A Golden Rebirth part 3

He could swear that there was a bookcase here just an hour ago, when he had left to go to the market, but the laptop was still on the bar. Who would nick a bookcase and leave a laptop?

Distracted, Ryan only noticed the bench press at the last second, just before bumping into it.

"WTF? What happened here? Since when do I own a bench press?"

His eyes then saw the telly.

"And is that a 4K 65in telly?"

Ryan saw an envelope being slided under the door so he went to pick it up. He opened the door but there was no one in the corridor. Turning the envelope he saw the name written on it.

Daniel Gold.

"Who the fuck is Daniel Gold?"

Ryan was sure that this was his appartement. After all, despite the difference, his key opened the door.

He decided to open the gold envelope and found a word, handwritten on a paper matching the envelope.

Ryan started reading it.

"Welcum 2 da Brotherhood, Daniel.

U've taken da 1st step n ur bruhz r lookin frwd 2 meet ya"

The signature was simple. A sober "Cap" in gold letters.

Ryan tossed the letter on the bar, and turned on the telly.

Strangely, the only channels available seem to be the sports one. He found one showing the replay of a game of Hurling.

"No way, Cork v. Galway 2005. What a great game!!!"

Ryan dropped his phone on the kitchen bar, picked up a beer from the fridge.

"Gold"

He cracked it open and downed half of the pint in one swig.

He regretted not buying more beer from that small stall at the market earlier. The lads selling it really understood the concept of marketing as they were all wearing a gold jersey.

Ryan had been amused and turned on looking at the lads as they reminded him of the stories he had read on Tumblr.

He finished the beer and grabbed another, wondering if the stall would still be there tomorrow on his way back from work.

He sat on the black leather couch with gold trimmings, not even noticing the couch had changed too.

Religious focused, he watched the game until he heard a knock on the door.

Keeping an eye on the telly, he went to open the door. Half surprised, he discovered one of the lads from the stall, standing in front of him.

"Hey bro! I was in the neighbourhood and I though you might fancy a few beers, while we watch a game?"

Hey Scott! Yeah bro, come in and make yourself at home!

Scott walked in, the light of the telly firing up the gold of his jersey. He sat on the couch and put the beers, his snus and vitamins on the table.

"Want some nicotine, bro? Or maybe some vitamins? Just be careful, these vitamins are strong and they will definitely make a new man of you".

WELL LADS, ITS FINALLY DONE. I FINALLY FINISHED THE PUERTO RICAN FLAG BLANKET

this blanket is a fucking behemoth. it almost entirely covers my full sized bed, and it comfortably covers my mom and my dad when they're sitting side by side.

it so succeeds in being cozy, and i'm so glad i chose the yarn i did. hobbii's bulk discount meant that i didn't spend as much in yarn as i could have (though i did still spend a lot, over $300 💀). amigo giga is rated as good to go in the washer, too, so that means i'm not terrified of the yarn getting damaged the first time it has to be washed.

the colors are so bright, too. even though it's not perfectly done, (i accidentally did 2 rows extra in one of the stripes and didn't notice it till last minute, and i definitely could have done a better job hiding the weaved ends,) i'm so proud of myself for buckling down and working so hard on it. and my mom loves it! and that's what matters. so, ending out this update post! here are some Numbers:

the blanket measures out to be a whopping 65in tall and 72in wide (or ~165cm x ~180.8cm for my international friends). i used 12.5 skeins of hobbii's amigo giga yarn in christmas red, 4.5 skeins of hobbii's amigo giga yarn in cobalt blue, and 7.5 skeins of hobbii's amigo giga yarn in white. i definitely overshot how much yarn i needed the second time i ordered, but i'm sure i'll find a use for the leftover yarn! i also wanna shout out the creator of the pattern i used, this Puerto Rican flag pattern can be done in single crochet or C2C, but when I realized the weight of my yarn wasn't just right for this project the pattern designer personally helped me over etsy dms and she is just such a total sweetheart. i HIGHLY recommend her patterns! she was the one who gave me the advice of making the blanket out of double crochets like a genius to hit gauge (though i did go overboard on my own accord). overall, i'm very proud of myself for getting it over and done with, and i'm excited to start on my next (less ambitious, definitely less huge) project!

The first liveblogging of the excitement of The Box TM was getting out of control so I'm making a new post and sharing a new story.

So! My mother and her friends live in a poor backwater of Mississippi. Like we visited during Thanksgiving and the "City Square" which is the heart of the city was either cute, kitschy gift stores or buildings that are literal husks with caved in rooves. So they are permanently B O R E D and have picked up the art......... Of Dumpster Diving in the extremely rich college town north of them (not naming it cuz I don't wanna dox my mom or ruin their weird side hussle. @banahbanah you know where I'm talking about)

Apparently they heard tale that all the rich college kids and stores just throw out perfectly good furniture, clothing, anything under the sun at the end of the semester. Sure enough she's told me about a giant 65in TV that was "broken" (a 50$ repair got it working again) basically a new wardrobe, perfectly good food (Star Bucks throws away so much shit), Coach Bags, and knick-knacks galore!

This is all relevant because half of the stuff in The Box are goodies from one of her outings!

In this picture (Professor Juniper for Scale) we have a Bento Box, a Tea Cup (which she worried would break but thankfully did not), and two different gift sets of tea (both thrown out well before their expi date) all gotten from the HomeGoods Dumpster in said rich college town.

Now, I know what you're thinking: Desi. Isn't this a little privileged and problematic that a bunch of Southern White Women can go around dumpster diving and basically not get in trouble with the police? And I say... Like, duh? But they kinda do a Robin Hood approach to their little operation and share with everyone in their friend group anything and everything they find! They're basically using their privilege to stick it to corporate America and even MORE privileged white people!

Also in this pictures are crystals from an old chandelier in my childhood room. Mom was replacing it and asked if I wanted it? I'm renting, I don't have any place to put it lol so I just said "Can I have the crystals to make Sun Catchers with?" She didn't quite get it, but she sent them anyway so yay!

And of course, my delicious Milex (powdered milk for those that don't know what the hell I'm talking about) 💖💖💖 I know I'm a weirdo for basically using it as a cereal additive by making things extra milk, but I fucking love it and it tastes of childhood. 💖 We have to get friends to "import" it from Honduras cuz the company that makes it doesn't sell online anywhere??? It's fucking wild how hard it is to find this stuff!!! Gotta ration better this time. I literally used the last bag she got me in a few weeks 😅

Look at this thing! It was "Made in Nepal" with "environmentally friendly products" and is bigger than my damn torso??? I can fit my full-sized sketch book in this dang thing lol! It's very... Hippy dippy lol. I definitely see why she got it for me 🤣 Will have to wear it around Colorado and see if I get any Crunchy Moms lusting after it.

BUT YES. I did an unboxing on Facebook Messenger with my mom and dad and it was silly fun. Hope this random hobby my mom has taken up nets me more random bullshit lol.

Prince Harry’s popularity might be plunging but he will be on a high during his time in Germany for the Invictus Games as he will be staying in a sky-high Presidential Suite at a luxury hotel.

He is booked into a £2,000 night suite with stunning views across The Rhine and will be joined later in the luxurious residence next week by his wife Meghan.

The expansive suite on the 17th floor of the Hyatt Regency hotel in Dusseldorf will be his base for the next eight days.

On Saturday night he will launch the sports event for wounded and disabled military veterans and attend the week long event, dropping in to cheer of competitors in events such as archery, swimming and wheelchair rugby.

Staff at the five-star hotel – which boasts an expansive terrace overlooking The Rhine with a silver bubble shaped bar – were tight lipped about their VIP guest whose popularity in Britain has fallen to 32% from over 70% following his repeated swipes on the Royal family.

The hotel describes the accommodation as a 'premium' suite - with two 65-inch televisions, plush robes and even a yoga mat

The apartment-style suite includes a separate living area, kitchenette and a bathroom - complete with walk-in rain shower

A police motor cruiser has been parked near to the hotel in a show of security being beefed up ahead of Harry's arrival.

As the Games have been organised by the Bundeswher, the German military, there are also number of uniformed personnel around the hotel.

Members of the management team for the Games are booked into the hotel and Harry will be checking in when he arrives Saturday morning following his brief visit to the UK.

At the 2022 Games held in The Hague in Holland Harry and Meghan stayed in a Royal suite in the city's Hilton Hotel. Invictus management were also booked into the same hotel to that meetings could be held among the team.

His Presidential suite boast a king bedroom with panoramic views towards 250m high Rhienturm, a telecommunication tower that dominates the skyline of the German city.

The Presidential suite has a separate living area, kitchenette and a bathroom with a the bathroom boasting a walk-in rain shower.

The hotel describes the giant-sized 158sq m accommodation as a ‘premium suite’.

There are also two 65in TVs, one in the bedroom and the other in the living room.

Description: Found materials shaped into mandalas, sculptures, and designs. Artist Tamás Kánya makes modifications to the objects used such as painting the stones to create greater contrast in the designs. Some of the pieces pictured include sand sculptures done in geometric fractal designs, stones worked into a descending swirl into a dug sand pit, flowers shaped from medium sized stones in muted greys, blues, and blacks, and figures made from driftwood. Pieces are large, some with a circumference of 200cm/80 inches, some larger, some smaller. Many of the driftwood statues appear to be between 165cm/65in, the average height of an adult human, or taller. Artist uses the naturally formed lines and shapes of the found materials to create images, and while color is sometimes modified or enhanced, the overall texture and shape of the materials are left intact. These are impermanent art pieces, created in the environment they are found in, and left to return to the landscape.
