So I normally don't post my NGS stuff in here and in fact, i need to post more on my ngs alt. . . but I made a Lester cosplay in there (with a lot of difficulty) that I wanted to show off. It's very hard to get his outfit and hair accurate, so all of this is approximation. I also lack a necklace that even remotely resembles his, but. Close enough.

My older sibling enjoys Boruto, but that's mostly because they have horrible taste. I mean, they KNOW it's stupid, and they do make fun of it, but still, low standards. Apparently in Boruto, Sasuke just straight up ditched his wife and kid, and barely bothers to show up in Konoha, while Sakura endlessly pines for him. The guy that writes it (...I forgot his name) seems to think this is top tier romance and excellent character writing. Though to be fair, he's also said in multiple interviews that he has no idea how to write women, and he doesn't seem to understand that women are human beings, so I'm honestly not sure why anyone expected him to do better than that fucking dumpsterfire of a character arc he gave poor Sakura (and honestly, Sasuke's character arc was also a dumpster fire; when someone is given a million chances to change for the better, violently rejects all of them, and instead tries to solve his problems with genocide, it's time to give up and kill him).

Though I do find the whole Sakura/Sasuke thing admittedly really funny, just because I know for fact that the guy who wrote the manga had always meant for THAT to be the flagship, and has repeatedly stated in interviews that Naruto was never in love with her, it was a brief, stupid crush, and she never liked him that way either. Meanwhile the writing team for the anime was apparently made up of diehard Naruto/Sakura shippers, and so like 90% of the filler episodes involved the two of them flirting and having romantic scenes. Idk if the Boruto anime has the same writing team as the Naruto anime, but I really hope it does, because I can only imagine how well they'd handle having to officially write for their notp.

Also, apparently Boruto had like a whole arc that was just them playing ninja Uno??? Idk, my sibling tells me there was a lengthy arc focused on playing card games. Ninja card games. Which is also really funny, because I was there for the good old days when the Yugioh and Naruto abridged series were constantly taking potshots at each other.

Anyways, Boruto's a shitty sequel series, and I think it's just vaguely coasting by as a shambling zombie franchise at this point (much like yugioh tbh; it peaked with 5D's, and yes I will die on this hill), so I mostly feel it's not worth caring about; nobody involved actually cares at this point, so there's no need for the audience to care either.. But Boruto did confirm that Naruto is canonically trans, so I'm pretty okay with it just for that.

what do you think about boruto? Do you ship naruhina and sasusaku?

Do people out there like Boruto? Does anybody out there enjoy Boruto? 100% of my enjoyment of Naruto is predicated upon middle school nostalgia. The only thing I know about Boruto is that I read how Naruto ended, was so incredibly offended that even thinking about it pisses me off, and that there's a sequel series. Are people watching Boruto? Is it good?!

Naruhina is fine, it's cute. Hinata's another great female character who was completely misused by the narrative. Sasuke was the worst thing to ever happen to Sakura and the fact that they got together was so actively insulting to her character arc and growth as a person.

In my brief wanderings and touching of grass plus £4.50 Mr Whippy from the ice cream van the economy is in shambles, I have concluded:

Rogue!Master the Dungeon Master cosplaying Captain Jack is definitely still the most logical Occam’s Razor and fitting of the episode themes, both full of depth but also fairly easy for casuals to also follow along with, which is how Rusty likes it.

However. You could theoretically do differently if you were willing to fully commit to the 5d chess that is the Doctor knowing it’s the Master but also roleplaying cus he just really wants this. Because then you uno-reverse yet again, red-herrings bait-and-switch, with this actually being Pantheon member The Rogue, who knows that the Doctor will know it’s the Master cosplaying Captain Jack, and when daddy trapped him in the tooth this allowed the Rogue to do exactly what we see at the start of the episode and effectively take the Master’s place and life in the universe. And we can still explain the all important ‘but why is he cosplaying as Captain Jack’ for basically the same reasons - The Rogue is a Pantheon member and they’ve all watched the show.

(It’s not about just pretending to be Jack, he’s a baddie, he entered to “I’m the bad guy” I’m assuming you know your theory let’s continue)

Pantheon is valid for him because their only shared qualities so far have been 1) Being American, 2) Being Gay, 3) Being about Creativity* *however he is actually shit at improv and ad lib so point against tbh, 4) Being The Something - Rogue works, and the unknown but likely 5) Have watched Doctor Who.

(Whether extradimensional beings crosses over with beings ‘beyond the universe’ I think can easily swing either way, so I won’t use it as a point either way, just note it).

But obvious question is: Why? Sure we need more Pantheon but we don’t need two baddies that fulfil the role of Doctor’s Spouse. This does nothing for us. The ecological niche is already filled.

Option A) Maybe we’re using this to work out a way for the Master to ultimately be a Pantheon member on par with the Doctor. Seems like a dumb way of going about it with bigeneration and so on, but if you were to dedicated a series subplot to it with a few episodes I’m sure you could smush them together and get there.

Option B) We’re going to reveal that the Rogue is actually much more metaphysically malleable than that. He’s a Wildcard, a Joker, he’s ‘rogue’ because he just sees a gap and he fills it, whatever that gap might be for better or worse. Bring back the Master and he becomes something else. He is the plotbunny for plotholes, he’s making a home in there. Fitting for a dungeon lowercase-m-master. And it’s funny and drama time when you let the Master out and at him.

…But again realistically you just don’t have two characters filling the same ecological niche in the first place, Occam’s Razor says it’s just the one. Just that I think you could do it if you were willing to push your audience and do the groundwork - and I don’t think we’re getting rid of the Pantheon this season just introducing them so…

how would it go if cameron actually did ask chase out on a date? a proper one?

at what point in canon?

i think he'd say yes no matter what: you can make a real case he was nursing a little crush on her from episode three, and anyway chase has always been a dumb whore and dates with pretty girls are nice. how it would go varies a lot depending on the season, though:

s1: they probably end up having more of a "friend date," talking about house, drinking, joking around, quite a lot how we see them in sports medicine (you could, again, argue that one of the reasons chase was so weirded out by the monster truck date was he had a lil crush). cameron is probably trying to vaguely make house jealous, and not all that romantically interested in chase — or, she is interested, but doesn't want to be interested, so she makes it about house or a friend date or… whatever 5d chess game she thinks is going on. they have a nice time. chase asks her out again and she declines.

s2: pre-hunting: mostly the same as s1, with a little more flirtation. post hunting? now it gets interesting, right? cameron is probably trying to prove she doesn't regret her decisions and that having a meth hookup was a good and rational idea. chase probably knows she's overcompensating, but he's definitely openly interested by now and willing to overlook the red flags. if they have a nice, traditional date, then cameron has proven she regrets nothing and that this is all totally normal. (i can see it spiraling into some beautifully fucked up "cameron keeps trying to replicate the situation — "oops i drank a little too much and now want sex!" — because she doesn't want to admit she. likes. him.) fwb starts a year early.

s3: if she'd asked chase out instead of fwb? i think at a certain point, if we assume chase has a crush, he's going to try and… woo her? he knows about the house date. he knows she's weird. she asks him out, he starts trying to impress her. surely if he tries hard enough and acts super cute and charming she'll like him too! s3 seems like the best time for this: cameron is trying to prove she's Ready And Willing to have a relationship but probably would very much appreciate chase being the one to put the work in. at a certain point, too, i think cameron asking him on a date ends up having some interesting ripple effects: we know chase always felt insecure and like her second choice, and if she actually did pursue him — even just a tiny bit — it might do wonders for his self esteem, lol.

s4-5: they probably did have cute "we both got out of work at 9:30, what's still open?" dinner dates a lot actually. i bet for different reasons, they both really liked cosplaying domesticity and she arranged most of their dates. i also bet cameron tried really hard to arrange a double-date with foreman and 13 at least once or twice, and no one but her was remotely interested. (chase pretended to be)
