🚨🚨🚨 Saturday Soapbox🚨🚨🚨 Today's soapbox moment is inspired by the latest social media craze 'Birdbox challenge'. For those who don't know,the challenge is based on the #netflix horror film Bird box which features #sandrabullock . In the movie, monsters cause people who look at them to immediately take their own lives — hence the need for constant blindfolds. "Bird Box challenge leads to two-car crash in US, despite Netflix warnings." The above is a headline from one of the papers covering the story. "She had allegedly pulled a beanie over her eyes as part of the challenge, before losing control of her car and smashing into another driver, a light pole and a sound barrier." The challenge involves participants blindfolding themselves while trying to perform everyday tasks, the latest in a long line of dangerous social media phenomena. The fact that this was gonna end with someone getting hurt is not rocket science 🤔🙄. There are so many similar 'challenges'. Some are harmless e.g. #howharddidpubertyhityou challenge, #icebucketchallenge to the more dangerous #birdboxchallenge , #kikichallenge. I don't mind the harmless challenges, little bit of fun never hurt no-one. I'm not a scruge guys. It's the ones taking it to the extreme all for the sake of going viral. This is partly why we are making stupid people famous as a society in my opinion. How about we come up with challenges that actually challenge us to grow. (I guess it's not as fun 😏). Something that will actually benefit your life in a positive way rather than put you in harm's way. Like the #5adaychallenge , #drinkwaterchallenge , or even #randomactofkindness challenge maybe #readabook challenge etc. ________________________________________ I tried to push this before and I'm gonna try it again, #techfastchallenge. Can you go 24 hours with out logging into FB, Insta, Twitter etc for personal reasons. I appreciate for some social media is business related. I'm talking non business related scrolling. Food fasting has many benefits therefore a technology will also have some positive benefits. I CHALLENGE YOU to do the #techfast. Can you exercise self control?!? "Me-me have 'moovie?" 🍌🥑🍓🥕🍯🥛That's how my nephew 👶🏼 asks for his own portion of the smoothie of whomever is drinking one around him 😊 He has a big & diverse appetite. Not a picky eater! I think he'd like this one: coconut oil, coconut milk, chia seeds, a bit of Naked Juice Green Machine, Simply Nutritious Mega Green Juice, carrots, banana, and raspberries. Looks terrible. BNF HEALTHY EATING WEEK @ HOME 🥑🍊🍌⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Today is all about getting your 5 a day 🥗 ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣The British Nutrition Foundation have some very useful resources to help support you in getting more fruits and vegetables into your diet, including a 5 A DAY chart or a weekly meal planner which can help you plan what fruits and vegetables you will add to your meals each day and also help when you are shopping for food so your are well prepared! 🛒 ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Remember that fresh, frozen and canned fruits and vegetables ALL count towards your 5 a day. Just to pick canned fruits and vegetables in water/juice with no added salt or sugar if you can. ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Also, it is really important to understand that not everyone always has access to fresh fruits and vegetables and may not be able to meet their 5 a day each day. This should not be happening in our world today and it is unacceptable that our government let this happen but unfortunately social determinants of health mean that some individuals face food insecurity on a daily basis and do not have much of a choice when making food decisions. Are you getting your 5 a day?
Did you know…it doesn’t have to be expensive!
I know its always being said we should get our 5 a day (fruit and veg) and some people find it easier than others and sometimes it can be hard to get kids to get this into their diets too….and a lot of us find it expensive when buying fresh all the time and if it doesn't get eaten it goes off…so no wonder people just wonder whats the point….but you can keep the costs down by buying canned fruit and veg, which doesn’t go off as quickly….and by choosing canned fruit in its own juice – it’s healthier than fruit in sugary syrup. Or try canned veg in water with no added salt or sugar. (maybe not the ideal situation)
Frozen is even handier, as you can use what you need and put it back in the freezer! And buying fresh fruit and veg when it’s in season is usually cheaper too. Local markets can be great places to pick up fresh and tasty produce at really good prices. 
Just add a portion of veg here, sprinkle a portion of fruit there – and you’ll hit your 5 A DAY before you know it….it doesn't always have to be a case of eating a banana or layering the plate with salad…..you can add to Smoothies/Stir Frys/Brekkies/Hot pots….there is a lot of ways to get your 5 a day.
What I would advise you to avoid is these so called “smoothies” that supermarkets sell that are already made up…..why?? Check the sugar content…..a small little drink can sometimes have up to 35g of sugar in 1….yes I know fruit contains natural sugars but obviously these drinks have a lot more in them, so not only is to more cost effective to make your own, its going to be healthier too in the long run.
Portion Sizes
What exactly is a portion? What counts towards your 5 a day? There is a lot of confusion around this….so here are some examples for you:
A portion of fruit (80g) is roughly equivalent to:
* a slice or half a large fruit e.g. a slice of melon or   half a grapefruit. 
* 1 medium size fruit e.g. an apple. 
* 2 small size fruits e.g. 2 plums or satsumas.
A portion of dried fruit (30g) is roughly equivalent to:
* a heaped tablespoon of dried fruit 
A portion of vegetables (80g) is roughly equivalent to:
* 3 heaped tablespoons of peas, beans or pulses. 
* 2 broccoli spears. 
* a dessert bowl of salad.

Avocado, sun dried tomato and walnut salad
Vegetarian. Tasty. Colourofnutrients.
Ingredients
3 sun dried tomatoes in oil
1/3 avocado
5 whole walnuts
mixed salad leaves
grated carrot
red pepper
tomato
balsamic glaze
hot paprika
extra virgin olive oil
salt and pepper
Method
Thoroughly clean and prepare salad ingredients. Make them look pretty on your plate and flavor with dressing ingredients. Easy peasy.
5-a-day
5 a day is an initiative to move people towards eating a healthy and balanced diet. By including 5 fruit and veggies a day you are ensuring that you are getting a majority of the nutrients you need on a daily basis. It is a very possible target to reach for any age group. 1 portion is equal to the size of your clenched fist.
