phase 1: acceptance

me, deadpan, but also crying a bit : Yes .
phase 2: impostor syndrome
me: what if when we go to China i actually find out I can't speak Chinese after all, what then
senpai, deep sigh: you've been teaching Chinese for twelve years
phase 3: catholic guilt
me: i can't go to China because that would be a purely egotistic, selfish, entertaining enterprise with absolutely no other purpose than my personal enjoyment, and that is both illegal and a sin
