GKS-G 2023 (1st Round Embassy Track) - Part 1
Hello world!
So this is my very first post here.
Maybe I'll be talking about my GKS application journey on this blog and share my experiences online with you guys (if you happened to stumble upon my writings or just somehow ended up here on this blog :D)! Let's get the ride together!!
Anyway, I made it to the 1st round selection (and hopefully will do so until the final round - Amiin *praying hard) of the Global Korea Scholarship program for the 2023 intake . Well, so proud of myself for making it so far (patting me on the back XD). You did well myself! :)
The application itself is such a tiring, long process which require time and dedication (money I could say hehe). Currently, I am waiting for the 2nd round result by NIIED (합격 고고) which will be announced on early May (dunno maybe in the first week? last year it was on the 6th!) And while waiting, I think it would be good to record my application journey so far, so here I am writing this! Hope this will helpful too for you guys who are interested in applying GKS in the future!^^
So first thing first, I had to prepare all the documents while working full time that it was quite stressing for me. I only had time after work to write my essays. In addition, as English is not first language in my country, I had to get my documents translated into English first and then going back and forth to get my documents apostilled (as I am not living in the capital city - it took me 2 hours one way). Another thing is about the recommendation letter (this consumed me more time and energy than I thought haha - you guys better prepare it beforehand). I asked my academic advisor to write one (I had prepared my draft before contacting him, which he then asked about it actually). I had to explain to him multiple times to make sure he signs across the backflap of the envelop as well. But when I got the document.. no.. nothing! my professor didn't sign on the backflap :( On top of that, the document was so messed up, it was crumpled here and there (JNE is not professional this time ㅠ). I had to contact my professor again and asked him to send me a new one (with sign on the backflap) and to put some cardboard along with the packet to make sure it arrived safely. In the end I got my letter back (safely), but it took about one week (obviously lol).
After that, I arranged all the documents needed and sent it to the Korean embassy like one weeks before the application closed (still using JNE tho wkwk). The applicants of the embassy track in my country (I'm from Indonesia) was around 699 people and the quota is only 27! YES, you read it right! I had almost like 700 competitors ㅠ but I was indeed so lucky to get selected (Thanks God!).
The Korean embassy in my country chose like 45 candidates in the document screening. They announced the successful candidates list on their website, but they only posted the applicant's given name (last year they published the full name), and there was my first name as well! But, but.. the thing is my name is not unique at all, most of the women in my country are having the same name with me :) and that was not cool all lol. I was afraid if it actually were not me (although I had a feeling that is was me ㅋㅋ) and got more paranoid after asking one of the 2022 successful applicants as he said that last year the embassy mailed the successful candidates first before posting the list on the website. And I didn't receive any mail from the embassy (had been checking every 5 minutes lol, inbox and spam). I couldn't concentrate on my work because of my anxiety (despite that my Korean ehm crush (?) kept telling me that I would make it because I have TOPIK level 6 - but still.. ㅠ). And then the lunch time came and I was about to do my Dhuzr prayer that I got an email from the embassy congratulating me! I was so happy and was about to cry until I finally read on the mail that I had to do the interview the next day (they said it would start from 8 to 11, first come first serve based)! Yep, the next very day! Congrats to me! lol . I felt overwhelmed because I'm new in my company, and I didn't know if one day notice for a leave is acceptable here. So as soon as I finished my prayer, I reached up to the HR representative in my Department and asked her about the matter. She said that it was okay as long as my supervisor okay with it. Fortunately, my supervisor let me to take a leave for the next day (thank you Mr~ - I told him that I had an urgent family matter lol).
With that, I started the interview preparation as soon as I got off from work. I studied my essays (read it again and again), watched videos related and read people's blogs as well (thank you people :)). I also made a list of questions that the interviewers might ask and recorded myself to practice my answers until late (not recommended but I had no choice ㅜ).
Well, this is going to be a loooong story so maybe I will split it into some parts (I know you guys will be bored to read a very long passage coz so do I :D). Will be back for the second part about my interview experience (and hopefully will be consistent with this blog XD)!
Thank you for reading! Have a lovely day! <3
XOXO

Once you have read out a rough draft, your overseas study abroad consultant will let you know where you are lagging behind and what points can be improved for higher chances of success.
Creating job awareness abroad and accommodation assistance: A good study abroad consultant for abroad not only aids you during the pre-completion of the course, but helps you gain access to the best job opportunities aligning with your educational background and pays them a high salary making it easier for them to build a life. Sometimes an overseas consultant also assists the students in searching for suitable and affordable accommodation.
With so many perks of employing a study abroad consultant, hiring one can be of a great benefit for you to have a seamless study abroad experience. As students, when you move to a new country there is so much to learn, as the experience opens many doors of opportunities for you. Having studied abroad you stand a complete chance of settling there along with your family and bringing them along with you later, once you are settled as a permanent resident.

Fulfill Your Dreams: Top 5 Ways Of Financing Your MBA

Is the sole reason you are shying away from applying to that MBA program the fear of paying hefty fees? As per the statistics from the 2022 Financial Times MBA Ranking, it costs up to $189k to study MBA in the top 20 business schools globally. This figure can be overwhelming for a lot of you.
But we understand the value of dreams, and if you are determined and excited enough to pursue your dream MBA course, we have found some ways to finance your MBA program.
There are ample funding possibilities in both conventional and non-conventional ways. Here are some details on the most common ways to finance your MBA studies:
Top 5 Ways Of Financing Your MBA
Scholarships And Grants:
Many business schools like NMIMS Mumbai, IMT Ghaziabad, and IIM offer scholarships and grants to students based on merit or financial need. If you qualify, these can be good ways to finance your MBA, as they do not need to be repaid.
Federal Student Loans:
Another way to finance your MBA is through the federal government. These loans typically have lower interest rates and more flexible repayment options than private loans. They are typically offered through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program and include Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, and Direct PLUS Loans.
Private Student Loans:
You can also borrow money for your MBA through private lenders. But, these loans may have higher interest rates and less flexible repayment options than federal student loans, so it’s extremely important to carefully consider the terms before borrowing. Thus, choose private student loans for financing an MBA if you have exhausted all other options, such as scholarships, grants, and federal student loans.
Employer Assistance:
Some employers offer tuition assistance or reimbursement for employees pursuing an MBA. This can be a way to finance your MBA if you are currently employed, and your employer is willing to support your education. If you are considering employer assistance for your MBA, it’s important to carefully consider the terms and conditions of the program and how it will impact your career plans. You can also speak with a financial aid advisor at the business school you are applying to help you understand the costs and risks associated with this.
Crowdfunding And Networking:
There are many scenarios where students have successfully used crowdfunding platforms to raise money for their MBA. This can be a good way to finance your MBA if you have a large network of friends, family, and contacts willing to support your education. Also, make sure to research and compare platforms to find the one that is the best fit for your needs.
Conclusion
It’s important to carefully consider all of your options and choose the financing method that works best for you. The way to finance your MBA and the potential return on investment will play a critical role in your decision to pursue an MBA, alongside selecting the institution and location. To make the greatest decisions, make sure you carefully weigh all your possibilities.

What success looks like
Tumblr media
In this series, we are looking at each stage of Urban Ventures cradle-to-career pipeline of support.
Tumblr media
STAGES 4-5: High School, College, and Career
Urban Ventures' has an audacious goal: to prepare and send every child in our neighborhood to college or another form of postsecondary education.
Breaking the cycle of poverty requires new opportunity, and nothing provides more new paths forward than education.
Everything we do, and our entire cradle-to-career pipeline, is directed toward supporting the academic success of kids in our neighborhood and helping them continue education after high school.
This goal is implicit in our programs for young children, but it becomes explicit as they become young adults and enter the critical turning point of their academic careers.
In high school, students continue to receive academic support and mentoring. A myriad of programs like our music studio, urban farm, nutrition classes, athletics and wellness activities, and Innovation Center provide opportunities for career exploration. Meanwhile, our College & Career team works to meet with every high school student in an Urban Ventures program to create a postsecondary education plan.
For many, that includes applying for the Act Six scholarship program. Through the tremendous generosity of six partner colleges and universities, Urban Ventures is able to offer 50 full-need, full-tuition scholarships to students based on their leadership character, not just their academic performance.
Tumblr media
Act Six scholars receive continued support through mentoring and leadership training. Many are first-generation college students, and the additional support helps in navigating the new experiences of college life. Scholars in the program have a 91% graduation rate, which is nearly double the rate of their peers.
Urban Ventures also offers many internships, providing a chance for young adults to gain valuable work experience while serving others in the cradle-to-career pipeline. After college, we do our best to connect promising graduates with local businesses or corporate partners who are looking for new talent. And we are truly blessed when they become a permanent part of the Urban Ventures team. Former participants make up 17% of Urban Ventures staff.
Students in our programs have gone on to meaningful careers in business, education, the arts, public service, healthcare, and skilled trades. The joy of seeing college graduates achieve the potential they've exhibited along the way is one of the most rewarding aspects of the cradle-to-career pipeline.
We can't do this without you. Your support is what fuels the cradle-to-career pipeline so we can be there at every stage of life. Your year-end gift to Urban Ventures will help us serve even more families in 2022. Please consider making a gift today.

Masters Preparation For Abroad
Hey ! My name is Shreen Katyan and I am going to pursue my Masters from Boston University FALL 2021 in field of Bioinformatics which is offering me a scholarship too !
Tumblr media
Here I am ,writing my first blog, so very enthusiastic to share my experience of an year long journey of preparing for the Masters and providing insider tips to help people who are passionate to study abroad so they grab the best opportunities.
I know the process is exhaustive but its all worth it when you secure your dream school. So lets get started! Please bear with me since its a long blog but it is gonna give you so much clarity about the process with EXTREME INTRICATE DETAILS.
Tumblr media
In order to pursue your masters in US, please keep in mind it is very expensive and the selection process is tough and competitive but when you succeed you would be exploring hands on  the best connection networks and the latest technologies of the world.
I would suggest you to go for Fall semester since generally when your degree ends there are more chances  for getting a job since all the student career fairs are held in such a timely manner .Also most courses are provided in Fall semesters only. Even internship is more feasible if you go according to this plan. Most students go for fall only.
For example If you need to get an admit for Fall 2022 which means Sept/Oct of 2022, start your preparation in April/May of 2021 itself. I am highlighting the entire timeline process for applying as a FIVE POINTER for your convenience.
JOURNEY-
1.CHOOSING YOU STREAM AND COLLEGE-Make up your mind about which course you want to pursue and from which University .For that simply google and legit through read the different Universities websites, which schools provides which courses and under  which department. You are gonna be amaze how unique integrated courses which are out there available which will ignite you since you need to be very sure about your Masters since its a pretty hard commitment. For example ,I found this Biotechnology Management course of Johns Hopkins University which were taking students from biology field and specializing them in MBA with management jobs in pharma industries (their field only). Shortlist some colleges after seeing what are they prerequisites ,are you liking the college facilites,is there a high chance for you to get an admit etc. CHECK FOR THE DEADLINES OF EACH PROGRAM YOU SELECT TO APPLY FOR AND ADD THEM TO YOUR CALENDER.
2. ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS-Start preparing for GRE exam .Prepare for as much time as you  feel required .Keep giving mocks and check your score so you get an idea what scores lands you in what type of University. For preparing if you have a Magoosh account,Gre official books ,Barron word list and for extra high level practice, try Manhattan lb. .THESE ARE MORE THAN SUFFICIENT FOR A SCORE OF 320 +. Finish the exams off by September for 1st attempt and Mid November for the final attempt so you get results well on time.
3.BUILDING RESUME-Please keep building your resume parallelly with internship, online courses, research articles etc. in THE SUBDISCIPLINE OF THE FIELD IN WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING thus strengthening your application. EVERYTHING MATTERS EVEN YOUR GPA,YOUR EXTRACIRRICULAR AND CO CIRRICULAR ACTIVITES, YOUR 10TH AND 12TH GRADES ,STATEMENT OF PURPOSE(SOPs) ,LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION(LORs) ETC. Seek out to good consultancies for building your SOP,LORS and APPLICATION PROCESS.
4.ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST- TOFEL is majorly accepted by the US universities.Self prepare for TOFEL and GRE. With little practice from YouTube, please work especially on the WRITING SECTION, you can secure a 100+ score which is the basic requirement for A+ GRAD schools. TOFEL you can prepare for a week around and giving it anytime even after applying to college according to your convenience.
5.APPLICATION PROCESS-Check out for the dates when the application submissions start. Early birds have a benedictory status. Note the deadlines for admission .There are gonna be so many pages and questions you might have doubts with, this is the place where your consultant  guides you the most . APPLICATION ENTIRELY DECIDES YOUR GATEWAY INTO THE COLLEGE SO PLEASE BE VERY SINCERE AND THROUGH ABOUT IT.FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASICS IN  THE SELECTION PROCESS OF REALLY COMPETITIVE APPLICATIONS.
Tumblr media
Finally, wait for a couple of months as the offer letters rush in!!!!It is very overwhelming and shortlist the college you want to go taking into consideration factors such as the place, the program enrolled, ranking etc. Alongside start with the Visa application process filling out the DS160, Sevis fee payment etc. Ask your university ,they guide you through the whole process after sending in the offer letter and I -20. Arrange your funds, best way I went about preparing for my visa interview was through telegram group where everybody posts their experiences so that you can get a gist of questions would be asked. Prepare those and IF YOU ARE GETTING A GOOD COLLEGE AND FUNDING IS STRONG VISA WONT BE REJECTED POSITIVELY.
Book you flight well in advance and give enough time to yourself to settle in a new country.YOU DID THIS NOW GO FLY OFF!!!!!!!
I hope this helps :) .Signing off!Feel free to reach out for more queries.

Paying it forward
When our children were very young, I started growing flowers. Elora is in her third year of college, while Jasper just graduated from high school. I have been growing flowers for a long time.
Chris was working as a mechanic down in Seattle when the kids were little, and he commuted to work every day. During the week, he was rarely home and I was alone with my two young children, so I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to be when I grew up.
Tumblr media
During those early years, I experimented with many small business ideas to see what would work, including planting an heirloom cider orchard (I didn't realize it would take at least five years before I could harvest anything).my first viable harvest). I raised more than a hundred chickens in our backyard for a rainbow egg business, but the birds kept escaping from their coop, and I would get angry calls from our neighbors daily.
Even though I tried growing miniature vegetables for local customers, I quickly discovered that it takes a lot of zucchinis to make $5. I tried so many different ideas, but none of them worked.
In the process, I added flowers to my garden and began selling the extra blooms.sta Flowers stirred such deep emotion unlike any other thing I made or grew.pow When I delivered my homegrown blooms, complete strangers would open up and share their most beautiful stories with me. most beautiful stories with me.
Tumblr media
Every recipient could recall a flower memory as if it were yesterday. After I started sharing flowers that I had grown myself, I felt like I had finally found my calling.
As a result, every waking minute was devoted to the garden. I was obsessed with it. However, I knew very little about flower farming.
I spent nearly every evening email conversations with flower growers across the country, and spending my days reading every gardening book my library could order and trying out all the things I had learned in the books.to practice all the things I had read about in my garden.
Tumblr media
During that time, social media wasn't even a thing, and there was very little information available on the topic ormIn addition to Lynn Byczynski's The Flower Farmer, Sarah Raven's The Cutting Garden, and Martha Stewart's Gardening: Month by Month, I just made it up as I went along.st made it up as I went along.
Even though I believe in being self-taught, building a business from scratch with so little to go on and no community was incredibly lonely and challenging for me. Since I was learning everything as I went along, I made so many painful and costly mistakes.
When IIt still amazes me that I didn't give up in those early days. think back to those early days I am still amazed that I didn’t throw in the towel. I failed way more than I succeeded and for the first few years, I really thought about quitting every single day.
Each failure was a sign that I was on the wrong path, and nothing came easy. Whenever I questioned what I was doing and questioned my faith, Chris always said, "The flowers are different.". So I would get back up, dust myself off, and try again.
After struggling my way through the first few years, I managed to grow a small business in our backyard and eventually start making a little profi tittle business in our backyard and eventually start making a small profit. Every penny that I made with my flowers went into paying off a mountain of debt that we incurred some years earlier.
Due to the fact that we were so determined to get out of debt and clean up the mess that we had made, there was never any extra that I could invest in myself.
As I made thousands of mixed bouquets in our garage, I dreamed of the day when I could finally leave the farm and learn from my flower heroes. My heart would ache every time one of them announced an upcoming class or workshop.class or workshop my heart would ache.
Although I was working hard and making good progress on paying down our debt as well as getting better at growing and arranging flowers, I didn't feel like I was getting any closer to realizing the big dreams I had for myself.
Tumblr media
During that time I had started writing articles about my flower growing journey and had the opportunity to interview Ariella Chezar, I started writing articles about my flower growing journey and had the opportunity to interview Ariella Chezar, the godmother of seasonal floral design, and we became penpals.the godmother of seasonal floral design, and we became penpals. She knew how badly I wanted to attend one of her workshops but I couldn’t ever come close to affording it.
I’ll never forget the day that I received her email saying if I could get myself to her next workshop that I could attend for free. Up until that point my flower journey had been so incredibly difficult and nothing came easy. I had gotten so worn down by the grind that I was on the verge of quitting altogether.
So when I got that offer, everything I believed to be true was challenged in the best possible way. At that moment, I decided that if I ever had anything of value to share with someone else who needed a leg up that I would pay it forward as many times as I possibly could.
The workshop was beyond anything I could have possibly imagined and the experience completely altered the course of my life. I came back to the farm after that blissful week in California changed.
Having someone who I admired so deeply believe in me helped me believe in myself. That act of generosity felt like getting permission to finally go after all of the dreams that I had put on hold for so long.
I quickly got to work overhauling my little flower business and from there things really took off. Within a few short years, I had the opportunity to write my first book and eventually welcome more than 500 budding and established growers and designers to learn with us on our tiny 2-acre farm.
Tumblr media
Over the next few years, our small family operation grew and we started a seed company, built an amazing little team, were fortunate enough to find our forever farm, wrote two more books, and transitioned our on-farm workshops online.
I can so easily trace each one of these blessings back to the moment I received that life-changing email. You never know just how much sharing with another person can completely change their life.
I have tried my best to infuse Ariella’s generous legacy into everything we do and our scholarship program is my very favorite way of paying it forward.
Next Tuesday, September 14, we will be opening up applications for our scholarship program. This is our 9th anniversary of both teaching the Floret workshop and offering scholarships.
I am so excited that we will be awarding 12 seats, our most ever. Each recipient will receive full tuition to the 2022 Floret Online Workshop, plus a box of goodies from the farm.
Tumblr media
If you’ve been dreaming of filling your life with more flowers, but the Floret workshop is out of reach, I highly encourage you to take the time and apply for one of our scholarships.

MY DREAMS AND THE WAY TO MAKE IT REAL! "Everyone suffers in their life. There are many sad days. But rather than days, we hope to have better days. That's what makes us live. That's what makes us dream." – Kim Namjoon
Hai! Now, in this occasion, I want you to know more about me, about my dreams too!
From my Johari Window, people say I’m caring, flexibel, sociable, well-rounded person, and always spread positive vibes to others. I say I’m doubtful, clumsy, gloomny, easy to nervous and mood swing. But we say I’m professional, a hygieinic person, sincere, well-organized, and humble.
Now, here we are, my dreams and the way to make it real!
My Road Map
2030: My dreams come true. Menjadi seorang psikolog klinis dan memiliki lembaga/klinik mandiri. Menjadi seorang wanita mandiri dan membagikan keilmuan terkait healthy relationship & sexuality, terutama dalam hal pendidikan seks usia dini.

2022 – The Year of Resilience
I genuinely thought that I am done with 2022 due to the huge heartbreak that I felt.
Since 2019 I never make a goal to start a new year, just continuously reflecting on what I have done and I have achieved.
From December 2021 until May 2022, I was occupied preparing my university and scholarship application to some universities. I got no time for unnecessary things like hanging out with friends, getting along with my co-workers, or even thinking about love.
I knew that 2022 was supposed to teach me about how failure and blessing could co-exist. But in the mid of 2022-in June to be exact, you came into my life. You reoriented the rest of the year making it more colourful and it felt like you painted my whole skies. When I failed, you tried your best to cheer me up. Nothing sexier than effort and knowing that there is someone who wants you so much.
Some people said that stay single until you feel that love is easy, as simple as breathing. Despite the differences among us, I am grateful to have him right now.
So, writing this reflection reminds myself that this year is full of ups and downs, tears and laughs, loneliness, resilience, anxiety, and joy.
First: Failure
Half of my 2022 was full of hustling in preparing for university and scholarship applications. My desire to pursue a high level of education is still the same every year. All I want is to get my master's degree, a new experience to broaden my horizon, and get a better job for a better life. I applied to Oxford, MIT, Freiburg University, 4 universities in Sweden, Hong Kong University, and Sussex University. From all those applications to universities, I got accepted to HKU and Sussex Uni, but not the scholarship.
During preparing these applications, I realised that I am more aware of what I want and what I need. I learned that it’s ok if your dreams change and it’s not the same dream as 5 years ago. I realised that I evolved and my dreams as well. Preparing the applications takes time and requires deep focus. I can say that my half-life in 2022 is juggling with personal statements, reference letters, tons of essays, documents, and not being able to move from my desk (ups! My bad).
When I got an email from ADB-HKU (which was my last hope back then) telling me that I didn’t get the scholarship, I was shocked and all I could do was sit in silence and cried until I slept. But the universe has its own way to remind me about failure. One of the TEDTalk videos I watched before I slept was about how a high-level mindset can help you to achieve your dream. It was such an enlightening talk for me because the talks remind me to keep my head up and not every chapter in life is going to be perfect. So, it’s ok if you fail, you will learn and grow.
Second: Growth
I always believe that rejection means redirection. When I failed, I didn’t tell myself to be strong or “yeah let's do it again”. No. It is not how I treat myself to face failure. I learned that in order to make yourself stronger you have to give room for yourself to be vulnerable. Accept the situation and feel the emotion. So, when I cried, I let myself feel all of the emotions like anger, sadness, confusion, etc.
My failure has taught me that I shouldn’t hold on to something too tightly. It’s like when you hold sand in your hand too tight, it will come out from your fingers and it won’t stay. I also try to believe in what God has prepared for me because God is the best planner and executor. My failure gives me room to grow and evolve. It teaches me that life is about to catch and release.
Third: Joy
The rest of 2022 was an epic journey for me. I never expected could meet someone like you. Well, of course, we met in 2020 but I mean we really ‘meet’ at an unexpected time which…both of us know the story. HEHE. It took almost 3 months for me to really form a feeling for you and during that time you always prove to me your consistency which is ‘sexy’ for me. I have to say that neither of us expected to walk down a road that leads us here. (Read: kamu genit banget dari dulu sampe aku gamau deket tapi sekarang malah seneng kalau spending time sama kamu)
We met at the point where I was done with wanting to be with someone. I was done about meeting and knowing people to start a relationship. Then, there is you. All of the efforts you make, the sweetness, the weirdness, the awkwardness, and the silliness, all of these make me rethink about love. Despite our differences, you treat me well and make me one of your priorities. Even though I hate when you ‘ngomong gak jelas’ but you still steal my heart. Asik :D We went from one art exhibition to another, make a list of ‘Saturdate’ activities, re-watch Harry Potter, went to Ubud and Besakih and almost ‘died’, and many activities.
It’s weird how I started 2022 with hustling, and overthinking and ended with me smiling and laughing almost every day.
Since nothing is permanent in this world, including this state of happiness…so I guess let’s embrace our moments. The only thing we can do is cheerish it while it lasts.

Can I win a scholarship? Yes, I did, and you can, too
There’s something funny about being accepted to university when you come from a single-parent household. It’s exciting. It’s a challenge. Then comes the news about the cost. This is what pushed me to apply for scholarships.
In March 2022, I began looking for scholarships to see if I could win money to help me pay for university. When looking at many scholarships out there and seeing what they were looking for in applicants, I had no faith that I could win a scholarship.
Then I started to think about things a little differently. I decided to look for scholarships with eligibility requirements that matched my student profile closely. It was a simple exercise where I highlighted items that overlapped between the scholarship’s stated requirements and my résumé.
To be honest, I still had little faith that I could win a scholarship, but the process made me feel more confident. I knew this way I at least had a small chance to be the undergraduate student the scholarship committee was looking for.
In May, I opened an email that changed my thoughts about scholarships and grants. It congratulated me on winning a $2,000 prize. Receiving this grant made me truly believe that I could win scholarships and that my process of finding scholarships, applying for them, and interviewing for them works.
Applying for scholarships that you have a high chance of winning is a great way to help you acquire your desired degree without completely breaking the bank. While I once thought that scholarship money was out of reach to me, I now know it’s not. I won money and you can too. Here’s what I learned, which I hope can help you win money for school.
How to Properly Select Scholarships to Apply For
One of the most major breakthroughs I had in winning a scholarship was choosing the right prizes to apply for. Scholarships are very competitive, so when researching scholarships, it is best to find and apply for scholarships that fit your specific profile: race, financial situation, academics, and hobbies. Choosing to apply for scholarships that are looking for recipients that fit my particular profile and background made me believe that I could win a scholarship.
The Logic of College Scholarships: They Make Cents
If you’re working part-time to help pay for university, consider the following logic.
I work at a job that pays me $15 an hour. This year I won a scholarship for $2000. If I were to make that money from working my job, it would take me approximately 134 hours to earn this amount. On average, I work 20 hours per week, so I would have to work for about seven weeks to accumulate two thousand dollars from my part-time job. If done the right way applying to scholarships can allow you to win thousands of dollars in less than twenty hours every time.
This chart shows this logic visually. The hours I invested to win $2000 in scholarship money are in blue, while the hours it would take me to make that by working are in red.
Getting the $2000 from a scholarship is much easier and faster than getting it from a minimum wage job. However, chances are you will not win every scholarship you apply to. So, you have to look for and apply for scholarships efficiently and logically to make the most out of your time.
Let Us Look at How Long it Took Me to Get My Scholarship
The first thing I had to do to get my scholarship was research. I would say this can take between two and five hours, but it took about two hours for me. The next step is applying to the scholarships. Certain scholarships have an application that can be filled out in ten minutes, and others have questionnaires that may require a one-paragraph answer and maybe an essay. I believe this process can take, on average, about 3-5 hours and maybe some complicated essay topics can take about ten hours.
The last step in the scholarship process might be an interview. Some scholarships do not require an interview, but mine did. If your scholarship requires an interview, you must prepare well for it.
How to Prepare for Scholarship Interviews
The first step when preparing for a scholarship interview is reading the website of the prize and understanding exactly what the scholarship committee is looking for in an applicant. Once you have done this, you should highlight the things on your résumé that overlap with your findings. The last step when preparing for a scholarship interview is coming up with some potential questions you believe the interviewer will ask you and curating answers to those questions using examples from your résumé or application. Preparing for a scholarship interview should take no more than two hours; it just requires a bit of thought.
How Long are Scholarship Interviews?
Scholarship interviews are usually short and, most times, will not last longer than 30 minutes. I believe your application tells the interviewer the majority of what they need to know already, and the interview is usually to get to know an applicant better and maybe address any follow-up questions the committee may have. My interview was 15 minutes long.
Tips for Successful Scholarship Interviews:
1) Be Prepared
When you are prepared for your interview, you will be less nervous and have a much easier time answering the interviewer’s questions, which makes you more competitive for the grant or scholarship you are interviewing for.
2) Be Calm
Do not stress and panic over the interview. Nothing good comes from being panicked or scared. It just makes you more likely to mess up during your interview. Messing up during an interview may look like stumbling on your words or having a tough time answering the interviewer’s questions; stay calm and be prepared to avoid these mistakes. Treat it as a friendly conversation and it will flow in a natural way.
Summary: 5 Tips for Applying to Scholarships
1. Mindset
You must have the right mindset to apply for and hopefully win scholarship prizes. The mindset you want to have is one of a winner. If you think like a winner, you will be a winner. You have to think like someone who would win a scholarship prize, which I talked about above. Someone who wins a scholarship is someone who applies to scholarships the right way and believes they can win a scholarship.
2. Only participate in scholarships that require essays if you are interested in the essay topic
If you do this, your essay will have a higher chance of turning out well because you are genuinely interested in the topic. If you win the scholarship, you can put it on your résumé and potentially publish the essay you wrote as a blog post or maybe an article somewhere.
3. Researching properly
A crucial step in applying to scholarships logically is researching the right ones to apply for. When researching scholarships, you should look for scholarships that are looking for someone like you. Most scholarships look for leaders and sometimes have specific kinds of people they want, whether that be race, nationality, economic status, or gender. Applying to scholarships that are looking for a student with your particular profile is a must if you want to increase your chances of winning a grant.
4. Understand what the scholarship committee is looking for and deliver that message in your application/essay
Tip number four is crucial. It is an absolute must to read over your scholarship provider’s website to see what they are looking for and highlight the things on your application that highly resonate with those findings. This is what a scholarship committee will like to see.
5. Prepare well for interviews
In order to receive a scholarship, you must pass the interview stage if the scholarship you applied for requires one. If you want to blow your interviewer away, you should prepare well for your interview. Preparing for your interview is similar to filling out the application for your scholarship; you want to find the characteristics the scholarship committee is looking for in an applicant and write down the points on your résumé that highlight these things so you can focus your specific experience.
Conclusion
University is quite costly. Fortunately, I believe there is a scholarship out there for every hardworking and diligent student who is willing to put in the work to receive some of the many grants out there. If someone like me, who just a few months ago believed he couldn’t win a scholarship, but received a grant of $2000 in May, can win a scholarship award, you can, too.
Author: Caleb K
I am passionate about personal finance, and I want to empower other students with knowledge to help them win scholarship money. Too many students believe they can’t win a scholarship and I want to help change this perception.
My future ambition is to be a financial analyst. When I am not working towards this goal, I am typically working on my tennis serve. I love tennis.

It’s tougher if you didn’t grow up speaking English at home. Foreign students must be very good at English if they want to get along with their peers.
To enter a UK institution without IELTS, you must often achieve certain English language requirements.
In the UK, there are numerous English language competence exams available. But there is also a way to study in the UK in place of these competence tests.
That’s MOI. If you do not have enough ideas about what constitutes a medium of instruction exactly, let’s study it in depth.
Want to know what MOI is?
By “medium of instruction,” we usually mean the language being used for the lessons. However, this does not always mean that the language is the official language of the country or region in question.
For UK schooling, however, you won’t need to take any English proficiency exams like IELTS, Duolingo, PTE, OIETC, TOEFL, internal tests, etc. if your last school was approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
So, if you are not from an English-speaking country but have done schoolwork in English before, you can apply to any of the UK universities that accept the Ministry of Education's (MOI) Clearing House Scheme.
Students from all over the world go there because of the high quality of the education, the professionalism of the faculty, and the availability of PSW.

8 Reasons to do Postgraduate Studies in Canada
Canada is a prime location for postgraduate study with its diverse and stunning landscape and ability to reinvent itself continuously. This goes hand-in-hand with Canada's stability and the security and quality it offers, making it one of the top countries in the world to explore and learn more while earning your degree. Here are the main reasons for studying in Canada:
1. Academic excellence
The high quality of education is one of the most important reasons students study in Canada. A degree from a Canadian university is an indication of academic achievement, as well as a trust that the university will provide quality education. In the QS World University Rankings 2023, 30 Canadian universities are ranked.
2. Ample research opportunities
One of the main reasons why Canadian education is so distinct is its emphasis on research and development. There is no better country for a research scholar than Canada. The Canadian government provides significant funding for research in the fields of medicine, telecommunications, agriculture, environmental science, and technology.
3. Affordable falls in the budget
Compared to universities in the United States and the United Kingdom, tuition in Canada is relatively low. And, in terms of return on investment, it is a viable option for Indian students. You can also apply for various Canadian scholarships to help you save money on your education.
4. Cultural diversity
In Canada, you'll find extremely friendly and welcoming people from various ethnic groups, each with their own culture and way of life. Canada's multicultural environment promotes friendliness and peaceful living like no other country. In fact, many Indians are studying, working, and living here. You can also attend festivals and rituals such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Calgary Stampede, NHL Hockey, and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, among others.
5. Safe and peaceful
Canada has repeatedly been ranked as one of the world's safest countries. The Global Peace Index ranked Canada as the world's 12th most peaceful country in 2022. As an international student, you have the same rights and privileges as any other Canadian student.
6. Earn while you learn
Canada allows all international students to work up to 20 hours per week during their semesters and full-time during their summer and winter breaks. You would not need an additional work permit to work on campus or as an intern in any company because your study permit is sufficient to help you find a part-time job.   International students can work in Canada as long as they have a valid study permit. There are also many jobs for international students at universities and colleges, including teaching and research assistants. There are more job opportunities in the private sector than in the public sector.
7. Vibrant and lively campus life
Canada's universities are a vibrant and lively community where students can develop the skills needed to succeed in today's globalized environment. There are many activities to partake in and meet new people. The students have a lot of fun with the activities such as dance parties, sports games, club meetings, etc. This creates a happy and lively environment for all students, assists you in networking and meeting new people, and keeps homesickness at bay.
8. Immigration opportunities
The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PWPP) in Canada allows students to stay and work in Canada for up to three years after graduation. You can gain international work experience and later apply for permanent residency.   In addition to its renowned reputation and excellent education system, Canada offers a wide range of options for postgraduate studies. Students can choose from various institutions that offer different programs and career tracks. The country has a good infrastructure and is well-connected to other countries through multiple modes of transportation and communication systems.   Ultimately, there are many reasons why students should consider postgraduate studies in Canada. The list above provides a few examples of what to expect and the benefits students can reap from studying here. Canada is a beautiful country to do postgraduate studies and offers incredible opportunities for students from around the world.
