it's already funny to me that so much "classic" christmas aesthetic is based on some strange victorian/edwardian/american gilded age christmas customs mashup, but it's extra funny that one of the two influential works that has led to this enduring nostalgia for an era that never existed like some sort of genteel medieval times (the other being Twas The Night Before Christmas) is a book that is crucially about the abhorrent conditions the working class of england are subjected to and only secondarily about christmas
