Book Blurb: A Haunted Girl is a horror story that explores the real-life terror that comes with the struggles of anxiety and depression.
The fate of all life on Earth depends on a girl who doesn’t know if she wants to live.
Cleo, a 16-year-old adopted Japanese-American whose anxiety and depression drives her to suicidal thoughts, is fresh out of the hospital and trying unsuccessfully to reintegrate back into her old life. What she doesn't know is that her real struggles are just beginning as she finds herself encountering an increasingly terrifying succession of ghosts. Is she losing her grip on reality...or is the explanation much, much worse.
Courtesy of writers Ethan Sacks (Old Man Hawkeye, Star Wars: Bounty Hunters) and his daughter, Naomi Sacks and artist Marco Lorenzana (Hulk), this gripping saga aims to be both a paranormal thriller and an inspiration to those who are battling their own, less literal, demons in real life.
Review:
A girl finds herself dealing with her anxiety and depression... and also the fact that she's begun to see nightmarish creatures and ghosts have begun talking to her too. Cleo just wants to be better after getting out of the hospital and try and reintegrate back into her regular life, which has been not going so great. Yet strange things keep happening around her and when a ghost tells her she is the only person who can stop the evil that is coming... Cleo's life is about to get a lot more complicated. The story deals with mental illness and the demons we fight, both in our minds and in real life. It's definitely a unique story and the artwork is interesting.

Book Review #5 of 2025--
A Haunted Girl by Ethan Sacks, Naomi Sacks, and Marco Lorenzana. Rating: 2.75 stars.
Read on January 10th.
I'm going to try to keep this review as short as possible because it's such a small comic. The premise is what got me to pick this one up: The fate of all life on Earth depends on a girl who doesn't know if she wants to live. This comic was supposed to interweave a fantastical story about a calling and mental health. But, instead, nothing is given the full time or attention it deserves. The mental health representation felt lacking (from my perspective as someone with both anxiety and depression and how those things affect me personally) and the fantastical world never got fully built up. I wish there had been a lot more world building on the fantastical side and I wish the mental health had been represented better. I also didn't enjoy the art style. The actual style in the comic was so different from what's on the cover. It made everyone look at least a decade older than they're supposed to be. The main character is in her early couple of years of high school but she looks almost 30. The father figure looks like he's in his mid-fifties.
I like the premise of this so much and it fell so flat for me. I liked the characters for the most part but they were lacking depth. This could easily have been a 3.5 star read just from adding more to the world building and characters. If it had lived up to its full potential, I think this could have been a 5 star read. Sadly, it didn't and we're left with a 2.75 star read.

thinking about how the memory tardis had one piece of rose in it, her missing poster, and how that is representative of rose's narrative, she's missing... there are pieces of all the other doctors, of yaz, of river, but rose's thing isn't the jacket donna found, isn't some sort of actual rose, but is literally just her missing poster, because even to the memory tardis, to the doctor, she is missing. where is she? have you seen rose tyler?
