Hey storm so this is a small rant
What's your opinion on queerbating in kpop community.
I've seen many groups doing this. Pure queerbaiting or fanservice as we call it.
They act gay or thinks acting gay with members is funny and entertain fans and involving in skinships just for the sake of it.
They purposefully creates queer themes again just for the aestheic purposes. I dont know if its for attracting queer audiences or for entertaining their young fangirls.
But the way they does is seriously so disrespectful to queer community. Using this idea to entertain fans or as a joke.
This makes us looks like a joke rather than feeling accepted and valid.
I've seen many groups kissing each other, not because they love each other but for some screams from their fans. Super junior is a very obvious example where members themselves has said they are not friends in real-life and they are having a good professional relationship and teamwork. But they kiss each other and engages in all those gay shits on stage. Like what is the point ?. I've seen this among 3rd gen and even 4th gen idols now , being gay to members for entertaining fans.
But I'm thankful that bangtan doesn't do that. Atleast not after the debut years when they were mature knew what they were doing and how it's disrespectful to ' act gay for screams from fans ' every skinship they've shown is from their genuine love for each other. Yes they may some times flirt on stage, but they flirt off stage also lmao. Boys are gone for kim namjoom lol.
The only time I've seen them engaging in this type of not so friendly skinship is between jikook like sucking on ear and giving hickey and lifting bridal style every now and then, shamelessly flirting like there's no tomorrow , which I believes are each other's person from moments I've seen on stage and off stage. Yes they do the gayshit but exclusively with one person who's their significant other.
They together did blackswan mma ( which is an act normaly to be done between a man and a woman ). Again they broke this stereotype and did an amazing performance.
Jk have continously used gender neutral pronouns in songs he personally does, songs he covers, songs he uses in gcf or its straight up ' He or boy ' rather than a female pronoun. Him making their version of savage love In gender neutraly and avoiding the word ' girl ' completely when he kept the curse word as it is should speaks for itself.
This is not the first time he did things like this , his personal works, things he say and said , his not so interest in opposite sex , his special interest in one boy specifically is enough to know about him.
And jimin's, we discussed in earlier post how he literally drew a queer bigender symbol on himself which he said represent HIMSELF. Not much to say.
So saying kookmin is doing a fanservice to keep the fans entertain like other groups do is a sin. They've been open with us within how much they can share and it's our duty as fans to open eyes and see it and support them.
And I hate they are called fanservice because they belong to this ' acting gay for cheers' kinda entertained community. They are screaming loud but is not heard coz anything seriously 'romantic ' between 2 members are immediately seen a fanservice by kpop fans who grew up seeing all those fanservices.
I feel like much is really not required from me during this rant. Lol you basically covered all the bases here anon. I do agree, fanservice just for fanservice sake to get the audience worked up In a tizzy is... odd. The gay fanservice kissing your members stuff is basically solely done for y/n self insert stuff. Where the fans can imagine their bias acting like that with them or kissing them instead of whichever member they are acting with. And that's what it is, it's acting. It's been a part of kpop FOREVER which I think is why people have such a stigma against "shipping." It's part of kpop culture, it's to be expected and it's not supposed to be taken seriously. But shipping for fun has always come across as a little odd and fetishizing to me. These are real people, not dolls or fictional characters to play pretend with. And I'll add that yes, some of the times BTS did do fanservice had me cringing a bit, but even when they did do it, they never took it as far as other groups did, with one exception (Rookie King kiss) and they never did that again. They stayed firmly in doing things with each other that they were comfortable doing, and you can see that by how they act off stage and behind the scenes with each other then too. It was played up sometimes, but the general playful flirting was still there between them too. You covered jikook NOT being fanservice pretty well. I have nothing to add. Lol I'll just include here as well for anyone who newly follows me and hasn't seen them yet, I did a series on BTS and fanservice, which you can read here:
And fanservice on stage asks too:
So for anyone interesting in reading through all that, there you go! Lmao thanks for sharing your thoughts anon. I don't really follow any other groups like I do BTS so it's hard for me to compare, but I agree with the conclusions you drew from your rant here. Thanks again!
