Ida has formed in the Caribbean and is forecast to a grow into a powerful hurricane in the days ahead, wreaking havoc across the Gulf of Mexico and ultimately crashing into the U.S coast. Ida, the ninth storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, is swirling past Jamaica, with top winds of 40 miles (64 kilometers) per hour. It’s forecast to strike Cuba Friday, reach hurricane strength over the gulf Saturday and make landfall in Louisiana or Mississippi late Sunday or Monday. “Sunday is the anniversary of Katrina—it seems like a particularly cruel date for a hurricane landfall in Louisiana,” said Ryan Truchelut, president of Weather Tiger LLC. said in an interview. The storm’s winds are forecast to peak at 110 miles per hour (177 kilometers per hour), which would put it just below Category 3 major hurricane status on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale, the National Hurricane Center said Thursday. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm.
Nowhere To Go (AP) The earthquake in Haiti killed and injured thousands, and wiped away thousands of homes. Now, a more grim reality is setting in for those who survived and were hospitalized—if released, they have nowhere to go. 25-year-old Jertha Ylet came to the hospital on August 14, unconscious and with a crushed leg. Her 5-year-old daughter survived unharmed, but her father and two other relatives were killed, her brother seriously injured and her house destroyed. A surgeon had put a metal rod in her lower left leg, but Ylet hadn’t been out of bed or tried to walk since she arrived. Ylet was discharged Thursday—the hospital needed her bed for other patients. “I said to the doctor, ‘I don’t have any place to go,’” Ylet said. Medical staff is sympathetic, but pragmatic. The beds are needed. “After someone gets well they have to go.” In the first days after the earthquake, the hospital was overwhelmed with patients. The injured lay on patios and breezeways awaiting care. Now there are still people in those areas, but they’re discharged patients or others never admitted at all but who are coming for the donations of food and water and clothing arriving at the hospital daily.
Biden: ‘We Will Hunt You Down’ (Foreign Policy) Hours after the Islamic State launched a coordinated suicide bomb attack among the desperate crowds gathered outside Kabul’s international airport on Thursday, U.S. President Joe Biden vowed to continue evacuations—and to retaliate against the perpetrators. “Know this: We will not forgive, we will not forget,” he said in a speech from the White House. “We will hunt you down and make you pay.” The attack killed more than 70 Afghan civilians and 13 U.S. troops in at least two blasts, leaving the area around the airport in chaos. Members of the Islamic State group’s local branch, known as Islamic State-Khorasan, detonated suicide vests at the airport’s Abbey Gate and outside the nearby Baron Hotel. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attack, which underscores the security challenges the group faces as it formally establishes a government in Kabul. It remains unclear whether a military response to the bombings is already being undertaken, and if the United States has adequate capacity on the ground to carry it out. [Note: The death toll has been updated to as many as 169 Afghans.]
As NATO countries end their Kabul airlift, many interpreters, embassy staffers and drivers are left behind (Washington Post) Thousands of Afghans who put their lives at risk to work with America's NATO allies have been left behind as the military evacuations wrap up and they hunker down in fear over Taliban reprisals. Britain became the latest nation to announce an end to its airlifts on Friday, as Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told LBC radio that evacuations would end in hours. The military has airlifted nearly 14,000 people out over the past two weeks, but “the sad fact is that not every single one will get out,” he said, with up to 1,100 eligible Afghans who “didn’t make it.” Other countries fell further short of their targets. Germany, whose last soldiers flew out of Afghanistan on Thursday evening, said it had rescued around 4,000 Afghans—far shy of the 10,000 people it had identified as at risk. From Berlin to Ottawa, questions have been raised as to why more was not done to save those who were vulnerable sooner. “I think humanity has fallen apart,” said one employee of a local nongovernmental organization contracted by the German government. He shared a photo of what he said was one of his colleagues, beheaded by the Taliban when they took over his neighborhood. “It feels as though I am so alone,” he said, his voice breaking as he spoke. European governments have said they were left with little choice but to end their military rescue operations as the United States pulls out.
Afghanistan’s Islamic State (AP) The Islamic State offshoot that Americans blame for Thursday’s deadly suicide attacks outside the Kabul airport coalesced in eastern Afghanistan six years ago, and rapidly grew into one of the more dangerous terror threats globally. The Islamic State’s Central Asia affiliate sprang up in the months after the group’s core fighters swept across Syria and Iraq, carving out a self-styled caliphate, or Islamic empire, in the summer of 2014. The group started as several hundred Pakistani Taliban fighters, who took refuge across the border in Afghanistan after military operations drove them out of their home country. Other, like-minded extremists joined them there, including disgruntled Afghan Taliban fighters unhappy with what they—unlike the West—saw as the Taliban’s overly moderate and peaceful ways. As the Taliban pursued peace talks with the United States in recent years, discontented Taliban increasingly moved to the more extremist Islamic State, swelling its numbers. Many were attracted to the Islamic State’s violent and extreme ideology, including promises of a caliphate to unite the Islamic world, a goal never espoused by the Taliban.
Afghanistan got just 5 minutes of coverage on the network newscasts last year, analysis says (The Week) The current chaos in Afghanistan may be dominating the headlines, but in 2020, the war reportedly received just a handful of minutes of network news coverage throughout the entire year. According to analysis from the Tyndall Report via the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, the national evening newscasts on CBS, ABC, and NBC in 2020 devoted just five minutes to Afghanistan coverage. The coverage came in February 2020, when the Trump administration announced the Doha agreement with the Taliban to end the war. "Five minutes!" Andrew Tyndall writes. "Such were the demands on the news agenda of the looming coronavirus pandemic in the early spring of 2020. Coverage of all other developments was eclipsed by COVID. The networks had long since given up covering the war as a war." [Since 2014] they "have treated the role of the military there as an afterthought," he said.
New Zealand extends virus lockdown (AP) New Zealand’s government has extended a strict nationwide lockdown through Tuesday as it tries to quash its first outbreak of the coronavirus in six months. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Friday the government expects to keep Auckland, where most of the cases have been found, in full lockdown for at least two more weeks. But she expects most other parts of the country can ease restrictions slightly from Wednesday. The announcement came as health authorities reported 70 new daily cases, the most yet in the outbreak, which has grown to nearly 350 cases in total. Ardern said there was evidence the lockdown was working and new case numbers were beginning to level off. She said she remained committed to the strategy of eliminating the virus entirely.
Gunmen release students in northern Nigeria 3 months later (AP) Gunmen have released some of the children kidnapped from a school in northern Nigeria back in May, some of whom were as young as 5 years old, the school’s head teacher said late Thursday. He could not confirm the exact number freed. Authorities have said that 136 children were abducted along with several teachers when gunmen on motorcycles attacked the Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Niger state. Other preschoolers were left behind as they could not keep pace when the gunmen hurriedly moved those abducted into the forest. The release came a day after local media quoted one parent as saying six of the children had died in captivity. The government has been unable to halt the spate of abductions for ransom. As a result, many schools have been forced to close due to the concerns about the kidnapping risk.
Gig apps for a pandemic economy (AP) For months, Gabrielle Walker had been looking for a part-time job. Then one day, Walker, a 19-year-old student at University College London, was scrolling through TikTok and stumbled on a video about an app called Stint, which helps students earn money by working brief temporary stints at places like restaurants and bars that require little training or experience. Walker downloaded the app, took a 15-minute intro course and days later snagged a job polishing cutlery at a Michelin-star restaurant in London—for one day. Between May and June, she took on several other gigs, squeezing them into her class schedule where she could. Stint, in use across the U.K., has grown in popularity, alongside similar apps in the United States like Instawork and Gigpro, as one response to the peculiar ways in which economies have been rebounding from the pandemic recession. In contrast to Stint, Instawork and Gigpro are suited more for skilled or experienced workers who want or need short-term shifts. Collectively, the newer apps represent a variation on the many gig apps that sprang up in recent years—from Uber and DoorDash to TaskRabbit and Thumbtack—that typically serve households in need of a one-time service. What distinguishes the latest apps is that they link workers with employers that have a steady need for labor but don’t necessarily want to commit to permanent hires given the uncertainties from the pandemic.

Until Dawn’s Fifth Birthday
Welp, congrats Until Dawn, you’re officially old enough to start kindergarten. You’re off to learn to read, tie your shoes, recite yous ABC’s, and learn to count to 100. Your such a big kid now, and I’m proud of you for making it this far.
I know I have done literal jack shit for the entire month, but I have been immensely enjoying the things that everyone’s been putting out for this month. So I’m gonna make this text post, not just because of it’s the five year anniversary, but because it’s actually a post I’ve been wanting to make for a while.
So here it goes:
I first learned of Until Dawn when it first came out hilariously enough. My roommate at the time had boughten it for her ps4 and I had been seeing it all over my dashboard on tumblr at the time. I didn’t play it myself though until close to a year later, when I finally had my own ps4 and I bought the game used for like $20 or something from my local game rental store. And I was hooked.
I remember jumping the first time the UD logo pulls that jump scare on the title screen. And laughing because I’m normally pretty good with jump scares, but that one managed to get me because I hadn’t been expecting one before I even started the game. (The one thing in the game that manages to make me jump every time is the mine cart you stop as Mike. For whatever reason it doesn’t matter how dark my room is when I play the game or how many times I’ve played it, I can never see the mine cart until its literally on top of Mike and the QTE is almost up and I squeak in surprise every fucking time.)
Of course I didn’t manage to save everyone during my first playthrough, I definitely lost Matt to the hook and Ash to the trapdoor (RIP darlings), and for the life of me I can’t recall how the lodge scene at the end went. I’m one of those players though that try to make choices that the characters I’m playing as would, I throw my feelings by the wayside. For example, being in the shed when the game’s making me choose Ash or Josh, and I was debating on whether or not Chris would save the girl he’s had a major crush on for a while at least, or his best friend for the last ten years. I distinctly remember wincing and sucking in air through my teeth and going “Sorry Ash, bros before hoes” and choosing Josh. And then being confused and convinced that I misunderstood the instructions? I mean I wasn’t complaining, just really, really confused. I definitely choose Ash to live at the gun one though, like there was no hesitation. I watched the whole ‘only thing I’ve ever wanted to do with my time’ scene and talk and the moment control was given back to me, the gun was under Chris’s jaw and I fired.
I’m also one of the players that didn’t know that Josh had been behind everything until the reveal either. I had gotten Sam captured so I never got any of those clues and I managed to miss the other clues that hinted at it being a set up (like the bundle of newspapers). So until the reveal I was still convinced that someone was out there killing all of them. Listen, I like mystery games but I’m not very good at connecting the dots okay.
I think I stuck around for a couple of months, gorging myself of fanfiction (all ff.net stuff by the way, I can’t remember if I knew about ao3 at that point or not) but like all interests do with me, the obsession eventually faded (helped in a large part by the rampant Ashley hate going around at the time) and I moved on.
Until February of this year. I was trying to kill time till the end of March when Persona 5: Royal released and I decided to try and see how many games I could platinum until that point. I had made it through the ps3 tomb raider games, Prince of Persia 2008, and decided on replaying the Uncharted games because the ps4 collection didn’t have multiplayer trophies. I hadn’t even thought of replaying Until Dawn. I mean, I had looked at the case and I remembered the game fondly, but that was it. There was no urge or want.
I was halfway through Among Thieves when I was bored and chilling time on Youtube. And because I had been watching a couple of videos for the treasure locations in Uncharted, one of the recommended videos for me was a game sins for the series. I decided sure why not, and watched it. And watched a few of his other ones as well, Until Dawn included.
That’s right, what got me back into the series wasn’t fond nostalgia for the characters or story. It was a fucking Game Sins video. I’m so sorry.
I was devouring UD content again. I spent like 2 or 3 weeks reading everything Chrashley (with the hyper-fixation for the game back came the ship, what can I say) based on ao3 that I could get my hands on. I was back into the tag on tumblr, going through art I remembered seeing way back when and looking at usernames that didn’t mean a thing then, but mean the world to me now. And then near the end of February, when the obsession was once again starting to flag, I decided to hell with it, and clicked on the The (Almost)s.
I’m not going to expunge all my praises for the story, everyone else has done that better then I ever could. But guys, it was so good. So so good. I was hooked back into the series once again, just as I was starting to flag. And when I saw that @queenofbaws had mentioned that she was tumblr... I didn’t do anything right away. Too scared really, figured she might find it creepy, so I didn’t do anything for like a week. And then I decided fuck it, sent a message about Chris giving Ash his sweater, and following her.
And that was it. I figured I would stick around to see the story completed and just dip. Not even make a splash, just enjoy the content from the sidelines and no one would know that I was here in the first place. Same old, same old. But that was also when I started turning around the kernel in my mind that Baby It’s Cold Outside (so hold me tight in your arms and don’t let go). I didn’t even intend to write it, it was just going to be the fanfic that lived in my mind for me to stew on before bed every night. But I couldn’t sleep one night, my brain was too on and the words just weren’t stopping, so I pulled out my computer and wrote the first part from Chris standing in the snow outside to him reaching the lodge at like 3 in the morning.
I started becoming more involved in the fandom when queenie started her wip wednesdays and asked to be tagged. Hilariously enough, those days are what started me cross-stitching again too, I hadn’t touched the pattern in months at that point. So I started posting snippets of my writing, and that one day a week was the only thing pushing me to continue writing. By that point, I had stopped hanging around the edges, now trying to push myself closer into this little fandom circle.
The day I posted the story, I was fucking terrified. It wasn’t my first story, not by a long shot, but I had always considered my writing to be shit. I thought I had good ideas, but I never felt that I was able to truly bring them to life. English and grammar had never been my best subject, I was always more of a math and physics person growing up. But then that first comment from @elliepollie came in and I almost burst into tears. I couldn’t believe that someone out there liked it so much, that they were willing to leave me a review in the first place. I’m still so blown away that she was willing to recommend it as a Chrashley story for other people to read. I think that was the point I stopped hesitantly pushing my way through, and I just kicked down the doors and just yelled ‘Hey fuckers! I’m here now and you are going to fucking deal with it!’.
That was the event that opened the floodgates for me. Suddenly I was talking to people, I had friends online with the same interests as me. I’ve written more in the last six months then I’ve done in the last ten years! I’m feeling inspired to create again. I actually went out to do the first commission I’ve ever requested (speaking of which, please please please go commisson @fudgeroach. I cannot wait until he can post and show you guys the stuff he drew for me. It was worth every fucking penny let me tell you.)
I’m going to be honest, Until Dawn isn’t my favourite game. Sure it has some of my fav lines (it had been years since I played the game, and the moment Jess started her rant outside the guest cabin I was screaming it along with her) and great characters, as horrible people as they all are, but it’s never been my favourite game and likely never will be. But Until Dawn has the best fandom I’ve ever been in and I’m so, so happy to have met and known every single person here. I seriously love every single person here so, so much. You all make my life better and I’m so happy to have all of you in it. Just to quote Chris because I can: “Every second I spend with you is all I ever wanted to do with my time.” This is how I feel. This is how I feel every goddamn day now.
So yeah, I got back into this fandom from a stupid Game Sins video. But by god if it wasn’t the best choice I’ve ever made.
(PS: for those wondering, I never did finish Uncharted 2. Maybe one day...)

#SingleParents Season 1
It was one of the best new comedies of 2018-2019 if you haven't seen Single Parents, why not? Single Parents is mainly "Friends" with kids that's just funny, brilliant and has a lot of heart. The premise is about how a group of single parents, who sees a newly single parent named Will and how he's so invested in being a part of his daughter's life during the first day of school. They soon decide to help him. Like Will (played by Taran Killman), there are other single parents like Angie (played by Leighton Meester) a single mother with a needy kid, Douglas (played by Brad Garrett) an older single father with identical twin girls who put himself first and them to work, Poppy (Kimmie Lewis) a single mother with a son and Miggy (Jake Choi) a young father with a baby. Each character shows their struggles and strengths in their parenting. While the jokes seem a bit juvenile at times, it fits the characters in the embarrassing parent jokes. Both Killman and Meester work so well together with their chemistry. It's Brad Garrett that really shines in this series as it shines in this series; which is something that I've had a hard time since the end of Raymond. And not to mention, the kids on the show are a total delight to watch; especially the twins as they could be like the Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen meets the twins from The Shinning. I was never really into the series from the start, the promos and trailers didn't really sell it to me. But during the middle of the first season, I jump in and watch the first couple of episodes; and even though the pilot was a bit weak, it got better and better with it's writing and character development. Overall, I give the first season an 8/10.
Have you checked the show out? What are your thoughts on the show? Leave a comment and tell us your thoughts.
You can catch the first season of Single Parents on the ABC App or Hulu, iTunes and Google Play. The second season premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.

Hebrew Scripture Lesson from The Twelve Prophets: Joel 2:1-2, 12-17
(The alternate reading, Isaiah 58:1-12, is below)
Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming, it is near— a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness spread upon the mountains a great and powerful army comes; their like has never been from of old, nor will be again after them in ages to come.¹
Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord, your God?
Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children, even infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her canopy.
Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep. Let them say, “Spare your people, O Lord, and do not make your heritage a mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, ‘where is their God?’”
¹This verse is reflected in two passages about The Desolating Sacrilege, Matthew 24:15-27 and Mark 13:14-23.
Hebrew Scripture Lesson from The Latter Prophets: Isaiah 58:1-12
(The alternate reading, Joel 2:1-2, 12-17, is above)
Shout out, do not hold back! Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins. Yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments, they delight to draw near to God. “Why do we fast, but you do not see? Why humble ourselves, but you do not notice?” Look, you serve your own interest on your fast day, and oppress all your workers. Look, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to strike with a wicked fist. Such fasting as you do today will not make your voice heard on high. Is such the fast that I choose, a day to humble oneself? Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush, and to lie in sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?¹ Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.
If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.
¹This verse is quoted in Luke 4:18-19, a passage about the rejection of Jesus at Nazareth.
Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified in your sentence and blameless when you pass judgment.¹ Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.
You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, then you will delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
¹This verse is quoted in part in Romans 3:4, part of a passage about Jews and the law.
New Testament Epistle Lesson: 2 Corinthians 5:20b-6:10
We entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says,
“At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”¹
See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! We are putting no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as imposters, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see—we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
¹Isaiah 49:8
New Testament Gospel Lesson: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21
There is a parallel passage about storing treasures in heaven at Luke 12:33-34.
[{Matthew 5:1-2}When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them saying:]
“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
“And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
“And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Summary: Tom does his best to explain himself to Thalia, to try to keep her from rebuilding the brick wall between them.
Previous Chapter, Second Chances
“Yes, yes. I understand.” Tom speaks into the phone. His hand wildly grasps for Thalia’s, but she shakes him off. If a man could die from a woman’s glare, he’d be burned to ashes in an instant. He keeps his eyes locked on her, trying to silently convey this isn’t his fault. “Can this wait? I’ve told you, I’ve made the latest flight I can get, and I can be at the office first thing in the morning.”
“Flight?” Thalia mouths, dropping her bag on the bed next to his.
He shakes his head, closing his eyes and looking up to the ceiling, raking his other hand through his messy curls. “Dammit, can we not do this? Don’t speak to me like that, please. We promised to be civil, and I mean to keep to my word. I promised I’d take care of it, and I will. I’ve changed my plans to come back to London, isn’t that enough?” He listens, irritation etched on his face as he slowly lowers his glance, turning his eyes back on Thalia. Her jaw twitches as she folds her arms over her chest. He sighs. “No. No, I’m not done with my research and the reparations I need to make here in Spain. As soon as I can clear up these other troubles, I’ll probably be coming back here to Madrid.” He lifts his eyes hopefully to Thalia, and she turns on her heels away from him, stomping into the bathroom and slamming the door.

ABC NEWS ANNOUNCES NEW PODCAST SERIES CHRONICLING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MAMIE TILL-MOBLEY
First Episode of ‘Reclaimed: The Story of Mamie Till-Mobley' Debuts Wednesday, June 1
*ABC News
Today, ABC News released the trailer for its new three-part podcast series, “Reclaimed: The Story of Mamie Till-Mobley.” Hosted by historian and ABC News contributor Leah Wright-Rigueur, the new series chronicles the life and legacy of Mamie Till-Mobley, whose fight for justice after her son’s brutal murder helped spark the civil rights movement. The first episode of “Reclaimed: The Story of Mamie Till-Mobley" debuts Wednesday, June 1, with new episodes posting weekly. The podcast promotes and updates ABC News’ limited docuseries “Let The World See,” streaming now on Hulu.
In 1955, Mamie Till-Mobley’s 14-year-old son, Emmett Till, was accused of offending a white woman in a Mississippi grocery store. Shortly after, a group of men kidnapped Emmett from a relative’s home and a local fisherman discovered his tortured body in the Tallahatchie River. Using Till-Mobley’s own words, as well as interviews from family members and other eyewitnesses, “Reclaimed” tells the story of a woman, mother and activist who made the courageous decision to let the world see the injustice and brutality her son faced.
The podcast series details Till-Mobley’s early upbringing in the Chicago area as well as the pivotal moments in her life, including her defiant and consequential choice to hold an open-casket funeral for Emmett, which shocked the world and inspired many heroes of the civil rights movement. It also includes lesser-known details about the 1945 death of her husband, Louis Till, who the U.S. military executed in France during World War II.
Drawing from the ABC News limited docuseries, “Let the World See,” and over 40 hours of interviews, the podcast features reflections from former First Lady Michelle Obama, who discusses the social and political environment in Chicago in the 1950s and her connection to the city. The series also features interviews with Emmett Till’s cousin Rev. Wheeler Parker, who witnessed Emmett’s kidnapping; individuals who attended the trial of the men charged with Emmett’s murder; as well as historical and legal experts who provide context to these events and Till-Mobley’s impact on American history.
The series is part of ABC Audio’s newly rebranded “Reclaimed” podcast feed, which launched in 2021 with the release of “Soul of a Nation: Tulsa’s Buried Truth.” The new “Reclaimed” feed focuses on the people, events and moments that have rested on the periphery of history. Each season seeks to uncover the hidden truths in familiar stories by shedding light on those who have been overlooked.
“Reclaimed: The Story of Mamie Till-Mobley” is available for free on major listening platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, TuneIn, Audacy and the ABC News app. “Reclaimed” is the latest addition to the free “ABC News” channel on Apple Podcasts, one of the top-ranked channels in 2021.
“Reclaimed” is produced by ABC Audio. Liz Alesse is vice president of ABC Audio and executive producer of this podcast.

TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN GOD'S MIGHTY, MERCIFUL AND MYSTERIOUS PROVIDENCE IS THE TRUTH THAT SETS US FREE FROM FEAR, WORRY AND DOUBT.
EXERCISE THIS TRUST AND CONFIDENCE AND SEE IT GROW.
"Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, “Follow me.” And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him. Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were at table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus said to them in reply, “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” (Luke 5: 25 - 32).
Saturday 5th February 2022, Saturday after Ash Wednesday.
The Pharisees and their scribes became scandalized when they saw that Jesus ate with sinners and tax collectors.
Jesus heard their murmuring and said to them: “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”
Levi who is also called Matthew left everything: job, money, house and property and friends and followed the stranger named Jesus. This strikes me as a great act of faith. Matthew was not a saint when Jesus called him. But Jesus did not come to call saints. Paul describes his own calling thus:
"I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 1: 12 - 14).
The word Mercy is found in the Bible countless times. Abba Father Himself is described as the "Father of mercy and God of all consolation." (2 Corinthians 1: 3).
In the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we find abundant mercy waiting for everyone. To receive mercy is as simple as ABC:
+Ask for Mercy.
+Be Merciful.
+Completely trust Jesus for Mercy.
Jesus delights in sinners because sinners give Him the opportunity to show off His mercy. Why did Jesus institute the Sacred Heart of Jesus Devotion? The Divine Mercy Devotion? Jesus delights in mercy.
"My apostles wanted for nothing so long as I was with them. In having Me in their midst, they had the very Source and Creator of all that is, that was, and that ever will be. You have Me close to you. I am here before you in the Sacrament of My love. Remain with Me for My sake; I will provide for you." (IN SINU JESU, Tuesday, February 3, 2009)

Ash Wednesday
Hebrew Scripture Lesson (Minor Prophets): Joel 2:1-2, 12-17
(The alternate reading, Isaiah 58:1-12, is below)
Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming, it is near— a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness spread upon the mountains a great and powerful army comes; their like has never been from of old, nor will be again after them in ages to come.
Hebrew Scripture (Latter Prophets): Isaiah 58:1-12
((The alternate reading, Joel 2:1-2, 12-17, is above))
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified in your sentence and blameless when you pass judgment. Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.

Title: Wednesday’s Child Summary: The next time Emma Swan wanted magical help, she was on her own. Because now they were stuck with a pint-sized savior who clearly had an attitude problem and a terrified but pretending not to be pre-pirate. Spoilers: If you’re current, we’re good. Rating/Warning: PG-13, mostly for safety. Family angst/fluff, as per usual. Disclaimer: Once Upon a Time and its characters were created by Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz and are owned by ABC. I’m just borrowing them but I’ll put them back when I’m finished! Author's Note: For the purposes of this story, we can pretend that Wilby came over in the first Curse and has just been hanging out at the animal shelter this whole time, yes? O:)

Apparently, little Killian had never had such a large wardrobe in his young life. "This is all for me?" he murmured, his bright blue eyes wide as they took in the sheer amount of clothing now piled on the bed in his new room.
"Looks like it, buddy," Charming replied as he swallowed his own surprise. It appeared as if Regina had emptied her attic of all of Henry's outfits! There were jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, and pajama sets as far as the eye could see. And they'd only opened the bag with the boys' clothing; they still had a whole bag for Emma lying in wait for her to go through.
Charming reached for a pair of jeans and folded them. After watching him for a beat, Killian started doing the same. The boy ran his hand over each item he picked up and it took Charming a moment to remember that the Land Without Magic textiles had a different feel than the ones from the Enchanted Forest. "I'm sure these clothes aren't the same as what you're used to," Charming said apologetically.
"It's all right," the boy assured him as he folded a soft cotton PJ top. "They seem less scratchy than the clothes I have back there."
"I'm sure they are," Charming smiled. "You know, you're handling this all very well. I know from experience that it's not easy to wake up and find yourself in a different world."
Killian shrugged somewhat sheepishly. "You and Mary Margaret and Emma and Regina are all very kind. That helps."
Warmth filled Charming's heart. This young boy was so different from the Killian he knew. He was shy and withdrawn and quiet, as if afraid of making waves. Charming didn't know much about Killian's past but he did know he was abandoned quite young. From the way little Killian was asking for Liam and not a parent, Charming assumed he'd already been left in his brother's care but some internal instinct told him that, from the child's perspective, it hadn't been all that long.
If Charming and his family was helping to fill that hole in this little boy's life even just a tiny bit, this was all worth it.
Together they made quick work of the folding and putting away of the new clothes. The aroma of the freshly baked cookies had finally wafted up the stairs, making Charming's mouth water. "What do you say, bud?" he asked when the boy closed the dresser drawer for the last time. "Think you're ready to go back downstairs?"
"If what I'm smelling is the cookies we made, yes, please."
Charming chuckled, ruffled the boy's hair, and led him back downstairs to the kitchen.
Snow had set a small plate of cookies on the kitchen table, where Emma was already seated and nibbling on their handiwork. Killian looked up at Snow, silently asking permission to join her. When she nodded, the boy smiled a thank you, sat down across from Emma, and grabbed a cookie.
The second the warm cookie and melted chocolate hit his taste buds, a grin lit his face. "Chocolate chip cookies are delicious!" he exclaimed.
Charming, Snow, and Regina all shared a smile. "I'm glad you like it, Killian," Snow said.
"It's much better this way than it is as the uncooked dough."
Emma gave a teasingly offended gasp. "No way! Cookie dough is delicious, too. It's so good, they even put it in ice cream now."
The adults shared a chuckle. "That they do, Emma," Regina said, earning a small smile from the little girl. "And now if you'll excuse me, I have to get to work."
At once understanding that work was not the mayor's office but the vault in order to research their little predicament, Snow nodded. "Of course. Let me walk you to the door."
The children and Charming bid Regina goodbye, Killian adding his thanks for the clothes she'd brought them. After the women left the kitchen, Charming poured his little daughter and son-in-law each a tall glass of milk. He set the glasses down in front of the kids and pretended not to notice when Emma almost imperceptibly wrinkled her nose.
Adult Emma wasn't a fan of milk, either, preferring it almost exclusively in her cereal. Still, a glass of milk was the perfect accompaniment to freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, and Charming was determined to give his little girl the quintessential childhood snack.
Charming sat down at the table, observing the children while nibbling on a cookie himself. While he couldn't deny the deep longing in his heart to see his adult baby girl and her husband again, getting to see them like this was more than he could ever dreamed. Emma and Killian both had terribly lonely childhoods, resulting in deep pain that Charming couldn't even begin to figure out how to heal.
He remembered those early days with Emma, those days when he had to fight to get her to let him in. He fought not by pushing or by force but with simple patience. He had let Emma come to him in her own time, all the while gently reminding her that he was her father and he loved her and he would help her in any way she needed.
And Killian … he was a man who'd desperately needed a friend. Charming had had no real intention of being that friend but somehow it had happened without either of them realizing it. Charming's affection for the man had grown as he watched him love his daughter and now he couldn't imagine his life without him.
But seeing them now, as two small children who were alone in the world, Charming wanted nothing more than to protect them with all that he had.
Maybe this little disaster had a silver lining after all. Maybe this was their opportunity to do some healing on all sides. He and Snow could spend time with their little girl as a little girl and in so doing, they could give two lonely little children the love they desperately wanted and needed.
"What are we going to do when we finish our snack?" Emma asked, startling Charming out of his reverie.
What indeed? Considering that he and Snow hadn't anticipated having to entertain two ten-year-olds today, they didn't exactly have any activities planned. "I could take you on a tour of the farm," he said after a moment of thought. "You haven't met the animals yet!"
A suddenly interested Killian asked, "Animals?"
Emma just looked at him warily.
"We have six sheep and four chickens," Charming affirmed, "and a dog named Wilby."
The prospect of meeting a dog seemed to perk Emma up.
When Snow returned to the kitchen, Charming told her what they'd decided. "That sounds like a wonderful idea!" she exclaimed. "And while you're meeting the animals, I can clean up after our baking lesson."
A flush of pink colored Killian's cheeks; the result of his accidental flour volcano still littered the counter and the floor. Snow shot him a smile, telling him it was okay, and both he and Emma relaxed a bit in their chairs.
After the children had eaten their fill of cookies, they brought their plates and glasses to the sink. Once again, Killian observed Emma for a beat and took his cues from her. The poor boy was trying so hard to fit in and do everything correctly. Charming wished he'd let himself relax a bit but he also knew the relaxation would come in time.
Once outside, Charming introduced the children to the chickens first. "Here we have Penny, Dixie, Pixie, and Henny," he said, pointing each of them out in turn.
A bright smile lit Killian's face. "They rhyme!"
"Yes, they do," Charming smiled. Snow had named Henny and Penny as a teasing reference to the story of Chicken Little. When Emma had heard the rhyming names, she'd christened the other two hens Pixie and Dixie, who were not chickens at all but cartoon mice she remembered from her childhood.
"They're all girls?" Emma asked now.
"Yes. We always have fresh eggs. You and Killian can collect the eggs tomorrow morning, if you want."
Both children smiled at him, clearly indicating that they wanted. Charming smiled back and filed that activity in his memory banks for the morning.
After the children had properly met the chickens, he walked them over to the sheep pen. "And here we have Daisy, Ash, Iris, Linden, Basil, and Holly. Three boys and three girls."
"They're all named after plants," Emma pointed out somewhat unnecessarily.
"Very good," Charming smiled. "They came to us with those names and we didn't want to change them since sheep will answer to their names."
Emma nodded in understanding. "May we pet them?" Killian asked.
"Sure thing. They're very gentle."
While the children reached through the split rail fencing of the pen to pet the sheep, Charming whistled for Wilby. The dog responded to his master's call and trotted over to the pen from the far end of the yard. The second Emma spotted him, her eyes lit up. "Is that Wilby?"
"Yes indeed," Charming replied.
Killian turned to watch as Emma held her hand out for Wilby to sniff. When the dog nuzzled his head against her hand, she knelt down on the grass to pet him. The dog leaned into the petting for a beat before resting his front paws on Emma's thighs and planting a big sloppy lick on her cheek. She giggled, a sweet sound that made Charming's heart soar.
"Can we take him to the yard to play?" Emma asked, still giggling between vigorous dog licks.
"Go for it," Charming laughed. Emma and Killian ran off into the yard as one, laughing in delight when Wilby playfully chased after them.
Those kids are going to tire that dog out before too long, Charming thought happily. He could stand there and watch them play forever but he knew he should formulate some kind of plan for when Wilby was done. The kids were sure to still have plenty of energy.
Charming racked his brain and continued to come up empty. Before he had the chance to get frustrated, though, he heard someone calling, "David!" He looked over his shoulder to find Henry crossing the yard.
Oh no, Charming thought as his gaze darted towards the children. Did Henry know yet? If he didn't, the poor boy was going to be in for a huge shock. After all, it wasn't every day one came home to find that one's mother and stepfather had turned into preteens.
Thinking quickly, Charming dashed over to his grandson. "Listen, Henry, before you get any further into the yard–"
"I already know, Grandpa," he said softly. Charming let out a breath of relief and realized belatedly that he should have known Henry already knew. He'd called him by his name to get his attention and had only called him Grandpa when he was sure Emma and Killian couldn't hear him. "Mom called me a little bit ago to ask where I'd put some old clothes and she told me why she needed them. Plus I saw Gramma before I came out here. I just wanted to see them."
Charming smiled at the giddiness swimming in his grandson's eyes and led him closer to the children. Henry inhaled sharply at the sight of his little mother and tiny stepfather making poor Wilby chase them around the yard. "Oh my God," he murmured, slapping a hand over his mouth to muffle a thrilled giggle. "They're so cute!"
"Don't let either of them hear you say that," Charming snickered. The boy spoke the truth, though. Little Emma and little Killian were adorable, especially now that, for the moment at least, they'd seemingly forgotten their ordeal and were simply having fun being kids.
It was Killian who spotted Henry first. He stopped in his tracks at the sight of a new face, causing Emma and Wilby to almost crash right into him. The children whispered to each other for a beat before heading over to Charming and Henry.
Now that he was seeing them up close, poor Henry couldn't seem to find his words. His jaw dropped open as his gaze darted from his mom to his stepdad and back again. "Emma, Killian, this is Henry," Charming said, filling the silence with introductions for the children's benefit. "He's the other boy who's staying with us."
"Hello," Killian said somewhat shyly.
"Hi," Emma said.
"It's nice to meet you," Henry said, finally finding his voice.
"We're playing in the yard with Wilby," Killian explained, not realizing that Henry had been watching them for a little while. "Do you want to play with us?"
Charming smiled as the expression on his grandson's face changed from one of shock to one of excited amusement. The boy was evidently thinking about all the fun he could have with his mother and stepfather now that they were younger than he was.
Henry glanced from an out of breath Emma to a clearly exhausted Wilby, who'd flopped down at Emma's feet, and smiled. "That sounds like fun but I think Wilby's tired."
Wilby whimpered as if in agreement.
All four of them chuckled. "I know what we can do instead, though," Henry continued. "Who wants to play video games?"
"What are video games?" a perplexed Killian asked.
"Do you have Super Mario Kart?" a suddenly excited Emma asked at the same time. "The last group home I was in had it and I could do Rainbow Road without falling off!"
Charming and Henry both grinned. Henry was going to relish introducing Killian to video games and racing Emma was clearly going to present a challenge. Video games were a go.
