Superman AB de Villiers ‘runs out of gas’, retires from international cricket
Cape Town: South Africa batsman AB de Villiers has announced his decision to retire from international cricket with immediate effect, stating, via a video message, that he had “run out of gas.” The 34-year-old batsman said ‘the time is right’ for him to hang up his boots, bringing a close to a stellar 14-year career. “I have decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect,” de Villiers said on Wednesday. “After 114 Test matches, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals, it is time for others to take over. I have had my turn, and to be honest, I am tired,” de Villiers said. De Villiers finishes his career with a staggering 20,014 international runs (8765 in Tests, 9577 in ODIs and 1672 in T20Is) and signs off with a batting average over 50 in both Tests (50.66) and ODIs (53.50). It was widely expected that de Villiers would play on for South Africa, at least in the limited-overs formats, until the 2019 World Cup in England, given his frequent proclamations of wanting to win a major title with the national team. His sabbatical from Test cricket between January 2016 and December 2017 due to a combination of fitness and personal concerns, was expected to have the knock-on effect of brightening his prospects of a swansong at the World Cup in England. He returned late 2017, as captain, in the four-day Test against Zimbabwe at the start of South Africa’s home season, pledging his allegiance to all three formats. However, the exhilarating wins over India and Australia in which de Villiers played a key role with 211 and 427 runs respectively, left him ‘drained out’. “This is a tough decision, I have thought long and hard about it and I’d like to retire while still playing decent cricket. After the fantastic series wins against India and Australia, now feels like the right time to step aside. “It would not be right for me to pick and choose where, when and in what format I play for the Proteas. For me, in the green and gold, it must be everything or nothing. I will always be grateful to the coaches and staff of Cricket South Africa for their support through all these years. The most important thank you goes out to all of my team mates throughout my career, I wouldn’t be half the player that I am without the support throughout the years. “It’s not about earning more somewhere else, it’s about running out of gas and feeling that it is the right time to move on. Everything comes to an end. To the cricket fans around South Africa and the World, thank you for your kindness and generosity, and today, for your understanding. “I have no plans to play overseas, in fact, I hope I can continue to be available for the Titans in domestic cricket. I will continue to be the biggest supporter of Faf du Plessis and the Proteas.”

AB de Viliers to captain South Africa in England T20Is
South Africa announced the T20 International squad that will play England for the 3 T20I games starting from June 21st. Regular captain, Faf du Plessis will miss out on the T20I series, as he is heading home to witness the birth of his first child, but will return before the start of the Test series in July. In his place, AB de Villiers will captain the Proteas, even after questions were raised over his captaincy after a horrendous Champions Trophy campaign.
South Africa have left out five first-team players from the T20I squad to play a mix of both youth and experience in the upcoming series. Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada and JP Duminy have been rested due to the excessive workload, while du Plessis headed home. All 5 players are tipped to be part of the Test series, and thus the rotation policy comes into play from the South African board.
Dwaine Pretorius is all set for getting his maiden cap at the T20 International level, while young Reeza Hendricks has also been included in the squad. 27-year-old Mangaliso Mosehle, who made his debut in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, has retained his place in the squad. JJ Smuts and Dane Paterson also made their international debuts in the Sri Lanka series, and have been retained in the squad.
9 members of the Champions Trophy squad will feature in the England T20 Internationals; AB de Villiers, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorious, Imran Tahir, Wayne Parnell, Morne Morkel and Farhaan Behardien; while the rest of the squad features players who were on the recent tour of South Africa A against England Lions, including Reeza Hendricks and Tabraiz Shamsi.

AB de Villiers scores record-breaking 9,000 runs in ODI
South African batsman and wicket keeper AB de Villiers has outreached former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly into becoming the world’s fastest cricketer to score 9,000 runs in One-day Internationals (ODIs). The player broke the world record during the third ODI against New Zealand in Wellington.
De Villiers is now the 18th player and 2nd South African player, behind Jacques Kallis, to reach 9,000 runs mark but with the highest average of 53.86, further boasting the best strike-rate of 99.94.
The SA skipper reached the record landmark with a pull shot, scoring a four from Lockie Ferguson. His highest ODI score is an unbeaten 162 against West Indies 2 years ago.
AB De Viliers, 33, caught and outran former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s record of 228 innings and 9,000 runs by getting to the milestone in just 205 innings – 23 innings less than Ganguly.
De Villiers began the tour to New Zealand with 87 runs below the record breaking score of 9,000 runs.

The book was originally slated for a November 2015 release by publishers Pan MacMillan, but they announced on Tuesday that the release will be pushed back to next year, reports Netwerk24.
Apparently De Villiers wants more time to ensure a proper, special book is released instead of a ‘rush job’.
The decision to push back the release date was a joint decision. According to the publishers, De Villiers is only planning for one book to be released about his career and therefore he wants it to be a book of substance which everyone will enjoy.
