Once again rambling about Jay and his awesome power. One thing I've noticed about him, especially with his power, is that it seems to tax him a lot more than the others' does. Probably because of the power and intensity of lightning. I've seen so many posts about how Jay uses a very small voltage when he fights because he doesn't want to hurt people, but what seems to be supported by the canon is that it also hurts him. Every time he deals with pure lightning bolts (rather than just shocks), he seems to hurt himself in the process. This is proven in season 14 when he is literally sparking after recharging the ship.

And judging by his expressions, it's affecting him. It hurts and exhausts him.

And in season 6 and season 8 we see how dealing with direct bolts of lightning affects him. In season 6, he screams when it hits him.

And in season 8, he gets physically exhausted for a moment after redirecting.

At least from what I have seen, this is very different from the other ninja, who seem to be able to control their elements-for the most part-at different intensities without it affecting them. (Aside from Lloyd.)

Which just brings me to the point that I personally believe that Jay's power is the most powerful of the creation elements. He doesn't use it to its full potential (and KO enemies, like he could) because, while he can handle like 900 million volts (in season 6 he's struck by like 3 direct bolts of lightning, and survives), that doesn't mean he will be combat ready after that.

This might also be why Wu brought him into the team early (with Cole). He probably needed a lot more training on pain tolerance, keeping the mind and body calm, and probably lots of other endurance training. (Which is indirectly canon with how well he was able to handle Nadakhan's mental and physical torture vs the other ninja.) His power is so unpredictable, and so his training must have been very rough when he first got his powers, which is once again supported by the canon as both Nya and Lloyd talk about how he destroyed the South(?) Wing of the Monastery with an electrical fire while practicing his powers. Wu probably had to focus on his control a lot more than with the other ninja (probably like how he had to with Nya, if you think about it. Lightning and Water are both hard to control, so concentration would be key to learn for both of them, which is ironic with Jay's fanon ADHD).

Point is, Jay is super cool and so underrated sometimes. I really think it'd be cool if the show went more into how their powers affected them! Though speculation is also fun.

Anyways. Jay with the lightning chicken because they would be (are) besties.

Intel 13th/14th Gen CPU Owners

There is a manufacturing defect in some portion of these generation CPU's that will cause these CPU's to fail prematurely. Intel has stated this was a manufacturing issue that was fixed in 2023 and that there will be a microcode update that will address this issue. Interesting video on it here, but this will often show up as an "Out of video memory" error or, in unreal engine based games, "DecompressShader(): Could not decompress shader" error message. Intel is planning to release a microcode update in mid august to address this issue, so if you have these chips, please keep an eye open for that and update accordingly. Some motherboard manufacturers have released settings to handle this by, as I understand it, under volting the CPU on the bios level. MSI has their stop gap measure listed here, I did not look further but I believe other Mobo manufacturers have also released their own stop gap measures.

If you have one of these gen chips and are experiencing issues, I strongly suggest implementing these stop gap issues and applying the microcode update when it is released in August. Please share this for visibility to help others implement this stop gap measure before their CPU is irreversibly damaged. 💜

Edit: If you are unsure what generation of CPU you have, you can open file explorer, right click and go to properties, and your processor will be listed there. 13xxx and 14xxx chip generations are the possibly impacted generations, though they did state this mostly impacts the 700 and 900 line of chips. (13700, 13900, 14700, 14900 + whatever letters of that specific chip subtype.)

Ferrari 499P, 2023. Ferrari is returning to endurance racing after a 50 year absence and will compete in next year’s FIA World Endurance Championship in the Le Mans Hypercar class. Because they will compete in the LMH class Ferrari have developed their own chassis. The hybrid drivetrain use a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and a 900-volt battery driving an electric motor for a combined output of 680hp. The car will make its competition debut in the 1000 Miles of Sebring in March next year and will also race at Le Mans, the first time for a Ferrari since 1999. Ferrari's last factory entry was in 1973

Storia Di Musica #321 - Okkervil River, The Stage Names, 2007

Fino a 15 giorni fa non conoscevo questo gruppo, e la sua storia variegata e spassosa. Non conoscevo ovviamente nemmeno il loro modo di fare musica, che mi ha colpito davvero tanto. Will Sheff, voce e chitarra, Zach Thomas al basso e al mandolino e Seth Warren alla batteria sono tre amici sin dal tempo del liceo, e vivono nel New Hampshire. Si trasferiscono dopo il college ad Austin, in Texas, e mettono su una band: prendono nome dal titolo di un racconto di Tat'jana Nikitična Tolstaja (che discende da un ramo minore dei Tolstoj), contenuto nella raccolta Sotto Il Portico Dorato, che si intitola Sul Fiume Okkervil, che è un breve fiume che passa per San Pietroburgo: Okkervil River. Siamo a fine anni '90 del '900 e i nostri registrarono un album autoprodotto composto da sette canzoni intitolato Stars Too Small To Use. Iniziano a fare concerti, la band si allarga (Jonathan Meiburg alla fisarmonica e poi all'organo). Nel 2002 la famosa etichetta indipendente Jagjaguwar li mette sotto contratto: Seth Warren abbandona per seguire la carriera accademica a Berkely e viene sostituito da Mark Pedini alla batteria. Nello stesso anno pubblicano il loro primo LP, Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See. Un anno dopo si spostano a San Francisco, Warren ritorna in gruppo, e pubblicano Down The River Of Golden Dreams. La band ha continui cambi di formazione, ma raggiunge una certa forma quando Travis Nelsen sostituisce Pedini alla batteria e si aggiunge un altro chitarrista, Howard Draper. Con questa formazione, nel 2005, pubblicano il loro lavoro più riuscito, che li fa conoscere in maniera decisiva anche oltre la scena indipendente: Black Sheep Boy è osannato dalla critica e vende benissimo per un disco indipendente, tanto che la band lo pubblica nel 2006 anche in Europa e ne fa uscire un mini EP in accompagnato, Black Sheep Boy Appendix. Zach Thomas esce dal gruppo e viene sostituito da Pat Pestorius. Il suono è un folk rock ricco, delicato, gioioso ma sono le idee dei testi di Sheff che stupiscono, in una sorta di costruzione di musica cabaret dove il racconto, a volte stucchevole, di ciò che succede intorno a lui è il fulcro della musica degli Okkervil River. E prova maestra è il disco di oggi, uscito nell'Agosto del 2007 e quasi da subito un classico della musica indipendente.

The Stages Names è, come suggerisce il titolo, una riflessione ironica e senza peli sulla lingua sull'essere un'artista e sulle storie che l'esserlo nasconde. Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe prende in giro il già allora evidente e potente ingigantimento di qualsiasi cosa succeda nella vita di chiunque, o per meglio dire, la voglia di rendere le cose della vita molto più drammatiche o epiche di quello che sono (It's just a life story, so there's no climax\No more new territory, so pull away the IMAX). Unless It's Kicks è una analisi sul rapporto artista fan, A Hand To Take Hold Of The Scene è la prima genialata, infatti è una canzone che racconta della trama di due programmi TV, Cold Case (famoso anche in italiana, sulla squadra dell'FBI chiamata a risolvere i casi irrisolti di anni precedenti) e Breaking Bonaduce (una sorta di documentario su Danny Bonaduce, famoso attore bambino degli anni'70, che raccontava dei suoi problemi familiari da adulto) in cui furono usate canzoni della band (in Cold Case Black Sheep Boy). Savannah Smiles è la storia di Shannon Wilsey, famosa pornostar americana, che prese il suo nome d'arte da un film, Savannah Smiles del 1982: la sua è una storia tragica, poichè dopo un incidente stradale dove rimase sfregiata, decise di suicidarsi per non essere vista "brutta". Plus Ones è un piccolo capolavoro: l'espressione indica nelle liste dei concerti le aggiunte che gli ospiti dei backstage hanno per le entrate, ed è un testo quasi non sense che aggiunge uno o più unità a famosi titoli di canzoni: ? and the Mysterian che scrissero 96 Tears diventano 97, le 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover di Paul Simon diventano 51 e così via, citando anche i The Byrds di Eight Miles High, i R.E.M. di 7 Chinese Bros., David Bowie in TVC15 ed altri. You Can't Hold The Hand Of A Rock And Roll Man cita nel titolo un testo di una canzone di Joni Mitchell, Blonde In The Bleachers, e cita nel testo un quadro di Marchel Duchamp, La Sposa Messa A Nudo Dai Suoi Scapoli, Anche. John Allyn Smith Sails è dedicata alla vita e al suicidio del poeta confessionale John Berryman (originariamente John Allyn Smith). La canzone si conclude rielaborando la tradizionale canzone popolare Sloop John B (resa famosa dai Beach Boys), paragonando la morte a un viaggio di ritorno a casa. Non posso non citare anche Title Track (che cita Hollywood Babylonia di Kenneth Anger) e la toccante A Girl In Port, canzoni misteriosa e dolente. Le canzoni hanno una gioiosa musicalità e il disco va persino in classifica su Billboard. Will Sheff si mostra un cantautore davvero poliedrico e la band gira a mille, usando spesso solo strumenti acustici (tranne in Title Track e poche altre occasioni). Un piccolo gioiello scoperto in questo mese di Aprile, che con la seconda copertina capite benissimo a cosa è dedicato (almeno spero....)

Ugye volt ez a népszámlálás, amelyik kihozta, hogy 900 ezerrel kevesebb a katolikus mint 10 éve. S akkor elkezdtek azzal mentegetőzni, hogy a nemzetközi tendenciák, stb.

Nem ugyanaz volt a kérdés a két alkalomkor. Almát hasonlítanak körtével. A "milyen valláshoz tartozik" és "milyen vallási közösséghez tartozónak érzi magát" két külön kategória.

Szóval közel 5 szigma bizonyossággal kinyilatkoztatom, hogy ez úgy zajlott, hogy látták a nemzetközi trendeket és azokkal szemben nagyon de nagyon ki akarták mutatni, hogy Magyarország keresztény ország. Ezért fókuszcsoportban mérték a lehetséges kérdéseket, s ez jött ki nyertesnek, erre válaszoltak legtöbben pozitívan. Megspékelve egy aktív kormányzati propagandával, biztosra vették, hogy itt annyi lesz a keresztény, mint strandon a homok!

Viszont elnézték a körülményt. A Kérdést nem önmagàban, mint egyetlen kérdés baszták a polgár orra elé, mely esetben valszeg azt válaszolta volna, amit a fókuszcsoport, hogy naná, keresztény ország keresztény gyermeke, hanem több tucat másik kérdés mellett, amik az élet számos aspektusában turkáltak, lakás fala anyagától betegsègeken keresztül keresetig, stb. Ebben a kontextusban viszont ez a kérdés már túl tolakodónak hatott, ezért sokan, akik egyébként pozitívan válaszoltak volna, nem válaszoltak, vagy csúsztattak, vagy csak egyszerűen dacoltak.

Ki is jött az eredmény, pont az ellentéte a vártnak, amire zsigerből csak azt tudták felmondani, ami a legelső helyzetmegállapításuk volt, hogy "nemzetközi tendencia". Viszont ezzel lerántották a leplet saját magukról, hogy hogyan akarták a statisztikát manipulálni.

Ho scelto questo libro dalla biblioteca mai letta da nessuno di mio padre, che nella sua vita forse una cosa buona ha fatto: prendere e collezionare i migliori romani del 900 pubblicati da Mondadori in collaborazione con la DeAgostini. Mi sono resa conto della sua esistenza al liceo e da quel momento sono stata l'unica che si è resa conto di che gioiello avessimo in casa.

Tutto questo preambolo inutile per dire che, senza nessun senso, guardando dalla teca mi è venuta voglia di leggere Pavese, di cui conosco pochissimo, fama a parte (mannaggia le lacune del liceo). Chissà se a volte sei tu a scegliere il libro o il libro sceglie te. Il protagonista qui è andato in America per poi tornare a casa. Ha scritto un sacco di cose che solo chi è stato dove gli altri non sono stati possono scrivere. Alla vigilia della mia (ri)partenza, mi ha segnata.

Da anni ho questa abitudine di scrivere quando ho letto i libri che leggo, perché alle medie ci avevano regalato un piccolo libricino di poche pagine dove segnare tutti i libri letti con le date. Da lì presi l'abitudine di scrivere direttamente sul libro. Spesso, però, la data diventa un semplice numero e non ricordo sempre chi ero in quel frangente. Non ho letto moltissimi libri quindi in genere mi ricordo, ma fu quando lessi Sole e Acciaio di Mishima a Tokyo che aggiunsi anche dove mi trovavo, ovvero nella sua città.

Quindi anche questa volta ho voluto aggiungere il dettaglio di scrivere che è vero che sono a casa, ma sto partendo, me ne sto andando. Così, se mai riuscirò ad arrivare alla vecchiaia, riaprendo questo libro mi ricorderò di chi ero, che fase della mia vita stavo vivendo.

Proprio oggi pensavo che quello che non mi sto portando ma che porterei con me più di qualunque cosa sono i miei libri, i miei manga. Che strazio saperli in un posto diverso dal mio. Ho sempre pensato che il giorno in cui sarà tutto riunito in un unico posto, quella per me avrà il nome di casa.

25. Squid- O Monolith

A Squidet hívják poszt-punknak, art-punknak meg még tuti egy csomó minden másnak. 2021-ben volt egy elég jó lemezük, amit bírtam eléggé, meg úgy általában a kritikák is. Viszonyítási pont lehet náluk a Black Country New Road meg a Black Midi, de nekem főleg a Talking Heads, ami eszembe jut. De tényleg, így amikor hallgatom, akár ezt a lemezt, akár az előzőt, mindig életem második munkahelye jut eszembe, a hévízi Napsugár Hotel (az első a keszthelyi tejüzem volt havi 3 900 Ft-ért). Mindjárt mondom, hogy jön össze a Napsugár meg a Talking Heads, és a Squid. 1991 nyarán dolgoztam a Napsugár hotelben londinerként. Ez egy olyan szálloda volt, ami két épületből állt. Volt egy limitáltan menő épület recepcióval, ahol szolgálatot teljesítettem, és ahová az osztrák, svájci meg német nyuggerek jöttek, és volt az egyáltalán nem menő szövetkezeti épület, ahová a magyarok jöttek. A magyarok nem nagyon jattoltak, szóval nem is nagyon segítettem nekik, meg nem is jártam át oda, csak ha nagyon muszáj volt. A szálloda igazgatója Keszthely későbbi szoci polgármestere volt, aki akkoriban munkaidőben német szinkronos kung-fu filmeket nézett az irodájában. Fun fact: a 2022-es választásokra a semmiből visszatért függetlenként, és elindult harmadik erőként! Szerintem ebbe kár volt pénzt ölnie a Fidesznek, mert így mittudomán 68%-kal nyertek, a mutatvány nélkül meg győztek volna 66-tal. Keszthely egy elképesztően szomorú, vérfideszes város. A 2002-es kampányban az egyik amúgy ilyen halál szerény gimis tanárnő leköpte a sétáló utcán kampányoló Szili Katalint. Mondjuk ez így utólag elég vicces. Na de vissza a Squidhez. A Napsugárban egy fiatalabb kollégám volt a recepciósok között, a többi mind vén fasz, a szüleim ismerősei, volt osztálytársai stb. Ez persze vicces, mert most csináltam egy gyors matekot, és arra jutottam, hogy kb 40 évesek lehettek, én meg most vagyok 47. Na mindegy, a fiatal kollégával szerettem a legjobban együtt dolgozni, egy alter prototípus volt, és állítása szerint Magyarország legnagyobb David Byrne és Talking Heads rajongója (egy korábbi posztban szerintem említettem ezt az arcot), így munkaidőben kurva sok ’Headset hallgattunk, és 15 évesen én meglehetősen IDEGBAJOS zenének gondoltam. Nem utáltam, csak sokszor zavart, hogy van egy ilyen jó téma, és akkor hirtelen bejön valami kakofonikus, disszonáns rész, amit akkor úgy éltem meg, hogy ELBASSZA a számot. Na, és a Squiddel kapcsolatban is hasonló élményeim vannak, csak ma már nyilván nem azt gondolom, hogy na ez a szám el van baszva úgy ahogy van, amikor átvált egy nehezen dudolható részbe. Ennyi a nagy összefüggés!

Már az első lemeznek is témája volt az elidegenedés és az embertelenedés, itt az újon ez hatványozottan igaz. Lehet, hogy ez egy ilyen önbeteljesítő lemez, de én a legjobban akkor szerettem hallgatni, amikor esténként magányosan a Füredi úti lakótelepen sétáltam amíg a gyerek karatén volt, és akkor tényleg mindent elidegenedettnek és embertelennek láttam. Szerintem ez a lemez egy verőfényes normafás sétánál is ezt hozná ki belőlem. Mondják, hogy változott a zenekar hangzása az első lemez óta, de nekem kb ugyanaz a hangulat, csak a számok lettek kicsit hosszabbak és összetettebbek, meg a színvonal lett egységesebb. Igazából az összes szám tök oké, valamelyik azért okébb a többinél, egyedül a harmadik szám, a Siphon Song, ami szerintem túl vontatott, meg is töri kicsit a lemez lendületét. Sokkal jobban működne lemezzáró dalként, de arra meg van egy sokkal jobb, az egyik kedvencem, a meglehetősen hosszú és hülye című If You Had Seen The Bull’s Swimming Attempts You Would Have Stayed Away. Aki szereti a Talking Headset meg ezt az új poszt-punk vonalat, annak nyugodt szívvel ajánlom ezt a lemezt, meg úgy általában mindenkinek, aki, mint én, imád sötétben, ködben panelek között mászkálni.

The Ferrari 499p will be an all-wheel-drive hybrid. A single 268-hp electric motor/generator powers the front axle (the power level defined by the regulations). The rear wheels receive power from a 670-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine. That output represents the maximum allowable in the class. A 900-volt battery mounts just beneath the 499P’s fuel tank. The 3.0-liter V-6 is similar in configuration to the engine that powers the company’s new 296 road car, sharing its unusual 120-degree bank angle and its “hot V” arrangement with the turbos mounted in the engine’s valley. Chosen for its compactness, lightness, and low center of gravity, the V-6 also creates a nice marketing tie between the company’s road car and racing efforts. But [GT Track Development Chief Ferdinando] Cannizzo cautions that the 499P’s engine, which is a stressed part of the car’s structure, is an entirely new unit. The car’s numeric name is derived from the engine’s individual cylinder capacity, a traditional naming scheme Ferrari has periodically used. A pushrod-activated, double-wishbone suspension bolts to the carbon fiber structure. A brake-by-wire arrangement aids battery-replenishing energy recovery. The transmission is a 7-speed unit from Xtrac. “This is our car,” says Cannizzo, “So we can optimize everything we want.”

Az elvileg magát újságírónak nevező riporternek a "bejáráson" csak annyit kellett volna mondani, hogy "ide meg ide is benézünk államtitkár úr", persze semmi ilyet nem mondott, így egy épületbe mentek be forgatni, a felújított traumatológiára ahol minden gyönyörű patika volt, mivel csak szeptemberben fogják átadni. Ekkora patyomkin-bejárást, az arcom szakadt le .... Az államtitkár úr még lenyomott egy ilyen monológot, természetesen kérdést nem kapott a riportertől ... "Nekem az a benyomásom, hogy Magyar Péter ilyen RRF (Recovery and Resilience Facility - Helyreállítási és Rezilienciaépítési Eszköz) Canossa-járáson van. A helyreállítási alapban 900 milliárd helyreállítási pénzt ütemezett elő a kormány egészségügyi fejlesztésekre és pont a legrosszabb állapotban lévő kórházak szerepeltek ezen a listán. Ezt a 900 milliárdni összeget véleményünk szerint teljesen megalapozatlanul, politikai okokból tartja vissza Brüsszel a magyar emberektől. Itt ha megyünk majd föl, majd meg tetszik látni, itt van két bontásra ítélt épület, ahova az új kórházi szárnyat húztuk volna, ez is az RRF része lett volna. Péterfy felújítása szintén. A Váci szakrendelő konkrétan harmadik a szakrendelők listáján, amit föl akartunk újítani. Én azt hiszem, hogy a Magyar úr bocsánatot kérni ment mert az újdonsült barátai a Manfred Weber és a Ursula von der Leyen asszony ezeket a forrásokat visszatartja a betegektől."

Converting a battery backup to Lithium because I hate myself

I've got a whole bunch of battery backups in my home, one on each computer, and a big one in my server rack in the basement. I've also got a few out "in the wild" at some of my family's places. They're great, where I live in the northeast US, the power grid is stable enough that most outages are only minutes long, and these backups (technically called a UPS - Uninterrupted Power Supply) do a great job keeping computers running through them.

My issue is the batteries. They all run on lead acid batteries, aka the same kind that's in your car, and they dont last long in this kind of environment, I'm lucky if I get 3 years out of one. On top of that, their battery life detection is terrible, It's about a 50/50 shot whether I get a warning about a dead battery pack before the next power outage takes it down without warning. Keeping track of that with just one or two is annoying, let alone 10 of them!

Lithium UPS's exist, and theoretically last many years longer, but they are many times more expensive than a normal backup. I'd like to not spend new-car money replacing a dozen UPS units, so I did some math instead.

I have a husk of a ups (no battery), and I tested it out: the open circuit voltage on the battery cable is 27.6 volts, which just happens to be almost the exact voltage needed to float charge a series of 8 Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePo4) batteries!

Why is that exciting? Usually when you think of lithium batteries, you think of lithium-ion (also can be called lithium-polymer) batteries. These are the batteries in your laptop and phone... And also Tesla cars. They hold more energy than a LiFePo4 battery, but are very sensitive to temperature, over and under-voltage, over-charging, and over-current conditions. Abuse them too hard, and they swell up and pop! That's why Teslas seem to catch fire more often than other cars: most other companies gave up range for a battery chemistry that isn't a ticking time bomb, like LiFePo4.

These LiFePo4 batteries can take a beating compared to Li-ion ones. Most importantly, they can be "float" charged, that is, left on the charger 24/7, without worrying about overcharging it and blowing caustic smoke everywhere. This is critical, because I'm attempting a direct drop-in swap for the old lead battery in this UPS, because float charging a lead battery is basically a requirement, and doing that to a Li-ion battery is asking for a fire!

Using a Li-ion pack would require a custom charging circuit, as the UPS's 27.6V is not correct for any configuration of Li-ion, and would either under charge the pack, losing me 50% of my capacity, or overcharge it, and make it explode. It would also have to stop the batteries from being float charged, again to keep the battery from exploding, while fooling the UPS into thinking a battery is still attached so it doesn't beep at me all the time, and my head is spinning just thinking about how that would work. Much easier to give up capacity for a simpler, and more robust battery.

This UPS can deliver 900 watts of power on battery, that equates to roughly 30 amps of current from the 27.6V battery pack. Adding a safety factor, I bought a BMS (Battery Management System) rated to 50 amps. A BMS is essential, as it offers extra protection against short circuits, over and under-charging and temperature cutoff. Also cell balancing, which keeps all the cells at the same level of charge during use (if they go out of sync-that's bad, is all I'll say for now). The batteries are rated for 120 amps continuous draw, so I am well under the limit where the cells would self-immolate.

With all that said, here's the guts:

Looking close, you might see that I had to cut some plastic out to make it all fit. That's an error on my part-I didn't measure right. If I make more, I'll definately be using a smaller cell, so it will be a proper "drop in" mod. Lots of drilling, cutting, and filing to make this all fit!

It took several hours to link up the cells, terminate the balancing wires (the small red spindly ones), and and stuff them in the battery box. That's a LOT longer than I was hoping it would take, but the on-the fly mods took a lot of time. but eventually, it all fit in, and I was able to test it:

It works! I unplugged it from the wall, and it stayed on! For now, I am in full helicopter parent mode, since I don't want to deal with a lithium fire, even though my math checks out and the UPS should never get the the point that these cells are ever "abused". I only leave it on when I'm in the room, and when I leave, I unplug from the wall, and remove the red lead from the battery, so no charge enters or leaves while I'm not there to watch it.

In theory, the only issue with this retrofit will be a useless runtime meter. The "minutes of runtime" meter is measuring the voltage of the battery as it discharges to estimate how much longer it will last, and the voltage drop over time is different for lithium and lead, so the meter won't be measuring accurately. Once I'm confident it won't explode randomly, I will likely install it permanently somewhere in one of my compters.

Inversamente

L'altro giorno @hope-now-and-live aveva chiesto, in maniera ironica ma molto interessante, quante volte ci si è chiesti perchè Orfeo si gira a guardare se Euridice lo segua, nella sua catabasi (nel mondo greco, la discesa dell'anima nell'oltretomba), perdendo definitivamente la sua amata, ritenendolo per questo uno stolto. Il Mito è famosissimo, ed è uno dei più potenti racconti sulla proibizione simbolica.

Nel chiacchierare con lei, mi è venuto in mente che Robert Browning, poeta, scrittore e drammaturgo britannico dell'età vittoriana, si ispirò a questo quadro di Frederic Leighton, Orfeo e Euridice (1864)

dove è chiaro come sia Euridice che cerca "di farsi guardare" da Orfeo, che tiene disperatamente gli occhi chiusi, per scrivere questi versi:

Sì, dammi la bocca, gli occhi, la fronte, e insieme mi prendano ancora – un solo sguardo ora mi avvolgerà per sempre per non uscire mai dalla sua luce, anche se fuori è tenebra. Tienimi sicura, avvinta al tuo sguardo eterno. Le pene d’un tempo, dimenticate, e il terrore futuro, sfidato – non è mio il passato né il futuro – guardami! Robert Browning, Eurydice to Orpheus, da Dramatis Personæ , 1864

Per chi non lo ricorda, il Mito è diverso: Orfeo s’innamora, ricambiato, della ninfa Euridice, e la sposa. Come racconta Virgilio nelle Georgiche, di Euridice s’invaghisce anche il pastore Aristeo, che l’insegue per farla sua e, mentre scappa, Euridice è morsa fatalmente da un serpente. Nelle Metamorfosi Ovidio sceglie di eliminare dalla scena Aristeo: Euridice è spensierata, in compagnia di una schiera di ninfe, quando viene morsa al tallone dal rettile. Appena Orfeo apprende la notizia, piange la sposa e con coraggio decide di recarsi negli inferi per riaverla. Scende fino allo Stige, vince ogni ostacolo grazie alla lira e si presenta a Persefone e a Ade, i signori dell’oltretomba. Canta il suo amore per Euridice e chiede che gli venga data la possibilità di continuare a vivere con lei. Tale è la forza del suo amore e del suo canto che Persefone, Ade, il cane Cerbero e perfino le implacabili Furie si commuovono. Gli viene quindi accordato di portare con sé Euridice, ma a un patto: lui andrà avanti, lei lo seguirà, e Orfeo non potrà mai girarsi indietro, perché altrimenti Euridice tornerà per sempre tra le ombre dei defunti. Nella risalita, infatti, mentre i due amanti sono quasi arrivati alla luce, Orfeo non resiste alla tentazione e si volta per controllare che la sua amata sia veramente con lui. Nel tempo di un attimo Euridice scompare per sempre nell’abisso. Distrutto e impietrito, Orfeo non trova più pace e vaga per la terra, sublimando nel canto un passato che non può più tornare. Continua a emozionare, sì, ma rifiuta la vita e l’amore delle altre donne; per questo le Menadi – o Baccanti – si vendicano di lui, che pure era legato a Dioniso, e lo fanno a pezzi gettandone i resti nel fiume Ebro. Tutti lo piangono, uccelli, alberi, sassi, ma Orfeo potrà tornare a riabbracciare la sua Euridice.

Molti nel '900 riprenderanno il Mito, soprattutto dal punto di vista di Euridice. Il magnifico Orfeo, Euridice, Hermes di Rainer Maria Rilke, aggiunge la figura del dio dal piede alato che è messaggero delle anime (Psicopompo, uno dei suoi più famosi attributi), con Euridice che non riconosce più Orfeo:

E quando a un tratto il dio la trattenne e con voce di dolore pronunciò le parole: si è voltato –, lei non comprese e disse piano: Chi?

Ma avanti, scuro sulla chiara porta, stava qualcuno il cui viso non era da distinguere. Immobile guardava come sull’orma di un sentiero erboso il dio delle ambasciate mestamente si volgesse in silenzio per seguire lei che tornava sulla stessa via, turbato il passo dalle bende funebri, malcerta, mite nella sua pazienza.

Giganti si sono cimentati con questa storia (tra gli altri, Campana, Pavese, Yourcenar, Magris, Calvino) ma cito Gesualdo Bufalino, che in un racconto beffardo, Il ritorno di Euridice (1986), fa dire alla Ninfa:

L’aria non li aveva ancora divisi che già la sua voce baldamente intonava “Che farò senza Euridice?”, e non sembrava che improvvisasse, ma che a lungo avesse studiato davanti a uno specchio quei vocalizzi e filature, tutto già bell’e pronto, da esibire al pubblico, ai battimani, ai riflettori della ribalta.

In pratica, l'aveva fatto apposta!
