The Process Modeling and analytics class has been challenging, but rewarding. I have been exposed to the concepts of Business process modeling in a wide variety of forms. I have been forced to put all of my ideas into clear, concise graphical models for presentation. I have learned how to analyze a process, determine potential solutions, and present them in a manner that a wide variety of business users could not only understand but appreciate. Learning the differing types of models and how/why they are used was a big benefit for me. Normally, I’ve just used basic flow chart diagrams, but understanding how to create a TQM or when to use a queuing diagram was very interesting. I have been able to see how systems are related and how to put these complex and or complicated systems into a manner that is meaningful. It was significantly more difficult than I had originally thought. By having to think through an entire problem and develop a solution that addressed both the original business need but deliver solutions concerning finance, HR, Operations, presentation to a DSS, KPIs, and the metrics required for the model to be incorporated into a DW for analysis was challenging. The information I have gained from this class will take me far in my career. By being able to understand models presented to me and then also develop and present my own will be a large benefit. Understanding the complexities of any process from any level will enable me to have a greater capability to deploying solutions and almost as importantly, being able to present them to clients or C-level executives. Although extremely challenging and time-consuming, the lessons learned from PML will go very far for me and my technical understanding of BI processes and especially for the analytics most companies desire. I have found that I truly enjoy this part of the BI. I think, I will focus my efforts more on the analytics and process development.
