360th Anniversary of Bohun's Death

17.02.1664 Ivan Bohun was executed in the Polish military camp

Ivan Bohun (Іван Богун) was a real person, an authentic Ukrainian Cossack hero from the mid-17th century and one of the most important Cossack commanders during the uprising of Bohdan Chmielnicki (Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Богдан Хмельницький), which started in 1648 ('Ukrainian Independence War').

As such, he has many diverse appearances in the Ukrainian culture and in the Polish culture (in literature, folklore, visual arts, music, opera, theater, cinema, etc.). Perhaps, the most famous worldwide (or just Tumblr-wide) of them all is the novel "With Fire and Sword" ("Ogniem i mieczem") by the Polish writer, Henryk Sienkiewicz, from 1883/1884. H. Sienkiewicz changed Bohun's name to Jurko, but described some of his authentic deeds, i.a. the role, he played during the battle of Beresteczko, 1651. The novel itself, as a part of the well-known "Trylogia" (which occupies an important place in the Polish culture), has many adaptations in art, theater, radio and cinema. The most famous of them is the Polish film from 1999, directed by Jerzy Hoffman. So...

Bohun's appearance in that film is not everything, in fact, it is only the tip of the iceberg of Bohun's myth. There is much more to explore and admire.

I worked on this since April (bc I couldn't work on this at all during this semester) and a few weeks ago I finally finished him and he turned out so cool, I'm so in love 😍

So, this is an acrylic painting on a 80x60 cm canvas. It hangs over my bed now, which is why I painted Blue instead of Korse bc the guy can change all he wants, he is not going over my bed looking that cool and epic!!

I am so insanely happy with how this turned out bc I fucked up so many things along the way... and oh my god, the fucking pipes!!! Every damn time I paint Destroya it's the pipes or tubes ir whatever that break me and make me never wanna paint or draw or otherwise artistically express my undying love for Destroya ever again. And then it takes a year at best until I'm at it again XD (Not me already making plans for my next painting)

Fun fact, that totally blew my mind: you can mix blue with purple and green??? Which is how I did most of the blue and teal shades in this, once I figured that out, and it looks so much better than mixing the blue with blue, black and white (idk if that works with every shade of green and purple tho, I can only say with certainty that it did with two very specific ones that I use)

I added writing along the edges of the canvas which I cannot get good photos of, so there's just the one to show what it looks like.

On top of the canvas it reads "Check check where are you Destroya check check"

On the bottom "Destroya Destroya we're all waiting for you Destroya Destroya"

On the right "So show me what you got, you children of the gun, don't hide and we don't run, against the sun we're the enemy"

On the left "You don't believe in god, I don't believe in luck, they don't believe in us, but I believe we're the enemy"

All in capital letters and without commas and apostrophes bc I didn't like how that looked. Also, I meassured out the space I had for each and every letter, so now I have a bunch of tiny lines all along the edge of the canvas on the backside XD

Angelika Analóg: Self confidence, obsession, cleanliness

This piece is one my meanest works. Pure, clean, bright at the first glance. And then slowly the mess and disorder shows itself. And then the mind starts to want to correct the things. But the obsession to put the things in order is a demon of the soul. The need for symmetry, the tension that the chaos shows is a sign of having perfectionist issues. And perfectionism is rooted in fear. Facing one's cause to struggle this obsession is a key step toward freedom.
