Summersea’s GoT Season 4 Rewatch 2019
Otherwise known as: “The Long Slow Slide to D and D Running Out of Material from the Books”
4x01:
1. The visuals of Ice getting melted down are SO PRETTY (while RoC plays on the background 😎 living my best Lannister Life over here.)
2. Jaime getting the sword and trying NOT to be Lord of Casterly Rock and HOLY SHIT TELLING TYWIN NO and getting away with it.
3. Tyrion is trying so hard to greet the Dornish politely... poor guy.
4. It’s pride month so I’m just pointing out that Oberyn is soooo biiiii and This Bi Girl loves him. And him playing with the flame and Ellaria trying to stop him from killing the Lannister who insulted him... I just love their dynamic.
5. Drogon is just a big happy dragon-Cat and in Dany’s first appearance of this season. He PURRS.
6. I love Jaime and Cersei’s scene with Jaime’s new hand. They snipe at each other, but it is SO how they interact.
7. Jon and Sansa reacting to Robb’s death :(
8. GUESS WHO DID NOT MISS JANOS SLYNT OR ALLISER THORNE AT ALL THATS RIGHT MEEEE. Also Alliser is Peter Knox in a Discovery of Witches so I just HATE HIS FACE.
9. TREAT THAT BOOK MORE CAREFULLY JOFFREY YOU LITTLE SHIT and treat your uncle more nicely too. Jaime looks a little taken aback at what a little turd his oldest has become, but handles it well I think.
10. Jaime and Brienne trying to sort out how to keep his vow to Catelyn 🤣
11. YES ARYA GET NEEDLE BACK. Also Sandor being like NO CHILD COME BACK HERE DO NOT RUSH INTO DANGER WITHOUT ME is precious.
12. Sandor Clegane saying FUCK THE KING gives me such satisfaction
13. I should not be so happy about Arya re-enacting the time when Polliver
14. But I am happy that Sandor got his chickens
4x02
1. So I had forgotten that the girls who were in the scene where Theon gets cut are Myranda and the girl Ramsay is hunting later. I remembered how much I hate the Myranda thing real quick, though.
2. I love Tyrion being understanding of Jaime’s disability because HE WOULD BE. Also Tyrion pouring wine on the table to be like “look spilling is no big deal” is PRECIOUS.
3. Bronn knocking Jaime around while sparring is a great source of joy to me.
4. Theon finds out that Robb is dead when he’s got a RAZOR TO RAMSAY’S THROAT I can’t with Alfie’s face.
5. Every time I see Joffrey chop that book in half I want the purple wedding to be right now.
6. Tyrion trying to make Shae leave :...(
7. KEEP AWAY FROM SHIREEN, RED WOMAN, said Davos probably a lot
8. Question: why don’t the direwolves being food BACK to the hungry humans? Especially when Bran can warg into them?
9. So I want to go through every frame of that vision Bran has with the weirwood because the one we haven’t seen before is a Dragons over King’s Landing. Those ARE THE ROOFS YOU SEE IN THE NEXT SHOT FOR THE WEDDING.
10. Haha oh right this IS the purple wedding ep ooops I’d almost forgot. Not sorry for wishing death on Joffrey but sorry for Cersei’s sake and everyone else it fucks over.
11. Loras having eye sex with Oberyn cracks me up I mean they both have eyes and good gaydar... (bi-dar? queer-dar?)
12. Is Margaery... flirting with Brienne? Or is that just Margaery’s personality?
13. JAIME’S FACE when he sees Brienne and Cersei talking is SO FUNNY he’s like shit shit shit DANGER
14. What did Qyburn DO for Cersei that she is recommending to other women? She told him symptoms were gone in a previous ep in a weird mysterious way... did he help her end a pregnancy?? How long has it BEEN since Blackwater? This never comes back again but I’m super curious.
15. Oberyn has zero chill around Tywin and I love it.
16. Margaery looking like she is is going to murder someone during the war of the five Kings show is A Mood. (I mean... there IS about to be a murder.)
17. I don’t think the Tyrells planned it but Joffrey being a shit and making Tyrion touch his wine goblet and SANSA TOUCHING IT TOO played right into their hands.
4x03: oh brother here comes altar sex
1. I want very much for Hector Barbossa to be waiting at the top of that ladder for Sansa after approaching the ship and the creepy fog. But no it’s Petyr Baelish. Ew.
2. Hello new Tommen! Good to see you again after Karstark killed your identical cousin! Also Tywin being like GOOD KINGS ARE SMART AND LISTEN TO THEIR SMART ADVISORS. (That moment when a sitting US president needs to listen to Tywin. Scary?)
3. Altar sex has not aged well for me. I’m not a J/C shipper who thinks they’ve got a healthy relationship that’s all sunshine and kitties. I know the two of them have a messed up dynamic, but this scene misses the mark in so many ways and I hate it. I wish they would have left it out rather than done it wrong. (Also I think it was a tryout for me for “can you get a valonqar scene right?” And the answer was a resounding NO.)
4. Speaking of healthy relationships though Sam and Gilly are cute and sweet and awkward and everything that is good and pure in this world.
5. And so is Davos telling Shireen about his smuggling adventures.
6. Oberyn sat his beautiful self right in the middle of the Kinsey scale and said THE VIEW IS GREAT HERE. What an icon. Also offering Tywin fricking Lannister a seat on the bed where you were just having sex with like FOUR DIFFERENT PEOPLE was A Move.
7. Tywin TELLS OBERYN ABOUT DANY and Oberyn looks like this is the first he’s heard of it.
8. Tyrion saying goodbye to Pod gave me a decent sized lump in my throat.
9. Daario taking down the Champion Of Meereen with one thrown dagger and one slash of a sword is sexy as fuck and I don’t care who knows I think so.
4x04
1. Missandei teaching Grey Worm and just hanging out with him is so important to me this time around.
2. Jaime and Bronn are weird friends and I kind of love it.
3. The Kingslayer Brothers: coming soon to a stage near you. I’d buy that band’s shirt.
4. Olenna Tyrell is a STONE COLD LADY and I love that about her. She protected her granddaughter and I respect that.
5. That is A LOT OF WINE IN THAT GLASS Cersei my love. Also Jaime TRYING to convince her Tyrion didn’t do it hurts me. He loves them both so much, but they all hurt each other.
6. Ser Pounce is a big fluff like my Freya!
7. OATHKEEPER AND THE WHITE BOOK AND THE ARMOR. Brienne’s face is so pure when he gives it to her.
8. I had near forgotten all of this stuff at the wall with Olly and Jon and the cannibals and the mutineers at Craster’s and waiting for Mance’s army. (We know where my heart is though, don’t we...)
9. SIT DOWN LOCKE. I forgot that human shitstain showed up at the wall looking for Bran.
10. We didn’t need the mutineer plot. What did it add? What did we learn about the world or its people? Nothing we didn’t already know. What. Was. The. Point. We’d already seen the walkers and knew about the babies, we knew the world was violent and classist. WE KNEW.
11. I love when Summer is like HELLO BROTHER GHOST OH NO A TRAP
12. The white walker riding across the frozen lake... what a gorgeous image, and the ice henge...
13. WHAT DO THE BLUE EYED ICE BABIES GROW UP TO BEEEEE DO WE EVEN KNOW
4x05
1. I’d say long live King Tommen, but I’d cry.
2. Cersei is beauty she is grace she wants to punch Margaery in the face. (But actually is acting like she might need Margaery to help Tommen? That scene was hard to read.)
3. Meereen has a lot of cool geometrical carvings.
4. Dany thinking about what kind of ruler she wants to be and what responsibilities she has to the people she freed? THAT IS WHO SHE IS, D AND D YOU DICKS.
5. Sansa’s like “greeeeeaaaaat another creepy little kid” when she meets Robin.
6. And Lysa lets it ALL OUT about what Petyr has had her do... wow.
7. Cersei is going along with the Tyrell marriages way too easily what is her game.
8. Tywin is... almost treating his daughter like someone he can trust and have a conversation with? What is this?
9. And then there’s the stupidity about the mines running out. Wtf.
10. Arya is a little drama queen with saying the Hound’s name last while HE WAS LISTENING.
11. Lysa is SO DAMAGED. Poor Sansa.
12. Aw Brienne you don’t know what a loyal kid you’ve got in Podrick give him a chance.
13. Arya practicing water dancing is so cool.
14. Cersei and Oberyn talking is actually really interesting. And they talk about Myrcella :....( and Oberyn is TELLING THE TRUTH about her being happy.
15. Cersei got her A BOAT for her birthday because she LIKES THE OPEN WATER I had forgotten that and I am freaking out for fic reasons because of fics I haven’t written yet that involve Myrcella being good at boats.
16. Geez Pod I don’t know how to skin a rabbit but I know you need to before you cook it. And... does Brienne actually need help with that armor, or does she realize Pod needs to feel useful? I’m going with the second.
17. I had forgotten how creepy Jojen’s visions were.
18. Bran warging into Hodor and killing Locke is... problematic, but Bran had every reason to think Locke was going to kill him. Good fucking riddance.
19. Jon being happy to see Ghost XD
20. So... there’s just a troop of Crasters daughters out there still? Idek.
4x06 the laws of gods and men (and by men we mean Tywin)
1. Braavos is so pretty! I love her. I love her canals, I love the Titan, I love the domes, I just love her.
2. I remember when people lost their shit over Mark Gattis being in this episode. He is quite good here, and Davos is quite clever.
3. Salador’s joke about the red shirt is FUNNY and I’m not afraid to say so.
4. No one wants to see Ramsay having sex.
5. EVERYONE wants to see Yara giving a great speech.
6. She... ran from some dogs when she was burying her axe in dudes’ GUTS five seconds earlier? LAAAAAAME. Yes yes she also saw how fucked up in the head Theon was (more awards Alfie deserved and didn’t get), and she did want to lose any more people when he wasn’t willing to come but the way this was cut it reads like she was all OH NO DOGS which is the stupidest thing ever.
7. NOOOO POOR GOATS. I get that dragons have to eat though...
8. I cannot believe Dany didn’t take the time to FIND OUT WHICH MEEREENESE WERE LESS TERRIBLE. They would have been fucking allies. BUT NO LET’S JUST CRUCIFY PEOPLE WITH NO IDEA OF THE NUANCES OF THE LOCAL SITUATION. What stupidity.
9. At least she’s trying to learn??? She’s so small on that throne in a huge room. What a great shot.
10. Oberyn is a bisexual who CANNOT SIT IN A CHAIR NORMALLY. I am not complaining.
11. I cannot see the scene of Jaime and Tyrion walking down into the courtroom for the trial without giggling at the memory of the outtake where they dance like dorks into the room and down the aisle.
12. Jaime looking at Tyrion like YOU ARE NOT HELPING YOURSELF is a mood.
13. How did they get the poison necklace? Didn’t Littlefinger throw it in the Blackwater FAR off shore? A bit AFTER he killed Dontos? How does Pycelle have it here? Maybe they washed up together? Maybe D and D forgot Petyr tossed it in the bay? WHO KNOWS???
14. Jaime trying to convince Tywin one last time and offering to leave the kingsguard in exchange for Tyrion HOLY SHIT I FORGOT HE DID THAT. Cersei never would have spoken to him again if he’d left her and married and gone back to the Rock and given Tywin what he wanted. Jaime KNEW he was screwing over a relationship that means SO MUCH TO HIM but it’s TYRION’S LIFE we’re talking about here. That’s how much he loves his little brother.
15. Tywin is like DONE so fast Jaime barely gets the offer out lol
16. And it all would have worked if Shae hadn’t walked through those doors.
17. Do we know WHY Shae agreed to testify to this? What did Tywin offer her or threaten her with?
18. WHAT ARE YOU DOING LITTLE BRO WHY ARE YOU SAYING THIS?! is Jaime’s face all the time this scene.
19. Tyrion’s “confession”is such a piece of acting wow Peter enjoy your Emmys.
4x07
1. Jeez Tyrion didn’t know Jaime COULDN’T save him. He had no idea that losing his hand had affected his abilities that badly. That... hurts.
2. Arya, Sandor, and the dying farmer is such a great scene... And Arya only killing that asshole only after Sandor learns his name for her so she knows the name of the man she’s killing.... A++ would watch again.
3. Everyone LISTEN TO JON he has seen things none of you have.
4. Tyrion finding out Bronn has been bought is so very upsetting but I love this scene.
5. But really though once Tywin named The Mountain champion, anyone who Tyrion asks to be his champion at this point he’s basically asking to die.
6. Dany’s like “well I guess fucking Daario isn’t going to cause a political disaster at least.”
7. I had forgotten how fascinating Selyse and Melisandre’s interactions are.
8. IS THAT SETTING UP BURNING SHIREEN FUCK THAT.
9. Dany is capable of nuanced thought when it comes to innocence and guilt of whole groups of people and WE JUST SAW IT with how Jorah changes her mind and I’m JUST SO ANGRY.
10. That is the only time we get the story of Sandor and the fire from his own mouth and I did not mean to be this moved.
11. Hot Pie talking about food (oh yeah and Arya) is so precious. And now I want steak and kidney pie. With gravy.
12. “Using honest feelings to do dishonest work is one of her greatest talents.” The truest thing Tyrion has ever said about Cersei.
13. What a great snow castle. Too bad Joffrey part 2 knocked it down.
14. Ew ew ew Petyr kissing Sansa is so skeevy and gross.
15. “A great deal might change between now and never” is a great line though.
16. I hate Petyr but it’s good he pushed Lysa out the Moon Door before she killed Sansa.
4x08
1. Jon and Co all reminding Sam that Gilly is a survivor is so great. Brotherhood at its best.
2. Missandei and Grey Worm are young people with old souls and their relationship is precious to me.
3. Alfie is SO GOOD at showing how deeply Ramsay has him under his control even when he’s alone with the Ironborn.
4. Petyr is part Braavosi? Fascinating.
5. Sansa TOLD the Lords of Vale who she was??? Her testimony is such a good bit of acting on Sansa’s part. It’s a lie hidden in a lot of truth, and she was QUICK to think it through and come up with it.
6. Jorah telling Dany about the pardon is a scene that breaks my heart. 💔 She is HARSH here but I love the full blown Targaryen on display.
7. Roose being like TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE like the Lion King cracks me up so hard.
8. I will never give Ramsay the Bolton name in anything I write as long as I am a fan of this show out of pure hatred. He is Ramsay Snow forever and always.
9. I remember I was so worried that they were going to have Petyr try to sexually assault Sansa. OH I WAS A SWEET SUMMER CHILD.
10. Arya laughing at the news of Lady Arryn’s Death is an immensely human reaction and I love that she just CANNOT STOP.
11. I know people hated that scene with Jaime and Tyrion talking about beetles but I have two takeaways: first, a septon tried to touch Jaime once???? Headcanon: Little Jaime looked that septon dead in the eye and said “my father wouldn’t like that” and it never happened again. The septon was summarily replaced. Second: Jaime has never thought about ANYTHING in his whole life as deeply as baby Tyrion thought about beetles.
12. Oberyn is so fun to watch fight and Jaime agrees with me.
13. You don’t need him to confess Oberyn really you don’t you GOT HIM my beautiful prince.
14. How did the Gods make their will known if BOTH champions killed each other dead, huh Tywin? (The Mountain is... less Dead?)
4x09
1. Sam mulling over the legalistic interpretation of their vows and Jon trying to explain what sex and love are like are both SO CUTE.
2. I love that everyone around that fire has heard the “Tormund fucked a bear” story and I’m kind of sorry Ygritte didn’t let him finish.
3. Maester Aemon revealing his Targaryen identity was lovely. Also Sam Cussing to get Gilly in the gate= AMAZING
4. Alliser Thorne ADMITTING HE WAS WRONG? I am dead of shock.
5. Sam and Pyp talking about fear and bravery is... so darling.
6. They have A GIANT RIDING A MAMMOTH and I will forgive a small amount of nonsense for giving me that image.
7. See Alliser looking at the horn blower like REALLY? IN THE FUCKING MIDDLE OF MY SPEECH? Before they realize it’s the horn at Castle Black is PRICELESS.
8. Speaking of which I may not like Alliser but he gives a good “let’s not die” speech.
9. Bless Grenn for getting Janos Slynt off the wall.
10. Pyp dying in Sam’s arms was not something I was ready for.
11. You’ve heard of horsepower... now get ready for MAMMOTH POWER (wildling used mammoth salesmen probably)
12. Sam remembering that being NICE to Olly when asking to go up the wall rather than just screaming at him is... telling.
13. Grenn is THE BEST KID AND I LOVE HIM
14. Ghost is going to EAT SOME WILDLINGS
15. Ygritte :...(
16. How is Tormund even ALIVE??? He’s like a frickin PIN CUSHION.
17. “They held the gate” is a line that will make me cry now. Grenn and co. Didn’t let that giant through :...(
3x10: back when D and D remembered the Children existed that one time
Also back when Jaime had a plan that didn’t end with ANY OF HIS FAMILY KILLING EACH OTHER BUT TYWIN ENDS UP DEAD ANYWAY WHY ARE WE LIKE THIS.
1. Jon deciding single-handedly that he’s going to KILL Mance Rayder. Boss move.
2. Oh FFS. Pull the stick out of your ass Stannis and let Mance be.
3. Qyburn is like “out of my way bitch I’m doing necromancy”
4. Cersei telling Tywin the truth to get out of Marrying Loras is... still... making my jaw drop and I KNEW SHE WAS GOING TO DO IT. And there’s ACTUAL EMOTION on Tywin’s face and EVERYTHING SHE SAYS ABOUT PAYING SOME REAL FUCKING ATTENTION TO HIS FAMILY IS TRUE
5. Ah yes “Jaime writes his family’s dialogue” part one. I CHOOSE YOU OMG AND SEX IN THE LORD COMMANDER’S OFFICE I CANNOT BELIEVE WE GOT THAT. Even if I’m still on the fence about whether Jaime would be ok with doing it THERE I’m mostly on board because she JUST TOLD DAD THE TRUTH AND TOLD HIM HE WAS THE ONE SHE WANTED AND I DON’T KNOW WHO LET THE SHIPPERS WRITE THIS SCENE BUT YAY.
6. Dany is still learning all kinds of nuance... I feel like the year contract thing was an attempt to balance her need to be a liberator and the reality on the ground?
7. You are telling me that the Dany who was that upset at Drogon eating ONE child let him burn a WHOLE CITY? I call bullshit.
8. Also this is a CLASSIC example of “one sibling does something wrong and the other two get punished for it” poor Viserion and Rhaegal.
9. Maester Aemon knows how to give a mass eulogy.
10. MEANWHILE NORTH OF THE NORTH HI BRAN meet the hugest weirwood in Westeros AND SOME ICE ZOMBIES
11. POOR MEERA I FORGOT SHE HAD TO HELP JOJEN DIE
12. If the children can do that WHERE ARE THEY LATER
13. holy shit bloodraven is creepy
14. Arya and Brienne meeting :) so cute
15. And Sandor being like YOU ARE TOO NAIVE TO PROTECT HER is cute in its own way.
16. Wow Brienne and Sandor really knock the shit out of each other how are they still alive.
17. Sandor saying awful things to Arya to make it easier for her to kill him was tragic and you can see the desperation in his eyes even as he says the worst of it.
18. JAIME LANNISTER MAKES DECISIONS HE WILL REGRET LATER LIKE NOT GOING ALL OF THE WAY TO THE BOAT WITH TYRION
19. I Had forgotten how rough that last conversation between Tywin and Tyrion was and how devastating those performances are.
20. Varys being like oh fuck those bells I’m going too... prescient.
21. Love the music with Arya on the ship to Braavos!

WWE Smackdown Live 7/16/19 Review
Before the show started, Shane talked to Kevin Owens about how he is having a smackdown Town Hall to talk about people’s grievances. However, despite having that, he said that Kevin Owens has the night off because of his insubordination. Security was right there, but Owens did not attack. He walked out, and then we started with the Town Hall meeting.
So, oddly enough, this stupid meeting was the debut of Buddy Murphy. He was just standing around with the rest of the cast. Others that I noticed that are almost never on TV include Liv Morgan, Asuka, Kairi Sane, AOP, Ali, Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable.
Shane could hardly get a word out over the crowds insistent booing, but he eventually just asked who wanted to go first. Roman Reigns came out and said that no one respects Shane, and told him to kick his ass. Since he was disrespectful, Shane fined Reigns, and then asked for Charlotte Flair to talk. Charlotte just said that she was grateful to the McMahon family for all they have done for her, because she deserves it. As Charlotte was talking, Liv Morgan actually got on the mic and called Charlotte a phony, prompting Charlotte to ask who she was and if she actually works on Smackdown. Ouch. Morgan then started to say because of people like her, they don’t get enough opportunity, but Shane cut her off. Shane then welcomed Buddy Murphy to the mic, and Murphy said that he doesn’t Owens help, and would be happy to fight Owens if he kept mentioning his name. Cool, so Murphy loses his first match. Shane was happy to say that Murphy will be getting a match soon, and then welcomed Apollo Crews to the mic. Crews said that everyone agreed with what Owens said, but Zelina Vega interrupted and called him a coward, and challenged him to a match with Andrade for later in the night. Elias then interrupted everyone with a guitar strum, but he was quickly interrupted from the New Day, who called him a jackass. Kingston then said that Owens made some good points, and that the people on the stage were not getting enough opportunities. Shane then cut off Kingston’s mic and then concluded the town hall meeting. However, Cesaro then came out, and requested a rematch with Aleister Black. Shane granted it, and I was happy with that. But as Shane was about to leave, Kevin Owens showed up and nailed a slightly wonky stunner to leave Shane laying there.
Grade: C+. Not the greatest segment in the world, unless they are actually going to change something. It set up quite a bit of the show though, so it was certainly a productive segment. I don’t know how self aware WWE is, but if they are willing to acknowledge their problems, then they should be willing to solve them too. Give this a slightly negative grade because I am skeptical, but it could be a step in the right direction, maybe. And that is a big maybe. I think it is super clear that Owens vs. Shane is happening at Summerslam too, so thats nice.
We went right into that rematch, Cesaro vs. Aleister Black. Black destroyed Cesaro with kicks early on, sending him to the outside. The match was much shorter than their pay per view match, but Black nailed Cesaro with a high knee and then a black mass that sent Cesaro’s mouthpiece out of his mouth. Nice visual.
Grade: B-. Harmless extended squash. Black should be getting over soon.
Backstage, Dolph Ziggler talked to Shane about having a match with Owens. Shane was apprehensive, but Ziggler said that they both were hit with stunners recently, and Owens needed to pay for that. Shane said that he would do it, if Ziggler could get Owens to compete.
The then showed Daniel Bryan being absolutely pissed off about losing his Tag Team Championship, saying that if he wants to change the world, he has to aim higher than he ever has before. He looked crazy, it was really cool. I wonder where this is leading him.
Then we went into Charlotte Flair vs. Liv Morgan. Morgan was showing off some of her offense, including a nice double foot stomp to the back of the head which looked brutal. However, she was mostly a sacrificial lamb. Charlotte nailed a huge powerbomb, and then tapped her out with the figure eight in under five minutes.
After the match, Morgan stole Graves headset and said that Charlotte was right when she called Morgan fake, so when she comes back she will be real. How fun, but I like her gimmick, so this may suck.
Grade: B-. Another extended squash that was fine. Nice to see Morgan back, and Charlotte too. I don’t know where this story with Morgan will go, probably a simple gimmick change, but I don’t know what it will be.
Then we had Fire and Desire vs. Ember Moon and a mystery partner. Her mystery partner ended up being Bayley. Right at the bell the heels attacked quickly, taking Moon off the apron and then beating down Bayley. However, the faces quickly got the advantage and started to beat down the heels. Ember went up for the Eclipse on Mandy Rose, and Sonya Devlle ran in to attack her. Bayley caught Deville with the Bayley to Belly, and Moon hit Rose with the Eclipse.
After the match, Bayley was interviewed about who her next challenger will be. She wanted someone who deserved the belt and someone who she never fought before. She then looked at Ember, who accepted the challenge.
Grade: B. Another match that wasn’t much of anything, but that announcement after the match definitely bumped it up. Moon deserves this, she is a great wrestler, and she did just win a match against some of the top women in the division. I hope she gets some wins on TV leading up to it to establish her as a more legit competitor to the rest of the fans. Should be a great match, and one that I have wanted for a long time.
Backstage, Shinsuke Nakamura was interviewed about winning the Intercontinental Championship, and Ali walked up to congratulate him, and then ominously walk away. I would so be into that.
Then we had the New Day come out, with all their gold. They put themselves over for both defending the WWE Championship, and winning the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. They then said that they are willing to accept Daniel Bryan and Rowans tag team rematch for right now. Bryan and Rowan came out, but they walked backstage. And then they came back out, but Bryan seemed oddly out of it and refused to speak, and went back. He came out one more time, looking absolutely pissed at the pro New Day crowd. He then dropped his mic and left for good. However, Samoa Joe then came out, and said that as long as the New Day is giving out title shots, Kingston should too. Elias then came out, and asked for a title shot of his own. Randy Orton came out to ask for the same. Elias pointed out that they can’t all have championship matches tonight, and suggested a 6-man tag. The New Day accepted, but Randy Orton wasn’t into it. Until Kingston insulted him for not wanting to fight.
That 6-man tag was next, New Day vs. Orton, Elias and Joe. The new day showed off their 6-man tag team prowess, before the heels bent the rules a bit to get control. Woods was beaten down a bit, but eventually hit a huge missile dropkick to get back in the ring, and gave Kingston a hot tag. Kofi hit a crossbody on Orton, only for Elias to break it up. Big E then gave Elias a belly to belly, only to eat a lariat from Joe, only for Woods to attack Joe. He fought him a little bit, before low bridging Joe and hitting a tope con hilo. Woods was going to get back in the ring, but Joe pulled him off the apron and into a coquina clutch. Big E tried to break it up, but ran right into a high knee from Elias. Elias then ran in the ring and ate a trouble in paradise to the kidney from Kingston, but Kingston then ate an RKO for the win from the heels.
Grade: B. Pretty good match, definitely picked up in the end there. It gave Joe some of his momentum back, and made Elias look good too. Orton was the next logical challenger, and although I am not usually a fan of champions losing, at times like this it makes sense. I need this feud, and although I think Kofi should drop the championship soon, it shouldn’t be to Orton. We will see though, I may change my mind. This was the match of the night.
Backstage, R-Truth was hiding in a broken washing machine, and Carmella had to help him get out of it. She then suggested that they go to Comicon. That will be fun. I can’t wait.
Then we had a match for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. The Kabuki Warriors vs. The IIconics, Asuka and Kairi Sane vs. Peyton Royce and Billie Cay. The Kabuki warriors started out with some high speed offense, only for the heels to slow it down a bit. Asuka knocked Cay out of the ring, and the IIconics opted for a count out loss to retain.
After the match, the faces beat the crap out of the heels. And stood tall.
Grade: D-. Why the hell do they still have those belts? I don’t want them to lose them at summerslam, because the IIconics do not deserve to have a Summerslam match. They aren’t good enough. The Kabuki Warriors should win on TV sooner rather than later. The only reason that this isn’t an F is because Asuka and Sane showed some really good stuff before the bullshit ending.
Then we had Apollo Crews vs. Andrade. Andrade attacked as Crews got in the ring. Right when the bell rang, Andrade attacked again with some stiff knees and kicks. Andrade nailed the double knees in the corner, but Crews reversed a pinfall into a crucifix for the win.
Grade: B-. Jeez, are any of these matches going to be legit? Again, a harmless short match, but there are a lot of these this episode.
And in the main event, we have Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler. Owens went for the stunner right away, but Ziggler was able to avoid it by rolling out, so Owens nailed him with a Tope con hilo. Owens did not stop there, hitting two swanton bombs throughout the match, but only near falls. After the second swanton, Shane came out with the entirety of the heel lockerroom. They surrounded the ring, and as Owens yelled at Shane, Ziggler nailed a zig zag for a close near fall. Owens continued the match, with dodging a superkick and nailing Ziggler with a stunner. Shane pulled him out of the ring, only to eat his second stunner of the night. The heels then chased Owens out of the arena, and presumably lost by countout.
Shane then was interviewed about Owens, and said that he could definitely pay.
Grade: C. A pretty meh main event that didn’t even really have a winner. The feud with Shane is not being built up in the best way that it could be, but it is still kinda entertaining. The match was alright, but not particularly need to see. Should be an interesting Smackdown next week.
Overall Grade: C+

In defense of the Battle Academy skin choices:
So, in wake of the wake of the new Battle Academy skins dropping I’ve seen a LOT of people getting mad about things like Lux and Ezreal getting more skins, their favorite champs not being in the skin-line, stuff like that. For the most part those complaints are all valid, I understand them, but I do think it’s not fair to get mad at riot for this specifically because a lot of their choices make a lot sense and the ones that don’t are really small, so, I’m just gonna...go over the list and state my two cents.
All the complaints basically stem from “these champions shouldn’t have more skins, it should have been somebody like Taliyah” this is probably the most widespread complaint, and whilst its true, neither need new skins, it’s totally understandable why they got them. First: Since Ezreal got reworked, he was always going to be getting a new epic or better skin soon-ish, without question. Every champion thats been reworked in the past 2 years got a skin some time after their rework, this isn’t a new practice, the day the rework got announced I stated that Ezreal would be getting a new skin soon because of it, then when Riot said they were making a skin-line inspired by Shonen anime I said “without question, Ezreal will probably get a legendary skin in this skinline and be the focal point of it.” To a multitude of people, Riot are on record as saying Ezreal was DESIGNED around Shonen anime tropes from the beginning, there are lots of ‘anime’ characters in League, like Yasuo and, yeah, Lux (we’ll get to that) but for what riot were actually trying to DO with this skin line? It was always going to be Ezreal, there was never any doubt in my mind. I know a lot of people think Pajama guardian counts as his skin but...no, it really doesn’t, its basically just a chroma, thats why it’s half price if you already OWN Star Guardian, so it doesn’t count. Second: Keeping in mind Ezreal was going to be the focal point of this skinline inspired by ANIME, all the characters around him needed to fit into anime tropes, because recently for their big ‘alternate universe’ skins Riot have been focusing more on a whole narrative to go with them rather than ‘oh this would be cool’, so they had more of a plan for the champs they picked keeping in mind Ezreal is the ‘protagonist’ (because he totally is). The ones Riot went for were: Rugged teacher who cares about his students but isn’t super affectionate (Graves) Popular kid who is a best friend/elder sibling figure to the protagonist (Jayce) Principle who is a parental figure to the protagonist after some event in their past (Yuumi) Small scale antagonist who will later go on to be an anti-hero then full hero designed to be a prominent threat in early arcs to help establish characters (Katarina) And of course, the love interest (Lux) Keeping that in mind, Lux wasn’t just on the table for this skinline, she was GUARANTEED to be in it. Say what you want about EzLux, I personally am not that into it, but the fact is that riot like it, so much so that they outright made it canon in this universe, you can have your ships, you can like LuxJinx, you can Like EzSona, or whatever, but as far as riot are concerned , Lux and Ezreal are Riots golden couple (with Xayah and Rakan), they’ve been one of two pairings they EVER acknowledge in canon for basically their entire life span, and they do it BLATANTLY. It’s not surprising at all this happened. Third: The Narrative is actually pretty relevant to the choices they made here, and the big one that I think totally invalidates Taliyah as even a possibility is that this is a school of WEAPON users. All of the champions they picked have weapons of some kind and Ezreal states in his voicelines that they all use ‘god-weapons’ AKA the narrative of this skin-line is entirely centered around those weapons as of the moment, so that means EVERY champion who isn’t a weapon user were never eligible from the start. Would champions like Taliyah suit this skinline conceptually? 200%, I’d love to see it for the next batch if they make more and change up a few things lore wise, but given the fact they clearly have an overarching plot and concept behind this school at foundation level? she just doesn’t really work right now. Sorry.
Fourth: Okay real talk Riot dropping champs that don’t need skins into new skinlines isn’t new and never has been thats just smart business. Lets say they put all these resources towards making SIX new skins, with a whole new universe to accompany them, with no guarantee it’ll be popular, and decide to put champions that need new skins in there EXCLUSIVELY. Then, the new skinline drops on the main server and nobody likes them and they’ve wasted their time. The fact is for as long as I can remember, when Riot launch a new skinline they ALWAYS make sure at least 50% of the champions in it are the POPULAR ones they know will bring in profit regardless of if people like the skinline as a whole, This time it was Ez Lux and Kat, K/DA had Ahri and Kai’sa, Oddyssey had Jinx Yas Sona and kind of Kayn, Star guardians did it TWICE with Lux and Jinx (releasing at different times admittedly) then they did it a SECOND TIME with Ezreal and Ahri, its not until the second batch where they go for more out there less popular champions and thats been their business practice with stuff like this for as long as I can remember. I get why people are complaining but the fact is if it wasnt these champs? it still would have been 50% champs who don’t need it like Yi Fifth: The fact is that a lot the champions picked , as usual with large skinline drops like this, all fill a different role, thats pretty normal Ez: ADC Lux: Mage Mid/Supp Kat: Assasin Mid Graves: Jungler Jayce: Top Yumi: Support If we push Yumi to the side for a second, each champ fulfills one role in a game each. Riot for a while now have been making it so if a new Champ releases with a new skin line beside them, or an update to said skin line, they make that new champs on release skin part of said skin line for convenience sake, so we can probably assume that the inital skin choices were made not counting Yumi who might not even have been RELEASED by that point if she wasn’t done yet, and if she was done she’d be added. So it was probably a an intentional choice to make sure they didn’t overlap in roles until Yumi came out in which case Lux and Kat could probably overlap. With that said, and keeping in mind the aforementioned NARRATIVE role they were meant to fulfill, the pool becomes a lot smaller. The big one here being Graves, because he’s the one I haven’t fully accepted myself, I normally say Riot don’t like releasing multiple skins within a year for the same champion unless they were already making one when the worlds winners said they wanted another, thats the only acception, but along comes Graves like “second skin in 6 months baybee” which is kinda weird, so keeping that in mind, I did some research to find every jungler (cos this needed to be a jungler) who was also going to be able to fit into the rugged not nice but still cares teacher role they still had open, who ALSO had a weapon. (For reference here I mean actual jungle picks not your random off meta pick, I’m looking at you jungle Lucian, you don’t count). Not even COUNTING the fact they also had to fit into the character _archetype_ they still had open, do you know how many choices there actually were? 7 Max, and thats if you count Pantheon and Diana which not everybody does. The full list of choices with the role they still had open was Graves, Jarvan, Jax, Pantheon (?) Diana (?) , Vi or Xin, when you take into account that they also had to come off as a bit more rugged, old enough to be a teacher, and serious and not in a nice way, its down to Graves and MAYBE Jax. This is one I’M still on the fence about, but with context I think that it being Graves isn’t...overwhelmingly shocking. Kat is much more open and close, the roster for midlane assassins is pretty big so they just went with Kat cos out of all the assassin mids who was a WOMAN she’d waited the longest for a new skin (that yeah, she doesn’t need) and they just went with her so there was an even amount of representation between men and women in the skin line...that’s kind of it really. So, anyway that’s my two cents, I get that people will always be mad when champions like Ez and Lux and Kat get new skins, if it weren’t for the fact Ezreal is my favorite champion and shonen anime is like my favorite thing I’d probably be a little bit mad to but, as ALWAYS happens with new skinlines, the people who got skins for their mains will always have bias but I hope this didn’t come off as to apologetic? I really do hope that if these skins continue champions like Kayn Ekko and Taliyah and hell maybe Zoe get a chance to shine in it, but as it is now I find it really hard to really get mad about who they picked.

Knock, Knock, The Revolutions Coming
1. Respond to these quotes by Greta Thunberg; choose at least 3 of them to discuss and provide context for their appearance in the film. (1-2paragraphs)
"Why would I need an education if there is no future?"
This quote was right at the beginning of the film when the camera followed her on the school strike in front of the parliament building. A woman came up to her and said that she should be in school, and Greta responded with this quote. I mean, anyone can argue anything in the world, but I find it hard to argue with this. Why would we need an education if there is no future? What is the point? Why would I prepare for a life I will not be able to live because the climate is going to destroy everything I hope for?
"Once the climate crisis has gotten your attention, then you can't look away."
This is that movie moment when the villain tells you something, and then you can’t unsee it. The climate crisis is everywhere around us, and once we notice it is hard to ignore. I am completely aware of how much waste I produce, and am constantly trying to reduce it. I am aware of everything around me, and doing my best on an individual level to be part of the solution. Just like in the movies, it’s hard to ignore the big red button that has the potential to destroy the world.
"The eyes of all future generations are on you. Change is coming whether you like it or not."
Greta has so many stand alone, booming quotes. She says what she feels and isn’t afraid of the consequences. Any time I watch the news, all I think is “god I wish I could just scream at those people and say ‘look how stupid you look.’ Greta does that, in a more effective way, but she says what these politicians need to hear. Whether they decide to listen or not. This is a crisis that has never been dealt with before, we don’t have a road map. However, if these people in power, who have the choice to spark action and fix the problem don’t do that, everyone will be watching. Never underestimate the power of the public, change will happen whether the people on the top like it or not.
2. Does the "I Am Greta" documentary provide a portrait of the teenage activist that evokes humanizing empathy? Provide some specific, detailed examples.
I think this documentary absolutely provides a portrait of Greta that evokes empathy. The entire state of this world is falling upon the shoulders of a 17 year old girl. Not just a state, or a country, or a continent, the world. There are a lot of issues with how the media portrays her, and how the public views Greta as this young girl who was somehow chosen to be the star of the show. Whereas this documentary gives light that she is the one choosing to do this because no one else is. When she was on the boat talking into her phone saying how she doesn’t know if she can continue because it’s a lot of responsibility; I was crying because I just wanted to hug her. There is an immense sense of responsibility she feels, and no one is listening. The film shows her going to the conferences, and big climate initiatives, meetings with world leaders and thats all we see because no real change has been done by these people she’s met with. That’s not on her. This film allows us to see to cement wall she is pushing up against, and all we want to do is push with her.
3. What did the film reveal to you that was new information about Greta, her family, her upbringing, and the role her parents play in supporting her? (a thoughtful paragraph)
I have never seen any photos of her parents, until viewing this film. Truthfully I forgot they existed. There was one point in the film where Greta was reading a nasty article about herself, and it said that her parents were exploiting her. I think that is the complete opposite, and not true. Her parents are doing nothing but supporting, and doing their best to protect their child. Given that is what the film made it look like. It’s quite amazing the support her parents have given her in that they have also completely changed their lifestyle. They drive an electric car, they eat consciously, they strike with her. They very clearly do this together.
Also, I was very curious about how much money she makes from all of this. I was surprised but not shocked that she doesn’t except money from her activism. Her net worth is guessed somewhere around 1 million but no one really knows. All money she would have received from this film, or anyone in connection with her, went to her foundation or donated to other organizations for climate change. I think this is extremely important to note about her and her family.
4. What new facts did you learn about climate change? (1 paragraph)
This was definitely mentioned at one point, and throughout the film, but climate change doesn’t just apply to the climate itself. The crisis in totality effects everything. The job market, the economy, family income, wealth, etc. I could go on and on about how much this issue effects everyone and everything. When I originally read the Green New Deal, I was surprised to find that a majority of the legislative was not necessarily about climate change, it dealt a lot more with economic equity in underprivileged communities. The climate crisis is a crisis with a ticking time bomb. The issue is that the 1% of people who hold the wealth in our world don’t want to do anything about it, because it’s expensive and ambitious. However, like Greta says, if they fail us we will never forgive them.
5. Greta began Strike for Climate in 2018. By September 2019, she arrived in New York for the global Youth Climate Strike. 7 million participated around the world, making it the largest climate strike in history. Were you aware of how quickly the Fridays for Future and Climate Strike movement grew? How and why do you think this movement took off like wildfire among international youth? (1 paragraph)
Truthfully, I haven’t heard of the term Fridays for Future but I am very aware of the Climate Strike movement, and climate change activism. I have a lot to say, both good and bad about youth activism. First off, the older generation acts as if youth activism is a new thing now regarding climate change. When in fact, young people are usually the ones fighting. I feel like every generation has their fight, and climate change is a part of my generations fight. So many times we hear “this is for the children”or “we are leaving the world to the future children” but so often those are just words the older generations speak, they do not mean it. There is such a massive issue with older politicians saying that young people don’t have a place yet, when they are making policy that very much effects us. Especially now, in the US political climate, the older generation is not preparing younger people to lead. However, that doesn’t stop us from making our own seat at the table.
I think this movement became so popular so fast, because there is limited time to fix this issue. No one was listening. I also think because we are so tech savvy that technology and social media played a huge role in campaigning, and spreading information to everyone as fast as possible.
6. Who were some of the first celebrities to champion Greta's cause? How did you first become aware of the Fridays for Future movement? (1 paragraph)
There are a lot of top names in Hollywood who have come out in support of Greta, and the call for change in regards to climate change. People like Anne Hathaway, Pryinka Chopra, Leonardo DiCaprio, and even Bebe Rehxa dedicated a song to Greta. The more people you have shouting from the mountain tops, the easier it will be to hear them from far away.
7. What is the Paris Agreement? Why are we so far from meeting its goals? (1 paragraph)
The Paris Agreement is an international treaty, binding countries to take initiatives to limit global warming. These plans are extremely ambitious, as that is the language they have chosen to use, because steps like these have never been done before. We are very far from meeting our goals, specifically in the United States because Donald Trump ending up leaving the Paris Agreement as soon as he got to office. However, you cannot simply just walk out the front door. The process of leaving was a bit complicated because the agreement had to be in effect for 3 years. I believe that in 2019 the US officially left. However, President Biden has signed an Executive Order rejoining the Paris Agreement. Treaties and legislation need to be made and signed into action. We have become a country of reaction, instead of preemptive action. Issues like climate change need preemptive action. It will be too late if we choose to react to the problem, instead of trying to get ahead of it.
8. How is Greta handling her newfound celebrityhood? What does the film reveal about her personal challenges? (1 paragraph)
I don’t think anyone knows how to prepare for being in the spotlight. Let alone a highly political spotlight at such a young age. What I like about Greta is that she doesn’t care about celebrityhood, or how many likes she gets on instagram, or what clothes she wears. She is doing this because she cares, and is using the platform she has earned. Yes, she has Aspergers, but that is just a part of her. It doesn’t control her. When a reporter asked a question and he said that she suffers from Aspergers, she replied that she has it but doesn’t suffer from it. It doesn’t define her, but it is used against her by grummy old men who don’t agree with her. Of course it is difficult for her to be pushed into extreme social situations, and I couldn’t even fathom what is going on in her mind during those times. But. she knows it is for a greater good. I think it would be silly to say that any person anywhere in any position of celebrity hood doesn’t deal with personal challenges.
It’s also important to note the issues of ageism, and gender she faces as well. So often these politicians are old men and women, so why would anyone want to listen to a young girl. It is shocking to hear her speak because one doesn’t expect to hear such eloquence and knowledge from a young woman. I think of that saying, “Children should be seen and not heard” even within that saying ‘children’ is often switched out with ‘women’ as well. She has two very harsh distinct challenges going up against her.
9. Why do you think so many teenage girls are taking the helm on climate change? (1 paragraph)
I don’t think it’s just climate change, I think young women are and have taken on many issues in the past and present. Where would we be without women, women who advocate and aren’t afraid to speak their minds. All I can say is that men have had their time, and continue to do nothing about it. There is something about powerful women, young and old, coming together and speaking their minds, saying what needs to be said in order to achieve a difference.
10. What was your takeaway from the footage on the solar powered Catamaran of Greta's trip across the Atlantic? Did you follow her voyage in real time on the trip tracker? (1 paragraph)
I was getting sea sick just watching the footage from the boat. Like Greta said, she doesn’t want to be a person who says one thing and then does another. She is consistent and persistent. Anyone would have thought if they were to speak at the UN in New York to just fly across the world, but no. She chose to stick her ground and prove a point. Even if it is a little inconvenient, it’s doable. We can all make changes and sacrifices, but ultimately met our goals.
11. Did you participate in the Global Youth Climate Strike on Sept 11th 2019? What was your experience? (1 paragraph)
Unfortunately I did not participate. For some reason I can’t remember where I was or what I was doing on this day, However, if I had known I more than likely would have been there.

XPWEW Friday Night Pyro (3-27-2020)
Friday Night Pyro Episode #419 March 27th, 2020 Los Angeles, California The Barracks
Show Intro
Commentary: Kaitlyn Khaos & Nick Simmonds
Opening Segment: Champagne Clausen comes down dapperly dressed. Champagne: “It was last January at Guilty as Charged I was in the midst of the most dominant world title run in this promotion. And I warned the All Man not to metal in that and what did he do..he did. I told him then that “consequences will never be the same!” And it took this long, whether it was our bean-headed general manger Romeo Roselli who told me I couldn’t challenge for the title as long as he was champion well then just like I thought and just like everyone else All Man proved he was indeed “just a TRANSITIONAL champion” and now here we stand. 2 days! 2 days! I get my hands on that rat and I get my hands on that smiling, that fake, that fraud, that snake in sheep’s clothing Golden Bryce. I get my hands on both of them. I don’t gotta pin em, I don’t gotta knock them out, I don’t even have to snap their leg in half. ALL I HAVE TO DO is hit one move. Three times. In the blink of a second, in the pop of a cork I can be world champion again
Freight Train enters Train: “I think you might have a bad memory Curtis cause I remember it was only 6 or 7 days ago in this building you pushed my friend. You hit your daddy. You did a bad thang. Well you know what you might have just pissed me of. I took Troy off the medicines and Sunday he’s gonna have a lot to say so you better cover your hind-end or say I’m sorry cause I bet he’s real mad Champagne: Huh...haha Do they call you Freight Train because your the size of a train or do they call you Freight Train because your mind tends to slip off of the tracks. Because NEWS FLASH idiot! He’s a vegetable! He has no memory, no frame of reference since Halloween! Y’know the one with candy! Bring em out! I’m sure he’ll come out here and tell nobody in the crowd that he’s the best, we’ll I’ll say this if he does anything again to impede MY SPOTLIGHT. I’m gonna do more than sedate him. I’ll sedate him permanently and you can whisper that to that human bag of meat. So why don’t you go do that
Freight Train slumps his shoulders and leaves he keeps looking back sadly
Champagne: LEAVE!
All Man, All Woman & Scott Steiner enter
Steiner : Your daddy issues are nobody’s concern your moron. Nobody gives a damn about your carrot cake brain daddy ok all people wanna see is THE POPPA BACK ON PYRO! LOOK AT THE LARGEST ARMS IN THE WORLD
2 weeks ago! I got checked into the hospital and I looked the grim reaper right in his beetie eyes and told him I ain’t leaving until the ALL MAN wins the title 2 times! 2 times!
All Man: 2 times! 2 times!
Champagne: that’s cute, I’m looking to do what neither of you have done. Win that title a second time myself, All Man really? Let’s recall your title reign, you beat me after I had a hard fought match, you beat me with a low battery okay and then you defended it at Flirting With Disaster and Golden Bryce beat you in 8 minutes and let’s see Scott I’ll use your math here.
Steiner: HEY THATS MY GIMMICK! GIVE IT BACK! GIVE IT BACK TO ME!
Golden Bryce enters with the TITLE
Golden Bryce: I feel like I’m watching Step Brothers right now lol both of you sound the same. Complaining. Not doing. I MEAN GUYS! 48 hours! 3 finishers. ZERO FANS! Oh wait sorry Tenille, I respect women!! Scott! glad to see you’ve made a 100% recovery
Steiner: SHUT UP GOLDYLOCKS
Bryce: corpses tries not to laugh
Steiner: Listen up!
All Woman: Scott Steiner!, This Sunday it’s going to be a 3 Way Dance for the XPWEW World Title at Blitzkrieg between All Man, Champagne Clausen and Golden Bryce! What’s your opinion on the upcoming bout?
Steiner: **You know they say that ALL MEN are created equal but you look at the ALL MAN and you look at Champagne Clausen and you can see that statement is not true. See normally if you go 1 on 1 with the another wrestler you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But All Man is ALL IN and he’s not normal. So you got a 25% chance AT BEST of beating All Man at Blitzkrieg! Then you add GOLDYLOCKS to the mix! Your chances drastic go UP! Because he can’t win a big main event match to save him life and he ain’t even gonna try! See the 3 way at Blitzkrieg. You got a 33 1/3rd chance of winning, but All Man! All Man has got a 66% and 2/3rd’s chance of winning!
Senior Champagne! The numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster for you at Blitzkrieg!
Kaitlyn Khaos: “I’ve just gotten word from General Manger Romeo Roselli that tonight! The world champion Golden Bryce will go 1 on 1 with Champagne Clausen and All Woman will act as the special guest referee. That’s gonna be interesting and that is tonight’s main event!”

Cairoli Claims his 9th World Title as Herlings and Prado take Dutch wins
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
One of the most competitive seasons of the FIM Motocross World Championship’s history took to Assen for the MXGP of the Netherlands in what was the penultimate round today. Topping the weekend’s racing in their respective classes were Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings and his young teammate Jorge Prado Garcia. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team’s success didn’t end there as the ultimate goal of the 2017 FIM World Motocross Championship was achieved by none other the now 9 time Motocross World Champion Antonio Cairoli.
To add to the excitement of a MXGP and MX2 title chase the Veterans of motocross together with the Women and Honda 150 European Championship took to the Assen circuit. The Veterans Motocross World Cup’s race one saw the #553 of Niko Kalatie lead every lap from start to finish but video evidence showed him jumping on waved yellow flags and he was in turn penalized ten positions. Inheriting the race win was the man who kept the pressure on Kalatie and ran second every lap, Martin Zerava. The only riders who made a pass in the top 5 were, the 2 time champion, Mats Nilsson and Ronny Van Hove when both passed Paul Woldendorp for fourth and fifth position. Meanwhile Christian Ravaglia finished in the same spot where he started which was third.
In race two Niko Kalatie had a point to prove after his first race penalty. Kalatie started the race in second behind Ravaglia but only took one lap to pass the Italian for the lead and eventually the race win. Race 1’s winner started the first lap in 8th but dropped to 13th on lap two. The Veteran never gave up though and came back to second on lap 10 of 13 surprising Serge Guidetty who had been in the position most of the race. The pair swapped positions lap after lap but in the end Guidetty took a hard fought 2nd as Zerava took third which was good enough for the overall win. The overall podium was completed by Nilsson and Kalatie.
MXGP Thousands of dutch motocross fans came to watch the MXGP world championship title chase between Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli and their fellow countryman Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings today, and they were witness to the best of both.
Herlings is well known as the fastest sand rider in the world and today he showed why. Race 1 started with a FOX Holeshot by Cairoli as he just edged out Team HRC’s Tim Gajser. Gajser almost slid out nearly taking Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre down but both managed to stay up right.
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Jeremy Van Horebeek was into 4th quickly as he passed Team HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev. Meanwhile Herlings spun on of the starting grid but he moved forward quickly though passing Febvre for 3rd on lap 3 and on lap 7 took 2nd from Gajser. By then Cairoli had a gap of around 7 seconds as Herlings pushed to catch the red plate holder.
Herlings and Cairoli eventually met making the fans come to life as the battled for the lead. Cairoli though he didn’t need to win was no push over as Herlings passed him Cairoli responded quickly. Further down the track Cairoli made a small mistake, jumping to the edge of the track, which let Herlings go by.
From that point Cairoli settled into second but kept Herlings honest the rest of the race. At the finish Herlings won but the celebrations began for Cairoli, his team and supporters as he claimed his 9th FIM Motocross World Championship.
Race 2 started without the likes of Gajser or Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle as both had hard crashes in Race 1 and were unable to finish. On the start Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl took the FOX Holeshot ahead of Van Horebeek, Febvre, Herlings, and his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing teammate Max Anstie, who finished third in race one. Herlings with an improved start moved to the on lap two making passes left and right.
Cairoli, with the pressure off of his shoulders, started in 6th but remained determined to win. Cairoli passed Anstie, Van Horebeek, and Febvre to get to third but a mistake caused him to tip over in the sand a lose the positions back.
The other dutch hero and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Glenn Coldenhoff took 6th in race 1 but was involved in a wild crash in the second corner of race 2 taking him to 15th place finish for 10th overall.
Max Nagl weathered the Cairoli storm and in turn finished second in the race and 5th overall. Herlings’ double victories took the overall and in the press conference he said: “I want to say thank you to all the fans who came out to support not just me but all the riders, all of us really appreciate it. It has been a good GP so far and I am very happy to get second in the championship, obviously it is a good end to the weekend after the start of my season. I really enjoyed my time racing not just because I won but because I felt that it was a good and a safe track for sure. I felt like the organization did a very good job and I think it was a positive turnout of people so hopefully we will comeback in the feature.”
Romain Febvre’s 5-3 gave him his second podium of the season with a second overall. Febvre in the press conference said: “I feel good, the first race I was third all the race and then I got passed by Max (Anstie) on the finish jump. I was disappointed and just wanted to have a strong second race which I did. I think that it was a good weekend, yesterday was not so good for me so I am happy with how I turned it around.”
Max Anstie also took his second podium of his rookie MXGP season with 3-5 finishes putting him on the third step of the podium. After the race Anstie stated: “Its always nice to be on the podium, myself and my team work really hard, I have to give it up to them. With my teammates we ride together and we train together a lot so we are trying to push the level and you have to because all these guys are really fast. It is great to be able race with them, I have a lot of respect for all the guys the top 15 are so fast in the MXGP class and its hard if you don’t get a good start. I think overall it has been pretty good we are solid. I feel good I just want to go faster thats all.”
Fourth overall but 2017 MXGP Champion, Antonio Cairoli started his season to many as an under dog. Many questioned if he was on his way out but his performances this season have shown nothing of the like. From the first race of the championship in Qatar to his amazing comeback at the MXGP of Trentino Cairoli defines what a champion is and after 8 prior Motocross World Championship this year may be the most impressive as he claimed it with three races still to go in 2017. Cairoli in the press conference said: “We didn’t start as a favorite for sure this year. I know what I work for and I know what it takes to have a solid and consistent championship so we made it and I am really happy about this. It was an amazing season, I think one of my best, it is amazing that I can still improve after 14, now 15 years in the world championship, I really am proud of this. I just want to enjoy this title, we had a very good weekend especially today…but I’m really happy because the championship is the most important thing for me. To take it here in Holland with all the fans it was very nice, the track was amazing even with the rain it still worked out and it was very technical, the organizers did a really good job so nothing could be better.”

MX2 While Cairoli claimed the MXGP title in the early stages of the day the MX2 class had its own championship hanging in the balance. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass and Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer have been fighting for the title against one another all season long. Today was neither a Jonass or Seewer show though, instead it was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado Garcia who took the win.
To start Race 1 Pauls Jonass lined up on the far outside of the starting gate due to his 19th gate pick. Jonass somehow worked a miraculous start and took the Fox Holeshot. Following Jonass closely was Prado and just like last year Prado wasn’t deterred by his teammate’s title hopes. Prado continually pushed Jonass, showing him a wheel time after time. Prado took the lead on lap 5 but he was only able to hold it until lap 7 when Jonass would again take the top spot.
Behind the KTM teammates were the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing duo of Thomas Covington and Conrad Mewse. Mewse showed previously unseen top 5 speed at one point even battling with and passing Covington. Mewse unfortunately would fall shortly after moving to third and instead finish 6th.
Jeremy Seewer started in 6th but struggled to move forward past an impressive ride from Jago Geerts. While Seewer struggled with Geerts, HSF Motorsport Team’s Calvin Vlaanderen took the 6th position from the title contender and went on to pass Geerts who later had a heavy crash. With the crashes of Geerts and Mewse, Seewer claimed 5th behind Jonass, Prado, Covington, and Vlaanderen.
MX2 race 2 kicked off with a Fox Holeshot from Conrad Mewse and Prado hot on his trail. Prado followed Mewse the first four laps before taking the Brits lead away. Jonass started the race around tenth and perhaps rode to cautious as he only made his way up to seventh by the finish.
Jeremy Seewer and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen started in 5th and 6th and both worked the way forward with Seewer leading the way to 2nd and 3rd. The race was also another strong performance from Vlaanderen as he started and finished fourth just ahead of his HSF Motorsport teammate Brian Bogers.
Prado managed to take his third overall win of his career and this season, two of which have come in the sand. Prado in the press conference: “It was good to get my second win on a sand track. I’ve learned a lot this year and I have to put it all together now to do better next year. The most important thing is to be consistent, as you see with Pauls. He is pretty much the fastest guy this year and it’s possible to learn a lot from him and use him as a reference. We didn’t train so much together this year because I was going to school! Now I’m looking forward to next weekend which should be a totally different kind of track.”
Pauls Jonass took the second spot on the podium and though he didn’t take the championship just yet he did gain slightly on Seewer who finish third overall. Jonass in the press conference stated: “For sure I wanted to win the title this weekend and after the first race it seemed to be possible but I didn’t get a good start in the second race and struggled on the first few laps. I had some close calls with riders next to me and took it carefully, maybe I was too cautious. I put pressure on myself and that was my problem in the second race. Saturday was very bad but I turned it around and got on the podium again. Now I have a 41 point lead but I will try not to look at that in the next race; as you saw with Tony today he took the holeshot and was pushing until the last laps to pass Jeffrey. I want to have the same approach next weekend.”
