stream of consciousness talk about the hunger games prequel below
I find it really interesting that people don't like how certain last names (that we already know from the trilogy) show up in the prequel book (e.g Lucky Flickerman is the host/commentator and we can presume that he's Caesar's relative - father? idk if it's stated)
I've seen people say they wish there were other people involved, that they didn't like recognizing so many names, but that's the whole point.
Like, there is very little upward mobility in Panem, whether you're district or capitol. Every single citizen is entrenched in their role from the birth. Not only that, but legacy? tradition? those are cornerstones of this whole system - so Heavensbee Hall/Hilaria/Plutarch? Arachne/Seneca Crane? Lucky/Caesar Flickerman? There's a reason Plinth and Highbottom are not names we see again if I'm remembering correctly.
Anyway, to me it just screams, "This is how it is, was, and will always be." The people with power and influence, the people who made it out of the rebellion with their wealth intact, they're going to be the first players in this larger game and they are never going to stop playing.
Not to mention, the man that Snow becomes? He's keeping people who can play their part close, and people he can manipulate closer.

A (probably rambling) Lan Qiren Appreciation Post
Ok, let me start by saying I'm fully aware that he isn't a "perfect" person. He is a human and comes with human flaws, however, I often find that he gets reduced to nothing but rules and anger, which in my opinion isn't fair. Many seem to forget all the things he has gone through and accomplished, seeing only a strict man obsessed with rules and filled with anger, a hindrance for his nephew and his husband. It's true that he is strict and does like the rules, just as he often appears angry too, but that's not all he is.
(Chapters the "facts" come from are ch. 64, 68, 79, 111 and 117.)
Anyway, let's start from the beginning. We all know Lan Qiren is the younger brother of Qingheng-jun (QHJ), the previous Lan sect leader. It's fair to assume that QHJ was trained and moulded to become a sect leader from childhood, becoming a renowned cultivator with an impressive reputation from an early age, so I bet everyone assumed he'd be a great sect leader, one who would fulfil his duty well. Then, at twenty, he suddenly announces his marriage and goes into seclusion, pretty much throwing all the responsibilities of a sect leader on his younger brother, Lan Qiren, overnight. At this time, LQR is at the oldest nineteen (though I hc him as 18), but since we don't know the actual age gap between QHJ and LQR, we can't know for sure how old he is. However, he is a teen that suddenly finds himself being a sect leader in everything but name. Not only that, he pretty much lost his brother too, since QHJ went into seclusion and unless he visited him there (if it was even allowed), he wouldn't see him.
Like this isn't enough, he becomes an uncle twice within a few years (here too, we don't know the exact age gap between LXC and LWJ, as well as how long after the marriage LXC was born). Although the babies are raised by others at first, they are handed over to LQR "once old enough to be taught and raised", so LQR was their de facto parental figure. And suddenly LQR has a sect to run and two sect heirs to raise and he himself is most likely still under 25. He also wasn't trained for this the same way QHJ was, but the Gusu Lan Sect still flourishes. Yes, it was most likely already doing well before him, but he continued that and also ended up becoming a renowned teacher. On top of that he raised two boys into becoming two of the cultivation world's most renowned members, and let's be honest, both LXC and LWJ are good people. If LQR was such a horrible parental figure, then I doubt both of them would've turned out as well as they do. I'm not saying he's doing everything perfectly (no parents or parental figures ever do), but he did well.
Yes, he was strict with them and the reason was how their mother's crime had caused QHJ to throw away his life (as well as abandoning his duty) and LQR feared his nephews might do the same thing unless he was strict with them. In other words, he didn't want them to do something impulsive that would then ruin their chance of happiness (and maybe because it might also lead them to lose the ability to be with their family, like for QHJ). It might not be the best way to show care, but for a Lan who saw his accomplished brother throw away everything for a woman that didn't return his love, it makes sense. He also wouldn't be the only uncle who shows affection through irritation and scolding, would he? (Yes, Jiang Wanyin, I'm looking at you.)
Another thing that's good to keep in mind is that we often get to see LQR from WWX's point of view, unless someone is speaking about LQR, and WWX is chaos, so obviously anything strict will appear stricter. I don't say that's necessarily the truth, but it might be good to keep in mind.
Let's continue to a less than happy part, LWJ hiding WWX. Firstly, it was LXC who fetched LQR and the elders out of worry, but LQR too was worried, albeit showing it as frustration. I don't think corporal punishment is okay, however in this world, it is and LWJ did severely injure 33 elders of his clan, in the view of that, the punishment does make sense. It also makes sense that LQR is the one sentencing the punishment, since it's only him or LXC who can do it and I believe that LQR doesn't want LXC to have to punish his own brother. I do not see this as LQR not caring about his nephew, as I know many do. I fully believe that whipping LWJ did emotionally hurt LQR, but rules are rules.
Time for WWX's return. As we all know, LQR falls into a coma after trying to play Evocation for NMJ's arm and LXC later states to WWX after they return from the Cultivation Conference that LQR has just woken up. I read somewhere that it was about a month between Evocation and the Cultivation Conference, meaning that LQR has been in a coma for 3-4 weeks. No matter your golden core, that got to take a toll on you, which seems to be true as he is the one leading the Lans during the second siege of the Burial Mounds and he "stood before the crowd, looking considerably more aged. There were even streaks of white in his hair." Yes, this might be due to the stress of finding out that one of his nephews is with the returned WWX and the other nephew is gone (in the claws of JGY), plus the fact that Lan Juniors have been kidnapped. However, if this were the case, he would've aged a lot during the Sunshot Campaign and the First Siege of the Burial Mounds. I firmly believe it's the resentful energy that put him into a coma that took its toll on him. Anyway, no matter why, here he is, maybe a week or so after waking up after a nearly month long coma, leading a group of Lan cultivators. And no, it's not just to fetch LWJ, because he shows care for those under his command:
"Lan Qiren hadn’t wanted to go in, at first. He would rather have remained outside and fought until the bitter end. However, he was not waging this battle alone—there were many Lan and Jin Clan cultivators under his command, and they were not the main force in the fight. He did not want to treat the lives of those disciples with such disregard. If there was a thread of hope for survival, he was compelled to seize it."
As stated later, LQR is not a reckless man. He will do what the rules say is right and what will benefit the most people, even if he disagrees on a personal level (in this case wanting to fight, but knowing others might die if he does, since they would remain as well). He is also not so proud and petty that he won't let WWX speak his mind, instead he remains silent and listens. Many others would not.
He then again, despite probably not being in full strength since the coma and definitely not from all the fighting he's already done and without spiritual power, charges in with killing force to protect people when Su She breaks the barrier into the cave and the fierce corpses attack a again. Though this clearly comes with a prise as he afterwards coughs up a lot of blood and needs to mediate to regulate his breathing (and since LWJ is willing to give him spiritual energy, I have a feeling it's a tad worse than he wants to tell, but since his core is still sealed off, LWJ giving him qi would not help anyway, as LQR states himself).
Now to the aftermath of Guanyin Temple. He asks LXC what's the matter with him and LXC says he doesn't want to talk about it. LQR could press him, he probably could force him to tell him, but he doesn't. Yes he is angry, but the novel also declares that "both were now sources of worry" and it is after also saying that "neither of these two previously flawless pupils would heed him anymore", but I don't think it's just about smudged reputation or control that has him worried. I do believe he is genuinely worried that LXC and LWJ have thrown away their lives. The way he speaks and the way he's irritated with the situation shows signs of someone who acts with anger when stressed (similar to JC). I'm not saying this is the best way to react, but it is a part of our fight or flight reaction. We also can't forget that he did see his brother throw away his life due to an impulse decision and breaking the rules, a life that seems to have been generally happy before that.
And to end it all, after the family banquet:
"Wei Wuxian stroked his chin. If that was the case, they couldn’t blame Lan Qiren for punishing them like this. The man loathed wickedness in all forms. In fact, to be copying texts while doing handstands…they were getting off pretty light."
This is the juniors getting punished for going night-hunting with Wen Ning and if WWX thinks they're getting off pretty lightly, then they most likely are. To me this shows that although LQR adds rules and follows them, he does know there is a degree to them. He knows Wen Ning wouldn't hurt the juniors and that he isn't really evil or bad, but the rules state they shouldn't spend time with him, so he has to punish them, so he does so in a way that clearly is a punishment, but also not as harsh as it technically should be.
This became a long post. All in all, Lan Qiren is more than anger and strictness. He does not lack compassion, he does care about his nephews and I think people forget everything he has gone through and accomplished and that he deserves some more love and recognition (and not to only being the butt of the joke).

Ch. 64: Taking Steps
FRIDAY - WINTER 19
Alex was stopping by for dinner tonight (a dinner Achilles had admittedly not cooked himself, but a nice dinner all the same). It was convenient, with the farmhouse being so much closer to the bus stop than Pelican Town was, and with the early Winter sunset and recent dip in temperature… well, it just made logical sense.
“Why are you trying to sell me on this?” Alex had asked when Achilles had spelled out the relevant reasons to persuade him earlier that morning on the phone. “Ever thought maybe I actually want to just spend time with you, you punk?”
Fair enough.
He had copied Alex a key so that he’d no longer need to swipe the spare from the garden gnome, but even so, Achilles found himself jumping nearly a foot in the air when the front door creaked open (add to the To-Do List: hire someone to fix those hinges).
“Hello, hello—perfect timing.” Achilles shoved a fresh bread roll into Alex’s mittened-hands before bustling back to the oven for the salmon he’d been keeping warm. “How was your day?”
Bread roll between his teeth, Alex removed his coat before hanging it neatly behind a kitchen chair. “Good! I broke 53 seconds!”
“That’s my man—”
“Hey, you know actually, though—guess what? Tanya put in her two weeks today.”
“Really?”
“Yeah!” Alex hurried to help set the table for two, unstacking the coasters and filling the electric kettle (he’d long come around to the copious amount of tea Achilles drank). “I mean, I knew she was thinking about leaving for awhile now, I think most of her family is in Grampleton, but we didn’t think it’d be this soon. Megan’s throwing her a goodbye party at the top of the new year, she said you could come if you want.”
“Oh yeah? Me showing up won’t be rubbing salt in the wound? Maybe that’s the real reason she’s moving back to Grampleton, realized she’d never get with you.”
Alex laughed and lightly smacked the back of Achilles’ head as he passed him from behind. “Sure, sure.”
Tanya had actually taken the rejection quite well, according to Alex, who’d been asked out on a third date by her on the opening day of the Night Market. She’d been supportive enough—surprised, for sure, but she had mostly shrugged and wished him well.
Haley, however, who had always been determined to dislike her, had found her lack of a reaction offensive.
“I guess she just always saw you as disposable, huh?” she had said with a click of her tongue.
“Haley, I told her I don’t like women, she knows there’s nothing she can do.”
But she’d only pursed her lips and responded with her infamous little, “Hmm.”
The table was set, the tea boiled. The two took their seats at the dining table, and for the first time, Achilles thought the farmhouse truly felt like a home.
“But anyway—ooh, this looks good—how was your day?”
“Less productive than yours, I think, but could’ve been worse. I’m making progress. While I did not break 53 seconds in my 100 meter butterfly though, I do think I managed to break just over 100 steps today.” Achilles flashed his wrist, and Alex could indeed make out a “135” flashing in red on the watch face.
“135— 135? What is wrong with you—”
“—which was a bit of a surprise, but you know who stopped by to pay a visit—”
“—135 is barely a walk to your bathroom—”
“—and then she went on and on, it was just like the day I moved here—”
“Achilles, are you even listening to me?”
“Of course I am!”
“What did I just say?”
“Ah. Well…” Achilles at least had the decency to look a little sheepish as he pretended to hide behind his mug. “Didn’t realize there’d be a pop quiz. Anyway, you clearly weren’t listening to me, either—”
“You didn’t go for a run this morning?”
“It’s colder than a yeti’s asshole out there—”
“I swear to Yoba, you Monstera people… I could bring you some weights, if you want.”
“You’re hilarious.”
“At least do some yoga or something. Okay, at least stretch. Just for 30 minutes! 135 steps… I swear to Yoba, Achilles…”
“I used to boulder, you know. Like at a rock climbing gym—”
“Well too bad, rich boy. We don’t have fancy things like that out here in farm country.”
Honestly though, stretching was most definitely a good idea—his body was sore as hell from sitting at his desk all day, from his neck and shoulders all the way down to his damn calves. His calves! They hadn’t even done anything today, evident by the 135 steps he’d taken. The price of his productivity, he supposed. He’d gotten quite a bit done on his story. Or maybe it was just the price of being in your late 20s…
“By the way,” Achilles rose from his seat to take his 136th step of the day and refill Alex’s teacup. “Remind me, I want to chat about tomorrow later.”
“Oh hey, so did I, actually. I mean, we can just talk about it now, unless you had other things on that agenda you always have rattling around in that head of yours.”
“Begone wench, get your shady ass out of my house. Okay, really, I just wanted to confirm… you’re sure you want me there tomorrow?”
“I told you, it doesn’t even matter what I want, my grandma wants you there and my grandpa knows better than to argue with her about it.”
“I take that as a somewhat promising sign. Right? Perhaps?” But Alex only shrugged in response as Achilles pinched his nose and sighed in resignation. “Does Evelyn realize this is going to be the most awkward birthday dinner in the history of birthday dinners?”
“That’s what I wanted to talk about, actually—got a, uh, a great idea to make it even more awkward.”
“Amazing. Tell me more.”
“So remember how you offered to, um, talk to my grandpa?”
“Mmm, yes. I take it you’re taking me up on that?”
“I mean… only if you’re still willing…”
“Yeah, yeah, of course. I’ll do whatever you want me to do, baby.” Achilles patted his mouth with his napkin before setting it to the side of his plate, nearly missing the goofy, lovestruck grin into which Achilles’ slip of the tongue term of endearment had transformed Alex’s anxious little frown. Don’t get distracted, it’s time to talk business. “Do you have a plan? How do you want to do this? You just tell me what you’re comfortable with.”
*****
“Fuuuck.”
Talking business was over, to be replaced by something Achilles was in all likelihood enjoying less.
In a doomed-to-fail attempt to belatedly reverse his pain (but mostly after a significant amount of nagging from Alex), he’d shoved in a few halfhearted beginner HIIT workouts (led by Alex) between bouts of Junimo Kart. After a minute of high knees, he’d collapsed with a groan back onto the couch, only to land right atop the bulky plastic game controller.
“Fucking hell…” He rubbed his lower back as Alex ignored his whining, focusing instead on zooming his car down the boulder-stricken roads of Crumble Cavern. “Man, do you know what I never actually ended up getting but that would be so incredibly beautiful right now?”
“What?”
“Do you know what would be nice right now?”
“A game controller that doesn’t keep drifting to the left? You know, I’ve only got one life left because it won’t let me stay on the dang road at turn 8—”
“Skill issue.”
“Like heck it is, I’m a beast at this game. Come on, you gotta be able to afford a new controller easy—”
“Stop saying these things or I’ll think you’re only dating me for my money—”
“Who says I’m not?”
“Get out of my house.”
“Ok, ok, ok,” Alex squinted in focus as the cursed turn 8 began to approach on screen. “So what is it that you wanted that was beautiful or however you said it?”
“I want a massage.”
“Well you’ve got a $150 a month membership to Orange Grove now, you can use our in-house masseuses, they’re really good.”
“Can’t you just give me one?”
At Achilles’ tone, Alex spared a second to flippantly glance to his left before retorting, “Thats not what you said last season.”
“What I said last season—? Oh—wow, you remember that?”
“I wasn’t that drunk on Spirit’s Eve, Ash.”
“Yeah, yeah…” Achilles lightly chucked the extra controller at Alex before squirming deeper into the opposite end of the couch. “Well, getting hard in the middle of you giving me a back rub probably would’ve raised some questions last season, wouldn’t it’ve?”
“Aaaand I’m dead.” Alex set the glitchy controller down on the coffee table while breaking out into light laughter. “You really think that would’ve happened?”
“I don’t know, maybe we should try it just to see.”
A dramatic sigh—but it was clear from the narrowing of Alex’s eyes and the upturned corners of his lips that he was enjoying this.
It wouldn’t lead to sex, they both knew that. Achilles had ensured they’d discussed the nights before—Alex’s lingering anxieties and boundaries, and the compromises they both were willing to make. No matter the post-shower cuddles, the late-night make outs, and now, apparently, the midst-video game massages; no matter how their bodies couldn’t help but physically react to each other, Achilles had emphatically reassured Alex he’d never expect it all to end in sex. And that had been enough to lift the guilt and unease weighing at the back of Alex’s mind and allow them each to wholly enjoy the other, fully light of heart.
“Fine. Take your shirt off, you dweeb.”
“Oh, say less, Alexander—”
Alex laughed at the lighthearted tease. “Come here. Turn around, please.”
Achilles stripped his sweater—black again, Alex had noted earlier; “You really do wear a lot of black in Winter” —and planted himself on the flat woven rug at the foot of the couch just as Voltaire came bounding over. He curled his fingers into the cat’s thick fur, and basked in the warmth and glow of the fireplace as Alex carefully folded the sweater and set it on the sofa cushion next to him. He felt a single finger trace seemingly random paths across his back, but taking note of the bright glare of the television and the white lights above, he attempted to guess the motivation behind Alex’s not-quite-arbitrary touch.
“Not very pretty, is it? I’ll never forgive the spirits for that.”
“I just didn’t realize you were still so scarred up from the mines.”
“Yeah. The sexy mood lighting of my bedroom tends to hide it well, doesn’t it?” After a beat, he added, “They’re not too visible anymore though. And it doesn’t hurt. Could’ve been a lot worse. And a lot more visible. Which would have, of course, been a lot worse.”
“Ha ha…” Alex stopped his tracing and planted a light kiss between Achilles’ shoulder blades before getting to work.
“Fuck, Al…”
Almost instantly—almost instinctually—he closed his eyes and allowed himself to melt fully into Alex’s touch. This was exactly what he needed, fuck, it felt good. His hands were warm against his skin, their strokes deep and slow. To Achilles’ mild embarrassment, he failed to conceal the breathy moan that escaped his lips—but it only gave Alex cause to laugh again.
“You know, you should be giving me one of these, considering I’m, you know, stressed about tomorrow, not to mention I’m doing actual athletic stuff—”
“No, no. Your actual athletic stuff is exactly why you need to go to a real masseuse. We can’t have me accidentally screwing up your back, what if I ruin your 50 second butterfly…”
“Man, I wish it was 50 seconds, I think that’d be a world record—”
“And tomorrow will go well, Alex. We’re going to do what we can.”

my around 120ish year timeline I've tried to put together, for the sake of making it simple I did it from year 0 (I'm not fantastic at math) after quirks come:
0- a small but noticeable amount of the population is born with or all of a sudden forms superpowers, Yoichi, 2nd, 3rd, and afo are born the first generation for it to happen too around here.
10- somewhere around here shinomori is born in my timeline because we know he died at 40
23/24- diagoro is born due to my guess of him and shinomori being born in the same generation just in opposite ends
22- ofa is created
24- 2 and 3 bust Yoichi out of the vault, the duo holders are very cute together
27- Yoichi dies young (illness, his quirk, or by his brother's hands?) my presumption at 25/26, passes ofa on.
30- 2nd dies young for unknown reasons (assuming afo) 29 or so, passes ofa on.
32- 3rd dies young (afo? probably) 30-32 years old, passes ofa on to 22-year-old shinomori
43-45- nana and en are born in the 3rd generation with quirks, only a few years apart
50- shinomori dies due to ofa's shorter life expectancy in his woods, diagoro gets ofa in his mid-20s
43-45- en and nana are born in the 3rd generation with quirks, only a few years apart
60- diagoro dies presumed because of afo trying to take ofa, and gives it to a very young en
63 all might is born (assuming he's around 55 now) in the 4th generation with quirks
64- en dies very young at 20/21, presumed because of afo trying to take ofa his sister, friend, classmate? nana gets ofa
75- nana meets 12- 14-year-old toshinori and trains him for ofa.
79-81- nana is killed by afo when toshinori is 18 years old. she was around 34-36
103- all might lives past the 40-year ofa life expectancy
104ish- izuku and 1a are born in the 5th generation with quirks
112- all might vs afo fight #1 both survive with heavy injury's
117/118- all might meets izuku and bnhas plot begins
119-ua year 2 and current manga plot
what we know: no one but all might (+ izuku hopefully) lived past 40, afo tired to take ofa twice before the current plot when diagoro and en had it, the two with the most time with one for all are all might and shinomori and make our lives easier by giving two decently long time jumps where we know something dint happen to the quirk.
my assumptions: mostly ages they died, Yoichi (26), 2nd (29/30), 3rd (32) diagoro (36/37), en (20/21), nana (36-38) I think diagoro and nana lived longer because they seem a bit more experienced, nana had a family, makes sense with the timeline +cute parental figures for Toshi and en.
hope you enjoyed it owl feel free to fix it up if you want to add to it
No no, this is perfect from what I can tell!! You are. Amazing. The only thing I’m unsure about is that Izuku was nine, I think, not eight when AFO vs. All Might v. 1 happened, so that’d shift everything one year, and make UA Year 2 perfectly at 120 years. If I’m right, it’s been a while since I researched that

Green With Envy
It’s past 2am and my eyes hurt so it’s unedited for now sorry y’all😅
Original Request (from Wattpad account): What makes the boys jealous, if possible?
Guest stars: Sasori and Sai!
Masterlist
Naruto~
Oh, this boy… he’s too oblivious sometimes he doesn’t even know to be jealous. He was at a hot spring with friends once and someone says, “(Y/N) is so hot…” Naruto just grinned and said, “Yeah, she really is.”
But that doesn’t mean he won’t protect your honor. If someone says something a little too… risque like ‘Yeah, I’d tap that’ for example, get ready for more Narutos than you can count all charging you with a Rasengan.
He will not stand other guys cozying up to you. He’s the one who should be blessed with your hugs and cuddles. Won’t hesitate to cause a scene and yell to the entire world that he loves you and won’t let any other guy make a pass at you.
“Naruto, you didn’t need to go that far! You blasted him through three walls!” He’s endearing, really.
Sasuke~
Is jealousy an Uchiha thing or just a Sasuke thing? One of life’s many mysteries. Anywho, unlike Naruto, the second your name is brought up in conversation, he goes on guard and he’s listening closely.
If anything is said that he deems inappropriate, whether it be disparaging or otherwise, Sasuke had better be held back or he just might punch you into next week.
“Sasuke, calm down! He just said I had good taste in clothes!”
Even though he can easily get jealous, he knows the importance of freedom and he trusts you. He won’t come guns blazing (or sword slashing rather) and drag you away unless you need it of course.
The last thing he wants is for you to feel like you’re dating your dad or something. He’s very blunt and if he becomes uneasy with the way another male is talking to you, he’ll let said male know. Maybe after scowling with his Sharingan activated, however.
Neji~
Neji doesn’t really get jealous per se, more like offended on your behalf. Because of his upbringing, which taught him manners and the utmost respect, he really can’t understand talking about girls like they’re objects? Will never refer to a woman as ‘hot’ or anything like that.
If someone even dares speak of you like that, (even if you’re not necessarily together yet) he will fight them, and they will experience the 64 palms technique.
He especially hates people in your personal space. He really does trust you, just not others. Is not afraid to embarrass someone on your behalf. Half the time his glare is enough to scare them off, but some people are just clueless. (They wake up in the hospital)
“Neji! You can’t just throw me over your shoulder and leave! And that guy looked like he had seen a ghost?!” Needless to say, even cool, calm, and collected Neji has his limits.
Shikamaru~
Shika is too laid back to get jealous over little things. Somewhat like Neji, he doesn’t get jealous. He might feel threatened on your behalf, but never jealous. He can trust you with his life why shouldn’t he trust you with your relationship?
However, if someone is clearly harassing you or just generally making you uncomfortable, he will not hesitate to step in and make them leave. He won’t resort to physical violence (too much work), but he will intimidate them or put his genius to use and play some kind of trick on them.
He honestly has endless patience and at the same time no patience? Patience with you if you’re having a pleasant conversation with someone, but will go from 0-100 (or 50, really, anything more is a lot of effort) real quick.
“Shika, that guy thought he was really paralyzed, thanks to your shadow possession!” Being jealous is a waste of time, but clever revenge is always a treat for Shika.
Kiba~
So. Jealous. So. Easily. Kiba is naturally animalistic (in the best way) and just like a dog, can be very possessive. If explicitly asked, he will try to tone down his jealous fits, but will still be protective. If he does have free reign, however, oh boy…
No chill at all, whatsoever. Whether it’s absolutely destroying the object of his rage or just simply making out with you right there. No matter how annoyed he may get, he respects you with every fiber of his being and would never tell you to change or try to control you. He wouldn’t ever embarrass you (unless Kiba and Akamaru pummeling a room full of guys is embarrassing).
Just let him FIND OUT someone is making you feel the slightest bit of unease. One second, they’re chatting you up and then BAM! There’s a flash of white and a huge dog ready to maul them.
“Kiba, what do you mean they all looked at me for too long?! We walked in the door, of course, they turned to look!”
Gaara~
Gaara is a bit of a conundrum, but in a way that makes sense? Like, he doesn’t feel the need to get jealous of guys because when you leave, he’s going to be kissing you goodnight, and he’s the one who gets to spoil you.
However, he will get jealous of little things. Oh, you’ve spent a good amount of time playing with an animal/pet? Be prepared to walk in on Gaara giving them a stern lecture on stealing you from them. Gaara knows he has any potential suitors beat, but tiny adorable animals and children? In his mind, he can never be too cautious.
He gets a little pouty but that can easily be cured with cuddles, sometimes with that evil little pet that stole your affections from him. He can never stay jealous for long, he views it as an unproductive waste of time. He could be actively trying to get your attention, but instead, he’s going to be sulking in a corner? Yeah, no.
“Gaara! Stop scolding my cat, that’s not doing anything!”
Sai~
On the rare occasion that this cinnamon roll gets jealous, he’s confused and shocked. Like just imagine the surprised Pikachu face and that’s him. He knows what jealousy is, he can identify it just fine, but he doesn’t know why he’s jealous.
You aren’t doing anything, all you did was laugh at someone else’s jokes, but still… do you find them funnier than him? Are you going to leave him because he’s not that funny?! Cue the slow onset into insanity… Poor Sai is losing his mind to paranoia and made-up scenarios.
Will most certainly drag you away (gently) from whoever is taking your attention and leave. He doesn’t even bother with a fake smile, they don’t deserve it. He’ll explain to you calmly even though he’s panicking on the inside. Once he is back to normal he’ll show you his nearest artwork.
“What the-! Sai, you can’t just draw caricatures on people’s car!” You don’t even want to know how he figures out which car is theirs...
Kakashi~
Too cocky to be jealous. He has the right to be though because one glance at him without his face mask can cause instant pregnancy. Anywho, he knows you love him and some guy trying to hit on you like some high school douche isn’t going to change that.
He does like to intervene, however, just to flex like ‘yeah, I’m the boyfriend, now get lost’.
He’s not big on PDA, so he won’t start kissing you to ward off strangers, but he will wrap on arm around you or hold your hand and ask who your ‘friend’ is.
When there’s that one stubborn person who won’t take a hint, Kakashi doesn’t mind rocking someone’s world or getting kicked out, he needed to perfect that one offense technique anyways. He’s pretty laid back though, so it has to be somewhat drastic for this though, plus he knows you can handle yourself.
“A thousand years of death?! Isn’t it weird to be poking old men in the butt?!
~Akatsuki~
Pein~
Pfft. Who does he have to be jealous of? He’s a god among mortals, after all. To him, you’re a goddess and as such you belong with someone like him, not the peasants around you.
But on the offhand chance that someone doesn’t heed his godly status, he will not hesitate to pull you into his side and yell ‘Almighty Push’ and totally obliterate that loser. (A/N: Holy crap I think that needs to be a one-shot cuz, wow, Pein being all protective is making me swoon?)
If it’s not a big deal, he’ll easily let you take care of it. If you’re strong enough to catch Pein’s attention, you’re more than strong enough to deal with some lowlife. That doesn’t mean, however, that they won’t feel his wrath too.
If you ever want to witness a true royal rumble, dare someone to mess with Pein’s S/O. It’d be an epic tag team match (slaughter, really) for the ages. One would d be surprised how quick he can lose his cool when it comes to you.
“Pein, that’s the fifth time this month! Kakuzu is going to murder me if I ask for money to fix this wall!”
Deidara~
Need I even say it? Jealous boy all the way. You’re his favorite masterpiece so why should let an uncultured swine who doesn’t even understand your worth touch you? Rhetorical question, he wouldn’t.
He is not above fighting or placing a bomb on someone who gives you one too many glances. He’d make sure they knew it wasn’t art, they weren’t good enough for that, before blowing the offender up.
No one and he means no one gets to talk bad about his S/O. If someone insults you in his presence they might as well as swallowed one of his explosives and trusted him not to blow them up.
Will one 100% hide you from view if you look too appealing. He thinks you look ravishing, but he’s the only one who should be able to think that, in his opinion. Don’t worry, no one’s ever gotten close enough to harass you with Dei around. His one-eyed scowl is a great deterrent.
“Deidara! You blew up my favorite restaurant! He didn’t even say anything to me!”
Sasori~
Would rather die before admitting he was jealous. As adamant about not being jealous as he is about art being eternal. That’s not to say that he won’t take action though. He will use chakra strings to make the perpetrator walk away, meanwhile making them bump into literally everything in the general vicinity.
The two of you don’t leave the base all that often so it’s unusual to see an envious Sasori action, but it’s a real treat when it happens. After he deals with whatever idiot crossed him, he’ll be a bit more affectionate that day/night.
Not huge things, but instead of working on puppets all night, he’d be more apt to hold you that night. Average people hitting on you make him insecure because he realizes he’s not that great at normal relationships but he still doesn’t want to lose you. That feeds into his jealousy and he figures the only way to get rid of it is to make sure those other guys can’t offer anything he doesn’t have.
“Sasori! If you wanted a hug, you could’ve said that instead of treating that guy like a ball inside of a pinball machine!”

Maybe a Secret Saturday and DP crossover with the Fenton's being approached to join the Secret Scientists. The parents are quickly deemed too biased against ghosts to join until further notice. Their kids, on the other hand. The son's not quite a scientist, but he has potential. And their daughter would be perfect.
“Remind me why I’m doing this again?”
Doc gave Zak a look.  “Because the Secret Scientists need new members.  Potential members need to be screened by existing members.  And the Fentons have kids your age.”
Zak raised a skeptical eyebrow.  “I don’t exactly get along with ‘kids my age.’”  It was true.  Ulraj and Wadi were exceptions to the rule, and even interactions with them had been rough at first.  It had been four years since he met them, and they were still just about his only friends.
Zak just didn’t do ‘normal’ very well.  Sure, he could integrate himself into a group for the sake of information gathering, but that usually didn’t last very long.  Thirty minutes, tops.
“I know,” said Doc.  “But sometimes people will say things to and around kids that they wouldn’t otherwise, and we want to be thorough.  Make sure we’re inviting ethical people.  No more Abbies.”
“I guess that makes sense,” said Zak.  He sighed.  He knew Fisk wouldn’t be able to come.  Most of the time, they were able to get away with people assuming he was a guy in a suit, or just ignoring him in favor of much more obvious, more immediately dangerous cryptids, but that wouldn’t be something they could get away with when it came to prolonged contact.
It never seemed fair to Fisk.
(Cryptids always seemed to get the short end of the stick.  Even the ones who were as intelligent as any human.)
“You don’t have to be friends with them,” said Doc, putting a hand on Zak’s shoulder.  “Just like we don’t have to accept the Fentons into the Secret Scientists...  But give it a chance?”
“Okay,” said Zak, shrugging.  “A chance.”
.
Danny loved his parents.  They loved him.  He knew that they were brilliant scientists who had made incredible breakthroughs in a difficult and poorly regarded field.  They deserved recognition and funding.  They had no colleagues with whom to correspond or test ideas with.  They had no real friends.  They deserved that, too.
All in all, Danny thought they deserved the position in the think tank that was about it interview them.
But Danny felt sick at the idea of them spreading their biased and hateful theories about ghosts to yet another group.  He hated the very thought of even more people, more scientists, more people who were trying to do good in the world, calling him and the other ghosts evil just because of the way they existed.
But he didn’t know how to stop it.  Not without revealing himself, and he was too much of a coward to do that.
... Maybe he could convince their kid he was a jerk?
Ugh, no.  As inconsiderate as he could be unintentionally, he was incapable of being a jerk on purpose.  Unless the person deserved it.
(Jazz had once theorized that it had to do with his ghostly Obsession of helping others.  Danny theorized that not all aspects of his personality had to do with him being a ghost.  Jazz had dropped the theory shortly thereafter.)
He was worried.
Could pull a Harry Potter and drop a cake on someone’s head.  Would that work?
Unlikely.
There was one option, but it was a bit of a longshot.  He could tell the interviewers that he had doubts about his parents’ work and conclusions.  But would they believe him?  He was just a teenager.  Easy to dismiss.
What if he approached them as Phantom?
(What if they were just as gun-happy as his parents?)
This was hard.
He sighed, and swung himself off his bed.  Regardless of what he actually did, he needed to make himself ‘presentable,’ otherwise he’d never hear the end of it.
Although, concerning his appearance and his secrets...  He tugged lightly on the lock of gray hair he’d sprouted lately.  It had become a nervous habit.  One he really needed to stop, because drawing attention to white hair on his head was not something he wanted to do.
Maybe be should start dying his hair?
“Danny?” called Maddie from downstairs.  “The Saturday’s are here!  Come on down!”
Danny clattered down the stairs, being loud on purpose (the better to be undetected when he wanted to be quiet).
The Saturdays...  Huh.  Danny had not expected to ever see another family wearing jumpsuits.  Much less orange jumpsuits.  Jack looked overjoyed.
The Saturdays’ jumpsuits looked just slightly more combat ready, however.  Danny’s stomach, which had already been sitting rather low in his chest, plummeted.
He did not foresee this going well in any way, shape, or form.
He forced himself to turn his attention towards the son.  Who was color coordinated with his parents, but not, thankfully, wearing a jumpsuit.
(Interestingly, he did, however, appear to be armed.)
“Hi,” said Danny, waving slightly in greeting.
“This is our son, Danny,” said Maddie.  “Our daughter, Jazz, is at a study group right now, but she should be home before too long.  Danny, this is Doctor Solomon Saturday, his wife, Drew, and their son, Zak.”
Zak smiled at Danny in a slightly strained, awkward way.  His teeth were just a little sharper than human average.  There were flecks of orange and gold in his eyes.
This was a person who wasn’t quite human.
Maybe this would be easier than Danny thought.  He tugged on his lock of white hair.  “Prematurely grey buddies, huh?” he said.
“Oh,” said Zak, touching his own, much larger, tuft of white hair.  “Yeah.  I guess so.”
“Um,” said Danny, acutely aware of all the parental eyes on him.  “Video games?”
“Sure,” said Zak.
“Great,” said Danny.  “Let’s go.”
.
Zak followed Danny upstairs.
He was 99% certain the other boy wasn’t entirely human.  He wasn’t sure if it was simply intuition, or some remnant of his Kur powers, but he would put money on it.  If, well, he had anyone who’d bet with him.
(Doyle, maybe, but Doyle wasn’t here.)
(Where had this intuition been with Argost?  That’s what he wanted to know.)
“So,” said Danny, rocking slightly.  “Do you play Doom?”
“Now and then,” said Zak.  “Kinda prefer older games.”
“How old?”
“Uh...  I kind of like the pokemon games on the 64?”
“Oh, yeah, I’ve got a couple of those,” said Danny.  “Um.”  He flopped down in a beanbag chair.  “Just... make yourself at home, I guess?”
“Thanks,” said Zak, managing to catch the controller Danny tossed at him and sitting in the desk chair.
“So...” said Danny, not making a move to turn on the system.  “This is going to be weird to ask, but, um.  Do your parents know you’re not totally human?”
Zak stared.  He... hadn’t expected Danny to be able to tell that he had been Kur, much less come right out and ask him about it.
“Or...  you know what, forget I said anything.  It’s just a joke, haha, so, games-”
“Do yours know?”
Danny frowned.  “That you’re not human?”
“No, that you aren’t human.”
Danny looked away.  “No,” he said, fiddling with the controller.  “They’re not... very good about that kind of stuff.  If your parents are, that’s good.  It’s just...”  He rubbed the cord of the controller between his fingers.  “Mom and Dad are great at the technical side of things, but they don’t like being wrong.  And they think ghosts are unfeeling and mindless, so...”
“Oh,” said Zak.  “Um.  Are you,” he stopped, realizing that asking someone if they were dead was probably not a great idea.  He slumped down in his seat.  “I’ll tell my parents.”
“Yeah, if you could not tell them about me and just, like, the other bit, that’d be great.”
“I can do that,” said Zak.
.
Jazz carefully placed an envelope under the windshield wiper of the Saturdays’ car.  Knowing her brother, he was probably going to try something dramatic, but if these people were serious about being scientists, she was sure they would take evidence and data regarding the intelligence of ghosts much better.
And Danny had thought he was just humoring her when he helped her interview those ghosts!  Thought she had no other motives other than curiosity!
Well.  Honestly, he was right.  Back then, she didn’t know there was a think tank considering inviting her parents to join.
But, hey, it came in handy, didn’t it?
.
“It’s such a shame,” said Drew, writing her recommendation against the Fentons joining the Secret Scientists.  “They seemed like such nice people.”
“Yeah, but if both their kids are telling us they shouldn’t be let in,” said Zak, “and they don’t even know about the Secret Scientists, they think you’re just part of a think tank, how nice can they really be?”
Drew made a face, and reached over to give Zak a quick hug, which he just as quickly escaped.
“The daughter, though,” said Doc.  “She has a good foundation, here, with her research.”
“Maybe once she graduates high school,” said Drew.  “We have scholarships, don’t we?  Or maybe an internship...  Cryptid psychology might interest her...”
“What about Danny?” asked Zak, yelping as Fisk snuck up behind him and poked him.
“Hrrade hhr hrend?” said Fisk, slyly.
Zak narrowed his eyes.  “Maybe,” he said.
“We’ll keep an eye on them,” promised Doc.  “All the Fentons.  Just in case.”

Some Thoughts about the Hundred Acre Woods
To a grown adult, a place like the Hundred Acre Woods sounds whimsical at best and outright ridiculous at worst. Most of its inhabitants have neither brain nor blood, but are able to walk and talk as if they were human.  Time and space don’t have much meaning either, with days melting away and seconds stopping in their tracks. The extraordinary circumstances of the Hundred Acre Woods makes The House at Pooh Corner easy to dismiss as valueless except in the function to amuse children. In a sense, the stories are meant to do exactly that. However, being used to entertain children does not detract from the value of The House at Pooh Corner. In fact, the very opposite is true. The stories of Pooh stumbling and bumbling around his home are able to reach human beings in one of the most critical developmental periods  of their lives. The stories send a message that nobody is perfect, yet everything gets accomplished in the end, no matter the mistakes along the way. The stories also explore issues that are present in childhood, such as  anxiety regarding the world at large and what change really means. This essay will examine how through the characters and events of The House at Pooh Corner, A.A. Milne was able to explore and validate common experiences of childhood.
The first experience that A.A. Milne explores is the anxiety of the surrounding world. This is accomplished through the character of Piglet. Simply put, Piglet exists in a near-constant state of fear.  Throughout all of the Winnie The Pooh stories, the pint-sized companion expresses his desires to not do whatever the characters are thinking about doing. One instance is when Owl’s house is tipped over in Chapter Eight of The House at Pooh Corner. In order to right the situation, Piglet must be attached to a string and lifted by Owl. By asking “Suppose it does?” (Milne 281) to Owl’s reassurance of the string not breaking, Piglet openly expresses his reservations about the situation. While seemingly small, this is an incredibly important detail. At times, childhood can be frightening. Every problem seems monumental, and that's because each issue is monumental. There is no pre-existing knowledge to work upon, and the chances of an adolescent, particularly a very young one, having critical thinking skills already are slim. Therefore, it is easy to become overwhelmed or unnerved. By having Piglet be the perpetually spooked character that he is, Milne is validating the fears of childhood by giving his readers a character to relate to. The relationship between Pooh and Piglet furthers the validation. Where Piglet is afraid, Pooh is confident, and makes sure that he reassures his small friend. Going back to the incident of Chapter Eight, Pooh says “[The string] won’t break...because you’re a Small Animal, and I’ll stand underneath...”(Milne 281). Furthermore, Pooh promises Piglet that if Piglet saves them all, he’ll write a Pooh song detailing how brave Piglet. In this moment, Pooh is doing something very important: he is acknowledging his friend’s fears, but then uses logic to reassure and even offers the possibility of a reward. The relationship between Piglet and Pooh acts as a one-two act in seeing the fears of children. Piglet acts as the acknowledgement, while Pooh acts as the reassurance that things will be okay. For young readers, the dynamic between Piglet and Pooh can act as a source of security, as they are given permission to be anxious and the safeguard against it.
The second thing that A. A. Milne acknowledges in the House at Pooh Corner is the extreme relativity of time. Adults have lived longer, and therefore each minute seems to pass quickly. In fact, the older an individual becomes, the faster that time passees. That is because compared to the time that they have already lived, each moment becomes a smaller amount. If a person is 64 years old, they have already lived 23,360 days, which is also equivalent to 560, 640 hours. However, for a young adolescent, each day seems longer because they have lived less of them, and therefore is a larger chunk of their life. For example, a four year old has only lived 1,460 days, or 35,040 hours. Additionally, children’s lives do not revolve around time. Adults need to be at work by eight, get home by five, make dinner at 6, and be in bed by 11:30, and so on and so forth. Children do not have such concerns. Especially in earlier years, the lives of children are occupied by just existing and not dictated by clocks. If they need to be somewhere by a certain time, like at school by nine in the morning, a parent or other adult individual is in charge of making sure that happens. A.A. Milne demonstrates the lack of importance of time in a child’s life by making its passage a deeply unreliable thing in the Hundred Acre Woods. It is noted that Pooh’s clock had “stopped at five minutes to eleven some weeks ago” (Milne 158) in the first chapter in the House at Pooh Corner. However, neither Pooh nor any of the other residents of the Hundred Acre Wood seem to find issue with this, simply accepting it. Later on, in Chapter Three, as the characters attempt to find Small, Eeyore looks for two days without anyone telling him that their subject has been found (Milne 202). Both of these instances are somewhat comedic in nature; however, both also shed light on how children view time. A broken clock, if broken long enough, may be noticed by a child. However, it doesn't mean much to them, as time is largely irrelevant. Due to the lack of urgency, the clock does not get fixed, in both Pooh’s house and in the life of a child. As for the passage of days, two days of searching seems quite a long time for an adult, especially without rest, as it is indicated in Eeyore’s case. However, with a minimum concept of time, two days isn’t that notable. Milne’s writing ultimately plays upon the children’s view of time and validates the experience of having very little idea of what is actually going on. The Hundred Acre Woods is a unique place, with quirky inhabitants and a liquid sense of time. It’s a place of fantasy and friendship, saccharine to some readers. However, within its borders lies more than the adventures of Pooh and his friends. It’s a place of validation, where children’s anxieties and confusions are acknowledged and soothed. By creating the Hundred Acre Woods, A.A. Mine sent out a simple message to his young audience: everything will be okay.

And now because I have nothing better to do, I am going to rate all the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons winter themes:
SNES -> Very melancholy and gloomy. It makes absolute sense for the theme to be like this, because the season in game is very harsh and you can run out of money or food for your livestock quickly.
GBC -> It is pretty much the same as in SNES, but on the Gameboy sound font. The melody is fine, I guess, but we have to admit, Game Boy music is VERY grating to listen to, so yikes.
64 -> It legits sounds like a remix of the SNES winter theme. It has some of this “shing shing” sounds winter music is so fond of, which makes it a little more cheery, but it is overall still a pretty melancholy song that makes you think of a harsh winter.
GBC2 -> Like GBC, suffers from the Game Boy sound font, but the tune is generally nice and it sounds a bit like a christmas jingle. Certainly makes me think of winter.
BTN -> The first Youtube comment went “Funeral music for my crops” and that is literally how the song sounds like! BTN’s winter theme is EXTREMELY slow, sad and melancholic, consisting of pretty much only string instruments.
GBC3 -> Sadly I can’t find a video that points out which one is the winter theme. But listening to the overall OST, it must be pretty terrible.
AWL -> While this game lacks traditional season songs, one of the records is called “Quiet Winter”. This one will fit. It is a very soothing and relaxing song, I actually enjoy listening to it a lot. I want to sway to it while watering my crops.
FomT -> It is the same as the BTN song, but with the GBA sound font. It actually makes it sound even MORE melancholic.
STH -> The song is very slow and melancholic, but for some reason, it doesn’t really gets stuck in the ear. Which is a shame, because STH OST normally is amazing. The winter theme is an expection.
However, there is a different winter theme, the one for the town! Different to the farm theme, the town theme is cheerful and almost christmassy, using the “shing shing shing” again in the background.
MM -> A cheerful winter tune. It is fun to listen to, but I must admit, the instruments feel a bit chaotic, the song doesn’t have much coherence, so I don’t really know what to expect from it. It feels like several songs got played over each other.
HoLV -> Wha?! Isn’t that the Kakariko theme from Ocarina of Time?! The song really sounds like this from the background tunes ^^ It turns into an original song soon enough though and it is a good one, it is relaxing, feels like it might snow, but overall is one of the more cheery winter tunes. It has a pretty cool key change in the middle.
DS -> A very wintery theme, but one that doesn’t sound christmassy. Kinda mixes the melancholy with the joyful part and makes it a pretty solid song, but the background tune is a bit too repetitive.
ToT -> It starts pretty calm and relaxing, certainly makes you think of winter, then has a key change with a very charming melody before repeating. The song is very coherent and sounds like winter. A good song.
The song also has a night theme, but this one sounds downright haunted. Woah!
IoH -> Now THAT’S a cheery tune! It screams winter joy and a fun snow day to me. The only downside is that it is really short.
AP -> It starts out almost gloomy before changing into a major key sounding song that just screams winter and star gazing time at me. The beginning notes are a trap, this song wants to slap, but it wants to let you think that it goes the melancholy route first. In a sense, it has a bit of melancholy into it even.
The night version of this song uses the same melody as the day theme, but with different instruments. Let me just say, they are equally AMAZING. I know why I think that AP has one of the best HM OSTs of all times.
SI -> I have mixed thoughts on this one... as a winter theme, it is alright I guess, but like with MM, it is kind of not coherent? It also has this strange howling wind sounds in the background, which take away from the song imo.
GB -> This one literally starts out with the “shing shing shing”, makes you think winter right away. The main melody is cheerful, though played with a low sounding instrument, but adds some bells or whatever, making the song more cheerful again. It then has a key change and turns into something greater.
ToTT -> What?! That is a winter theme? It sounds very very different, there is barely any winter to hear in there. Disappointing, because ToTT generally has a pretty solid OST.
ANB -> This must be one of the BEST winter themes in the entire series. It starts with a really solid opening and then the main melody kicks in, which just screams “christmas” or “fun snow day” to me. I want to sway to it once the second part of the song begins. The melody rises more and more until it culminates into a slower pace only to do a perfect repeat. It is a pure joy to listen to.
TLV -> While a solid song, that theme suffers from a BIG problem. The first ingame year you are pretty much stuck in winter, so you have to listen to this theme for almost an ENTIRE year. While the theme sounds pretty magical and wintery, I can’t like it anymore after having been forced to listen to it for far too long.
The night version is a little better, but still a bit grating because of the problem described up there.
SoS -> This winter theme is something special. It follows a certain event and it actually sounds like it accompanies this event and the sadness and melancholy of our farmer while they grieve. This theme sounds more like it could be a character theme instead of a seasonal theme, because it certainly tells a story. The slow and staccated melody played throughout the theme just cements this even more.
SV -> I can only find one winter theme for this game and I think it might be the night theme. It is a very slow theme, but also kind of nice.
3oT -> Similar to ANB, this is a very cheerful winter theme, which just wants to make you sway while you enjoy a snow day (or sweat your head off when you visit Lulukoko). It is very cheery and christmassy and overall very fun to listen to. I could never get enough of the theme.
LoH -> Hmmm... the song goes for a slower pace, but it sounds a bit off, like someone tried too hard. It has a keychange in the middle though and while it still sounds a bit offkey, it is nice enough, but there are better themes.
SoS FoMT -> Ah yes, our favourite, the BTN winter theme that just is TOO melancholy. They try to make it a BIT more cheery, but playing it in major key, but that, uh, doesn’t really work.
This one also comes in an alternate version that plays on weekends and festival days, but it is super QUIET. I barely can hear it when I play the game, so these days always felt like they had no music.
It is a somber piano tune, which very much makes it feel like winter, but still too melancholy.
I REALLY hope that I didn’t forget a game! Tell me if I did!

Completed - Baba is You
Tumblr media
I can't believe this is the first game I've perfected on Steam.
Like, I don't like achievement systems in video games, okay? I prefer to set my own goals. Sure, there are some achievements that are interesting, like learning to use a certain mechanic in a cool or efficient manner, visiting hidden rooms, or even running around with nothing but my character's default busted sword just to prove a point. Mostly, I just want to finish them. I don't go jumping through flaming hoops because I want people to think I'm cool. I'm from Iowa. I'm critically uncool by design.
If a game is good, I will put in the extra work. Like, getting 100% souls in "Castlevania: Aria of Souls" and 200.6% map completion in "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" is now just routine for me. With "Baba is You"? Well, circumstances are just a teeny bit different.
"Baba is You" is a puzzle game from independent developer Arvi Teikari. Your primary goal in the game is to create statements out of nouns, verbs, and conditions and use those generated rules to complete levels. It's basically catnip to programmers. These puzzles are packaged in cute, scribbly animations and gentle music. Ultimately, its soft presentation is the figurative sheep's clothing under which the wolf of this game lives, dragging its players through increasingly more complex situations, sitting there, laughing, its whole world wiggling in its adolescent mockery of you and your sluggish brain.
You're not always even Baba. I know. The absolute betrayal.
I originally saw this game being streamed back in 2019. A frustrating feeling overtook me as I watched the player work through the puzzles. I could feel myself solving them before she could, and it was making me itch. I didn't want to have any more spoiled without giving it a shot myself, so I purchased the game, put in a few hours, and then dropped it for two years. Hell, the major reason I came back to it was that I was babysitting my mom's very needy poodle, and I was more or less trapped on the couch with her during her entire stay. Had to do something. So, I decided this was it.
"Baba is You" really is the ultimate "Yeah, I'll get back to this" game. You know what I mean? There's always a handful of games that you make a little headway into, and then you think, "Yeah, I'll get back to this" and then drop it. I try not to be this way. Video games are expensive, and I want to get as much value as I can out of them. But man, does this game get overwhelming.
I mean, the TAS for a 100% run is currently around an hour and forty-five minutes. That's for 226 puzzles. That is a lot.
Granted, you don't have to finish every puzzle if you don't want to. The game can let you slide free with your first ending after completing only three subworlds on the main map. You know how many people get to that first ending? Like, we're talking maybe getting through 3 hours of gameplay or so. As of this posting, it's around 7.8% of all players on Steam. In comparison, here are first time ending numbers from other games I own on Steam:
"Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon" – 38% (Cleave the Moon)
"Trine" – 29.6% (Completed!)
"Dust: An Elysian Tale" – 23.9% (…And the Dust Settles)
"Fez" – 14.7% (Kill Screen)
"Psychonauts" – 13.2% (I Thought That Was Unbeatable!)
"Typing of the Dead" – 12.9% (Experimental Fiction)
"Final Fantasy VII" – 9.4% (End of Game)
That's right. From a percentage point of view, more players will put 80 hours into a 20+ year old RPG than 3 hours in this game. So, what's up with that?
At first, I wasn't struggling terribly with the game. I was making a pretty steady clip through it, stopping occasionally to check out the game's wiki. (BTW—view that on a laptop browser, not a mobile one. The background makes it hard to read some of the verbs and conditions.) My first tap-out in 2019 happened around the "Forest of Fall" block, when the game started introducing teleporting puzzles. My second brain-snap happened about 18 hours in the game when I accidentally created the phrase "Level is Key" in the puzzle "Fragile Existence," and then I realized that I could both create this level as Baba and had to create another level as a flag to win the overworld map.
And then there was a submap.
And another.
And another.
Holy crap, my brain was not ready for the mess that was Depths and Meta.
At one point, I stopped myself and reviewed why I was overcome with despair at my own stupidity. A part of it is yes, the game looks very cute, and the language used in the puzzles is very simple. So, when you don't get it, it's like saying you don't get "Sesame Street." And hey, maybe you wouldn't if it was in Mandarin and you only speak English. But, I did want to beat myself up for my sluggish responses and my growing feeling of helplessness. Why couldn't I beat the simple sheep game for babies? Was I really that stupid?
I think it helped to know what troubles I had my playthrough harder. This included:
Using text to push objects past barriers. (Yes, text exists in the world, and unless it's floating, you can use that text to move objects around. It's like hitting a car with a stop sign.)
Assuming attributes on an object that weren't actually assigned (i.e., assuming a door was locked or a wall would prevent me from moving through it, even if that wasn't the case.)
Manipulating text to double-layer nouns or break up commands by wedging an inactive/non-solid object in them. (See: Prison.)
Realizing that "you" doesn't always have to go to a certain destination. Sometimes, "you" just need to have something move over there or push something into where you want to go.
Remembering to use the "Wait" button to let moving objects finish their paths.
"Defeat" is a condition that applies only to "you", not objects in your possession. (They may instead be destroyed by "Sink").
Some rules need to be created and destroyed in the same turn.
Things that move on their own can be used to carry commands through obstacles.
Sometimes, you've just got to count your steps when you're taking an action and see if you can reduce them.
And granted, despite my stupidity, there were some puzzles that really clicked! I particularly enjoyed using the "Word" condition, as it allowed for me to treat both words and objects as a noun to make assignments. There were also times where I had to spell out the commands I wanted from letters left on the map. Fun! Natural! And hell, who doesn't enjoy a good block pushing puzzle, now and again? Super easy. Makes sense. Key is push, door is open. Of course!
Tumblr media
Ass is Hot! Of course! (Wait, that wasn’t the solution...)
I tended to lock up more when the "Defeat" piece was on screen. I mean, you can always undo your mistakes, and there's no life limit or anything like that. But, hearing your player character go splat when you mess up is flinch-worthy. Additionally, I hated having to build complex paths for objects to follow. Like, screw the entirety of Adventurers. Also, learning what the "Lonely" condition meant felt very unnatural. It was hard to even tell why I was splatting until I read up on what it meant.
Interestingly, changing the language of the game only affects the menu's language, not the game itself. (I was wondering if adding a layer of comprehension to objects would stop me from auto-assigning properties to them or not. Makes sense that it's all in English, considering the "form objects from letters" puzzles.)
I felt bad when I finally gave up on putting effort into solving the puzzles on my own. I did. But, I was also 18 hours deep into my file in a single week, and I wanted to get back to my other hobbies. I felt that if I gave up on "Baba is You" again, I wouldn't finish it ever. And then, those 18 hours truly would be wasted. Also, I felt sick that only 7.8% of people had gotten to the first ending screen. The game isn't bad! It's hard, but not bad! I wanted to at least give it enough dignity to finish it off, even if I was more or less reading what I needed to build with one eyeball and building it with the other.
And hell. Given all of the version differences of this game and the amount of time that has passed since its release, it is a teeny bit YouTube proof. Not completely invulnerable, but I did catch a difference or two here and there. And it's not like the wiki's the clearest with what you need to do, even when they're telling you exactly what to do. You've got to mind your space with your words. At the very least, don't push anything aside or wreck it until you absolutely must.
I can't emphasize how much I felt bad about giving up. I mean, it's one thing to look at guides for other game types. You can get knowledge on how to beat a boss or level, but you've physically got to develop the skills needed to vault through that goal. With puzzle games, knowledge is 99% of what you need to accomplish your task. The rest is just putting in the solution as elegantly as possible.
92.2% of players didn't bother to do even that.
I won't pretend to say I know enough about puzzles to make an excellent puzzle game. However, I do think brevity would have helped this game. Like, think of puzzle games people like. "Tetris," right? Even a long game of "Tetris 64" lasts me a couple of hours at most. "Portal"? That's a handful of hours supported by plot and fun dialogue. So is the sequel. "Panel de Pon" / "Tetris Attack" / "Puyo Puyo"? Those are like "Street Fighter" arcade campaigns. Like, 15-20 minutes. To have a puzzle game go on for hours and hours without any character motivation or plot in sight? Yeah. That's going to burn a lot of people out.
Like, this game could have just the over world, a single hidden world, and then the Center portion, and that would have been more than enough. And then you know what could have been done with the rest of the puzzles? Put them in a new game! "Baba is More!" Bam! A second game, now with extra "Inception"-styled mind screws! Twice the money earned! (Yeah, okay. This plan might stink of capitalism.)
Making 226 puzzles is impressive. However, brevity is the soul of wit. Sometimes, design can be contradictory like that.
But, its achievements? Perfectly laid out. Truly finishing the game is likely to net you everything. I only had to put in a couple of hours after the true ending, and really, only fifteen minutes of that was solving the puzzles. The rest was just finding what I had missed. (I've heard rumors that "Baba is Baba" is bugged, but I think you just need to look up how to get the Level is Win solution in Meta figured out. The rest is elbow grease.)
I don't know if I can recommend this game. Again, having a case of the bad feels over that statement, especially since it seems like the developer has his heart in the right place. I'm hesitant to recommend this because when I was playing it, I had a migraine that lasted three days straight. Granted, there were possibly some external factors to why I had that. A fat polar vortex. Stress from work. Some hormonal influences. Not enough caffeine or water. Just generally living in the United States in the early 2020s. Plenty of things to crush my skull. I don't think it's in good taste to recommend something that will cause others physical pain. I mean, I'm used to games cracking my hands, but that's not exactly healthy behavior. I certainly wouldn't want to give someone an epileptic attack. Why would I want to drive a nail through their skulls, either?
I do think the game is solidly designed. It's a smart little cookie. But, it is unintentionally discouraging to get through, especially if you feel like you can't ask for help. Like getting a clue or an explanation is cheating.
Look. Try. Try hard. Be as honest and earnest as you can be. Just don't expect to do everything in your life alone, okay? I mean, there are times you've got to get an external perspective. I frequently had to crash after school with mathematics teachers and badger professors to explain topics outside of class. You think I was going to come up with how there are different kinds of infinities on my own? Hell no. I'm not creative in terms of mathematical proofs. But, I sure as hell can explain how different infinities work now! Even post-schooling, I still research topics, particularly when building or fixing things. I wouldn't have learned half of the things I've learned about maintaining game cartridges or building dollhouses without suggestions from professionals and enthusiasts. It's just part of life. You ask for help so you don't burn resources—especially something as valuable as time!

JoJolion chapter 107 review (starring Higashikata Caato)
Why not? This chapter does star her.
We’re finally almost free from the crap of Caato’s hypes because she finally does something right now. This chapter is about her fight against Tooru and more about her character.
Previously related post:
The Long-Awaited Most-Hyped Character Finally Made Her Appearance: Caato
MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD!! Don’t read more if you haven’t read the newest chapter (107) yet and don’t want to get spoiled!
Tumblr media
JJL chapter 107: Kaato Higashikata's "Attack"
First, I’d like to try her recipe.
Tumblr media
Actually, the reason she is in Higashikata’s house right now is to deliver Jobin’s favorite dish made by her… what a lovely mother. Too bad, instead she found her son’s dead body.
Tumblr media
This actually should debunk some Caatofags silly idea of her as an evil person who doesn’t really care about her family. When it looks like more about Jobin, I think she does care to her daughters as well when she asked them to stay in their place.
Tumblr media
Also, the speculation of Tooru’s tricking Caato also got debunked, obviously because Yasuho is there to tell her about what was really going on.
Tumblr media
Yasuho in this chapter mostly just explains anything happened and her explanation regarding rock-humans and New Locacaca is because she has no reason to assume that Caato already knows about these things.
Tumblr media
I like how Caato looks calm when Tooru was pointing knife (more like saw I think) at her, those tears in her eyes are still tears of grief over Jobin’s death, not due to her fear.
Tumblr media
read it from left to right -->
That really sounds like a villain speech and it is said by Tooru. At this point I’m getting even more conviced that he is the true main villain of part 8.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caato then revealed her Stand, the name is 「Space Trucking」 and I have explained its newest mechanism in my other post, so I won’t go in depth in discussing her Stand here. In short, she uses her Stand to hide some of Tooru’s limbs to incapacitate him.
Tumblr media
Apparently, the one who called her “K-Kaato-san” in the last page of previous chapter was Yasuho and Tooru also knows about her (Caato). Just like what Maako, the girlfriend of Ojiro said that the news about her murdering a child 15 years ago is a well-known sensational news in Morioh, so it is not surprising if several characters in JJL know her.
Tumblr media
I like Caato’s composure and softness here, kinda reminds me of Jolyne… yeah, she has been compared to Jolyne numerous times, her intro in prison is definitely a Jolyne’s reference. Araki once said that Norisuke IV is the JJL version of Josuke in part 4, as his elder counterpart so, what if Caato is also the elder counterpart of Jolyne in JJL? That kinda makes sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caato already knows about the New Locacaca and so, does this mean that Caato was hiding another pot of the New Locacaca?? Or is that the same pot that Tooru and Yasuho had been fighting for in previous chapters?
My guess is that it is the ‘same’ pot, look how the pot that Caato reveals does not have any fruit either. I think Caato is just playing with her Stand’s ability while talking about the New Locacaca  or… perhaps, while she looks like she is playing, she actually manages to hide and steal a part of the plants(?)
Tumblr media
Look, a flashback of Caato and Jobin! I think it officially becomes her trait to always barge in unannounced and startled whoever was in the room. They were in Jobin’s beetle collection room where he hid the New Locacaca there.
Look at the window that still looks intact there, then this flashback happened before the fight between Jobin-Tsurugi and Ojiro.
Tumblr media
This is so wholesome this scene basically tells that no matter how old Jobin is he is still Caato’s baby.
Okay, I’m not into symbolization but now I want to talk about it just a moment, while this could be simply a JoJo thing that Jobin was wearing such impractical design for the sake of fashion, with that outfit he basically locked his own wrist which might symbolize of being handcuffed.
Tumblr media
If you’re willing to take a look at the flashback scene in chapter 64, Jobin started wearing such outfit when he was a teenager right before Caato got caught by the police. Is this a form of Jobin's empathy for his mother who was in prison? Even though this symbolization is slightly missed because he was already wearing that outfit just before Caato got caught.
Tumblr media
Told ya, the window still wasn't broken yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, Jobin eventually told everything to his mom, about the New Locacaca, its equivalent exchange ability, the orchard burning and Tsurugi’s involvement.. and the most important thing that’s being revealed here is that the sap has the same power as the fruit! Those beetles show that we don’t necessarily need to have the fruit to get the effect of perfect equivalent exchange!!
Also, this actively debunk those wild theory of Caato being the mastermind of everything, she did not seem to possess any Locacaca before, she did not know the existence of the New Locacaca (and possibly about the rock-humans either), she did not know what truly happened during the orchard burning, she doesn't look like she is a secret rock-wahmen either, etc.
She is not as mighty as those Caatofags want her to be, however…
Tumblr media
…her character remains consistent since the early of her introduction, that she actually had a conflicting view with Norisuke IV regarding the family’s ethic and moral value. This is about what we call “selflessness vs selfishness” again, and Caato’s view is more dominant in influencing Jobin.
Caato is not the mastermind controlling Jobin like a puppet like those Caatofags was promoting. Everything Jobin has done in this story is of his own will, starting from his cooperation with rock-humans, the struggle of the New Locacaca and the burning orchards. However, Jobin's way of thinking, motivation and ambition have been influenced by Caato's views and how she has nurtured him.
And in this chapter, Caato is being supportive towards Jobin like she had always been (read: chapter 59 and 64). Plus, Caato and Jobin’s Stand names being references to Deep Purple’s songs may signify their close relationship.
Tumblr media
Looks like she just basically activated her Stand on the plant, it could be hidden whenever someone tried to come and get it but it wasn’t truly activated, at least that’s what the translation implies.
Tumblr media
read it from right to left <---
「Wonder of U」 starts appearing behind Caato, does it mean that Caato really start harming Tooru? Another new feat of her Stand’s ability that it is able to fully hide a living being, which she uses to hide her grandson Tsurugi.
Tumblr media
She makes Tooru to do equivalent exchange with dying Tsurugi while 「Wonder of U」is seen rushing towards Caato… end in cliffhanger. Probably my favorite page here. Basically, what Caato does is ‘two birds in one stone’ movement, breaking the Higashikata family’s curse by saving her grandson while eliminating Tooru.
Tumblr media
And what could happen next?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My thought…
This chapter shows how awesome Caato truly is, starting from her soft side as a mother to her toughness against the enemy.
Araki is really doing her well, I thought there was no need to turn her into an antagonist with great power/influence or a silly plot twist that this unassuming grannie is the mastermind behind anything.
Caatofags had once described her as a mother who directs Jobin like a puppet and supervises Tooru as her subordinate whereas in reality, Araki has been portraying the three of them in a more balanced way rather than one being above anothers.
Tumblr media
I really like her relationship with Jobin, I once said that they would make good partners if they were to be the final antagonists after Tooru, but sadly at this point I feel that Jobin is permanently dead.
There won’t be Yoshihiro-Yoshikage(like)’s cooperation against Josuke in this part… however, Caato continues to carry out her supportive role towards Jobin by trying to fulfill his main goal of curing Tsurugi and breaking the family curse.
Even so far, I haven't considered Caato as an antagonist, I still think of her as a 'wild card' for Josuke and Yasuho.
Tumblr media
The mystery and next chapter prediction…
If this goes well, it looks like Caato's action in doing equivalent exchange to Tooru and Tsurugi will succeed in curing Tsurugi. The cracks on Tsurugi's face seemed to be diminishing. But with the 「Wonder of U」 following behind her, it shows that Caato's life too is in danger.
Tumblr media
Then what will happen to the fully healed Tsurugi? Considering that the fusion happened to Josefumi and Kira does not make any of them 'alive' with their consciousness and instead creates a new consciousness we called “Josuke”, the new Tsurugi might not be the Tsurugi we know all along.
Besides, the equivalent exchange that happened on Tooru and Tsurugi is an exchange between rock-human and normal human and so far we still don't know what the effect will be. Will this be the answer to Tsurugi's weird behavior in the flashforward of chapter 83?
Then I also questioned about the harvest countdown of the New Locacaca in the flashforward, that in the previous chapter (106), the fruit in the pot was already gone. But in this chapter, there could be a possibility that Caato might hide the other parts of the plant (perhaps some branches) using her cards.
I think that there is starting to appear a slight hint linking the current events to the flashforward in chapter 83.

Okay, this one is going to be long, because I feel the need to overshare. In 2018, a person I know and his friends played a ""harmless"" prank on me , and I ended up drowning quite deep. You know those dramatic movies where everything looks slow-mo? Yeah, that's how it felt like. Anyhow, I got out somehow and a kind stranger pulled me up so I was pretty away from water. I always found that prank weird because they took away everyone including life guards, distracted my buddy, barricaded all the shallow areas, but maybe it was simply harmless.
I didn't swim since then, and I was planning to get over my fear this year, but well, 2020 happened.
But having experienced that, when I die of age 2357754367 years, I'd like to die by drowning. I really really do.
If not, an assassination will do. Just make sure it's for a good cause.
07: What did you last eat?
Ans. Gouda.
08: Played any sports?
Ans. Yes, basketball and tennis, mostly. Sometimes, shooting.
09: Do you bite your nails?
Ans. Well no but actually yes.
10: When was your last physical fight?
Ans. I don't remember. I'm more of a pacifist.
11: Do you like someone?
Ans. Do fictional people count?
12: Have you ever stayed up 48 hours?
Ans. Yes, unfortunately. Never again.
13: Do you hate anyone at the moment?
Ans. Hate is a pretty strong word, so I'll pass.
14: Do you miss someone?
Ans. Yes, terribly.
15: Have any pets?
Ans. I used to have two chicks, and my grandmother, till recently, had two Labradors.
16: How exactly are you feeling at the moment?
Ans. Melancholic.
17: Ever made out in the bathroom?
Ans. Yuck. Never have, never will.
18: Are you scared of spiders?
Ans. Absolutely not. I think they're adorable.
19: Would you go back in time if you were given the chance?
Ans. I've been reading too many isekai manga, so yes.
20: Where was the last place you snogged someone?
Ans. I've never kissed anyone in that sense of the word.
21: What are your plans for this weekend?
Ans. Give tests, study, and organize a bit.
22: Do you want to have kids? How many?
Ans. I'm an ace. But when I actually have the financial income for it, I'll like to foster some kids, get them great degrees, and send them an emergency fund. I feel as if not many people are talking about the things foster kids face, especially teens and once they age out of the system. I'll pull an evil scientist and clone myself, if a need for someone young with my gene arises.
23: Do you have piercings? How many?
Ans. My ears were pierced traditionally.
24: What is/are/were your best subject(s)?
Ans. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Politics, Economics, Geography, Statistics and Languages.
25: Do you miss anyone from your past?
Ans. Yes.
26: What are you craving right now?
Ans. Something I cannot name, for I don't know. Probably water.
27: Have you ever broken someone’s heart?
Ans. No, none that I know of, and definitely not on purpose.
28: Have you ever been cheated on?
Ans. As I said, mich Asexual. I've not been in a romantic relationship.
29: Have you made a boyfriend/girlfriend cry?
Ans. See above.
30: What’s irritating you right now?
Ans. These extremely important exams that are coming in few months.
31: Does somebody love you?
Ans. Yes, and it baffles me so.
32: What is your favourite color?
Ans. Blood Red and Prussian Blue.
33: Do you have trust issues?
Ans. Maybe. Not extremely, but just a bit. Harmless enough to not need intervention.
34: Who/what was your last dream about?
Ans. Well, yesterday I had a dream that my favourite characters were there and I was loved, and day before yesterday (Ereyesterday, if you will) I was getting chased by two murderous, ghostly, serial killing cows. They got me in the end, I think.
35: Who was the last person you cried in front of?
Ans. I don't cry in front of people. I cry alone.
36: Do you give out second chances too easily?
Ans. Unfortunately, yes.
37: Is it easier to forgive or forget?
Ans. Mostly, it is easier to forgive. But that's not an absolute answer or argument.
38: Is this year the best year of your life?
Ans. Well, the fate of this year depends on those super-important exams.
39: How old were you when you had your first kiss?
Ans. I've been kissed before I could even walk, I think. If you are thinking in the other sense of the word: well, I've never been kissed that way.
40: Have you ever walked outside completely naked?
Ans. Once, into the ocean. I was six.
51: Favourite food?
Ans. Tomatoes and Bell peppers. Shakshuka, Kuleybyaka, Thukpa, pickles—you name it. I guess anything traditional/homemade. Anything really, I love food.
52: Do you believe everything happens for a reason?
Ans. Yes, it does.
53: What is the last thing you did before you went to bed last night?
Ans. I prayed.
54: Is cheating ever okay?
Ans. No, it isn't.
55: Are you mean?
Ans. Nope. Not until you hurt people.
56: How many people have you fist fought?
Ans. As in, actually fought and not practiced, yes? Around six, all in self defense.
57: Do you believe in true love?
Ans. Yes, but not in the way it is portrayed.
58: Favourite weather?
Ans. Cold, with loads of sunlight, Snowing or Thunderstorms—I love the rain.
59: Do you like the snow?
Ans. Yes!
60: Do you wanna get married?
Ans. No♥️
61: Is it cute when a boy/girl calls you baby?
Ans. No, it activates my fight-or-flight.
62: What makes you happy?
Ans. Stars, books, people being happy, the way you see a stranger's day getting better, winning/accomplishments/success, stationary, hugs, libraries, zoos—it doesn't take much, really.
63: Would you change your name?
Ans. I might. Not change it, but add more names to it.
64: Would it be hard to kiss the last person you kissed?
Ans. Nope, it was my mother. Not hard at all.
65: Your best friend of the opposite sex likes you, what do you do?
Ans. Tell them, as lovingly and kindly as I can, that I do not like them that way, that I'm not looking for a relationship, and that I'd rather be friends. Also tell them that I'll be the world's coolest winggirl ever, so....
66: Do you have a friend of the opposite sex who you can act your complete self around?
Ans. Yes.
67: Who was the last person of the opposite sex you talked to?
Ans. It was a classmate.
68: Who’s the last person you had a deep conversation with?
Ans. A family member.
69: Do you believe in soulmates?
Ans. Yes, but I don't believe anyone is "perfect" for you. You've got to work on your relationships, no matter what kind they are. Also, soulmates are not necessarily only one, and not necessarily romantic, or so I hope.
70: Is there anyone you would die for?
Ans. Yes, many. Without second thoughts or regrets.

Happy New Year!
This year has been… a thing. Like many folks, my year was defined by anxiety, fear of terrifying hypotheticals, and seeing the world entirely upended by a massive pandemic that still shows little sign of slowing. Thankfully there are and always have been folks working tirelessly in the background and on the front lines to help keep people safe and healthy… and I’m comforted by them and their selfless work. Like Mr. Rogers said, “Look for the helpers”. (LOTS more rambling under the cut!)
Tumblr media
Personally, I found myself at loose ends at the beginning of this year, not knowing what to do with myself when the anxiety hit hard. Surprisingly, I ended up opening the Sims 4 for the first time in years and dipping my toes into custom CC and mods, and found a perfect place to distract myself and disappear for a few hours each day. It was remarkable how much comfort I found in this silly game, and how that comfort was increased tenfold by the amazing community of custom content creators and modders who so generously share their creativity and ingenuity with all of us to enhance our enjoyment of the game.
Not only that, but reading people’s Simblrs, seeing their edits, their gameplay, and reading their stories was a great way to unwind and feel a sense of community and belonging. It was through seeing so many of you share screenshots of your Legacy saves, your challenges, your lot builds, your CAS noodling… all of that was so inspiring and fun to see. Thank you, all of you, for everything you share and contribute to this community.
I made my own Simblr blog only in October, and posted my first foray into CC-making, my Whispy Hairline, not long after. I was immediately overcome by people’s kind words and support. Since then I’ve been having so much fun sharing my gameplay and creating bits and pieces of CC here and there, and I honestly can’t remember how I got on before I had Simblr in my life!
I have no idea what next year might look like, and of course I’m hopeful it’ll lead to better things, but no matter what happens I can look back at this year and be thankful for this community and the comfort it’s given me in such an uncertain and stressful time.
I ask that in the New Year we remember why we’re here: to enjoy a game that caters to so many different kinds of gameplay styles and creative expression. I hope we’re able to have compassion for those around us, and remember that even though it’s important to us, the Sims is still Just A Game… we’re all people, we’re messy, we have flaws, but we’re all trying to do our best in this often difficult and horrible world. We all deserve compassion, and we should do our best to practice empathy for each other.
In addition, I hope we continue to challenge our misconceptions and biases, and continue to be critical of racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and other issues within our communities, and our daily lives. It is incumbent upon us to try and make the world better for the most marginalized, especially in a community like this one where we are so able to express ourselves and create the kind of worlds we want to live in.
Anyway, I’ve been rambling long enough… I feel like an old grandma, sitting on a rocking chair on the porch making my own version of the Queen’s Speech. X) I just wanted to express how much I’ve appreciated this community in the last year, and hope that I’m able to pay forward some of the kindness, inspiration, and enjoyment I’ve received from it this year to all of you.
Here’s to the happiest of New Years, and take care of yourselves and each other. 🥂 💜
