Alright, kids, my unhinged data gathering about EVs has culminated in a google sheet that is now, to the best of my knowledge, complete. I have looked at every active car manufacturer in the US, their EVs (if they have any), their plug-in hybrids (if they have any) (also, referred to as PHEVs), their base price, their max price (meaning, I went in to their build function and added all the shit to it I possibly could), their minimum range, maximum available range, and the type of vehicle. For PHEVs, this included electric-only range, total range, and MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent).
You can visit the Google sheet where this information lives here. Edit from June of 2024: the Google sheet is currently unavailable, sorry!
First of all: Why the hell did I do this?
Great question. I got passed on the road about a month ago by a pack of Lucid Air test drive vehicles. It was a rare instance of me not recognizing a vehicle--I literally work with them every day to make a living, and I consider myself to be pretty acquainted with the available auto manufacturers in the US. So, I looked them up, and it's a new EV brand, which might be a good thing vis a vis bringing more players to the market and all that jazz... but their base MSRP is fucking $87,000. I got so mad about the fact that manufacturers just keep bringing luxury EVs to the market and not like, consumer-level, reasonably priced EVs that I decided to compile this list of information to... well. To be fair I don't know what I was hoping to accomplish with this. At most, prove a point, I guess?
With that out of the way... what did we learn from this?
No more electric SUV options. Society has progressed past the need for more electric SUV options.
I compiled information on a grand total of 40 current EV models, 43 future EV models, 35 current PHEV models, and uh... 2 future PHEV models. Of those, 34 current EVs, 26 future EVs, 23 current PHEVs, and 1 of the future PHEVs were SUVs. That's 70%. Meanwhile, we have (in all four categories) 1 lone cargo van/work vehicle, 10 coupes, 8 pickup trucks, 1 hatchback, 1 minivan, 29 sedans, 3 wagons, and 1 microbus (VW ID. Buzz my beloved). And listen, don't get me wrong: SUVs are great. They're versatile (the U in SUV is for 'utility' after all!) and they're filling the niche that minivans once did, but damn, 70% of the market? Come ON guys. We're more interesting than that, I hope.
Are you not rich? Want an EV? Too bad.
The average base MSRP for an EV in the US right now is $65,556. Are you kidding me? The average base MSRP for the future EVs I found information on is $86,377. The PHEVs include some performance/ultra-luxury brands because of the fact electric motors provide a lot of torque and are desirable in some performance vehicles, so even taking those out, the average base MSRP of a PHEV is $63,442.
The superlatives
Current EVs
First, the good superlatives:
Lowest base MSRP & max price both go to the Chevy Bolt EV, ranging from $26,500 to $34,000. (sedan, range around 259 miles)
Highest range (unfortunately) goes to the Lucid Air, the vehicle that started me on this whole thing. The minimum range is 410 miles, which is the highest minimum range available. The maximum range is 516 miles, blowing the Tesla Model S extended range out of the water by 111 miles. (sedan, price ranges from $87,400 to $249,000).
Now, the bad superlatives
Highest base MSRP goes to the Audi RS e-tron GT, at a whopping $143,900. This beats our highest maximum price model's base MSRP by $2,700. (sedan, range around 232)
Highest maximum price goes to the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo at $304,000. Fun fact: $30,000 of that maximum price is for custom paint. (wagon, range from 222-235 miles)
Lowest range goes to the Mazda MX-30 with a measly 100 miles of range. The next lowest range, the Ford E-Transit, a cargo van, gets 108! This vehicle is currently only available in California. (SUV, price ranges from $34,110 to $43,000)
Current PHEVs
Good superlatives
Highest electric only range goes to Land Rover, both the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport, with 51 miles. (SUV, MPGe for both is 42, total range for both is 480, price for the Range Rover Sport ranges from $118,200 to $159,000, and price for the Range Rover Sport ranges from $142,575 tp $170,000).
Highest total range, best MPGe, AND lowest base MSRP goes to the Toyota Prius Prime, with 640 miles of total range and a whopping 133 MPGe. Its base MSRP is $32,350. (sedan, electric only range is 44 miles, maximum price is $50,000)
Lowest maximum price goes to the Kia Niro, which will only let you spend $44,000 on it. (SUV, base MSRP $33,840, electric only range 33 miles, total range 560, MPGe 108)
Bad superlatives (a lot of ties for this one, folks)
Worst total range: a tie between the BMW XM and the MINI Countryman, both at 300 miles. (BMW XM: SUV, 30 miles electric only range, 46 MPGe, costs between $159,00 and $186,000. MINI Countryman: Sedan, 17 miles electric only range, 73 MPGe, costs around $41,000)
Worst electric only range is a tie between the Ferrari 296 and Ferrari SF90, both at 15 miles. I have thoughts (derogatory) about these models, but I'll save them. (both coupes; both 330 miles total range; 296 gets 47 MPGe, SF90 gets 51 MPGe. Base MSRP for the 296 is $237,500. I'll get to the SF90 in a moment,)
Worst MPGe goes to the McLaren Artura at 39 MPGe. (Coupe, 330 total range, 19 miles electric only range, base MSRP $237,500)
The highest listed maximum price goes to the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid, at $295,815. (Sedan, 19 miles electric-only range, 480 miles total range, 52 MPGe, base MSRP is $109,000.)
The highest base MSRP goes, once again, to the Ferrari SF90 at $524,815. Just reading that number hurts me.
Finally, a five-way tie for the most likely to have the highest actual maximum price, because they're cowards and don't put their pricing on their websites. These are the Ferrari SF90, the Ferrari 296, the Bentley Flying Spur, the Bentley Bentayga, and the McLaren Artura. (Bentley Flying Spur: Sedan, 26 miles electric-only range, 500 miles total range, 46 MPGe, base MSRP $217,525. Bentayga: SUV, 29 miles electric only range, 448 total range, 45 MPGe, base MSRP $200,025).
I'm not going to do any superlatives for future vehicles because I don't want to jump the gun on any judgements. Plus, with some of them the MSRPs are just like... educated guesses. Anyway, I have the whole google sheet here if you wanna poke around.
What conclusions can we draw from this?
I appreciate that the US wants to regulate new car sales sooner rather than later to encourage new EV sales in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly. However, until the average price for a new EV comes down significantly, more and more people are going to be in the used car market whether they want to be or not. Beyond that, we simply do not have the infrastructure for this. There are gas stations on damn near every corner, but the closest charging station to me is 2 miles away, and even that's a Tesla Supercharger, so it's only useful if you have a Tesla. The closest non-Tesla charger is 4 miles away. Sure, you can plug it in at home, but in order for that to be done at more than a snail's pace, you need to have it specially installed which is an additional cost that people may not be able to afford.
Additionally, it's interesting to me that being environmentally friendly is still such a huge privilege that's seemingly marketed towards wealthy people, yet huge corporations and the ultrawealthy people actually polluting our planet continue to offload the blame onto poor people for using single use plastics. It's a bizarre paradox.
In conclusion, car manufacturers need to get their shit together so more people can buy EVs at a price that isn't insane. Thank you goodbye

Architectural Shingles vs 3-Tab: What’s Right for Your Home? - City Builders LLC

Architectural Shingles vs 3-Tab: What’s Right for Your Baltimore Home?
If your roof is old and you’ve noticed missing shingles or lots of granules in your gutters, it might be time to start thinking about roof replacement. If you have anything other than a flat roof, an asphalt shingle roof is probably what you’re looking at. They’re a cost-effective solution for Maryland homeowners. Today, we’ll go over some highlights of architectural shingles vs 3-Tab shingles.
Pros and Cons of 3-Tab Shingles
We’ll start with 3-tab shingles, because for many years, they have been the industry standard. If your roof is more than 20 years old, it probably has 3-tab shingles. 3-tab shingles are designed to look like 3 shingles, but it’s all one piece, with notched tags (three) at the bottom. They’re lightweight, and made with asphalt and a fiberglass backing, with colored granules on top. They can withstand winds of 60-70 mph.
Appearance
3-tab shingles are flat, and give a flat, uniform, minimalist appearance to your roof. They’re available in a variety of colors to coordinate with your home’s exterior color.
Lifespan
A 3-tab shingle roof, if properly installed today, should last 10-25 years, depending on your location, weather trends, and the manufacturer.
Cost
3-tab shingles are the most affordable asphalt shingle on the market. If you’re on a tight budget, they may be a viable option. But keep in mind, a 3-tab shingle roof will need roof repairs before a more durable architectural shingle roof will.
Keep reading to learn more about how architectural shingles compare to 3-tab shingles.
Pros and Cons of Architectural Shingles
Architectural shingles, also known as dimensional shingles, or composite shingles, are growing in popularity. They’re an asphalt shingle made of multiple layers of material, asphalt, and granules, instead of standard 3-tab shingles, which have a single layer of material over a fiberglass mat. They are more wind-resistant due to their thickness, weight, and installation methods, with some architectural shingles able to withstand winds of up to 120 mph.
Appearance
Because of their composition, architectural shingles give a 3-dimensional appearance. They can mimic the look of cedar shakes or slate tile, for a more high-end look. They’re also available in a wider variety of colors, shading, and shapes than 3-tab shingles. They can improve your home’s curb appeal for years to come.
Lifespan
An architectural shingle roof can last more than 50 years, if properly maintained. You will also get a longer manufacturer’s warranty than you will with 3-tab shingles.
Cost
Architectural shingles cost 40-50% more than 3-tab shingles. There’s no question about that. But when you combine the facts that they have up to double the lifespan of 3-tab shingles as well as the increased wind resistance and curb appeal, the additional cost may be worth it.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is only you (and your HOA) know which shingles are right for you. Your tastes, budget, how long you plan to live in your home, and other factors will determine the best choice for your home. If you want to see what each type of shingle would look like on your home, use the GAF home remodeler tool.
You can also probably take a walk down your street, and look up. Notice the difference between your roof and the new roof on the neighbor’s house. Chances are good they got architectural shingles. Which style of shingle looks better to you?

UK woodlands could store almost twice as much carbon as previously estimated

UK woodlands could store almost twice as much carbon as previously estimated
UK forests could store almost double the amount of carbon than previous calculations suggest, with consequences for our understanding of carbon stocks and humanity’s response to climate change, according to a new study involving UCL researchers.
For the study, published today in the journal Ecological Solutions and Evidence, the international team of scientists used a novel 3D scanning technique and analysis to assess the amount of aboveground biomass (AGB) — used to derive carbon storage — of 815 trees in a UK woodland. The team found that their results were 77% higher than previous estimates (410 t ha-1 of biomass vs 232 t ha-1).
The authors say that their study could have implications for the role of forests in tackling climate change, with the potential underestimation of forest carbon stocks having both positive and negative consequences for climate policy.
Study co-author Professor Mat Disney (UCL Geography and the National Centre for Earth Observation) said: “Forests currently act as a carbon sink in the UK. However, whilst our finding that the carbon storage capacity of typical UK woodland could be nearly double what we previously thought might seem like a purely positive outcome, in practice this means that for every ha of woodland lost, we’re potentially losing almost twice the carbon sink capacity we thought.
“This has serious implications for our understanding of the benefits of protecting trees in terms of climate mitigation — and deforestation and afforestation targets more broadly.”
The study was a collaboration between researchers from UCL, UK’s National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), the Universities of Ghent, Oxford and Tampere, The National Physical Laboratory, and Sylvera. To establish their findings, the team undertook 3D terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) analysis in a 1.4 ha section of Wytham Woods in Oxfordshire. TLS is a remote sensing technique whereby millions of laser pulses are emitted to capture the environment and structures of trees in the woodland in 3D.
They then used statistical modelling to calculate the mass and volume of the trees, and subsequently the carbon storage capacity of the area, and compared this to the findings of previous models.
The authors say that their study brings into question the certainty of estimates of forest carbon storage across the UK, particularly for the largest and most carbon-heavy trees, which are currently based on widely used models that estimate tree mass from the trunk diameter. It is likely that previous studies have been greatly underestimating forest biomass across the UK.
Study lead author Professor Kim Calders (Ghent University) said: “Currently, most estimates of forest carbon stocks are based on simple allometric models that assume that a tree’s size and mass increase at a steady rate. Our findings show that relying on these models is problematic, as they are not representative of UK forests. While the models work well for trees smaller than around 50 cm in diameter, which are fairly uniform in terms of their size and volume, this isn’t what we see for larger, heavier trees. These are far more complex when it comes to structure — and they vary hugely across place and species.
“It’s vital that we’re able to reduce uncertainty in forest carbon estimates, given that land use, and forest protection and restoration in particular, constitute a quarter of countries’ current commitments to their Paris Agreement targets.”
Currently, the UK’s biomass stock reporting to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN is based on these allometric models, which the authors say have very likely resulted in significant under-reporting.
Study co-author Yadvinder Malhi (Oxford University) added: “Wytham Woods belongs to the University of Oxford and has witnessed over 70 years of detailed scientific research. This research shows how new approaches can yield surprises in even well-studied forests, with profound consequences for our understanding of forests and their role in tackling climate change that apply across the UK and beyond.”

Custom Photo Feature || Sprite and Background Prices and How to Purchase
Hi, I’m back with the sprite prices after like a month because I don’t have good time management skills </333 If there’s any mistakes or anything’s unclear, please let me know!
For the guide of how to use this feature, go here. Below is how to purchase extra sprites and backgrounds the game gives you. (Yes, I reused some images from the other guide shhhh)
WHERE TO PURCHASE
Sprites/Chara Select: Change and purchase sprites here Backgrounds: Change and purchase backgrounds here
PURCHASING SPRITES
After clicking the Chara Select option, this window will pop up. To select a different sprite, click the image.
Then this window will open and scroll down to find the sprites with the colored banners which are the purchasable sprites. However, to change chara, click the top right button next to the arrow.
Which will open this window. Columns are in chara order and rows are in order of troupe as shown above. Now onto the actual purchasing!
After clicking a purchasable sprite (REMINDER: the ones with the colored banners), this window will pop up and it’ll ask you to confirm if you really want to purchase the selected chara sprite. The number below is how many you have of the item needed. Onto how much everything costs!
SPRITE COSTS
To purchase TROUPE sprites, you need Sakura/Sunflower/Cosmos/Narcissus Seeds and Buds which look like these. (NOTE: You use these to train your cards so be very careful using these if you don’t have many)
I’ve created multiple google spreadsheets for the individual prices of each troupe and the side charas which I’ll let you view, click the troupe names to open their spreadsheet. I’ve also done the math for you and please keep in mind that I’ll be editing the spreadsheets when new sprites come out on my own time.

The backgrounds starting from this one are all 3 SAA’s and end before the background below.
The backgrounds starting from here are all 100 coins.
And that’s about it, here’s the guide for the Custom Photo Feature again. If anyone has any further questions or if you noticed I missed something, please send in an ask!

Basic Programming
Back in the summer of last year, during our first lockdown I was busy putting the finishing touches to a program I’d been writing using the BASIC programming language. Are you of a certain age and remember trying to program in BASIC (Beginner’s All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code)?
I’ve found an app for iOS called cbmHandBasic.
That’s the ‘what it looks like in the App Store’ image. This allows you to do a bit of BASIC programming.
But before you try out your own programming you wanna sample my terrible programming skills and play my interpretation of Hangman, don’t you?
Assuming you said yes to that question, here’s what you need to do:
🔸Install cbmHandBasic on your iPhone or iPad
🔸Copy the entire contents of my BASIC program which appears below onto your clipboard.
🔸Launch cbmHandBasic
🔸On a new line type Edit “hangman.bas” and hit the Return key
🔸A new screen should appear with something like 10 PRINT “Hello World”
🔸Just ignore this and tap the screen, so the cursor is on a new line
🔸 Tap the screen a second time and the options ‘Select | Select All | Paste’ should appear
🔸Tap on ‘Paste’ and the contents of the clipboard should appear
🔸Tap on ‘Save’ at the top of the screen and you will go back to the original screen
🔸Now on a new line type Load “hangman.bas” and hit the Return key
🔸Finally type Run, hit the Return key and the program should run
Don’t get too excited it’s far from perfect and there’s no graphics in the program. The word you have to try and guess is chosen at random from a selection of 52 words I’ve built into the program. There’s no check made as to what your previous word was so there is a possibility that you could get the same word twice in a row.
If you’re feeling really adventurous you could add more words, which if you know BASIC you’ll easily see where they should go within the program. The only restriction being that you can only use letters a-z, no numbers, punctuation or spaces. It doesn’t matter if you use upper or lower case as the program converts all into upper case.
If you do add more words it is most important to make sure the last DATA line reads: DATA “end”. An error will occur if this is not the last line.
If carrying out the above procedure to get the program any subsequent times you wish to play Hangman you just need to type Load “hangman.bas” and hit the Return key followed by Run and hitting the Return key.
Have fun! 😊
Here’s the program:

The Ideological Paradox Of Stare Decisis
By David B. Arnold, American University Class of 2021
November 11, 2020
The hearings in the Senate to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett as a new Associate Justice of the Supreme Court have led liberals to fear and conservatives to hope that she might provide a vote to overthrow established precedents. The decision to prohibit state laws against abortion from Roe v. Wade (1973)and to allow the federal government to implement the Affordable Care Act in King v. Burwell (2015) are both perceived as especially at risk.
The moderating force on the Supreme Court, and indeed on the federal courts as a whole and all state courts except Louisiana, is the doctrine called stare decisis, in English “to stand by that which is decided” (Latin is a compact language) [1]. Stare decisis is frequently used in legal systems based off English Common Law, as it is thought to give a certain consistency to statutory interpretation and the use of state power. The famous quote by Justice Louis Brandeis about stare decisis is that it is “ more important that the applicable rule of law be settled than that it be settled right” [2]. Citizens can, in theory, better be aware of their duties and responsibilities in a system where the law is carried out in a predictable and knowable fashion.
Complications
It takes a very brief survey of American history to reveal that legal thinking on a given subject will often change. This is perhaps most notable in civil rights law, where the legal doctrine of “separate but equal accommodation” was torn down over the course of decades by the NAACP, often using arguments deduced from then groundbreaking social science focusing on the effects of anti-Black discrimination in the American context[3]. The changing of established precedent is likewise notable in cases about the extent to which the government is bound to respect gay marriage and cases concerning economic regulation.
Stare decisis is a concept that is generally applicable, but as these examples demonstrate, no jurist would argue the doctrine is always applicable. Many of the rights modern Americans have arrived at their present form out of reinterpretation of previous decisions by the Warren and Burger Courts (1953-1969,1969-1986, respectively). Among these are the right of the accused to counsel[4], the right of a woman to have an early term abortion[5], gender equality in property law[6], and of course the rights of children not to be segregated for the purpose of creating a racial divide in public education[7]. One can safely say that the liberal Supreme Court of the ‘60s and ‘70s was not overly concerned with previous precedents restricting civil liberties. Conservatives see this period as a time of unbounded judicial activism. The paradox this activism creates is that the intrinsically conservative doctrine of stare decisis prevents conservative attacks on decisions made by two Courts who did not feel bound by stare decisis on a plethora of critical issues.
Considering the sanctity with which this doctrine is regarded, it is surprising when a judicial figure attacks it. Justice Clarence Thomas argued with the doctrine in 2019 when he concurred in the case of an Alabama man named Gamble who was charged separately for the same offense of arms trafficking in state and federal court, raising the important question of whether two sovereignties charging an individual for the same act is unconstitutional double jeopardy[8]. Justice Thomas concurred with the Opinion Justice Alito wrote for the Court that this procedure was permissible, but wrote a concurrence to have the opportunity to talk about his own philosophy.
“In my view, the Court’s typical formulation of the stare decisis standard does not comport with our judicial duty under Article III because it elevates demonstrably erroneous decisions—meaning decisions outside the realm of permissible interpretation—over the text of the Constitution and other duly enacted federal law”[9].He argued for a textual approach, saying“By applying demonstrably erroneous precedent instead of the relevant law’s text—as the Court is particularly prone to do when expanding federal power or crafting new individual rights—the Court exercises “force” and “will,” two attributes the People did not give it. The Federalist No. 78, p. 465”[10]. If Justice Thomas’ view was that of the Court in general the sweeping civil rights decisions of the last 60 years would be open to reargument on the grounds that stare decisis does not justify the Court continuing to shape policy, a power the Framer’s did not intend for the Court to have. Whether the Court’s decisions actually was judicial overreach in each particular case would be open to endless debate with no clear conclusion, except those provided by the legislature. This would cause the American judiciary to function in way reminiscent of how Civil Law systems function in other countries, with more emphasis on legislative decisions than legal precedent.
Justice Thomas is not shy about the case that frames the seemingly theoretical stare decisis debate in real terms. This summer term, in June Medical Services v. Russo LLC he wrote “when our prior decisions clearly conflict with the text of the Constitution, we are required to “privilege [the] text over our own precedents.” Id., at ___ (slip op., at 10). Because Roe and its progeny are premised on a “demonstrably erroneous interpretation of the Constitution,” we should not apply them here.”[10]A progressive might counter that the freedom of privacy from which the right to an abortion in the first trimester was extrapolated is now [11], 47 years later, a basic part of American jurisprudence, and a conservative justice who is more fond of stare decisis might agree. However, the argument Thomas poses comes from a fundamentally different worldview where precedent should be ignored if it does not strictly adhere to the text of the Constitution or relevant statute. Many liberals voice concern that Amy Barrett as a Justice may have the same view of stare decisis.
What is ironic about this situation is that inside the Supreme Court itself we are greeted with the unusual spectacle of a highly conservative Justice arguing that the Court should be open to rethinking its own decisions and that questions are not necessarily settled once they are ruled on, which seems to be against the innate meaning of conservatism. On the other hand, the progressives of the Court often defend decision like Roe v. Wade (and the case that modified that decision, Casey v. Planned Parenthood) as raising question laid to rest[12], which is, in a sense, an argument towards Common Law tradition as a guide to modern society. In essence, at the Supreme Court, progressivism requires a certain conservatism to maintain at present.

The Armsel Striker, Cobray Street Sweeper, and Ladies Home Companion
Invented by a Rhodesian national named Hilton Walker in 1981, the Armsel Striker is a unique weapon in that it is a modern revolving shotgun. Chambered in 12 gauge, what looks like drum magazine is actually a revolving cylinder with twelve chambers, thus holding 12 shells. Shells are individually loaded into the cylinder on the right hand side of the weapon, with an ejection rod included for ejecting empty shells. Later models replaced the ejection rod with an auto ejector. The Striker has a double action only firing mechanism, meaning a pull of the trigger both rotates the cylinder and fires a shell. This led to a problem in early prototypes because the large, heavy cylinder of the Striker resulted in a very heavy trigger pull. To compensate, Walker integrated a clockwork mechanism which aided the rotation of the cylinder. The mechanism was manually wound for it to work. Other interesting features include a folding buttstock, forward grip, and construction mostly made from stamped metal and plastic, making the Striker very economical.
The Striker did have some drawbacks, namely that it was a time consuming process to load the weapon and wind it’s clockwork mechanism. Regardless the Armsel striker has been adopted by the South African military and police. In the United States a company called Cobray manufactured a low quality clone called the Street Sweeper. Cobray was a company known for producing low quality copies of other firearms, dirt cheap derringers, and some original designs of questionably quality that were often unique, bizarre, and mostly impractical. Today Cobray has been succeeded by Leinad. Cobray experienced some legal troubles when the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) classified the Armsel Striker as a destructive device, thus making it illegal without a special NFA license. With this designation, the Cobray Street Sweeper was likewise illegal since it was a clone of the Striker. Thus Cobray redesigned the Street Sweeper to conform with the law. The forward grip was removed as was the folding stock. More important, caliber was changed from 12 gauge shothell to .45-70, and later .410 shotshell/.45 Colt. With removal of the stock, forward grip, and change of caliber the new weapon was now legally considered a pistol, thus free of NFA regulation. To avoid attention of the new weapon by the BATF and gun control groups the new weapon was given a more benign, less harmful sounding but very tongue in cheek name; The Ladies Home Companion.

You're reading: How much should you pay to have a bathroom fitted?

The costs and job times stated should only be used as a rough guide. They can vary for several reasons (see below).
How much is a bathroom suite?
At Victoria Plum, we know how much you care about the cost of your bathroom, and the best way to keep those costs down is by buying quality bathroom products at a price that’s right. So, why not browse our luxury freestanding baths, stylish basins and contemporary toilets, all at easily affordable prices?
For starters, we offer full bathroom suites (including a toilet, basin and bath) starting from as little as £245*, helping you to renovate your bathroom on a budget.
The stylish Eden bathroom suite is a popular choice for our customers
Bathroom installation costs vary
While you can get a good evaluation of estimated costs when planning work on your bathroom, the end figure can vary. Our recommended installers quoted a range of £160 to £210 for small jobs like fitting a pedestal basin with taps, while larger tasks such as tiling a bathroom came in with an average fee of around £85 per square metre.
Overall, the average cost of installing a new bathroom in the UK is £6,500. However, if you’re simply swapping a like-for-like suite, without additional tiling or flooring, you may be able to achieve this for considerably less.
Read more: What Is an En Suite Bathroom/Bedroom? – En Suite Definition – Architecture Beast
The reason why costs vary is that each job will need to be priced in relation to its individual circumstances. The size and shape of your bathroom will affect how easy a job is to complete, how long it will take and how much materials will be used. If there are unseen complications, such as damaged piping, then this will raise the cost of the quote. Costs can also increase where existing fixtures need to be removed.
Bathroom installation costs can vary by location
Another reason why bathroom installation costs can vary is due to the location or region in which you live. For example, in a large urban area, where there are many tradespeople competing against each other, you may be able to find a plumber who will complete your jobs at a slightly lower cost than those we’ve estimated. However, for those living in London, where weekly earnings are £152 higher than the UK average, you can typically add an extra 10%–20% to our estimated bathroom installation costs. You may also expect to pay a little more if you live in a remote location, like a village or an island.
Bathroom installers near me
Hiring bathroom installers who lives local to you is always important. After all, you wouldn’t want a tradesperson travelling several hours to your home and feeling tired upon arrival. That’s why, with our Design and Installation service, we only use local bathroom fitters who are accredited by the British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBi). So, whether you live in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol or anywhere else in the UK, you can enjoy the services of a local bathroom installer.
What about waste?
No job in the bathroom is mess-free and this throws up the question of waste disposal. Traders will dispose of materials for you but they have to pay business rates to do so. This means that if you’re only generating a small amount of waste then it could prove costly.
The top tip here is to investigate whether you could dispose of any waste materials yourself for less money (e.g. by hiring a skip, using a waste bag or taking some of the waste to a local tip). If this is the case then why not suggest it to your workers?
Finish comes first
Last, but by no means least, the underlying message from Which? Local’s survey of bathroom installers found that quality is always the priority with any job. Just like at Victoria Plum, where we only stock high quality products made from the best materials, reputable installers will put the finish of the job at hand above everything else.
The Clarity straight bath suite is available from as little as £245*
It may cost you a little more to get a professional finish but surely this is something worth paying for? After all, a bathroom which has been installed correctly and looks great is more likely to last than one which has a “cheap and cheerful” attitude.
For a real-life case study, check out our blog post “Bathrooms on a budget” and find out how we managed to makeover a whole family bathroom for under £600!

30 THINGS TO WEAR THIS SUMMER: SNEAKERS AS ART OBJECT
Summer’s freshest, most covetable style isn’t the futuristic high-top, it’s the classic running shoe in artfully re-imagined, totally streamlined form. The museum-caliber design on these things is color-blocked in ways you’re not used to seeing at Foot Locker.
A lot of these new colorful kicks get their inspiration from ‘70s running shoes and the best way to style them is to let them have the spotlight. That’s easy to accomplish when you keep everything neutral up top so your feet become the focal point.
I personally wear sneakers all year round, but come summer, my favorite way to style a cool pair of sneakers is by pairing them with a well-tailored suit. It’s classic Italian styling. Luxury isn’t just the idea of using precious and unusual materials. It’s about the construction, the finishing, and what you could almost call the tailoring of the sneakers.
⬆ GOOD DESIGN COMES FIRST (LOGOS COME LAST) The sneaker that doubles as art object is a low-top shoe with an aggressive mix of colors and textures. The branding, however, is subtle and in some cases even invisible. 1. Calvin Klein: $595 2. Christian Louboutin: $1,250 3. Zara: $79.90 $29.99 4. Buscemi: $795 $309 5. Karhu: $135 6. Balenciaga: $695 7. Acne Studios: $410 8. Zara: $49.99 $29.99
I’m wearing a Suitsupply suit, Joe Fresh shirt, Ermenegildo Zegna sneakers and H&M socks
I hope this post inspires you to break out of your traditional sneakers this summer and open an art gallery where your feet are. If you have any questions about where to shop for these type of sneakers or how to style them, click here and ask me anything. Have a great day and don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter down below to get Reyal Fashion sent straight to your inbox.

Things have unfortunately changed here - I received this in 6/2005: 'Thanks for your website. I was a season pass holder at Beaver Dam Swimming Club in MD from 1991 to 2002. In early 2002 they closed off about 1/4 of the shimming hole. In 2003 to present they closed off more than 3/4 of the hole. Now only the corner is open near the rope swing, even the cliffs are roped off. The roped off portion includes one of the logs. The reason for closing it off was 1) lost lawsuits and 2) Baltimore County regulations. My problem (aside from missing my summer swimming) is that neither Baltimore Magazine(who listed it last month) , your website, or the Beaver Dam website(link below) mention this. In fact they post old pictures on their website that indicate that long closed portions of the swimming hole are open. I wish you would indicate this on your website.' Can also camp at the C&O Canal at GREEN RIDGE 4 (see below, tables and Johnny toilets, $10.00). For luxury, go west 15 miles on I-68 to Rocky Gap S.P., expensive camping but very nice - on a big lake with swimming and boating and a lodge. BATHING SUITSVaries, see below DIRECTIONSFrom Hancock, take I-68 west. Then:
GREEN RIDGE 1 (GRE1): Near the town of Flintstone in Fifteen Mile Creek is a not terribly scenic but convenient and fun swimming hole with rope swing (someone usually puts one up every year). This place may have no water later in the summer. PHOTO 1, PHOTO 2 . Not really in the State Forest but nearby. Bathing suits customary (it is a local hangout). To get here: From I-68, take Exit 62 (Scenic 40 and Fifteen Mile Creek Rd) and go north onto Scenic RT 40. At about a mile, Scenic 40 will curve to the right. Go left onto Fifteen Mile Creek Rd (gravel). At approximately .8 miles, the swimming hole will be on the right, at a culvert/bridge just past Carpenter Rd. LAT, LON : lat=39.6934, lon= -78.4523(source: measured) (accuracy: exact) LINK TO GOOGLE MAP. Very confident. Verified 4/04. Updated 4/04.
GREEN RIDGE 2 (GRE2): Near the town of Little Orleans in Fifteen Mile Creek are a series of pools along the creek. Also an outstanding large pool called Longs Pond. Great informal (backpack) camping spots. Bathing suits may be optional in places. To get here: From I-68, take Exit 62 (Scenic 40 and Fifteen Mile Creek Rd). Go south on Fifteen Mile Creek Rd (gravel, sometimes rough but passable in a car) for 2.6 miles, keeping left at all decision points (e.g., do NOT go onto Greenridge Rd.) At 2.6 miles (past campsite #55 but BEFORE campsite #56) you will go down a hill and cross a creek and see a trailhead on the immediate other side of this bridge. Park here. There is a trail information sign here saying Long Pond Ridge Trail. Take the trail downstream (left) along a stream (it is not Fifteen Mile Creek, yet). The trail is marked red on the maps and also is marked red on the trees. Walk about .6 miles to where the trail splits. The red trail (Long Pond Ridge Trail) continues to the right; a blue-blazed trail goes to the left after crossing a stream. From here, there appear to be two ways to go toward Long Pond - the 'Bushwack' way and the 'Long Pond Ridge Trail' way (below) - neither one is clearly better. Long's Pond: LAT, LON : lat=39.65842, lon= -78.44737(source: measured) (accuracy: exact) LINK TO GOOGLE MAP . Bushwack: If you take the blue-blazed trail you will soon come to a trail registry. In a short distance, when the trail begins to go steeply uphill. Here, leave the trail and wade across the creek and bushwhack pretty much straight downstream - there is an old overgrown road here which you are roughly following. (Keep on the lookout for snakes and use long pants and/or deet to repel ticks along the bushwacking parts of the trail.) You will bushwack for about 20 minutes, passing some wading/swimming places (and campsites) that are NOT Long Pond NOT LONG POND, then you will come to Long Pond itself which is a wide and deep spot on Fifteen Mile Creek with pronounced diagonally sloping rock strata on the rock bluff on the far side. LONG POND , LONG POND. There is a nice shady picnic area/campsite set up with natural stones to make seats. Pretty confident. Partially verified 4/04. Updated 6/2010. Long Pond Ridge Trail: At the trail split, you continue on the red trail, 'Long Pond Ridge Trail', and it rises very steeply, and the hike continues along the ridge before going down to the creek. From where the red and blue trails split to the bottom of the ridge is about a mile. Expect a steep, tiring hike of about 30 minutes from where the trails split - to be avoided unless you have good hiking shoes. When you finish the descent from the ridge, then you will see a 1.6 mile marker. Long Pond is maybe a hundred yards from there on the left. There is a path leading to it where people have set up a picnic area/campsite, so it is easy to spot. The water (in early June) was about 5 feet deep in a few places. As for bathing suits, the Pond is secluded in general, but not from the trail. Anyone hiking the red trail would be able to see. Pretty confident. Not verified. Updated 6/2010.
GREEN RIDGE 3 (GRE3): Swimming hole where 15 mile Creek dumps into the Potomac River. There is a boat ramp and there is usually a rope swing attached. The water is between 4' and 8' deep, depending on area and water level. The C&O Canal towpath allows you to cross the creek so you can enter the water on either side. You can swim in the creek or in the Potomac and even cross over to West Virginia.PHOTO. NOTE: Only adults who are also strong swimmers should enter the main stream of the Potomac, as the current is very strong. Sharing the area with locals and fishermen needs to be taken into account. For rafting / tubing, hike up the Potomac on the C&O Canal towpath as far as you want and you can raft down the Potomac back to your car. To get here: From MD I-68 take Exit 68 and go south on Orleans Road for about 6 miles. After 6 miles, take a left (east) at an intersection, where the signs point to the C&O Canal (right/straight continues west as Oldtown Orleans Rd). Pass by a small country store and outfitter shop called 'Bill's Place', pass under railroad tracks, and turn right immediately. Turn left at the campground entrance and cross the wooden bridge over the C&O canal. There is plenty of parking and several fee camping spots, with self-registration at $10 a night. (Recommend camping at one of the many camping spots at Green Ridge State Forest, which are more private ($7 a night). LAT, LON : lat=39.62412, lon= -78.38626(source: measured) (accuracy: exact) LINK TO GOOGLE MAP. Very confident. Verified 4/04. Updated 4/04. TOWN CREEK (TOWN): Nice small swimming hole in Town Creek (near where it empties into the Potomac River) that is 7-10 feet deep with a rock formation to jump off of with jumps at 8, 15 and 25 feet. Plus size speed dating near ferndale missouri. To get here from I-68 in Cumberland, take RT 51 south for 20-25 miles. After you cross Town Creek (steel bridge) go about another .6 mile to a sign on the right that says Town Creek Aquaduct/ C & O Canal entrance. Turn right on to this access road and go until you come to the barricade at the end. About 200 yards before the barricade you will see a trail going down to your right. Walk down here and you will find the swimming hole. A great place on a hot day. LAT, LON : lat=39.52437, lon= -78.5441(source: map) (accuracy: approximate) LINK TO GOOGLE MAP. Pretty confident. I planned my own circuit hike that finished up at the swimming hole, then followed the trail you described back to the parking lot. It's there, with some nice rocks for sunning afterward. The water isn't particularly deep, but enough to swim around. Mostly smooth rocks and some mucky stuff on the bottom - I didn't have water shoes but didn't have a problem. Without Enough Boots on the Ground, California’s Vaccination Efforts Falter
California’s vaccination rates have stagnated, particularly in Black and Latino inner-city neighborhoods and in rural towns. County health officials, who say trust is their most important commodity, need more money for one-on-one interactions with holdouts, but the state has instead largely funneled money to advertising firms and tech companies. (Angela Hart, 6/28)
The New York Times: A Study Finds That The Pfizer And Moderna Vaccines Could Offer Protection For Years The vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna set off a persistent immune reaction in the body that may protect against the coronavirus for years, scientists reported on Monday. The findings add to growing evidence that most people immunized with the mRNA vaccines may not need boosters, so long as the virus and its variants do not evolve much beyond their current forms — which is not guaranteed. People who recovered from Covid-19 before being vaccinated may not need boosters even if the virus does make a significant transformation. (Mandavilli, 6/28)
Bay Area News Group: California Now Averaging Fewer Than 100,000 Daily COVID Vaccinations California’s rate of vaccination against COVID-19 keeps slowing down, with more than a quarter of eligible residents still not vaccinated. California is averaging 91,783 daily shots as of Thursday, according to data from the state’s Department of Public Health. That’s a 26 percent decline from the previous week’s average, and a significant drop from April 24, when the state was averaging 365,686 daily shots. California’s daily vaccination average increased slightly shortly after introducing its vaccine lottery, which included cash prizes for inoculated residents. (Castaneda, 6/26)
The Bakersfield Californian: Lost Hills Reaches Exceptional Vaccination Rate With Help Of The Wonderful Co. A sustained effort by one of Kern’s largest private employers has helped produce one of the county’s highest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the remote town of Lost Hills. The county Public Health Services Department on Friday credited Los Angeles-based grower The Wonderful Co. for Lost Hills being one of only five areas in Kern that has achieved U.S. President Joe Biden’s goal of having no less than 70 percent of adults receive at least one shot of the vaccine by Independence Day. (Cox, 6/27)
San Francisco Chronicle: This Bay Area County Sorts COVID Into Vaccinated And Unvaccinated. It’s ‘a Tale Of Two Counties’ Contra Costa is the first county in the Bay Area to publicly break out new coronavirus cases among vaccinated and unvaccinated residents, and the numbers show a stark disparity — virtually all those now being infected have not gotten their shots. As of Friday, the daily average of new cases in Contra Costa County over the previous week among those who have been fully vaccinated was 0.6 per 100,000 residents. But it was 6 per 100,000 among those who are not inoculated — 10 times higher. (Vaziri, 6/26)
Southern California News Group: Younger California Kids: To Vax Or Not To Vax? That Is The Question Come fall, parents of elementary schoolchildren will make a decision that’s weightier than which backpack to buy for the new school year: Deputize Junior as a foot soldier in the war against COVID-19’s spread in the U.S. and get the child vaccinated? Or sit this one out with the knowledge that younger kids are far less likely to get severe illness than their grandparents? As school bells ring in September, data from clinical trials of the Pfizer vaccine on children ages 5 to 11 are expected to go to the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization. Moderna’s trials in younger kids are not far behind. (Sforza, 6/28)
The Bakersfield Californian: Kern County Superior Court Won’t Require Masks For Vaccinated Starting Monday, Kern County Superior Court will no longer require people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to wear a face mask to enter the courthouses, but still encourages masks. People entering courthouses without a mask will be considered to have self-attested that they are fully vaccinated; proof can be requested, according to a court news release. (6/26)
inewsource: Three Post-Vaccination COVID Deaths Confirmed In San Diego County At least three San Diego County residents have died of COVID-19 after being vaccinated, according to county officials and medical examiner records. The county announced earlier this month the death of a fully vaccinated woman. She was 70 and died in March after being hospitalized. At the time it was considered the first such death, but medical examiner records obtained by inewsource show a 73-year-old vaccinated man at the county-run Edgemoor Hospital in Santee died of COVID-19 on Feb. 2. (Plummer, 6/26)
LA Daily News: LA County Reports 239 New Coronavirus Cases; Concern Endures Over Infectious ‘Delta’ Variant Los Angeles County reported 239 new cases of COVID-19 and three additional deaths on Sunday, June 27, though the number of cases and deaths likely reflect reporting delays over the weekend. Sunday’s figures brought the county’s totals to 1,249,304 cases and 24,477 fatalities since the pandemic began, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said. According to state figures, there were 238 people hospitalized in the county due to COVID-19 as of Sunday, up from 231 on Saturday. There were 52 COVID patients in intensive care, down from 55 the previous day. (6/27)
Orange County Register: Disneyland Brings Back Single Rider Lines For Most Popular Attractions Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have brought back single rider lines on some of the most popular rides for the first time since the Anaheim theme parks reopened. Single rider lines returned today, June 26 at Disneyland and DCA. State guidelines discouraged the use of single-rider lines when theme parks initially reopened starting April 1 because they were “likely inconsistent with physical distancing,” but capacity limits and social distancing requirements were lifted June 15. (MacDonald, 6/26)
San Francisco Chronicle: Coronavirus: Timeline Of The COVID-19 Outbreak Across The Bay Area, California, U.S. The Chronicle began covering the coronavirus crisis before the first cases were reported in the Bay Area and a pandemic was declared in 2020. We reorganized the newsroom to dedicate nearly every resource toward stories focusing on the health and economic disasters. Every day we have published live updates to reflect the most critical local, national and global updates on COVID-19 in an effort to keep our community safe and informed. Below is a comprehensive timeline of The Chronicle’s live updates coverage of the coronavirus outbreak, which includes thousands of news items as they happened. (6/27)
San Francisco Chronicle: Where Are Drugs To Beat COVID – And The Next Pandemic? Even with powerful vaccines in hand and the coronavirus waning across most of the United States, there’s still an urgent need for drugs to treat COVID-19 — and that could lay the foundation for the next generation of therapies for pandemics, say Bay Area scientists conducting such research. Drug therapies were an early focus in the pandemic, when it wasn’t clear how long it would take to develop effective vaccines. But while vaccine development has been enormously successful, thanks in large part to the federal government’s $18 billion investment, drug treatments have been disappointingly elusive. (Allday, 6/27)
San Francisco Chronicle: California’s Power Grid May Issue Flex Alert As Scorching Temperatures Hit California Scorching temperatures baking some parts of California may mean that state residents will be asked to voluntarily conserve energy, officials said Sunday. A heat bulletin from the California Independent System Operator said officials might issue a flex alert and ask consumers “to reduce electricity use during critical times of stress on the [power] grid.” (Flores, 6/27)
San Francisco Chronicle: California Far North Residents Told To Be Ready To Flee Fire As Needed The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office alerted people living north of Weed to be prepared to evacuate the area as the Lava Fire grew Sunday to 410 acres. One of four fires started by lightening in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest late last week, the Lava Fire was initially contained but then broke out and began spreading, according to Suzi Johnson, a spokesperson with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. (Dizikes, 6/27)
Sacramento Bee: California ISO Won’t Issue Flex Alert Monday Amid Heat Wave California’s largest electrical grid operator changed course Sunday after saying it could issue a Flex Alert on Monday, which would have asked residents to voluntarily conserve energy as a heat wave pushes demand on the grid. The California Independent System Operator, which manages about 80% of the state’s energy supply, said in a statement issued Sunday afternoon that it was “poised to call” a Flex Alert on Monday due to high temperatures which have been pushing residential air conditioning units into overdrive this month. AP: California Budget Boosts Health Care For Older Immigrants California will soon pay the health care bills for low-income people 50 and older who are living in the country illegally, part of an expansion of Medicaid that aims to inch the nation’s most populous state toward Democrats’ goal of making sure everyone has health insurance. The new coverage will eventually cost taxpayers about $1.3 billion per year, money that’s part of the new state operating budget that Gov. Gavin Newsom and state legislative leaders unveiled Friday night. Explanation:
Unique local addresses
Unique local addresses are IPv6 addresses that are private to an organization in the same way that private
addresses–such as 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, or 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255–can be used on an IPv4
network.
Unique local addresses, therefore, are not routable on the IPv6 Internet in the same way that an address
like 10.20.100.55 is not routable on the IPv4 Internet.
A unique local address is always structured as follows:
The first 8 bits are always 11111101 in binary format. This means that a unique local address always
begins with FD and has a prefix identifier of FD00::/8.
